Hey guys, I think I screwed up here and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem:
Basically, I had a rooted E4G Touch with a custom ROM installed. I went to install ANOTHER custom ROM THROUGH ODIN, as this previous ROM (I believe it was a Calkulin variant) did NOT have CWM recovery. During the ODIN process, something went wrong, and my computer/ODIN...basically, everything froze up while doing the MODEM portion. NOW I can't do anything.
- CWM was able to install on the thing...but it does not recognize my external SD card now. Every time I try to mount it, I get a "Error mounting /emmc".
- I'm still able to get into download mode on the phone, however the phone is not recognized on any computer I've tried. I've attempted multiple computers/USB cords and nothing picks it up.
I'm running out of ideas here. I picked up a USB jig that should be here soon, so I'm going to try that and reset the counter....which leads me to my next question: If I use that, can I take the thing back to Sprint and get a replacement? I have the insurance plan and everything, so if they won't take it back because of the custom software I guess I could always smash it or something...
Any help would be appreciated!

The ROM you flashed through ODIN was for this phone, right?
What custom ROM are you referring to that was available through ODIN?
assuming you flashed the right ROM, start with the basics..if you can get into download mode then try a simple reboot of your computer. Sometimes Odin won't recognize after it has been run

It was the CyanogenMod 9 rom that is out there right now. IN the post (I'm having trouble finding it as I'm not at that computer right now) they had an ODIN variation for people such as myself, where you were to flash that and then go back through to update it to the latest version.

I attempted this as well Went through and rebooted the computer with the phone plugged in. Rebooted with it not plugged in. Plugged the phone in with ODIN on the screen and started it up. Started it up unplugged, went into download mode on the phone, and then plugged it in. Still nothing.
And I just realized I posted this in General and not Q&A...and chance I could get this moved since I am clearly out of my mind right now?

The only odin component involved with flashing CM9 is flashing a gb kernel with a CWM recovery. I haven't seen a cm9 tar, this is why I'm confused. Finding out exactly what you flashed will help in understanding what the problem is.
To flash cm9 you need to odin a gb cwm kernel and then boot to recovery and install cm9. However, that's not a tar, its an update.zip.

Yeah it was definitely a tar.md5 file, which leads me to believe I was incredibly dumb and possibly flashed a ROM for a different model phone. I'm having difficulty finding the post now which is very strange. This could be one of those moments where I take a good hard look in the mirror and figure out just what the heck I was thinking.
I'll keep looking for what exactly I did wrong, but in the mean time is there anything else I could attempt or look for short of attempting that USB jig and making a trip to Sprint? I'm feeling like a huge idiot right now. I've done this how many times now and when I finally make a mistake, it turns out to be huge.

Well ultimately you can try uninstalling / reinstalling drivers. But you say this issue exists across multiple pcs so that likely isn't it.
You can try another cable and see if you have any success with that.
Other then that, it kinda really depends what is in that tar you flashed. Once you find it, post the link, and that will help troubleshoot your issue.

Did you flash the bootloader from that device? ie did your steps include this? \/
Make sure you're running ICS bootloaders lower than LPH: Download (flash as PDA with odin or extract and $ sudo heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin)

Negative, I started right at the "Using the noob-proof ODIN method:". It said noob-proof and I decided that would be the easiest. It turns out it is very easy...if you're flashing to the correct phone Plus, I'd used ODIN before and felt comfortable with it.
Ha ha that's the first one for this method......look up jtag they may fix it for u if u don't have USB .... About 60 with shipping

I just downloaded the tar to have a look at whats included.
After flashing this you'll have a bootloader for the intl. sgs2. This is a problem many ran into when original SGS2 leaked tars started surfacing as well.
JTAG might be able to fix it, I'm not sure whether people with this issue were successful or not with JTAG repair as the intl gs2 flashing boat seems to have sailed now. However, a jig will likely do nothing, unfortunately.

Ok thank you for your help on this. You don't think a jig will reset the counter or anything so that I can take it back to Sprint? If not, I'm not above "dropping" it on the ground and using the insurance I have on it for a replacement.

