[Q] Update Miui - HTC One V

Hi!
I installed Miui some months ago, version 2.8.3. The built-in updater says my Miui is up to date but it clearly is'nt. How do I update the best way? i'm not aan experienced developer. What is the step by step "to-do"?
I use the regular One V.
Thanks A lot!

firstly.. there is nothing as regular and irregular one v.. :/
and see in android development section... 3.1.11 is out.. download it and flash via recovery

Yeah, sorry but not really what I meant by step-by-step. Sorry to bother you but I really don't get this stuff.
The instructions there say:
1. get hellboy kernel cm10 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1954967
2. Boot into bootloader
- fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot reboot-bootloader
- fastboot erase cache
3. Boot into recovery - select install zip from sd card..then selct miuiv4.zip
after that reboot again into recovery flash gapps
I do know how to get in recovery, did it before (a year ago), select fastboot, but my computer doesn't do it. I can type fastboot devices but the computer doesn't recognize it. Do I need a program for that?
Also it says: note-fulll wipe is recommended if coming from any rom or else ul get stuck in boot loop. Is this prior to installing the updated ROM or afterwards? Because it is stated afterwards. I also read the WIKI but to me it looks like this is meant for people doing it for the first time, not an update.
Anyways:
I'm not super stupid, managed pretty well last time but I don't get the differences and don't want to mess up my device. I would love some help

Question regarding kernel

Ok... this is weirdest bug i ever seen.
After wipe all data (all thing) up new rom eg. paranoid, AOKP, myOneV... all of them.
1/Stock kernel is default, but modder need uploaded new kernel to run ether rom.
2/Flash new rom needed...yeah we got new kernel at first time... but when reboot phone.... what the f.... auto back-up to default kernel??
IE: AOKP, myOneV, CM10, ... need newest kernel to run, done... but only first time, the second boot is bricked....
=>Solve this for me plzzzz
My idea: why we don't cook new kernel vs new rom when release new version?

lemme explain what did he say, he got prob when up new rom, the rom needed flash boot (new kernel), he know about it. The 1st is flash, boot to phone, he can see new kernel in setting then use whatever like overclock, undervolt, install app,... then he make a reboot (restart) go to setting menu, he regconize the original kernel is back, overclock is disable, same at undervolt and bricked phone if original kernel no compatible with that rom. That's the PROBLEM.

Wipe all data or wipe all cache? dalvik cache? can u explain....
See when u go.to a rom page there will be a link for kernel......and take the kernel and don't restart our it will be stuck in boot loop....
No go to recovery with out restarting....wipe all data if a new rom...
And then download the link and

i think they are using hassoon tool to flash the kernel, because that script will automatically reboot the phone after the kernel is flashed .
1.You need to first, take THE kernel for the RESPECTIVE ROM
2. Rename it to boot.img
3. You have to have installed the Android SDK + the platform tools to be able to take advantage of fastboot
4. Reboot your phone into bootloader.
5. Connect your phone to your PC.
6. Press start, enter RUN and type cmd. Press enter.
7. Type your path where your sdk is installed (i.e CD C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\)
8. Put the boot.img into the platform-tools folder
9. Now go back to CMD use "fastboot flash boot boot.img" without the quotes.
10. It will send a message like "sending boot.img.... done... writing boot img.... done.... elapsed x seconds).
11. Reboot Recovery from bootloader.
12. Wipe everything and then flash your rom.
13. Reboot and that's it.
As simple as that. If you don't know how to use android sdk or you don't have it installed, simple use the search bar and type android sdk tutorial.

