JB battery issues? - Sprint LG Optimus G

Is there a thread on JB battery issues? Seem as after I update my LGOG to JB, my battery seen to drain very quickly.
Any guidance to this issue is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

what do you meant by "hard reset" Epic?

I think he means by hard reset that you need to go into recovery and do a complete factory wipe. That would erase everything.
Also, last night I was trying to download something with really bad reception. My battery dropped like 30 percent over an hour period. I was using the screen a fair bit. But, like a lot of phones, the battery life and bad reception are intertwined quite strongly.

Got it, thank you!

Signal levels aside, it takes a couple days before a newly flashed kernel/ROM/Update "settles in". Give it a couple days of normal use and then start looking at your battery life.

Battery life

Not sure what I am doing wrong but my battery life is horrendous. It's not the battery, I have three OEM batteries. Here is a screenshot from this morning:
I'm running Whitehawkx AOKP, build 8-16. Also have bad battery life on FreeGS3 with Trinity kernel. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried that ROM, but using Stock Debloated or CM10 I easily get a full day of use. I listen to music while at work, read on the subway, and make about 2 hours of calls with about 40% left at the end of every day.
I don't think it's the ROM. I've been getting less than average battery life. Flashed a new theme last night and it definitely worsened. Even on FreeGS3 battery life was not up to par.

Jeez that is some really horrible battery life.
What you should do is a factory reset and flash the new wicked v2 rom with trinity kernel 43b. Make sure to wipe cache partition, dalvik and battery stats wipe.
Also after you do that odex your rom.
I am at 59 percent with 3hours of SCREEN ON time. This is with heavy use.

Try to exchange the battery. If you got the phone at a physical store they should just give you a new one.

he already stated that he has THREE OEM BATTERIES.
i too has been having the same issue...even if my screen is on the dimmest setting on my battery stats, its still eating 60% or sometimes even more of my battery. ive tried different stock roms and made sure i factory reset/ wipe cache/battery stats and still no luck. any other suggestions?
battery calibration?
I did that a few flashes ago...maybe I'll try again.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Battery calibration does nothing. Screen will always be the highest consumer of battery unless you don't use the screen and/or you're in an area with ****ty cell service. That's just how it is. The screens are power hungry. It doesn't mean there's a problem with your phone, that's how it is.

Bad Battery?

I've had my E4GT for maybe ten months and my battery is just horrible now. I have tried a variety of different ROMs and I'm currently running goodness and I used to get great battery life out of it (full day with heavy use) and then it just started going bad. Now I have to charge every seven hours or so. And my screen flickers (as if my batterys out of juice) and my phone powers off and when I reboot, it is usually significantly lower in percentage or below 5% and this happens on a variety of ROMs as well but it seems like its gone because I formatted SD (formatted a few hours ago so dont know for sure). I am most likely going to buy a new standard battery but I want to make sure that it's a bad battery. Thanks
If you take the battery out is it swollen? You can spin it pretty good if it is swollen. My battery went bad around ten months, just took it to a Sprint repair store and they gave me a new one.

Actually now that you mention it, it doesn't seem to fit properly into the compartment and it looks like the bottom left side is sticking out more (when you look at it from the side at eye level). Also, when I put the back cover on, it requires more to close and fit properly

I would just go to the Sprint store, your phone is under a year old so it is still covered under the Samsung warrenty.

That's the thing. You shouldn't need to calibrate a lithium ion battery. Complete drains are actually bad for them.

Removing battery stats is not calibrating. To calibrate just charge the phone to full and after a couple cycles it will optimize itself.

Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob

They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.
What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.
Install the easy battery saver app.
I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.
Then u need an old nokia.

T-Mo Note II Battery Life Thread: Post Screenies!

Figured I start a thread specifically for the T-Mobile variant. I will say that I'm pretty pleased with the battery life thus far. I hated having to give up the ease of some functionality just so my Samsung OG Epic 4G could make it through the day. Meaning, turning off bluetooth, live wallpaper, wifi, etc.
I feel like I haven't had to do that even though there is a battery saver mode already. I'm currently sitting at 54% and it's been a day since taking it off the charger.
I currently have all the bells and whistles going. Live wallpaper and facial recognition to unlock. S-Pen detection and the whole 9. Anyhow, just wanted to see what everyone else is getting.
I'd be happy with 6 hours screen on time
i had the galaxy s3 before the note 2 and i have noticed huge battery improvements
I was briefly reading through the manual and saw this:
Do not wait until your battery is completely depleted before
charging your device. Repeating this process of a complete
discharge and recharge can over time reduce the storage
capacity of any battery.
Pg 15
just thought I'd pass it along. I usually run my battery all the way down and let it die before recharging:

Battery Life

I recently bought a GSM galaxy nexus (NTT DoCoMo version) and I use it on T-Mobile's prepaid network. The original battery that it came with was terrible.. Literally only lasted 7 hours regardless of screen on time. So I bought a stock Samsung battery off eBay thinking maybe it was a bad battery. No help whatsoever. I've flashed different ROMs, radios, and different kernels. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? I had a Sprint Galaxy Nexus and I could get up to a day on the battery with 2.5 hours of screen on time so I know the Galaxy Nexus can last a long time. What's the deal?

Could you post some info on battery drain statistics from battery settings tab or preferably gsam monitor over a full drain? I could probably help you out, just need some more info. Also try flashing fancy kernel if you haven't already. This is a newer kernel that gives the best battery life you'll find freshly flashed.
Before discharging toget battery stats I would try charging to 100% and using "battery calibration" by NeMa to clean your phone's batterystats file and then drain to zero with a screen flashlight or running gallery slideshow. This can always be a problem no matter how healthy your battery is.

I have flashed a stock 4.2.2 ROM a week or so ago and I was still having this issue. I bought a new battery too and its still happening. Flashed the fancy kernel today and it seems to be helping a lot actually.

The stock kernel performs way better then what you are experiencing. A custom kernel may help a bit, but it's not magic. I'd recommend using the app BetterBatteryStats in order to find out what's going on.
Do any of you think that me restoring apps would have anything to do with the battery drain? I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary in the GSAM battery stats but the battery drains way too quickly. 10% per hour even when I'm not using it..

Glad to hear that fancy kernel is helping. It's probably the closest thing to magic you'll find. I agree that 1 hour of screen time and under 12 hours is under par, but I was having these same issues 2 months ago and could not believe how crappy battery life was. It really got better though trying a bunch of different radios to find the right ones, using minimal gapps/resource hogging apps as possible, finding the right build.prop tweaks to use, and most helpful flashing some good reliable kernels like fancy and AK/anarkia that have incredibly useful customizations that stock just doesn't have, I.e., contrast and color settings, battery friendly governors and frequency profiles, optimized smart-reflex, and custom regulator voltages for display.
Well, didn't feel like it lasted too long. Fell asleep with my battery at 33%, woke up 3 hours later and it's dead. I'm ready to throw this phone out the window.

I see you got the app. Good. Now a few minutes isn't enough time to gather reliable stats. Review the results after a full drain cycle of the battery. Check partial wakelocks and alarms for suspicious activity.

No need for the snake oil app, as simply unplugging the phone after a full charge wipes battery stats. Wiping battery stats and draining to zero aren't going to have any bearing whatsoever on this issue and would needlessly shorten the battery's serviceable lifespan.

According to these stats, it looks like Google talk and the calendar are my biggest wake locks? I disabled Google talk, turned off location history for Google maps last night, what should I do about the calendar? I feel like my phone is becoming useless because I have disabled so many things.