I don't foresee it working only because your phone isn't recognized by your pc and the problem doesnt lie on the pc side.
The problem is instead with the port on the phone which leads me to believe it won't recognize a jig either.
A jtag if successful will leave you with more money in your pocket and a non-returb. Something to consider if you've got a backup phone you can use for a few days.

I don't see sprint replacing it with cm9 On it .... And u will need mobile Odin to get back to stock but with it not mounting the Emmc probably can't do that .... That is your hope to get back to stock using mobile Odin someway .... Triangle away app will reset Odin count but with no radio you need to get apps to do it and no sd from what u said ...maybe tell insurance u lost it and get it replaced
Jtag should work also since there is no emmc failure like the blue light of death bricks ...

I have a Galaxy Note 2 on the sprint network. Yesterday someone sent me a text and i tried to sent them a text back but my phone didn't have a signal. It reset itself a bunch of times. It stopped resetting and now there is no signal to the tower. I looked on my phone and Baseband version, network, mobile network type say unknown. service state is out of service, username is unavailable. mobile network state is disconnected, my phone number is unknown, min unknown, prl version unknown, meid unknown, imei unknown, iccid unknown. device status modified.
I rooted my phone when i first got it with the method that doesn't make your flash counter go up. I had super user installed and had the OTA survival mode checked and did the OTA update for multiwindow and then lost root. This wasn't a big deal to me so I just left it alone, everything worked. Its been a couple of months and then this happened. I reflashed a stock rom on the phone and that didn't fix anything. I rooted it with the Samsung Note 2 toolkit and that went well. But it somehow got stuck on the boot screen again after a while so i just reflashed to stock.
I downloaded QPST and entered my IMEI into the nv line 550 and clicked the write NV block and returned an error. Im stuck. I have insurance and I've only had the phone a couple of months. What the heck happened? Was it somekind of wipe? I have been working on this all day and I'm going to bed now, but can someone help me out?
I would not have been so quick to start messing with qpst.In most cases where ive seen this the imei and related numbers were fine and it was a system screw up. That said,This happened to me recently and even odin wouldnt fix it. I ran THIS and it brought me back so I would try that first.

thanks. I am downloading that now and will try it and let you know. I didn't want to start messing with qpst but i saw a tutorial that you can enter your imei back into your phone with it. i got my numbers off the box and went to work. but qpst would not write the values into my phone.
when i plug the usb into the phone a flag pops up in windows and says hardware id is missing as well.

i went to the link. i downloaded the file. it was a zip file so i put it on an sdcard and slapped it in my phone. i used the vol up, home key, and pwr key and then i used the update from zip file on external storage. it did some stuff and rebooted. i checked my flash counter and it went up and said i was running custom, custom.
i didn't see any instructions with your post that you linked and I probably didn't use that file the way it was supposed to be used. how exactly do you use it? and when i turned my phone on it still said baseband unknown.
thanks again for helping me with this.

Do you have Root Explorer? If baseband is showing unknown makes me wonder if build.prop is there and complete...?
It needed flashed in a custom recovery. Did u use twrp or cwm to flash it? If so, you did it right. Is it only the baseband thats unknown or everything still? Did you try a ##72786# dialer code reset?

everything is still unknown.
when i dial ##72786# it goes to a meny labeled SCRTN but is blank with no options.
at this point I used triangle away and flashed the stock rom on my phone, it keeps randomly resetting. in the setttings it still has baseband unknown. i did the ota update and the build number is JROO3C.L900VPALJC
under status, everything is unknown and at the botton it says device modified.
when i put it into download mode right now it says custum binary: no ; current binary: samsung official; system status: custom
this started when the phone just started resetting a bunch after my buddy texted me and then it didn't have service and all the values were wiped, i just want to take it back to sprint because ive only had it for a couple of months. will the above values be ok for a trip to the sprint store?

I had this happen to me when I first got the phone and rooted. Scariest first day of ownership thought I was going to have to go in to sprint. Thankfully I flashed the full stock tar and my phone came back to life. Maybe you should try flashing it and see how it turns out for you.

