[Q] Battery drain seems high due to phone? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
For the last one week my battery drains faster and the phone app takes most of the battery.
I normally use CPU spy and Usually my phone would be in deep sleep mode for almost 95% but now it has dropped to 72.5% and some service on 1100MHZ takes 18%.
My BBS shows the following info.
Can you please help. Thanks in advance.

70% deep sleep is not actually bad.
Could be due to roaming ?

[Q] Is your phone able to go into DEEP SLEEP mode? Horrible battery life.

Has anyone downloaded CPU Spy from the Market to test to see if their phone can go into DEEP SLEEP mode?
I've been getting horrible battery life compared to my old Evo 3D (about 24-36hrs with 4G), now I'm lucky to get 12hrs.
I ran CPU Spy and it shows that my phone isn't deep sleeping, just wondering if this is an ICS thing?
No, my phone was able to deep sleep.
This can be an app, or glitch.
Once my phone was awake at 350mhz after rebooted for several hours. And for no reason google plus was shown when i activated it. But thats one time glitch.

[Q] Is high batter % for Cell Stanby and Phone idle normal?

Been trying to improve my battery life and I found this in my battery stats:
Cell standby: 41% (7% of time without a signal)
Phone idle: 35%
Android system: 10%
com.cooliris.media: 6% (Used to be default gallery, but I unintalled it)
Dialer: 6%
Display 3%
Is it normal for cell standby and phone idle to take up so much of the battery?
Yes. Cell takes up a lot of battery, especially if you are getting a low signal

If you use an app to reduce your minimum cpu mhz, the idle should take a bit less of battery

I already underclock my CPU. from 1GHz to 900Mhz, then at 30% battery life, goes down to 768Mhz, at 10% it only goes at 368Mhz.
And when the screen is off, it only goes at 245Mhz.

Are you using an app to get those results?
i work in an area where the signal coverage is really bad and when i leave with full battery in the morning, i get home even with ~50% only. the battery is basically killed just because it keeps searching for a network

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Battery Life Issues

I have a Galaxy Nexus running on Verizon. Rooted and running 4.0.3 stock rom. I have been having battery issues lately. Thinking it was the battery I went and bought a new one (Samsung battery at Verizon) and nothing has changed. I use my phone sparingly and have only had it off the charger for 4 hours now and it is already at 50%. Screen is taking up 39% of the power and nothing else is above 10%. Any ideas? Thanks!
The phone may not be sleeping.

Run this app and see what the deep sleep time is.
Also try installing Watchdog and see if you get anything that comes up using excessive CPU.

It says that my deep sleep is using 91% of the time in state. 12:34 Total State Time. Is that normal?

Better than normal that is good. my deep sleep is around 85% and i've been running for 14 hrs
battery is now 50% and screen time is over 1hr 30 mins.
Try better battery stats and check if there is any kernel wakelock.

Why does Phone Idle use so much power even though Nexus is in Flight more

My Nexus is currently at 50% battery life. Of the 50% that went by, the two highest contributers are screen on (50%) and phone idle (20%). All this time, the phone has been on airplane more (with wifi). Why is phone idle so high?

Could be an app/process waking the phone. For more advanced battery usage troubleshooting, try an app like BetterBatteryStats.

Could very well be this! I installed Google Wallet yesterday and I did notice some drain from this app. Better battery stats tells me it's contributed to 2 hours! I'm going to force close and wipe the apps data.

Phone idle is so high because your phone hasn't otherwise used any power. Even just sitting around is going to use some juice, hence the high percentage attributed to idle. Since you haven't really used it, other processes shouldn't have consumed as much.
Look at it in perspective. Your battery stats are going to tally up to 100%, or reasonably close. If absolutely nothing else at all consumed any power whatsoever, phone idle would show 100%.

Exactly this!
If you feel that the phone gets more battery life, you shouldn't worry. It's normal.
If you feel that the phone consumes more battery (Hence lower battery life), then check betterbatterystat or CPUspy, just in case it the phone isn't getting those deep sleeps.

What is your average Deep Sleep standby current?

Using Battery Monitor WIdget, my OnePlus One phone on CM12 has an average Deep Sleep standby current of around 8 mA.
Using BMW on SM-T800 stock 5.0.2, my Deep Sleep standby current was around 85 mA ... 10 times as much!!!
That's insane.
I disabled/uninstalled a bunch of the Samsung bloatware apps, and things are a little bit better: Averaging around 45 mA now.
But, that still seems insane. Shouldn't Deep Sleep get me lower than 45 mA?
Unfortunately, I can't get Wakelock Detector working on the SM-T800.
What is your average Deep Sleep standby current? And, are you running Stock 5.0.2 or something else?
Isn't anybody interested in improving their battery life? I know I am.
Just installed it, I suppose you leave the tablet for an hour then check the log file to see how many ma were being used when the tablet was supposedly in deep sleep mode.
I use GSam Battery Monitor for the Alarms, I am looking for an wake-lock app that works without root, I am always lloking for ways to save battery power.

Hi, @Tinderbox (UK) - I usually leave my tablet or phone idle overnight, so you can see a good pattern. With BMW, you can display the battery draw in mA, and set up the history tab to see the mA draw per reading.
Showing the % battery drain per hour is useless - If you have a big battery, the numbers could look small, but your current drain may still be higher than you want.
