GAPPS - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

OK so when I flashed the Team Vicious Sense Rom, I had SD reading issue. So great...
So then I realized, I can save everything. All I gotta do is upload my backup to dropdbox and my other important root files(S Voice, HD Stock boot, Sense theme).
So then I unrooted to did the problem. Redownloaded my backup and restored it. And excellent. Saved and running.
Then I got all my root files back and I realized something.
I didn't save my GAPPS. This wasn't just any gapp. This gapp actually allowed me to prevent wiping my data for for the Google services to work. And it was the only one I found that did this.
So ever since then I've been shreading the internet for gapps just like this.
Can someone PLEASE send me a link that has a gapp file that does this. I don't like wiping for a Rom.

What's the problem with using the normal GAPPS? Its not that big of a deal to wipe, as it can save headaches and problems later on
Btw, if all you needed was the gapps file, you didn't have to tell such a long story. Could've just explained what you needed.

Just wanted to explain what happened. =p
I did however find a way to make all gapps work the same way. Kinda
What I did was save all the files that seems like a Google thing on rom toolbox.
But I don't really trust it and don't think it works well. I've done it on Paranoid Android and it was a success. But I was only able to get 100 apps that "worked" and the other many thousands that does work were seen as "incompatible".
Also Google partner setup would crash constantly. What is this set up anyways???
But I want a GAPP that works like this. I thought it was a normal GAPP. But it's different and allows me to flash what ever the hell without consequences as long as it was made for the toro nexus.

[Q] Help I deleted a system file

Hey I got my phone rooted, so I installed Titanium Backup, and then I uninstalled the stock browser, the download manager, and also android.downloader or something like that. And I broke my phone - now Google Play just crashes instantly.
I've tried reinstalling the firmware, and resetting to factory, but it's still the same.
Is there anything I can do, other than take it back to the store?
Help!!!!!
EDIT: It gives the error "Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped."
did you do a nandroid backup?> if not we need to know the exact application you deleted. future reference DONT DELETE. just freeze then its just a simple unfreeze and a freeze also stops the app from running. you will not get more available memory by doing this because this is on a different partition. Also never delete or freeze anything referring to com.android they are core funtions that are required for your device to run properly.
You deleted a process?!
My money would be that android.download or whatever process you deleted was required for Google Play to work. Hopefully you made a Nandroid before modifying processes. If not, you'll have to flash a stock ROM to get it back.
Alternatively, if you backed up system data with Titanium Backup, you might be able to find the process in there and restore it.
Echoing drksilenc, don't uninstall things through Titanium Backup unless you're positive it won't mess something up. How can you be positive? One, deleting processes always causes problems. Even freezing them can be messy. Don't do it. Two, in the case of an app, you'll know it's ok if you've had it frozen for a week or so and the phone hasn't acted up. Even with system apps, though, I recommend freezing rather than uninstalling. It's safer, and you never know if you might want/need that app again.
It gets worse.
I went down to the Bell store (my phone's actually from Bell, but they're similar to the AT&T ones, right?) and they wouldn't exchange it. So I tried going into the Clockwork Recovery, and wiped all of the little folders in "Advanced Settings." Because I noticed that Bell's add-on apps kept coming back, why weren't the other ones I deleted? And now it's a useless brick, says SAMSUNG and that's it.
Brand new one-day old superphone, totally wrecked. I don't even think there are any stock ROM's out there for this thing yet.
I'm a meathead.
I'll try reinstalling the firmware again that I did before, maybe I'll get lucky.
Nope, still nothin'.
So now I'm going to do something really crazy. Somebody on the interwebs says you can flash the SGH-1317M with the stock rom for the GT-N7105. Says it's the same thing except it's the international version and that it's even better.
I went to samsung-updates.com and searched for the Note 2, and sure enough, it's on their list of ROMs for the Note 2. So I'm downloading the GT-N7105, and I'ma gonna install it, unless someone here tells me different!

Any rom in our dev section should fix you try clean rom ans stop using titanium vackup. Why are you debloating roms when devs did it for you already and obviously you see you have no clue what you're doing?
[/COLOR]Lol... that didn't work at all... I thoughtbthe links would copy over... look in the android dev section theres a rom there for you. .. 8)

Just flash any rom in the android development section usinf twrp or cwm, it will rebuild /system and fix any issues. In the future dont delete or uninstall system apps, just freeze them if you think yiu dont need it. Freezing stops the app from running ans taking up any cpu or memory so its almost as good as deleting (it still technically takes up space but this phone has plenty of space) with nine of the dangers. If something stopped working like play store, youvcan defrost the apps yiu froze easy enough.