I went back to full stock with :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769
i also went baclk to full stock using the samsung note 2 toolkit and triangle away.
both methods left me with custom binary as no and current binary as samsung offical, but system status says custom.
both ways.
and the screenshots that i posted earlier are the same.
i found this thread:

and i think i have a corrupt EFS.
as it is, does the spring store take your phone back if system status is custom and device says modified?
b.) if i can fix it, it would be better than taking it back. everything on the phone still works, but it obviously cant see a cell phone tower or make calls. data on wifi only type deal.
thanks for any help...

I'm not familiar with that EFS issue since I've never read about it. However I would try that tar I posted as a last resort since the stock zip didn't do anything for you. The issue you're describing is the exact same thing that happened to me and that tar brought me back. And about being custom/modified it all depends on the Sprint Rep you get. Some are cool about it some are not.

my phone is screwed. i got the MSL and put it in my phone and nothing happens. i have to take it back and get a new one.even though all the hardware works, just cant program the info back in the phone for meid, baseband, username, icc id, etc. etc. so no voice calls.
the bummer is that this all happened randomly. i wasn't messing with my phone at all and it was running great then it reset a bunch of times and then wiped everything. i don't know if it would have helped, but i highly reccomend everyone backing up their EFS. because you never know when this will happen to you.
take care, thanks for the help everyone.
PLEASE HELPME THIS IS MY CASE: i tryied to root my sprint 4g epic GS2 , i did it throught ODIN i attached the PDA file my KERNEL is FL24 and when i finished the process throught ODIN The phone reebot with a yellow triangle an it can not access to the operation system , I just can open de downloading mode and the recovery mode
iim not even know if the rooted was succesful completed , so i need som help if there is any file that u can put in the memory and try to install throught the recover mode cuz i downloaded the original firmware and ODIN doesnt recognize my phone now really scare about this phone its not even my phone is a friend's phone :crying:
What file did you flash?
Ok, calm down. If you can boot into recovery you are ok. Here's what you do. Download chris41g's el26 stock cwm(tar). Google it. Boot into download mode. Flash the kernel through Odin. When it says pass and reboots, pull the battery. Reinsert and boot into recovery. You will be in cwm now. Do the cache, dalvik wipe, then flash the ROM(E4GT only, since in assuming that's the phone you have) you have saved in your phone's ext or internal drive, and when it's done, reboot, and you should be good. If you didn't save the rom, you'll have to mount the usb storage and load it through cwm. Search the threads for that too. Good luck

I would have just suggested to flash a one click restore to get the phone back into an operational state. Minimal steps since the op seems to be in panic mode.
Hard to tell what's happened in the few hours since the original post.. would be interested in what transpired from the "oh ****, I screwed up" moment..

How about calming down. Not shouting and tell us exactly what Odin file you say you flashed and how. Sounds like you tried to flash just a kernel -FL24 via PC odin. Yes you'll get that yellow triangle.
Also sounds like you flashed a kenel that was not compatible with the Android version you were on (you ROM version) hence the not booting to ROM
Simple fix.
Download a Full Restore Odin One-click ROM. They can be found in RWilco's repository http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252
Read carefully how to use it to flash the entire ROM. It's dead simple.
Then go back and do a whole LOT of reading about how to update and modify this phone or you're going to paperweight a device! Your posts sounds like someone who saw an operation on a tv show once then tried to do an appendectomy on someone and freaked out that it didn't work how you thought it would.
Patience, read, learn. Search read some more and patience will get you far.

Ha, I already tried to calm him/her down, lol. The op was hours ago, so they either calmed down and actually read what we wrote or some of the INCREDIBLY simple threads the guys here at XDA put together, or they have a nice expensive paperweight. Appendectomy comment was classic though. for that one. Maybe they stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.hmmmm

Lol the appendectomy comment reminded me of a friend of mine who had a kidney stolen while he was in Mexico and when he got to the hospital they got him stable but he was in icu for about a month. Well he found out the scalpel hadn't been sterilized and he ended up with tetanus, hep c, and some other weird disease.

thank you for ur help but there is a problem odin doesn't recognize my phone , and i tryied with othe phone (skyrocket sgs2 ) and it does recognize that , that why i cant flash it with odin, or if may i do it throught recovery mode ?

