Saying good bye, folks!
I didn't find any other thread to say this than this one, tha says "What's Best for You?"
I must say that I am changing phone. Going for the "O soo called Galaxy S3", finally , but right now, with it in front of me already rooted and atualized, I can't simply dispose my Galaxy W...
We have lived for a little long time (about 1 year and half!!!) and I followed EVERY atualization of ROMs and stuff here. Not as a developers, but as a (24/7) tester I feel like I've made part of the history of this device, together with all of you, guys!
I saw our máster arco68 simply godify itself by making this phone everyday a better one, fully coresponding with every need of we, users.
I'm going to keep connected to this fórum and to this threads, as I'm passing my W(arrior) to my brother, and must say:
I'll miss this, guys... :crying:
Thanks for all support, for all questioning and, principal, THANKS to our Godveloper arco68, who made me one of the thousands W user happy and functional!
I want to one day open this thread and see our CM9 and CM10 FINAL RELEASE all updated, making all W users felling like slaping Samsungs face after this phone being disposed for atualizations!
Once more, THANK YOU ALL, guys! :highfive: :fingers-crossed:
:good:

CM7 Nightly is perfect for my Defy!

Just my 2C - after trying Barebones 1.55 Peas & Carrots, PaysROM, CM7 RC0 and RC1 and 110625 Nightly, and coming from original Nordic Froyo - my Defy is now perfect.
Video still is not 100% perfect, but I can film in wide-mode without lag now, so that's good enough for me (green lens). Using LG Camera app and 2Mbit decoding seems to do the trick for me...
Other than that - the device performs spotless. Running standard settings in CM7 as overclocking more seems to affect the stability, and it's flying as it is on CPU:1000.
I love this forum and the excellent work you guys put in. This seriously made my phone a device I can make "my own", thanks to all the apps and mods that people in here make.
thx.. was searching for which nightly would b best.
07/27 is perfect for me! no more camera bugs, great battery comsumption...
what a good news. I can't wait to upgrade to this version. Thanks for your post!

I'm using CM7 RC1v2 and my battery life is a bit shy of 2 days. like 44 hours or so.
Hey I got a question, I'm using Cyanogen Mod V7.1 RC1 v1
There is two problems I've encountered, just want to know if its also there in the nightly mod you have.
1. WMA files wont play unless I use Vplayer with software codec.
2. Cannot converge calls and start a conference.
You guys got the same issues with nightly mod or rc1 v2?

Better wait for a patch of the cm7 of phiexz cause im using it right now and its has a problem on sound. Its so much low. Everithing else its stable. If you choose it instal beats audio mod on Ace forums, the Ultimate Media Enchancement on themes and apps forums. With this two scripts the sounds back to normal but its a little low anywhere :/

phiexz now share his ROM at gio community, or you can straight download from his blog. http://android.phiexz.com
for sound problem in his blog phiexz got the answer.
there is hardly communication. about the rom
is a2sd. still proprietary?
is this kernel related?
copying. library. files from anywhere to anywhere is no solution just an idea....
a rom without. relayable sound. is not a phone so not a stable working thing
are the sound libs kernel related? or just. rom
is it rc3. or still old rc2?
are. we on a dead. trail, nothing. seems to live on gio anymore?