Yes we promise lol and dont freeze or delete anything just leave it to the devs and only download stuff from this forum i317/i317m
Sadly, failure
I downloaded CleanROM Lite 1.0.zip, put it on the SD card, and used Clockwork Recovery to install it. The installation went without a hitch, but trying to boot the phone, all I get is the SAMSUNG logo still. So I did a factory reset, wiped the cache, wiped the Dalvik cache, and did "fix permissions", but it's the same.
So I'm downloading the other ROM ("Stock Root - De-Odex") and will try that presently.

These roms take a while to boot how long did you wait. Look you didnt break your phone from deleting apps just flash the rom and wait it will boot. Remember these roms are 750-800 mb worth of data to boot not 250mb like aosp roms, takes few mins to boot

You might have been right. I'm so used to it just freezing up that maybe I wasn't patient enough and just assumed.
But it works now! I flashed the Stock ROM, and it booted up with no problems. Then I flashed the lite one again, and it works too. So now I'm going to try the other ROM on the dev page, see how it looks.
And it's still rooted, so hooray!
Thanks for all your help.

[Q] Help problem with rooting with cm10 and need to restore important files lost.

I need help I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 from at&t 1317. Right know it changed since I rooted with cm-10.1-20130219-NIGHTLY-t0lte to model number GT-N7105 kernel 3.0.31. The thing is I rooted first with chainfire auto root and it went all well and I was happy, but I saw the themes and changes the other more advanced (in my opinion) and decided to root with the cm10. I followed the instructions and made a backup with clockwork mode touch recovery and all. When the backup was finished I copied it to my laptop just in case. I used rom manager to install the cm10 and all went smoothly or so I thought. The phone turned on and showed the Samsung name and the it showed the custom boot animation of the android pissing on the apple. But it got stuck on that for more than 15 minutes. I panicked and tried to turn off the phone but to no help. I removed the battery and put it in recovery mode and tried to use the backup but said it wasn’t functioning I tried using the Samsung toolkit or odin to flash it but nothing. The toolkit said waiting for adb and did nothing. I still have the backup. I in my panick did a factory reset thinking that would put the stock rom but to my disaster it erased everything. I then rooted on top of it to see if it would get rid of cm10 I did it with the auto root from chainfire but cyanogenmod doesn’t want to leave my phone. At first I didn’t even have google play store but just now thanks to something clockwork did I have it again. Please I just want my phone to get restored with the backup I did im not asking for more I have important files I cant ever replace if they are lost forever. The contacts, app data, documents on the internal storage is what most needs help. The other things on the external tips would be appreciated too.
Don't panic. You did a factory reset and may have wiped all. Was this a cwm factory reset or twrp factory reset? It sounds like cwm. Which is, like you said, a full wipe. Your best bet is to use data restore apps. Disk digger in the store can restore all kinds of photos. But you may have to use a different one. Unfortunately the phone attached via MTP so computer software has a hard time seeing it as a drive.
You should read and re-read before flashing
You have not rooted with cm10 you flashed cm10 which happens to be rooted.
Rooting is simply allowing advanced administration privileges for the phone. Nothing more. Flashing a ROM is your whole operating system.
What kind of files are you trying to restore?
Also on cm10 when you flash cm10 in recovery you should flash gapps with it. That's how you get play store. You may have burned yourself due to a lack of understanding.
Go to file manager. Go to settings and enable root mode.
Then grant permission. On the pop up.
Then go to the highest folder /
Then go to /data
Then /data/media
What do you see in here? All your files? Or just like 2 folders. One named 0 and one named legacy (I believe.)
Anyone if the files aren't in /data/media then you erased them. And your vest bet is a file restoring app. And this may be difficult. Don't use your phone for anything. The longer you wait. The more likely these files will be written over.

I don't wanna come off as mean, but you need to read up alot more on rooting and what it does. You installed a rom, not a different root. When you install any rom, you have to factory reset your phone and that wipes apps and their data. Before you wipe anything you should backup aps and their data with something like titanium backup. I'm guessing you didn't do that so as far as I know your app data is gone. It is a learning experience, now you know what not to do next time. Just read up a little more

