FYI - Your Desire supports 64GB SDXC SD-Cards (FAT32) - Desire General

I've had my Desire for a while now, and since owning it upgraded to a Galaxy S3, however recently I was struck by curiosity whether my 64GB SD-Card that I bought for music on my GS3 will work on my Desire. Why? I have no idea.
So DOES the HTC Desire support 64GB SD-Cards you may ask?
To answer your question - Yes! - and it's completely safe, it doesn't break the SD-Card, as I just saw on my GS3 that it works (hoorah).
However...........
BEFORE YOU START SPENDING £50 ON A NEW SD-CARD
1. I formatted the SD-Card to FAT32 using gparted when I was using it on my GS3. Originally, it comes as exFAT (which I'm pretty sure won't work on the Desire)
1(a). This means that the SD-Card can't take files bigger than about 4GB.
2. I am using the Stock 2.3 software with NO mods (apart from root).
THIS DOES NOT IN ANY WAY BREAK YOUR SD-CARD, AND IT CAN BE REFORMATTED TO exFAT
PROOF:
Here is the SD-Card, mounted._______________________________________________________Here is most of my files (music) on the PowerAmp Music Player

Sooooo..... Anyone lacking space for music, photos, videos etc. and are still stuck with your HTC Desire? Yes - You can buy a 64GB SD-Card, and - Yes - It will work, as long as you format it as FAT32 using gParted (NOTE: You cannot format a 64GB SD-Card to FAT32 under windows!)
Questions?
- It doesn't break the SD-Card.
- You can change the format back to exFAT under windows.
- You should use gParted (or I suppose any other partitioning wizard).
- I don't know how it affects battery life.
- I would rather fight 100 duck sized horses, not 1 horse sized duck.

not 32gb
Thanks! Great to know that 32gb is not the limit.

Yabah dabah doo
Thanks for that great and simple tutorial.

Thanks for the info! Long live le Desire!

You can use the EaseUS Partition Master Free.
It is important that the partition was

- Primary,
- Active.

Those errors are likely caused by a hardware error (bad internal memory chip): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039504
Hey rickyiswhite, I've experienced the same problem with my htc hd2. I am not hundred percent sure how and why this happened, but I managed to get my phone back to life. Here are two methods which I think might help you.
1. You might be missing 'initrid' and 'zImage' files in your sd card. You need these two files to flash new rom from your sd card otherwise the phone cant 'recognize' your sd card. You can find these two files from any rom you have downloaded, just copy and paste them into your sd card's root folder.
2. If this is not the case, I would recommend you to format your sd card (fat 32, i tried once to format my sd card to ntfs, and kind of destroyed it), and clear everything inside your phone using 'task29', which means you will lose everything stored inside your phone and sd card. Then you can uninstall and reinstall the HSPL (this might not be necessary, but I did that, just to make sure everything is cleared). Afterwards you just have to flash the radio and the magldr back. What's left now is to copy your rom into your sd card, remember to copy the 'initrd' and 'zImage' as well, and flash the rom, done!
However, I can't guarantee this would work because you know, different devices, so you have to take your own risk and responsibility to do this. FYI, you can also flash a new rom through computer, using the DFT.exe inside the rom. But currently most of the roms are flashed through magldr or clk, so it would take you some time to find the rom that can be flashed directly via computer.
Anyway, good luck to you, and hope these tips might help

[Q]ROM Manager default location?

Is there a way to get ROM MANGER to default to the Internal "SD" card for backups? It always goes to my external card.
I know I can manually launch clockworkmod and select "internal SD" but I would rather do it from within the O/S so I can name the files.
you can always rename the files however you like with any file editor to rename them
and you can move the zip files around to either Internal SD or External SD
personally i like them on the External SD better to safe space on my Internal SD
I do that but like the convenience of doing it from the O/S. I thought I preferred the external as well until yesterday. The reason I want to do that is because when I tried doing a restore from the external it kept crashing. Seems my 32GIG card is flaky (as these cards can be) and I couldn't restore. I know it's the card because it restored fine from the internal SD. The internal ram, not being a "card" is much more reliable and now I am too skittish to use the external MicroSd for backups.
PM Koush or sent him an email for a feature request on his CWR
to let user pick where the backup are kept
I think I'm missing something!?
It looks like it's included already?

