I've tried on 4, yes 4 different sprint galaxy s3's model sph-L710. I started with liquid smooth rc7, rc9 now liquidsmooth 4.2.2 and also carbonrom 1.4 and 1.5 and have tried every version on each of my 4 phones. I get the exact or very similar issues on every variant. The issue is the camera crashes, simply reboots the phone or I get an error message stating cannot connect to camera. I've tried different gapps, flashing and reflashing, camera and gallery apks from other model phones, installing the apks all different ways. I'm at my wits end and would sooo love to use either liquid smooth or carbon ROM as my primary phone, but no camera = useless ROM. Please provide any suggestions as I've got so many hours lost sleep and am now ready to either rip my hair out or throw in the towel on these ROMS, but I so don't want to do either.
I don't know if this is allowed but I'm willing to pay anyone who can fix my issue and have my camera run solidly on either liquid smooth or carbon ROM For 30 days. At whick point i will paypal or send a check for $100 to the individual who fixs the issue.

Well, if you're having issues, something you're doing is causing it to crash; when you install do you do it from a clean install?
If you want to use carbon / liquid smooth, I'd recommend flashing the rom with a full wipe, everything except in/external sd card, flashing a kernel if you choose; personally recommend kt747 kernel. If you need moar help, just pm me.
yes did ckean install same kernel
Yes, it was a clean wipe and install, and yes I use the k747 kernel. Like I said I've flashed dozens of ROMs on dozens of phones (for friends and family) and I'm an IT integrator by trade so I'm quite savvy.
Notable info:
If I wipe everything including delvik and flash new liquid smooth or carbon, and do NOT install any gapps the camera works perfectly every time... As soon as I flash the gapps the issue begins. Soooo Weird.

well removing the camera/gallery from the gapps.zip file is proving more difficult that initially thought. I've extracted the file, searched for the following (gallery, gallery2, camera, camera2) and found only 3 gallery2.apk's files of which i deleted and re-compressed the file. installed and the camera remains, with no luck on resolving the issue. Curses! Curses!!
Any other suggestions... anyone... anyone...
also does anyone have any further details on how to remove any traces of camera/gallery from the gapps.zip file. I have done the above stated procedure but the camera remains. Note: there is no gallery or camera apk of any sort in the system/app file of the extracted gapps.
Don't extract the gapps, open them as an archive in 7zip then right click the app and delete then flash the gapps. Extraction can break the sig on the zip. There should only be 1 file named gallery.apk or gallery2.apk as the new aosp camera is integrated into the gallery apk
I like to break stuff!

OK so when I flashed the Team Vicious Sense Rom, I had SD reading issue. So great...
So then I realized, I can save everything. All I gotta do is upload my backup to dropdbox and my other important root files(S Voice, HD Stock boot, Sense theme).
So then I unrooted to did the problem. Redownloaded my backup and restored it. And excellent. Saved and running.
Then I got all my root files back and I realized something.
I didn't save my GAPPS. This wasn't just any gapp. This gapp actually allowed me to prevent wiping my data for for the Google services to work. And it was the only one I found that did this.
So ever since then I've been shreading the internet for gapps just like this.
Can someone PLEASE send me a link that has a gapp file that does this. I don't like wiping for a Rom.
What's the problem with using the normal GAPPS? Its not that big of a deal to wipe, as it can save headaches and problems later on
Btw, if all you needed was the gapps file, you didn't have to tell such a long story. Could've just explained what you needed.

Just wanted to explain what happened. =p
I did however find a way to make all gapps work the same way. Kinda
What I did was save all the files that seems like a Google thing on rom toolbox.
But I don't really trust it and don't think it works well. I've done it on Paranoid Android and it was a success. But I was only able to get 100 apps that "worked" and the other many thousands that does work were seen as "incompatible".
Also Google partner setup would crash constantly. What is this set up anyways???
But I want a GAPP that works like this. I thought it was a normal GAPP. But it's different and allows me to flash what ever the hell without consequences as long as it was made for the toro nexus.
I've been looking for a few hours for an answer to this question, and I can't seem to figure it out. Sorry if it's already been answered and I just overlooked it.
I have flashed 3-4 different ICS/JB ROMs, and each time I flash the associated gapps, those apps simply do not appear when I boot up. Each time I flashed, I wiped 3 times, and the last time, I wiped everything but system, cleared the SD card, repartitioned it to ext4 - still nothing.
Anybody else had this problem? Any ideas on what I can do to fix it?
What Gapps are you using presently?
I'm running swiperrat's Baked Black Bean 2, and I used the gapps linked off that thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836790). Right now, I'm using the inverted gapps 20121016 off of the Baked site. But, I have had the same problem with Mazwoz Evo 4.1.2 and TroNit's Provision port when I use the gapps recommended on those threads too.
Still haven't resolved this issue, but I did go to the market and d/l the usual google apps.