I didnt use titanium but I used clockwork. The problem was I didnt know how to use it. The root thing I know Im no expert (sadly). But right know I managed to use but only part of the phone has backed up. Question when the back up is used do i delete it then from my files because of the storage? As you said yourself I dont know much but with help from people like you I hope that I can change that if at least a little
Solved it
My phone is back to the other rom it had just needed to move the backup file to the folder of clockwork. Im gonna change rom in the near future but how do I prevent loosing again the data and keeping the new rom I instal?
I would read up alot about flashing custom roms and using an app like titanium backup to backup your apps and data. I would go on YouTube and search on how to use clockwork and what everything does. There are plenty of videos on doing all of that stuff on YouTube. I would stay on what you are on right now until you feel comfortable

I recently changed to android from blackberry and its a world I didnt know existed. Its awesome so I was scared stiff lol but like you said with time you learn and by reading and watching. I have read somewhat but havent seen much videos.
Custom roms are fun to play with but can get out in trouble.. sometimes you spend more time fixing the problem you caused then having fun, maybe by wiping or not wiping the right areas, maybe a bad flash or just an all around bad flash... soo agreed, learn more about cwm and teamwin and roms before you attempt anything.. but there are always ppl willing to help...

Storage issues help

I'm suddenly having storage issues with every ROM that I flash after running a ROM with some script that isn't widely used.
First I'll give you a brief idea of my problem. I"m running out of storage and get notifications from the market saying as much after I download and reasonable amount of apps. The thing is... It show's I have used 738MB of ext4 out of 1.5 so that isn't the issue. The problem is internal memory. My phone won't move dalvik cache for some reason. When I run any ROM with a2sd or m2sd they both say that there is a problem and leave the dalvik cache where it is.
I think my internal folders are jacked up from 40ad2sdx or a zip that was used to clear memory before the ROM. There was a ext4 superwipe cleaner to load before the ROM. I did that without researching first. When I did go looking for the thread about it, it plainly said that it was for one phone only, and it wasn't my phone. I believe it was the Galaxy S3, but I can't be certain. It was a week ago. It was advised not to use it on any other phone because part of what it did was reset the internal folders. Does this mean I can now flash a ROM for the galaxy s3? Lol Just kidding.... Seriously, the second part is all my speculation and I have been wrong many times concerning android. Will somebody help me get my phone back in oem condition please?
Okay, I'm not even sure what you did here, because not knowing the script, anything could have happened.
Try wiping everything and flashing stock rooted here, then go from there with other roms after that.
If that doesn't work. Here's what I would do. It might be a major pain, but it is almost a surefire fix.
Unroot and return to stock, then root again.
[UNROOT]
[ROOT]
For future reference, NEVER flash anything that is meant for another device. (Obviously, if it's a port then you're ok.)
ALSO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Backup your SD card, and wipe that puppy clean!! Only partition using Amon-RA recovery, otherwise it will screw you up quite often. I repeat, if you do not have the partition done correctly, then odds are that A2SD or equivalent won't work.

I did the wipe and flash to stock earlier today, then flashed the Pac man ROM but the issue is still there. I had looked at unrooting my phone earlier today also. I'm glad to read this because it lets me know that I do have some idea of what to do. Thanks for the reply. I'll post here again with the results. Check back soon.
EDIT----> Man, my phone is okay. I loaded up a fairly recent ROM by Tronit, and it worked fine. It was the ROMs. Just to be sure, I went back to the last two ROMs just to see, and they did the same thing again. Now I'm on the AOKP Unnoffical and it's working just fine. The a2sd is working perfectly like it should, and my dalvik cache is moving to ext4. It was just coincidental that the last three ROM's I loaded all have issue with the a2sd. It's funny how nobody else see's problems but me. I looked in the bin file of one of them and it's missing part of the a2sd file. The other two have weird init.d files that I don't know anything about. I'm assuming the a2sd problem is related to that. It's funny how I see lots of problems, and report them, but I get blown off by some people as a noob who is making mistakes. I am a noob, and I do make mistakes, but I know some of my theories about problems are correct...... I gotta get me some respect by compiling my own ROMs.
Status update..... My phone is jacked up for sure. It does work with the AOKP Unofficial by Tronit, but this morning when I cleared my cache with Smelkus Recovery, it had major problems with almost every app. Clearing the cache in recovery is something I've done with every ROM and this has never happened. I uninstalled all the apps and reinstalled them. Got them working again. Everything seemed to be okay. However, when I cleared my cache with Android Tuner, again it ruined every app. I've used android tuner every day for two months to clear the cache and never had problems like this. Something is very wrong.

Long story short, I flashed something made for another phone. I can't explain why I did this without taking up lots of pages, and it doesn't even matter really. Lets just focus on the solution. Here is the link. I flashed both of the zips in the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
So I think my permissions for the files on my phone are out of whack. Is that what I"m reading is the possible outcome of flashing these if your phone is not the one listed? Please post your thoughts. I need them.