Do you get any response from a pc when you plug it in? The only options I see is MAYBE trying abd but it seems like you're in need of a jtag service by mobiletech or someone like that.
HI
jdsingle76 said:
Good luck

There is really nothing I can suggest at this point other than you need to look up mobiletech jtag service if you're willing to invest in fixing the phone. Even then it's not a guaranteed fix.

A quick search would of brought you to the FAQ which has a link to qbkings how to video with links to everything you need.
Factory reset doesn't replace your rom or firmware. All it does is delete user data, it doesn't remove root or touch the /system partition. You need to Odin a stock unrooted firmware/rom combo. The best way would be with a one-click package or billard412's all-in-one back to stock with flash counter reset. You'll need to do some searching.

According to the comments, this seems to brick a lot of phones.
Is it necessary to do the flash count reset, and does it matter that I have Clockword mod?

If your NOT taking your phone to sprint for service...there is no point in doing a counter reset. Its playing with fire and should be done only when absolutely necessary....like if you have a hardware failure. You dont need clockworkmod unless you plan on re-rooting your device or installing a custom ROM in the future. What you will need is ODIN, and the Combination_LJ7.Tar (Will bring your phone back to 100% stock jellybean) and thats it. There are countless videos on youtube with specific step by step instructions on how to do this. My advice would be to learn everything you need to know before rooting next time.
It appears the LJ7 tar is hard to come by these days...so its fine if you use the bare bone stock L710 tar. This will bring your phone back to the original firmware release (the original condition it was shipped in when it first came out).
Download that file here -----> http://stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS3/SPH-L710/StockROMs.net-SPH-L710_SPR_1_20120524110114.zip
Open up Odin, in the PDA slot select the file you just downloaded above. Make sure the auto-reset box is checked, and re-partition is unchecked. It should be ready to go on boot, but just verify. Wait for ODIN to finish and your done.

With the L710 tar...i DONT believe you will lose your apps/data, however, dont quote me on that. Make sure you always sync your contacts with your google account so you dont have to worry about that kind of stuff. And yes, you will be completely unrooted. Your phone will be just like it was when it came out of the box.

Qb's thread is outdated that will take the phone all the way back to LEN. and the lj7 tar probably isnt the best as its not up to date either. My file linked 2 posts above is the best way as its fully up to date and takes care of the count too. Especially if u have cwm as ur already set up to use it

So how long should the boot process take?
Ten minutes?
Twenty minutes?
I'd say 5 average. No more than 10. And that's pushin it. What method did u use? If you used the Odin tar from stockroms.com then it's not going to boot until u factory reset. Sounds like u downgraded which Is why I recommended restoring my mb1 system rather than Odining lj7

I bet it doesn't boot. If the op was on ma6 or mb1 then I guarantee it doesn't boot without a factory reset
Post number 3 and 4 of this thread backs that. Those people in the comments weren't bricked. They downgraded like u and didn't wipe. Evil-koncepts had it right.

It will do vol-up home and power. Ir's going to wipe your internal SD too just as a heads up