Hi there, u sound so... sad  be a little bit optimistic will ya? LOL I have a series of rom collection that is, according to me, stable enough: PX's CM7, Delano's LEWA, Delano's MIUI GB, self built CWM DXKT8, AOKP ICS B40, tioammar's Android X (my current rom)
Seriously none of the above came stable enough out of the box except PX's CM7 & tioammar's Android X (most stable, ready to use right after flashing), but doing some stuff to the rom makes them (those not too stable) stable enough for daily use
so keep ur spirits up :good:
i have not seen tips to make roms really more stable...
use a2sd to free memory but all but standard (public available beta) is stable, s2e made it to work for . 2. full minute's. and had to reflash...
problems with the later Rome with beautiful. cm menues is the entered. data is not applied..settings get corrupted and the whole thing locks up, leaving a completely. unreliable. phone.
a phone without sound is no solution then....
realty love the stability. brought by phietz
but not seeing any comments nor explaining. makes. me a bit sad.
with the other Rom believe. me i tried most of them but every, daily (required) reboot doesn't, warranty me the basics..... feel ashamed. to walk arround and can not pick up the phone in timely due to. one or other lockup or crash reboot in-between a call.
Enthusiastic Gio User
Very glad with the work done
But sometimes a pusher for results( nothing bad intended)
i will be forced to go back. to stock rom
as i was in the pre phietz. period
I see, perhaps there are some difference in your standards of requirement for rom spec and mine
Back when CM7.2 start to have stability issue with A2SD and S2E (2 months ago estimated) I started to switch permanently to Link2SD, but it wont free as much rom space as the other 2, then I started to open up the rom and bareboned it as much as I could go without damaging the stability, there are plenty of guide for this, cyanogen has his own barebones list, the OP for Adrenaline has his own guide for it too, those 2 were my guides, as for apk that I am not sure of deleting, I would google it up and do some trial n error, up to today, everything seems fine to me. A bareboned rom will eat up 45mb right after installation, that will leave a lot of space for Link2sd to work with the rest of the apps that I need to install on my phone.
init.d scripts: I have been using reference from zeppelinrox's V6, Adrenaline, and Pikachu's Thunder Bolt Package, but I do not use all of them together, Adrenaline is most suitable for Gio because the author wrote it for Ace, which has almost identical spec to gio, but I do not use all of his tweaks, instead, I opened up all the scripts written in the above packages and read the tweak sentence by sentence, I am not a programmer/ IT guy, in fact, I work in a hotel for a living, muahahahaha  when I started I dont have a clue about what is on my laptop screen, but I took my time and read through the entire V6, Adrenaline, Thunderbold thread, and slowly beginning to understand, and still am learning, muahahahaha  the scripts may not be perfect, but it does help in speeding and stabling stuff for the phone.
Sound: I have to agree with u that the latest release of PX CM7 has low sound, again, I use some available sound boost package available, well not @ XDA, but @ Delano's forum, it helps the rom "a bit" and frankly from what I have in my AOKP rom, none of the CM or even the STOCK rom's sound can compare to it, muahahahaha  but ICS AOKP port is still far from what I need from my phone function for my work, so I switched back to CM7 but due to missing AOKP setting style, instead of PX's CM, I picked tioammar's Android X because the settings panel is "SLICK" muahahahaha
update-cm-7.2.0-20120602-NIGHTLY-gio-AROMA.zip from PX is a nice rom, to counter the camera bug (governor switch back to ondemand), u could flash his latest cm kernel px-kernel-20120606-cyanogenmod7 and the bug will be gone...
Its nice to see u pursuing high standards, I compromise some stuff off, muahahahaha

Guys I just have a simple question (I'm kinda new to these)

Hey guys I have galaxy w (I bought it 10 or 12 days ago).Don't worry i studied my lesson.I know how to root, flash, install apk etc.
I rooted my phone and installed REM ICS.But i'm not happy with it.Because it has a few problems
In the first place, i want to tell you what i'm looking for.
I just want proper sms app (no mms converting), WORKING gps, menu customization [not by date or title (i'm happy with touchwiz)]
Most important -> goot battery life. That's all folks.
But i can't find a rom that meets my wishes.
Now i'll install rebel rom 3.0.6.
But if you have a recommendation PLEASE let me know.
p.s. : I'm sorry if there are grammar mistakes. Thanks in advance. :good:
CyanogenMod Alpha 8 version should be good to you
but you have the SMS to MMS converter on everyrom (i think) & touchwiz
but normally in options you can adapt it
good batterylife & performance
Or BioHazard has it all (based on cyanogenmod)
just flash the ROM + extra sms file (to get normal sms lay-out) - Biohazard customisation - good batterylife & performance (& touchwiz)
has jellybean 3 features & customisation
EhndroiX is a nice rom based on cyanogenmod
but it has it flaws, batterylife isn't perfect but it's a smooth ROM
it also has touchwiz and Jellybean lay-out
Personally i'm running EhnDroix right now but i'm thinking to switch to cyanogenmod (due to the better batterylife) or biohazard
Now about the GPS function you can use Google Maps / Navigation, you can also download Sygic GPS (look on some forums for a "free" version of it )
then you will have a free offline GPS system with TomTom maps navigation
i hope i helped you out a bit