Well I'll be a son of a b .......... I tried MENU everywhere except from the main screen! Dohhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Thanks for making me look foolish, I deserved it! But I don't feel that bad since Allgamer didn't recall either,
not exactly, i was thinking more in the area of Letting you select a Folder you like.
i do know of the internal vs. external option
that's why i said i like it to be on the external by default a few messages above
ideally we should be able to pick a folder to keep all that stuff, i'll like to point it to a folder called "ROMs" for example in the root of /sdcard/
instead of the default
(titanium backup just recently added that feature, well more like they improved it)

Link2SD with [ROM/4.1.2] [Dec 01 2012] CM10 | Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - v2.7

I love link2sd and would like to take it with me after I upgraded my Desire from CM7.2 to a CM10mod.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441
But even after erasing the A2SD Scripts, I get a message telling me ext3 is not orking with this rom, giving Fat32 a try is recommended.

You think it's worth the try to format the 2nd partition in FAT32? Or do you have another clue what could be the matter?
It says that sd-ext2 isn't working, because you probably don't have a second ext partition, and you won't need it.
Try going through settings and stop the app from searching for a second ext partition.
Hey - thx for your reply!
I was running link2SD ith CM7.2 before. So my SD should be still parted into a main partition for all my mess and a 2nd ext3 partition for link2SD to store the apps.
That's why I wonder why link2sd it is not finding it...

So, you have a fat32 main partition with all your stuff, and an ext partition for apps. Link2sd is looking for a second ext partition, as if you had 3 partitions on your sd-card. As yoy don't have a third partition, it gives that error.
Ummm - a second as if there were 3? That's confusing me. Why can't it find the ext as before?
And how could I point it towards that one?
anyone left who'sgot an idea?
Is the ext3 not found?
Is an ext3 not working with this ROM?
thx!
Ext3 work in this rom, in the developer thread an user use it.
First ics based rom i installed give me some trouble due to wrong partition alignment, previous working on gb. Can you check partition in your recovery?

need help about music on sd card

hi guys, with all the problems kitkat is giving to us with the sd-cards, I thought that at least music will be playable through it.
I just put some music on my sd-card, and went for a run, the HTC music app recognized the music but when i pressed play no music came out
I tried music from my internal memory and it worked perfectly...
is this a known thing? can it be fixed? and last question, I did researched about it and could not find anything but I read some articles that suggest that android L will support sd-card, is it true?
BTW, I'm on rooted and S-OFF device using latest ARHD if it matters.
cheers
I have no problem playing musics from external sdcard.
All my music files are on external sdcard (Don't have much anyway)

Why don't you post in that ROM thread, maybe someone has idea why it doesn't work for you.
BTW I'm on a rooted device with stock ROM and external sdcard writeable fixed.

what do you mean by writeable fixed?

Means that the sdcard can be writeable. As you mentioned above, google stop the sdcard write access on KitKat, so you need to fix that on your own.
Anyway, what I know most custom ROM has this fix included in the ROM. So ARHD may have that fix included. So ... it's best to ask in the ROM thread as your problem may not related to sdcard read/write problem.
Must be a Rom issue as I copied over a load of music to my sd card the other day and the stock music player played it no problem. I'm stock unrooted by the way.

LG G3 2/16GB Ram, Internal storage and SDcards(2) before and after factory reset

Ok i think next post might be a bit confusing but i will try to explain the best i can.
So i am a "proud" owner of a LG G3 with 2gb and 16gb of internal storage, running android 6.0 stock V30n, i am using currently a external sd card Samsung Evo 16GB XC1 U1. I was feeling my phone sluggish and downloaded A1 SD Bench.
Which gave me the next results

normal + samsung evo
The internal memory read speed (176,73) seems ok, but the write speed (13.04) awefully bad.
The SD gave the speeds i was expecting (35.32 / 9.41)
------------------------------------------
I took of the samsung sd and replaced with a sandisk extreme pro 64gb V30 XC1 U3
and i had the following results
normal + sandisk pro
Here the IM(internal memory) was worse (78.98) and the write speed even worse (7,70)... and the sd card with awesome values (82.60 / 61.38)
--------------------------------------
So i decided to make a factory reset and retried the same tests (still with the sandisk sd
with the following results
factory reset +sandisk pro
here the sd card behaved brilliantly(83.38 / 59,80) and the internal memroy also had quite of a boost (180.09 / 33.11)
note. ram slowed down almost 700mbps per second(?!)
-----------------------------------------
finally i just made the same tests but again with the samsung sd card
factory reset + samsung evo
ram ok, IM speed as well seems good but around 10% better and SD card also with reasonable values.
--------------------------------------------
my thoughts after this.
1 - should the IM speeds change that much after the normal run but swapping the sd cards? (176,73/13.04 -> 78.98/7.70)
2 - after the factory reset the ram and internal memory speeds were also higher when i had the samsung sd card inserted? why is this?
3 - shouldn't the internal memory be faster than the sd card in any case?
Sorry about the long and confusing post but i would like to be sure if its normal or not so i can send it to RMA.
Cheers!
