I have a rooted E4GT running FL16.
To connect to a HD TV, all that is needed is a MHL to HDMI adapter and a male to male HDMI cable.
Does anyone have a preferable vender, store or link?
Thanks in advance,
Larry

Welcome to the club brother! I find that ebay has the most variety when searching for the adapter or cable. But if internet isnt an option then the HTC mhl adapter at radioshack is an excellent choice for its stability and build.
Have you tried using sixaxis controller to play games on your phone with a ps3 controller while connected to the tv? Vice City is awesome
Thanks Stirfry. I actually went to multiple Radio Shacks, Best Buys and various cell phone stores this morning. No local store had any MHL to HDMI adapters in stock, or even knew what I was talking about.
I did end up ordering several different manfactures adapters to test via Ebay and Amazon. Prices ranged from $5-$25. So i'll be fine. Was hoping an XDA member either had a store or said "this is the manf and model # recommended or stay away from....". I'll post some results for anyone else looking after I receive some in the mail.
Thanks again,
Larry

Be aware most roms, including TW based roms, will not include MHL compatibility. You're kind of stuck with stock roms if you want to keep that functionality.
This is the HDMI adapter I use.

This is the HDMI cord I use.

I also purchased this a bluetooth keyboard so I sit back and control my phone. The keyboard has a mini mouse pad.

I recieved this as a set of bluetooth headsets as a present.
http://www.amazon.com/Tribeca-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headphones-YD000-AHP03/dp/B009LAGG08
I use these items at work for quite some time, and never had a problem. My E4GT seems to handle the headset and keyboard at the same time flawlessly. I only use the headsets so I don't bother my co-workers when I watch videos on Youtube or Netflix.
Hope this helps.
edit *I've have ran this while rooted and unrooted with no problems.*

Finally bought the expensive mhl adapter for the s3 and after hooking up my phone to my samsung px2370 1080p monitor, I don't like what I'm seeing. The picture looks really fuzzy and reminds me of interlaced output. Plus my monitor is reporting a resolution of 1920x1079. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

Im thinking its because I'm rooted to be honest, it works by shutting off the device first then plugging everything in then turning it on and it's supposed to pick up from there but nothing happens. The same with my One S.

It might just be my pc monitor. I can't even get it to work with my computer via hdmi (dvi works though, as well as with my 360 and ps3). The adapter looks legit to me. I'll be trying it on a different tv and/monitor in a bit

I bought the new MHL adapter as soon as it was available from Samsung. Output from applications like Netflix is reduced quality, this is intentional by the Netflix app. If you play a HD movie, you will see the quality is very good.
My only problem was lag. It looked good, but it was the equivalent of playing a video game with a framerate of around 20 FPS, it made gaming impossible and movies frustrating. I was told it may be my MHL adapter, but I haven't gotten a new one yet.
Saying it's the adapter is the easy answer. I have one that works perfectly on almost any LCD TV I have tried, but on LCD monitors, I have issues usually. I have used it with an HDMI to DVI cable, and got the exact result you described. I think it has something to do with the monitor not recognizing the native output. I haven't used it on an HDMI monitor.
I can confirm it works quite well on almost all TV's.
Ok I think I know what the problem is now. Seems like the s3 only outputs tp 1080i, that explains the flickering and fuzziness on my Led monitor. Is there no mod or hack to at least make it output at 720p instead (since 1080p would probably be to demanding)? Why would samsung stick to just 1080i? Was it the same with previous phones like the s2?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Now that I'm on the puter it's gonna be easier to explain, I bought a T-Mobile MHL kit when
I got the HTC One S and rooted the device but for some reason it wouldn't work with it so
about a month after I had the One S I bought the GS3 and rooted it (still have both) and
tried it with this one and still nothing.
I was told by a few that it might not work on a rooted device but after doing the research it
seems that I'm the only one having this problem but I figured trying it on a different device
should show something, I'm at the point now that I'm sure it's the MHL kit and not a root
problem.
AFAIK only 1 cable/adapter exists that works with the s3 and its an official samsung product. Previous mhl adapters won't work due to a change in pin layout to the connector so if you bought one that isn't marked for the s3, the most likely isn't compatible and won't work. Even official s2 mhl adapters won't work

It figures, I should just restore the One S to stock or sell it but on another note I just posted a tutorial for anyone interested on how to use the GS3 and the PS3 as a media server, connections and settings if you have a PS3 already. In the T-mobile general section.

Not sure if many have heard of the appradio2 from pioneer but its a head unit/car stereo. Anyways you can hook the gs3 to the radio via the mhl cable and now with the arliberator app the appradio fully mirrors your gs3 with full touchscreen control.
Anyone interested in car audio should check it out truly an awesome setup and much easier and cheaper than mounting a tablet in your car

Just wish Pioneer put a little more effort into the audio portion of this thing.2 sets of 2V preouts is pretty damn weak for a $600 radio.I work at a shop that sold the first appradio and they are sitting on the shelves in the stock room.In over a year,Ive installed 2 of them. They sound like crap. Were not carrying the appradio2 because of how poorly the first one performed and sold. And whats this crap that you have to buy a special cable for android?Icrap cable is included.
It is a great idea,I mean really it is,but it just isnt ready at this point.Your better off with one of the AVIC units.