Thanks for that, little nervous as the last time I installed a custom ROM (other than my nexus 7) I thought I'd bricked my phone took me two days to get it working (HTC Desire)..
So following those instructions will do the job ?
I need to understand the terminology kernels , boot.img , ROMS, RUU but following those instructions and download the ROM extract the boot.img install that on my phone with fast boot on my PC then boot into TWRP and install the ROM and that's it ?

then fastboot erase cache
then boot to recovery and install the rom.zip via recovery.
Thanks so it really is that simple or am I missing something seen lots having problems with boot loops etc is there anything else I need to be aware of
As far as I can see the order and actions I need to do bearing in mind my HTC is already bootloader unlocked and rooted
1Download the ROM copy to phone
2 Extract Boot.IMG from the ROM
3 Boot my phone into boot loader
4 Connect to PC and in fastboot (phone shows fastbootusb) fast boot flash boot boot.img
5 Still in fastboot fastboot erase cache
5 Boot into recovery (connected to PC or not?) Full wipe then install the ROM followed by installing the updates through recovery
Thanks again

Unlock the bootloader, go to adb/fastboot folder and store your ROM's boot.img there. Shift + Right Click within that folder and Open command window (be in fastboot mode on your phone in the meantime) :
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
Go to recovery, wipe all except SD (you can if you don't need your files) and flash a fresh ROM. Also, lock the bootloader and never ever flash any custom ROM again if you're going to call it crap whenever you fail.
edit: it isn't that easy to brick the device, and finally, your topic doesn't belong in this subforum.

The rom is crap because it didn't work or because you don't have a clue what your doing? It's not nice to say the roms crap when so many people have used without problem and without a doubt the problem will be down to you. People put a lot of time and effort into roms for free so try to be more respectful.

Agree
As previously said - These guys are all doing soooo much work for us (the community) and it's NOT paid - anyone who makes a ROM, ANYONE - needs to be applauded even for trying, but I'm sure that most ROM chefs test their roms to a point before releasing them and that you've probably missed a step or flashed incompatible zips or something...
Did you extract the boot.img from the roms zip file and "fastboot flash boot boot.img" it? It sounds like you might have been playing with ROMS which all worked on the same kernel and now you've flashed one which uses a different one, resulting in a bootloop like you say - I'm a noob and have done this a few times. Boot into bootloader, fastboot flash your boot.img, then boot into recovery and flash the rom (factory reset / wipe all data / cache / dalvik) and you might be lucky enough to boot into the rom!
These steps MAY not fix your problem if it is something else - but from my experience they are not steps which will brick your device, if you don't think you've flashed the boot.img - then I'd start there.
With our HOX's you ALWAYS need to remember (ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS) to flash (in fastboot mode) your boot.img (which is 99% of the time, included inside the roms ZIP file...
Hope I've helped!
(Hit thanks if I did! )
Before saying those "crappy" words to the rom. Read alot first. All the answers are in the forum. Rom chefs dedicate time to cook a good rom.

Guys......its not the rom, its not the boot.img.........surprise ! Its his hboot (1.12)
Get that updated otherwise it will never run.
And please loose the attitude towards roms that don't boot. They all boot but check the requirements first
Its your phone/hboot that does not support it

Problem after root Red Triangle/Question mark after Reboot

Hello guys, I have HTC One V GSM which was recently unlocked and rooted by me. I don't remember how I got that but got it Rooted somehow.
Now Problem is I am unable to backup recovery, unable to install Rom, unable to install themes, after every reboot of following actions,
In Rom Manager
Reboot into recovery takes me to red question mark
The Rom you are using doesn't support OTA updates. The developer of this Rom needs to make the appropriate changes so their ROM support OTA update. Please contact ROM developer.
Installation Rom from sd card also shows red question mark.
In ROM Toolbox pro
Rom management
when i install MIUI (one of the ROMs available seen there) after reboot into recovery option same "red question mark"
unable to change font once I got them changed fortunately/unfortunately
so basically I don't know what to do. I don't even know what exactly can i do after Root else then deleting few pre installed apps
I am very very, in fact very, new to all these tech things just checked internet and did few things.
Please help me guys
1) don't use rom manager
2) it seems you don't have a recovery. Flash it again via fastboot
Thanks Mr Nooby for your reply
Since I am very new to these, did u mean the same procedure I did after unlocking bootloader? procedure of rooting?
Is there anyway I can stat over with new Root I mean fresh after Unlocked bootloader? Then may be I can re start installing Roms and tweaking phone?
Yeah you can flash roms and stuff. Remember that fastboot folder you used to root the phone? Put the recovery file (go for twrp recovery, you can find it in original development of this phone) in that folder, connect the phone in fastboot mode, open cmd and type "fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img", it will send recovery to the phone. From there you can install roms. Never use rom manager, it bricks your phone. And whenever you flash a rom, remember to flash kernel or it will be in boot loop