Btw, I'm having the same issue in an entirely different platform and scenario: I have a OG DROID with Kfazz's ICS build based on CM9.
Naturally, I need a minimal build of Gapps for ICS because my RAM is only 256MB. Anyways, I've tried many different Gapps flashes. Always, the same deal...
The apps don't show up at all when I boot up, not even PlayStore
if you are using just a gapps flashable zip, try one of the aroma installers and select which parts of gapps you want to use and leave out the rest. hopefully that would do it, otherwise maybe a different recovery program.

I tried to post this on cyanogen mods website but I was not allowed to post
I bought a AT&T Galaxy S III for my wife this weekend and ran into several problems installing cyanogenmod 10 on it.
Installing:
First the Heimdall program failed to "initialize interface" and no matter what I tried it failed to connect.
I managed to get it installed by using the ODIN to flash different clockwork mod (but that errored out on the when I went to flash cyanogenmod 10 )
So I used that to root it then installed cyanogenmod via rom manager by having that install the right clockwork mod then cyanogen 10.
It would be nice if they provided a ODIN Image for cyanogenmod
VoiceMail:
voicemail was missing its number after I installed cyanogen mod.
It took me forever to get this correct. Found out that you just forward to your mobile number. In the phone settings. or dial **004*PhoneNumber#
Also Google voice failed to setup correctly as well and had to use the **004 path.
Skype:
downloading via google play kept returning "package file invalid" (I cleared /cache and dalvik cache still failed) I ended up downloading it via the androiddrawer website and it installed (sideload?).
The problem with this is when using the voice or video chat the other side just hears very load static. Found someone claiming these problems came from cyanogenmod 10 not using the correct mics all the time. This is still an issue.
My questions are these issues fixed in the most recent version of Cyanogen the M releases? And if not are they known and someone working on them?
And does anyone have a fix for the static issue in skype?

Unless your wife can troubleshoot issues why install a custom ROM on her phone. My wife would kill me since she has no clue but I digress.
Why not flash 10.1 on the phone and download the gapps from the goo.im site and see if hat helps your issues. Maybe you got a bad flash and/or download. For the short amount of time I tried it I didn't have any of these issues you do. Those don't seem to be any bugs in the known bugs beyond maybe the static. Task's AOKP is another one to try if you want a custom stable rom.
Try another ROM or maybe a fairly stock rooted rom and see if that clears up any issues.
Are you using a Mac or a PC ? You mentioned Odin (for windows PC's) and heimdall (for all others). Honestly the best way is to flash a stock rooted ROM from the no tripping flash counter Rooting thread in Development and then flashing CWM in rom manager. Limiting having to flash in odin is the far better option. I've never ha d a bad flash in a custom recovery but everytime I have to use Odin I get extremely nervous.
Read Beerdroid's guide and you can't go wrong

agreed.
there are a couple good and stable stock/touchwiz custom roms as well as AOSP-based roms on this forum. i would steer clear of nightlies and super-custom roms that are always posting new updates. these are less stable imo.
put something on her phone thats solid and be sure to use the proper wiping and flashing procedures when you do so. wiping/flashing correctly makes ALL the difference on the software's performance while it's running on a device

Well I went with Cyanogen because I used it on my old droid incredible and its was great. I also want a stock like rom because I personally use a stock Nexus 4 and want my wifes phone to be similar and wanted to remove all the retarded extra apps atnt and samsung threw on.
So no idea if the 10.1 would fix the static issue then?