I did that. Both with Smelkus, and Mini partition wizard. Same problems. I just tried to fix permissions with smelkus 4.3 on the AOKP Unofficial ROM and it took a minute for it to do it's thing. The line of dots was two full rows. So when It loaded back up, I suddenly see the same disk Icon in my notification bar, and now this ROM says it it out of memory. Man, it was working fine. I had twenty more apps on it too and I uninstalled them. It was working fine then, so with twenty less apps, it shouldn't suddenly say "Running out of Storage space."
I have told you this already: Please do not flash things meant for other phones, it could mess up. If it's meant for another device, it might screw yours up. To stay on the safe side: If it's not generic (works for every Android phone) or phone specific (exclusive to the Evo 4G) then don't flash it.

I flashed this about a eek ago, when I was looking for the ext4 wipe. I thought it was the same thing as another zip despite what it said. Stupid... I know. I think this may be the cause of my problems, but I can't be sure. I don't know at all really. Just speculations. I reflashed the CWM touch and used to flash a stock ROM. Gonna try that again. I ran the test on CWM touch and it said that the
/sys/class/android_usb/android0 was missing and unable to perform the test. Can this be the cause of my problems?
Don't beat yourself up man, it was an honest mistake, just learn from it and you'll be alright.
Now the optimal recovery for this device would be the Amon-RA recovery, and I recommend redoing what I said in my first post once you have Amon-RA installed. Amon-RA is an awesome recovery, and it's super easy to install. Check out this easy-to-follow video on how to install by clicking here.
Do that, then do what I said in the previous posts. Let me know what happens, because I'm almost certain this should work.

As I stated in my pm give me a day or so till I get back home and I will check into a fix for you. Only don't expect any one on one help. If the fix works cool if not I will dig further. TNN strives to help with any issue no matter who is at fault. I will look at the wipe script you flashed and see if it can be undone. Just be prepared of the possibility that your phone may never work correctly again.

I was finally able to get my phone straightened out. I loaded up a stock ROM then decided to use my SD Maid to look around. I found a file with completely different dates on it, but it wouldn't let me remove it. I ended up copying everything else in the subfolder and then deleted the parent folder. Then added everything else back. Wah lah.... magic. I don't know what that file was or where it came from but it was killing my internal memory. I'm wondering how it stayed from ROM to ROM. I dunno, but it's gone, and the Pacman ROM is lovely now. BOOM!!!!

Whatever I did only fixed part of the issue. I'm left with in a situation where every time I go into recovery my downloaded apps stop working. It is cutting part of them off whether I clear cache or not. All I have to do is power off into recovery, and when I reboot, all of my downloaded apps begin giving messages that "Unfortuately such ans such has stopped." My phone becomes inoperable. The only way I can keep it working is to send a new launcher to my phone from the market, let it install, then open it up and uninstall all the downloaded apps. I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix for someone like you Mancuso. I have a logcat and it show LOTS of errors that I have never seen before on any of my other logcats. What are my options? Tell me what to do to get my phone back to absolute OEM and then I'll reroot. UNLESS you know of some fix.
I've supplied a logcat from Catlog if you or anybody else wants to have a look. I'd really appreciate some help here. I love my Evo and I love learning this stuff. If somebody can help me positively identify the problem, I can most likely figure it out from there. Please give me your suggestions here. I'm nothing without some guidance on this. It's way out of my scope.
I've included a link to the ext4 script wipe that I used. How I got to this page, I do not know. However, I ran it because this page said it COULD POSSIBLY work on other phones despite the fact that it was made for another phone.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/darkside-super-wipe-easily-wipe-partitions-when-flashing-roms/
And I flashed both zips from the thread that the story links users to. Here is the link for the two zips.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
I'm not sure this is the problem. I'll try to find the Vold.fstat thread that I tried on my own before you came up with the 40ad2sdx solution for the MIUI ROM.
This is the memory fix I tried as mentioned above.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246909
Please note that you see before and after pics of sd storage. You can see that my pics clearly resemble the after pics shown in this thread. I believe this is my problem. How can I undo this?
This post reflects the only things I did outside of normal flashing. My problem is here somewhere...
The fix you used is for samsung devices. That could have caused your problems.