Opened cmd from same folder typed fastboot openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-primou or openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-primou.img
then pressed recovery
phone restarted green circle thing and then Red triangle with exclam sign. then rebooted by own and nothing happened.
I might be wrong doing it but unable to do anyting.

Flashing cynogenmod without google apps

I hope I'm not asking a question that has been answered else where that I could find. So basically I have an AT&T galaxy note 2 that I bought with Cleanrom on and has TWRP. I have been reading up and watching videos and want to flash a new rom. However I find roms I don't see the google apps with the rom file. From what i see you need to flash the rom and then flash the google apps onto it to have the play store.
For instance, I downloaded the stable release cm-10.2-20130924-NIGHTLY-t0lteatt.zip that came out today. I put it on my phone, and i see in twrp where i can install it. However on the cynogenmod website they don't have a separate file to download for google apps. Is this like a universal file or do all roms not need these files?
ALSO, I just want to make sure it is okay to just flash the rom in TWRP and I do not need to go about this another way.
You will need to flash gapps after you flash the ROM and you boot up first time. You'll need the most current gapps package for 4.3 ROMs. Check goo they have all the gapps listed.

Do you know if it is fine to flash cynogenmod right in TWRP? I read somewhere the fastboot should be used, but it wasn't the exact same situation i'm in so i wanted to clarify before i screw anything up

Fastboot is for HTC phone flashing. Samsung flashes in a custom recovery.
Okay, I guess i'm just confused when I see things like this.
To install this ROM you will need to have an unlocked bootloader and a custom Recovery such as TWRP or ClockWorkMod installed
Copy the downloaded ProBAM to your phone.
boot in bootloader
select fastboot mod
flash boot.img via fastboot that is located in the .zip fastboot flash boot boot.img
Boot into your custom recovery
Back up your ROM
Enter custom recovery
Make full wipe "included "system"
Install the ROM
install GAPPS package
Reboot - the first boot can take up to 2 minutes
From what i can see, I can start up in recovery and just flash the .zip.. Don't see how I can get into fastboot mod in TWRP
Fastboot flash instruction should be ignored when using a Samsung device ...
Simply install the appropriate TWRP or CWM recovery to the device ....
From that point you can choose the compatible rom of your choice ...and flash the .zip from within the new recovery ...
No fancy HTC stuff here ...
Also ...it is highly recommended to thoroughly read the install instructions of each rom prior to flashing...as they often contain special instruction that can get missed ...
Welcome ....you have a great device that is very easy to flash when done properly ....g

Those are the steps, buddy. Honestly, the hardest part of the process is holding all three buttons to boot into recovery.

oiii, i'm missing something. How do i do this part? Or were those just copied instructions and i can disregard? Sorry for making this more difficult than it is.
boot in bootloader
select fastboot mod
flash boot.img via fastboot that is located in the .zip fastboot flash boot boot.img
I would like to know where you are looking at the instructions --they are not for a samsung galaxy model...
I had it on my desktop I'm on my phone now. It was a thread for the probam ROM for note 2 att version. Cant seem to find it on my phone at the moment.
Fastboot is an HTC thing. Not Samsung. Double check your sources.
Sent from my CLEAN Note II
Okay looks like someone commented on the threading saying the instructions were wrong and they were changed. Now I feel much more confident. Will do tonight when I get home.
