Done everything right (rooting/ unlocking phone), i've gotten up to the point of 'unlocking' my phone. but i don't have the use of my volume key because they were accidently damaged in the attempt to fix my phone not bothered to go into it.... but yeah as i've said i don't have the use of my volume keys so when im prompted for the use of these keys to select yes or no for 'unlocking my phone' it already is highlighted on 'NO' so i have no choice but to select that thus unable to unlock my phone..... such as simple defect with a great cause for me to be unable to root my device
Now my question is...
is it possible for some other method instead of using my volume keys to select yes or no in the bootloader menu to unlock my phone?
(at the moment the only key that works is the sleep button on the phone)

Root method: nexus root toolkit v1.6.3

yeah there are two ways
1 First turn off phone, take off back cover, take out battery, see all the little screws? unscrew them and take apart the phone until you reach the volume rockers, see whats wrong. most likely there in wrong shape (should go into it more, if water damage then skip this way)
Idoubt this will work but give it a shot
2 sell your phone buy a new one

Maybe I do not understand really well why you need volume keys for unlocking phone, but you can reboot to recovery via pc, or from Rom, as well as you can unroot phone by using wugs tool for example(no need for hw keys).
You can then try to use twrp recovery as there is no need for hw keys, because twrp fully uses touch screen.
Hope this could help you.

That solves precisely nothing. He needs volume keys to unlock the boot loader.
There seems to be two ways: One is if he's on earlier versions of 4.x.x, root via adb backup restore exploit.
The second is via dd.. BOTH REQUIRE ROOT FIRST. I'd follow the best advice which is to fix those volume buttons or get rid of the phone.

Well, boot loader could be unlocked via PC by using wugs application...no need to even touch the phone.

So you have it already solved Did you use latest wugs app(1.6.3)? I usually flash stock+unroot. Then flash custom recovery, i.e. TWRP and there is no need to use volume keys as far as i remember. Access to recovery could be then possible from wugs by reboot into recovery if needed.

it's work for me
I bought a used Evo on craigslist for a crazy great price. The screen was alleged to not work, but does. There's a pattern lock that the original owner doesn't remember. Any way around this? Other than doing a reset through the bootloader? I was able to get into the bootloader screen, using the volume keys, but they are unresponsive using within the menu. Am I completely out of luck? I would really love any advice you have. Thanks in advance.
We're not going to help you hack into a phone, especially when you only have one post here. If you want to get into the phone, do the right thing and contact the seller and ask what their pattern is.
Sorry. I didn't even think of how my post could be interpreted. I contacted the seller. They suggested trying N and reverse N shapes, to no avail. I wouldn't even be thinking about the pattern, if I could use the boot menu properly. I guess my question is: Is this a hard ware problem stemming from the alleged water damage? If so, why does the volume button work to launch the menu, but not within it?
You won't be able to bypass the pattern lock. You'll have to do what the seller should have and do a full factory reset...
Try the Supersonic 4.67 RUU in .exe form.
On some roms if you input the wrong pattern a certain number of times it will reset the phone and let you in after it has erased all info on the phone, if the volume buttons aren't working in the bootloader(hboot) what are your options in the menu is the first option bootloader or fast boot? If it says bootloader first fast boot maybe enables and selecting bootloader with the power button should activate the remaining options, if you have a power menu mod from lockscreen press and hold power button select reboot and 4 options will appear select recovery and from recovery wipe all/ data factory reset and reboot and you will have a completely stock phone, however with the seller not knowing their own lock pattern I'd say seller=thief and esn=blacklisted which will require a bit of shady tactics to get you activated on any carrier be it sprint boost metropcs etc

I know it's not much in the way of proof, but it's what I have to show I didn't steal the phone.
In any case, I'm being impatient as I'm still waiting for the USB cable I ordered to come in. I'm no stranger to rooting or custom roms. However, is it possible to wipe the phone without being able to use the vol keys to manipulate the hboot menu?
Also, the rom seems to be the stock rom, nothing custom, so the only option I get is to enter the google account credentials. That would be too convenient.
Thanks for addressing my concern that the vol key isn't working.

RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK

I can't do anything from this menu, except pull the battery.

Then put it in disk drive mode.
I can't; it's locked by the pattern lock that the seller doesn't remember. [see above]
Use one of the ruu.zip(pc36img) I think its named likke that from the bootloader ... Make sure the file(pc36img) is on the root of the sdcard and go into bootloader and it will ask you if you want to updTe and follow the instructions

ok i'm in.
For future reference, holding all 3 hardware keys did nothing.
What worked was holding power, then once the Google logo pops up, continue holding power and also hold volume down.
Now to download a rom or system.img....
Edit:
This system.img worked : https://mega.co.nz/#!PBIiEbBJ!bKpdHxegOVlde12nsu_ulEyRq7UsANLLQab1IZjLIGc

If you are not good with timing your button presses, you can just press Power+VolDown the whole time until it goes into the bootloader.

That wasn't working for me, dunno why, the only thing that worked was in post #2, scared the crap out of me lol
Most important thing is that you got it going again!! Just be careful with whatever you flash/modify in the future! If it does mess up in the future, at least now you know what to do. I guess that's the positive way of looking at it, this was just a good (even though scary) learning experience!!