So I wipe, and then what?
Re-odin the bare bone stock that RealTic posted or....?
Reboot. Phone will be up in abt 5 mins. As a tip for the future. When you see your back and menu keys light up that's the sign that your about to boot up and all is well. your datas the issue do no need to re Odin.
When your need to return to stock always look for the system you are currently on. Downgrading will always require a data wipe. If you flash the same system your already on a wipe won't be needed
So, this is a long process I've been through-- First thanks so much for just taking the time to read this and any input would be awesome
I tried to flash a new slimkat 4.4.2 rom today and it flashed fine came up had service all was well except I think i did it as a "dirty" flash. I don't want to think any errors possible would be from that so i immediately did a "clean" flash and wiped everything except external sd-card in TWRP
Rebooted and noticed i didn't have any signal or data. First thought was modem so I started flashing MJ4 and reboot, nothing, so I flashed MK6 and reboot, nothing, so i changed to CWM recovery and flashed them, nothing, then at this point i just want a phone back doesn't even matter so i always seem to have several ROMS on my phone so i flashed another Sky Note 4.3 and reloaded nothing... So i started really wondering now and looking at my baseband to see what it said and noticed "Unkown Baseband" and Imei "unkown" (All while at work) So I came home did a little research while trying various other roms and none worked. So I read one way is to use Kies and do a "firmware upgrade initialisation"
Now it rebooting and completed going back to 4.1.2 CAMA4 and i still have nothing.. So I flashed UCALJ modem (Which should work as well) and I still have no data or signal because of unknown IMEI and Baseband. I don't really care about using triangle away or not, but i can get around and flash roms and everything thats what I don't understand.
Oh I did use CF-autoroot to install TWRP to install the modem as a .zip
Any ideas I would love you forever!!!

Only thing that got me back was a restore of an old backup, as a wild ass last resort.... Lost my mind when it worked
This problem is not weird, unfortunately it's common.

Only thing that gets it back is restoring a backup rom that had an efs backup in it.

Sadly no...
It is both illegal...and unethical for someone to give you a copy of an EFS folder...
It contains the user data and carrier information for the device...making the folder private...and unique to it's owner ....g

Any idea's for programs that will scan for deleted folders? or other ways to re-build EFS or .nvdata?

So I tried from my wifes sim today with no avail. Still don't have my phone and wondering if there is any way to recover it? Do i try to set it back to stock everything fix the flash counter then call samsung? I don't think its under warranty anymore since i've had it for almost 2 years. I know its a long shot but I wonder if taking it to one of those "cell phone repair" places would be any help? I'm out of options and actually had to drop back to my old HTC Inspire

Yea, the sim deal was to simple to work...
So never heard I don't think. What were you on before you flashed slimkat? Did you do the 4.3 OTA update?
Have you tried flashing an original rom with the Pit file? That's your last resort, EFS is unique to each phone by using someone's else's this is illegal as your modifying the IMEI. I've had efs issues in the past but always had a backup to hand. Try flashing everything with a pit file if that doesn't work then you will have to take it in for repair, Samsung official could do it but don't know what they will charge as it's out of warranty or maybe a local phone repair shop could do it or someone with jtag services can do it perhaps too.

A couple of other people are having worse problems like not being able to flash a recovery in ODIN or a ROM saying it can't read partitions. That's a good choice for a PIT flash.
But I'm reading and reading and everything is saying, yep that will work.... IF you then have the efs backup to restore

Thanks so much for the help!! I'm just worried that its not going to fix it and only make it worse possibly. I can't find how to pull my PIT file to analyze it so my next option is... Call a professional tomorrow... I'm going to call because apparently a "Z3X box" will fix my phone in like 3 minutes. I will post back though letting people know in the future whether they can or not. Because of legal reasons I don't know if they can even write my own IMEI back to the device. Will post back though regardless after tomorrow when I call them.
This happened to me a while back and I just flashed back to stock using Odin and all was fine

GREAT NEWS!
So I got desperate and realized this was going to take a professional. I called around to my local "cell phone repair" shops that really only know how to change the screen and asked about recovering the EFS file. It started out: "Hi can I talk with someone knowledgeable about the Android file system?" and every time the person said they were an "expert" So I said "I deleted or corrupted my EFS file and I need a repair for it" and EVERY time they told me they had no clue what I was talking about. I read and read everything I could find on the internet and most pointed me to some international "send you phone here" and of course I'm very skeptical of shipping my phone just about anywhere. So I found a person in the US at mobiletechvideos.com and looked him up with the BBB and found reviews from multiple sources.
I can say mobiletechvideos.com is legit and awesome! Josh fixed my phone and repaired the IMEI in less the 10 minutes remotely. I have my note 2 back! Please do not hesitate to give this guy a try he is legit and really down to earth guy. This thread can end here because whatever he did I have no clue but it worked!
Also a lot cheaper then I though it was going to be