I can't say for sure but download and see if it works out of you. Thing with bugs is that they aren't always reproducible. I don;t see your issue as a known bug on 4.2.2. There are a few other ROM like super nexus in the dev section that are a practically stock nexus feel. Why not give that one a try ? Give AOKP a try as well.
Here's super nexus:

i'm an advocate of AOKP, but thats just my 2 cents. there is a very solid 4.1.2 milestone out and their 4.2.2 milestone will be released very soon.
although faryaab is a great kid and puts some good stuff together, remember that supernexus is a port and you could experience bugs (as i did). again, just my opinion

Also, how to use ART
MikeEx Posted (Couldn't quote or it wouldn't show red on XDA app):
Remove your phone from any case and place in front of a fan where the top front and back receive air flow.
The phone will get extremely hot (80*C+) if left uncooled while ART compiles everything. This could be a total brick hazard.
Having around 200 apps could take well over 10 minutes.
ART will recompile every time you flash a new nightly.

Use CWM, I believe there's an updated version that someone built (it's in the cwm recovery thread towards the last couple pages). Flashify works on LGOG as that's what I used to flash the cwm touch img file. Wifi works on my end. I flashed the 11/30 build and then dirty flashed 12/03 build.
I realize this is probably buggy but is it worth the switch from 10.2 to use as a dd? What if I want to go back? All my backups are TWRP
Use online nandroid backup to make a CWM backup without CWM

Basically everything worked for me except video recording and playback. Try recording a video in snapchat and see what happens.
That said, the camera works better than on the other 4.4 ROMs. No autofocus issues and no weird coloration issues, no capture rate issues either.

Ran the 12/3 build all night last night - dirty flashed up from the latest 10.2 build just for kicks.
Initial boot the OS was just crawling (likely dirty flash issue) - 2nd boot brought everything back to life and been fine since.
Not running ART just yet - need to verify and trim down my 200 app list lol (plus I don't want to lose Xposed just yet)
3G/4G both work great
Wifi worked fine at 3 different locations
GPS worked great
Auto Focus of course works fine
USB Tether works (woot!) and no long kills my phones USB connection when un-tethering (double woot!)
BT worked fine
NFC Works
Audio book played without any audio distortions/glitches (issue in another KK rom)
Google Nav/Maps is still using the wrong voice - an issue I had in the 10.2 build which may have carried over due to dirty flashing. The other KK rom I use uses the correct voice.
Using the PA Gapps Mini-Mod package
Had to reset my battery meter setting since the 10.2 option doesn't exist (yet) in 11 - had me confused for a bit since I had >no< battery meter lol
Aside from having to use CWM, this is pretty dang slick so far.
has the updater been implemented? The one really cool thing I liked about CM
What is ART? Is it optional?

i've never had these issues myself, but i can see why they would arise. i think a warning or piece of advice should be mentioned stating that if someone plans on using ART, they should enable it immediately upon rom installation, before other apps are installed. that way, optimization isn't as tedious of a process

Hello,
I would've posted this in the hyperdrive forum, but alas, I am still under 10 posts. So, this was the next best thing. I have an I747 which I am running Hyperdrive on, and so far I really like it. I just ran into the issue with the camera today. The camera itself was working just fine, but once I switched to the video camera, all hell broke loose. Every time I try to open the camera app, all it does is hang and force close. I can't even switch it back to the camera. I tried to flash the zip fix through TWRP, but it didn't have an effect. Am I doing anything wrong?
FYI: when I flashed the zip, I dirty flashed as it was a small file, and I figured that was fine, although I could've done it wrong.

Alright, so I went back and re-read the OP on hyperdrive, and saw this:
"IF YOUR CAMERA DOES NOT WORK, YOU NEED TO FLASH AN UPDATED KERNEL FOR YOUR CARRIER!!"
So I went and flashed ktoonsez's kernel for TW based 4.1.2 ROMS. followed his instructions to a "T". Flashed the kernel, wiped cache and Dalvik, fixed permissions, and rebooted.

No change in the damn camera. It's still stuck in video mode, and FC's after only a few seconds. It won't let me change the setting back to the camera from video, and none of the buttons work while in the app.

That's really weird. I have the note 2 camera on rls 16 and it works fine. I didn't need to flash a fix or anything. Maybe try reflashing the rom ? Or perhaps you got a bad download in which case you could try redownloading it.

Just as an update, I did get this to work by reflashing the ROM and using the stock s3 camera instead of the note one. Since then I have moved on to the Slimbean ROM. I just wanted a smaller, lighter ROM, and am not really a fan of Touchwiz. The great thing about all of this, is that I can go back whenever I want!