Ive been using SGW for a lot of time now, when i had the stock rom i used ADW laucher for the menu. As for the battery life, keep 3G turned off or install JuiceDefender, it turns on 3g every X minutes, instead of keeping it on all the time. It also adjusts the brightness. My battery would last nearly 3 days that way with moderate calling.
Hugs.
Also i wonder if there is something wrong with my original samsung charger. When i charge my phone with its original charger, battery drains quickly (%85 in 2.2 hours). But when i charge it with my friend's htc's charger it downs to %97 in 2 hours.Just weird.

As I know Rebel ROM is not coming with a TW launcher, you may try Black Notes Last Page if you wish, it came with a TW launcher, just for your info, in Black Notes, you would have to reboot your phone after running the 99SuperCharger init.d script, as it may cause you unable to receive your message, but it wouldn't really affect you if you don't run the script. Hope it helps.

Are you using the USB cable as charger? That one will be much slower than the charger. For a decent battery life, I would recommend you to use a GB ROM with Juice Defender at this moment, because the battery life for CM9 may be vary from version to version at this moment.
I use its original charger (mini USB).I installed rebel rom it seems like it's okay. But i'm not sure yet.
Ok it sucks more i know it now.SMS problems, slow browsers, performance sucks
Looking for good battery life? Most of the GB roms provide good battery life. Not so sure with ICS roms, right now. If you don't mind using GB rom, i would recommend you MUTANT ROM, not bad.

If you are looking for an economical premises ROM battery GB ROM only the best in my opinion.
I myself have come back to GB after I felt in CM9 b8 only for reasons of battery.
I myself use kezra v4 final ROM, kernel xxlm8. And what you need everything works fine here.

Also, try upgrading baseband. Older baseband might have bugs that made it too aggressive and/or not smart enough to tune power usage.
Back in the CM9 thread, someone posted that he experienced a great boost in battery life after upgrading baseband.
Word of caution: make sure that the newer baseband is compatible with your country's networks.

[Q] Help choosing ROM for samsung galaxy w

Greetings, let me briefly explain my ROM related adventures.
I was sick and tired of the stock rom, it was slow and ugly.
I installed a Paranoid Android rom I found but it got stuck in a loop at boot and I was recomended to try another one that wasn't outdated.
I was recomended a PAC rom. It worked just fine, but it consumed a lot of RAM. Never having too much ram to spare the phone was extremely slow when accessing the store and other "heavy" actions.
Recently I installed the bionic cow rom I saw from the samsung galaxy w rom page but it reboots the phone spontaneously, I found in the thread of the rom that it has been discontinued and I should look for another one.
In sum, I need recomendations for a rom that is both light and good looking, any recomendations?
thanks.

My usage would probably be best described as light to medium: few phone calls, some sms and mms, ebay, email, weather updates, some web browsing and some tunes (inc stream to DLNA devices), but no gaming at all. I don't use Seeder or Greenify.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Please ignore the mobile network signal bar being too short as it has never worked properly for me since CM9 (randomly stops logging data) - but as you can see the phone wasn't in aeroplane mode as it has signal in the status bar and the wifi has been permanently switched on.

I'm going to try this one.
It's not that I'm "lazy" to look for the links, I did look but I end up getting lost in the ROM descriptions since they get really technicall.
My next question would be "how the heck would I install a Kernel", a bit of Googling revealled a thread about it, I'll post it here in case someone else is reading this and looking for information.

My usage would probably be best described as light to medium: few phone calls, some sms and mms, ebay, email, weather updates, some web browsing and some tunes (inc stream to DLNA devices), but no gaming at all. I don't use Seeder or Greenify.