[Q] Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 Data Question

I recently unlocked and rooted my LGOG to the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 aokp ROM. Since installing the ROM I've been having on and off data problems, as in sometimes my data works but for days at times it doesn't (in the same areas as when it previously worked). My WiFi is working fine but this data problem is irritating especially since I'm out of contact when I leave WiFi range.
I searched the Dirty Unicorns 4.2.2 thread for possible solutions but no one else has reported this problem. I also have searched this Q&a thread and saw people suggesting to update the PRL but I am unable to find how to do that with this new ROM (I knew how to do it on the Stock UI).
So any help would be greatly appreciated. I love everything else about this ROM except for the data problem so I would prefer to keep it for daily use.

have you tried to swap out your apns.xml
http://d-h.st/Xin
try this one ... download extract use a rootfile browser replace the apns.xlm in system/etc giving it the same permissions as the other on rename the old to apns.xml.bak just in case the outcome is worse... reboot into recovery wipe cache and fix permissions... let me know how that goes for you...also can try restoring efs .... and can try going back to a stock based rom update prl and profile the reflash and check again
Thanks for the advice Spleef but unfortunately the apns.xml file did not work, so I guess the next step would be restoring efs. How would I go about doing that?

In Development. Lifeless, Vectus, Odex, Deodex, Imperium.

I can't get any stock zip to update my prl n that ...
Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Tried Lifeless which turned out to be a horrible choice because the phone now randomly reboots. Upon flashing the ROM, it wiped my SD card and in the process deleted TWRP from my device. One solution I have found is to flash another ROM (I'm going to go with Vectus) but without FreeGee I cannot access recovery to flash the new ROM. I cannot keep my device from rebooting long enough to access the Play Store and combined with the fact that I need to sign in the Play Store to enable my Google account on my device (therefore eliminating the option of installing any programs online), I am unable to access FreeGee.
I originally started this process to just fix my data (by installing a Stock ROM to update my PRL) but using everything I have done has exacerbated or created more problems. If there are any solutions or suggestions from any of the more experienced users I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.

wow trying to not be offended by that but if i was you do lgnpst.. the advice everyone has offered including myself was solid...we cannot help the fact that it didnt go right for you obviously must be something missed or done incorrectly since multitudes of others have followed this same advice and links and recovered just fine..your best bet lgnpst back to stock..gl im done offering advice now
LOL spleef you miscontrued the tone of my post. The "more experienced users" was not a slight against you or anyone else who has offered advice, it was in reference to myself since I am continually creating more errors. I am sorry if I offended you but that was honestly not the intention of my post. I appreciate all the advice you have given me, honestly I would be lost without it. I'll update with results.

Just to reenforce what sleef said. LGNPST with the ZVB.bin. That will definitely fix your phone. Another option is use teeny bin. Then in recovery, flash the stock odexed ROM by TheShadow1. It might not cute your problem, but it's a shorter way that might work.

Thank you everyone for your help (including you, spleef lol) I used LGNPST and got my phone back to stock then re-rooted and unlocked it. I'm going to try Dirty Unicorns again with the updated PRL and hopefully that fixes the original data problem. I just can't find the GAPPS 4.2.2 file now for Dirty Unicorns, when following the link on the OP the file is no longer available.
Nonetheless this was a great learning experience and thank you again!
let me know how that goes. as im also having data issue. im in the city all day and my reception/data would go from 4 bar to nothing in a matter of minutes lol. I would have to off/on data to get back my bars and data which is odd

hey i was able to download the apns.xlm onto my phone put a copy onto that location u said changed the original to .bak and wiped cache and fixed permission. I'll let u know if this works out fine since im home now using wifi

Resetting phone to completely factory settings without loosing data.

So I tried the Deuces Script to reset my phone to factory settings deleting -w
and it seems to keep saving settings / bad battery life coming from roms.
Currently on Dirty Unicorns. Cause it seemed like the most stable rom.
But I would like a guide on how to go back to stock in case it drives me nuts with how many apps force close (chrome and google now are annoying).
I have tried downloading full factory images and manually flashing it through fastboot while in bootloader.
Even making it unbootable. Coming from a long history of being a flashaholic. This phone is just problems with flashing. LOL. Beauty of a phone regardless. I do miss squeeze to activate google now as well. LoL and getting 8 hours of SOT (screen on time). OH! And I miss how fast it charged on stock rom while keeping my phones heat down!
START DISCUSSIONS! haha

With all the problems you are having, I think it is time you tried a complete wipe of the device, including data. I've had more "issues" on this device then I ever had on my shamu. I've done a complete wipe (including data) twice to solve issues that had no other solution. What I can tell you is that the complete wipe did solve the issue. You can backup your data to your PC and then reload it after the wipe. If you are using Duces script (which I did), the last command asks if you want to wipe data. Take the plunge. I did and I wasn't sorry.