Haha thanks, no idea why I got the 0mb data partition like some of the others who deleted system or used the twrp inbuilt supersu. But now that I'm rooted, its nearly unbrickable now, won't forget this though
Don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere but there might be a way to see if a phone is rooted by just starting it up. I was messing with my phone and I can't boot into recovery now, so I tried the manual way of holding the power and the down volume. Still erroring out so I tried to hold the power button and the up vol button to see what menu was available. Its a firmware update menu and right at the bottom is a code B40 and under that in red is the word "ROOTED". Yes my phone is rooted but I don't know if this is actually reflecting the rooted status or is it something else. I won't know until I get my phone working again without having to do a factory reset.
So if anyone that has a rooted and non-rooted Sprint G2 (might show the same for the other variants), could check their phones, it would be nice to know.
Edited: saw that this was already mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370&highlight=unbrick&page=3

I'm not sure how you rooted your phone, but using IORoot it is VERY evident that this is the case...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
Why is it asking if I want to 'trip rootchecker'?
LG's phones come with some software loaded that detects the presence of root on a phone, and invalidates your warranty.
Rooting the phone, by nature, voids your warranty. You can put your phone in a special mode where ADB shell has root permissions, however your phone is not technically 'rooted' by app standards.

Ah yes, I used IORoot. So that's the trip rootchecker huh? Good to know where it is. If only now we knew how to get access to this "Download Mode" to change or mask the ROOTED status
If you return to stock firmware then it removes the message. Really makes sense to me, if you run the software that comes with the phone then it is supported. If you tweak the phone it is not, either you know how to return to stock or you should not have been messing with it in the first place. If there is a hardware problem the phone is still supported as they can't see the status if the hardware is broken.
Hi guys! I want to send my Nexus 7 (2013) to warranty service because it's bricked and I think the motherboard is destroyed. Will the service understand that the device is unlocked (bootloader) and rooted?
I could be wrong so wait for confirmation from someone else but if it won't even power on I don't think they would know, however if it powers on as far as the white Google logo you can see it is unlocked by the white padlock that is opened at the bottom, or closed lock for locked boot loader.
Sounds like it won't power on though if the main board is dead so I doubt they could know...
If it helps i had an iphone 4 that i jailbroke and it ended up bricked. It wouldnt connect to the computer or anything else. I had the same worry you have and when it was sent off i thought theyd find out. They didnt, and i got a replacement. If it doesnt connect to a computer they just dismantle them for parts. A repair engineer is more expensive to employ than a few idiots with screw drivers.
May be I am wrong about the mainboard. Yeah, I can turn it on, but I can go only to boatloader. It can be connected to computer (only fastboot mode) and there is unlocked padlock.
I guess need to lock the bootloader. But the device does not see any space (free or used) - I was connected it to computer and used a recovery mode with Skipsoft application. May be the memory is dead. It shows that cannot mount any partition. I don't know. Is there any way to lock the bootloader?
I am guessing you used Wug's root toolkit to unlock. I have seen others relock there's when there has been problems similar to yours, maybe check his thread out and ask in there.
Yep, I used his toolkit. But I tried every button in the application but nothing worked. I'll try to search deeper. I'm so afraid because I bought the device 1 month ago.

Yeah I know the feeling
I am always worried about devices failing but after I have had it for about a year I wont be so scared and will take more risks with it usually. Only had mine for around 2 weeks and am also worried it could go off at anytime as mine is unlocked and rooted. Lots of people seem to have had problems with this device, my Xperia S never had problems

It might at least get it locked for you....
Thank you! I will try that as soon as I go home...
This is pretty much what danvee posted but still..
If you can use fastboot that's a good sign. You probably don't even need to send it in. Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469508&highlight=stock
You say something about no space? If the above link doesn't get you running again try this first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380913 Worked for me.
You can just flash twrp with "fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img"(without quotes), wipe, then use the steps in the first link.
If that doesn't work it probably is some kind of hardware problem.
I just locked the bootloader. I used the command fastboot oem lock and there is no padlock now. Also Lock state changed to locked. I think now I can return the tablet in the shop.

heres a funny story but what it resulted in and how i fixed it seem to apply to the problem you have.
i have a cracked screen on my nexus and it was registering a touch at intermittent intervals making the device unusable. i posted in here about the same time you did for help. while i was waiting to see if anyone knew if i could just disconnect the screen and use a bluetooth mouse with a hdmi adapter (slimport not mhl, thanks meekrawb) i connected a usb mouse with an otg cable. the mouse worked but i couldnt see how to turn off touch screen as an imput. as kitkat has been release and i hadnt updated i thought i would give it a try and see if that would reset the screen and stop the touch. It downloaded the update and when it rebooted it opened up a mod recovery screen (i forgot that i had rooted it). it asked me to slide a bar on the bootloader screen to continue. The usb mouse cursor was not present on this screen and the touch screen doesnt work so i couldnt get past it. i turned the device off and on again (what else do you do when your stuck) and it would open the google screen with the unlocked padlock but then just stay on a completely black screen. same as yours. I connected it to the computer and it recognised it. i opened wugfresh's root tool kit (old apple jb's sometimes had recovery abilities built into them so i thought this may aswell) i clicked on flash stock and unroot with the radial button on soft bricked and followed the instructions. now my device is unbricked and even the touch has stopped. Happy days hey. you'll need to unlock your boot loader again but its worth a try before going to the store, you can always lock the bootloader again if it doesnt work.
i know it didnt need all this to say "connect it to the root tool kit and try that" but i thought you would enjoy a laugh
Funny story. But my issue is hardware. The device doesn't show any space in it. No free nor used. I think the memory is dead. Also I relocked the bootloader, but now I cannot unlock it again because there is no space
Now when the tablet is with locked bootloader, it is unrooted, right?
Tommorow I will visit the warranty service and hope they don't understand about rooting and unlocking.
according to an email from "google play support India" , the device will be accepted under warranty as long as it has a stock firmware installed when you send in the device to claim the warranty.