My next question would be "how the heck would I install a Kernel", a bit of Googling revealled a thread about it, I'll post it here in case someone else is reading this and looking for information.

about installing the kernel, just read the 1st page of each kernel thread :good:
Feedback
Hey,
I installed CM9 with the kernel like was suggested here. I decided to post some feedback and news about the rom.
So far it's been neat. I'm getting the performance and battery saving like I did when I had the stock rom, but I have the look and feel of the ICS.
here's a screenshot of the battery saving, it lasted the whole weekend... weekend partly spent discovering the wonder of Pudding Monsters, I've gotten more addicted to that game (in that weekend) more than I'm proud to admit.
In spite of that, the battery last for a good 2 days before crashing. This without any battery saving app or greater care.
(I haven't spent as much time online as I used to, that might've also helped a bit)
There is only one annoyance... two actually:
. (as expected) in the camera, the zoom doesn't work. (I was told cameras don't work that well in custom ROM's, as longs as it takes pictures as is I'm happy enough)
. There doesn't seem to be a usb support. Before, when I plugged the phone to the computer there was a popup allowing me to open some usb mode and allowing file transfer between external and internal sd cards. Now it simply turns on usb debugging.
While this works fine on Windows, the OSX doesn't recognize the device. Thus I cannot plug the android to my mac anymore.
Any ideas for the second part?
PS: Just noticed that my tablet also can't be seen on my mac. This means it's not a ROM problem. After searching the usb options I noticed the Samsung has a "mass storage" option which I think may solve my problems. But the same does not go for my tablet.
My tablet is a Sony S unrooted with stock ROM. It only allows usb connection through MTP or PTP modes, neither works with OSX for some reason.
as far as i tested, you can use liquidsmooth or the newest build pacman for sgw :good:

Which is fastest Optimus G E975 rom?

Hai There!
Currently im using CM 12 and Solid Kernel v1.6. At the moment im getting 31000 in Antutu, and 9000 in Quadrant (Artmod gave me 28000 in Antutu with Solid v1.6). But i`d like to know..is there rom & kernel that gives even better perfomance?
Wanted to give a shot to Jolla kernel, but it looks like it doesnt work with CM12, as it just gets stuck at Cyanogenmod loading forever (left it for 6+ mins and still at CM12 logo loading).
So yea..Is there anything that is even faster?Just wanna see how far this lil beast can go!
Thanks.
Better score in benchmak doesn't always mean faster/smoother working ROM
wow you really got 31k in antutu? my highest ever with my OG is 26k+ using ARTMOD and stock kernel. I don't think that will be healthy for your phone though, since overclocking both CPU,GPU and some other tweaks are not meant to be.
Yes, it was with CM12 nightlies and Solid Kernel v1.6 (Only good things heard bout this one). Will try to post screenie later, after i do the test again. Wanted to fully empty my internal storage, and accidentaly deleted EVERYTHING..
So far CM 12 is fastest & smoothest rom i`ve used. But it`s battery usage monitor confues me alot - google services eats most (20+%), and screen uses 5-10% according to it. Doubt if its true..Oh..and the camera sucks on CM12.

haha yep, i switched back to stock after trying out CM12 its so buggy as hell for now, and yes camera sucks lol and by the way how was the performance using solid kernel? ive been thinking about that kernel for a while.
Well, have to play around with it a bit more..It`s my second day with that kernel, and all i`ve been doing is just messing around with roms - cant really stop doing that when you have started..lol..Benchmarks show better score..thats for sure. But other than that... And be ''went back to stock'' u mean Artmod, or full stock?
About CM12..yeah it feels like ''beta'' (which it is...) but core features calls, messages, and browser, work just great. But cuz of camera i wont use it for long.

well that's really high dang. haha yeah that excitement I went full stock. ARTMOD still has some fixes to be done, i flashed the original KDZ file haha now my phone is really virgin stock lol. I ran antutu on it, i attached it below so you will have a reference of how the Stock performs :highfive: that's the highest i could get on stock. nearly same with artmod.

Well, did the same as you told me! Was able to get up to 18K now I had 24K on my stock KK ROM, my best was on CM10.2 which was 27K, any other guess? Other performance (Games like Real Racing 3) doesn't decrease, not even on recording screen while playing games

To OP who is getting 31k antutu: How much did you overclock to? I imagine the phone must get crazy hot while running antutu.

I'm over clocked to 1.7GHz. And no not "THAT HOT" but rises over 40° I over clocked by SOLID KERNEL. Any other way to achieve more clock rate?
Hit THANKS if I help, or you like my post!

It 's the highest score to look in lollipop, that governor did you use?