Sound wise the Avic may be better but its nowhere close to the appradio once you add in the arliberator app. Just a shame someone had to make a 3rd party app to make the appradio truly worthwhile. I mean with the app your radio screen directly mimmicks your phone with full touchscreen control.
The audio does not sound bad at all. You don't need to buy a special cable. Its just a HDMI cable. I have two amps in my car and its probably the best sound system I've ever had. The HDMI is all digital so the screen and audio has no signal loss.

Hey thanks for the info. We just bought a new car and are looking to replace the head unit to something like this. I wanted something with GPS. However you said your set up allows for full mirroring of the GS3. Does this include the Navigation app? have you tried it out? If it does work, I would definitely look to buy one of these units because they are much cheaper than others out there with gps etc.
Just ordered my Appradio2 to pair with my Galaxy Note II. I'm pretty excited for this :good: :highfive:
Lol I love my S3 and music. But would never drop that much money on a car stereo. I do have a custom system and it is Pioneer. But I just keep my iPod hooked up to it. Cheaper then $600

I don't get why every ones so into having a bunch of extra tech in their cars. I have a pioneer with blue tooth and an aux port. Keeps me happy.
But while we're on sound systems, I just dropped two Memphis M-class 10s and a 12 in my car today.
They sound beautiful paired with the six Rockford 6x9s
I'd rather put my money in my sound than in "appradios" that probably sound like junk.

Somebody mentioned that the head unit has 2 volt pre-outs. I wouldn't waste that much money on a unit with such poor prevoltage. Based on that I bet it doesn't even have a decent DAC. Not trying to be a pessimist or downer but anybody into car audio knows that 2v pre-outs cannot possibly output good sound. Even with a signal booster. Not to mention you can find head units with 4v and even 6v pre-outs cheaper than that. I guess it's still cool that it mimics your screen and all, but that's a lot to pay for just that feature.
Edit: An example to prove my point...
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20186_Dual-XML8100.html
This is the cheapest, bottom of the line head unit you can buy right now from sonix electronics. It's $36 yet it shares the same prevolt as the Pioneer mentioned in this thread.
Furthermore, here is a $139 head unit (the crazy thing is it's a pioneer too) that has 4v preouts....
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_42777_Pioneer-DEH-P7400HD.html
Why pioneer decided to put 2v pre-outs on the unit mentioned in op but double that in their bottom of the line unit just baffles me. Unacceptable from a sound quality standpoint imo.

an alternative would be to buy a DAC and a docking station and then connect the dock to the DAC via micro usb in the docking station, but that would result in not charging the phone, and dont know if it would work with usb host trough the docking station
a nice way to do it would be buying a wireless charging kit, a bluetooth reciever or a bluetooth speaker, then using tasker (i dont know if this can be done as i dont use tasker) to automaticly connect to the bluetooth reciever or speaker, then you have a VERY nice way of listening to you music while charging
sorry for my bad english, hope you get the point

To connect to a DAC, you need the USB-OTG cable. There are a few on eBay that do include a third connection on the cable, specifically for charging.
Thanks for the suggestions. Shall search around for the USB-OTG cable. New to all these things though so shall need to search around the Internet a bit in order not to blast anything up haha.

Hey guys.
I'm getting the Z1 in a couple of days, switching from my Alcatel OT995 (a tremendous little best-buy phone).
I'm getting acquainted with all the accessories and I spotted that there are MHL adapters out there that support CEC (meaning I can control the Z1 via a TV remote). I'm trying to avoid the official Sony one because of its price, so I scoured eBay a bit...
The typical usage scenario I am aiming at is connecting the Z1 to the HDTV and then watching movies through XBMC, while controlling playback via a remote (through the CEC protocol).
However, I am trying to confirm some eBay items that I found...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-M...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item2c731846ad
^^This one includes a little remote which supposedly allows controlling the Z1, it's $18.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
I also found this cheaper one ($9), but supposedly only for Samsung Galaxy. It looks like the exact same product for me, with the Samsung adapter included: http://www.ebay.com/itm/A-S0-Remote...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f2e3709b3
If anyone has actual first-hand experience with this, it might be of help to a lot of people who wouldn't mind using the Z1 as a media center

I buy MHL follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI6r7SEiaOk but not work for Z1
SO SAD!!!!!
I recently ordered a bunch of cables and stuff from amazon for my nexus devices because I was having trouble with my Slimport piece of crap junk... I don't have a Z1... I lost mine but... my girl has a Z1S from t-mobile...
With my Z1, i used a MHL 1.0 adapter that i gave her, she wanted a MHL to HDMI cable ( no adapter, and possibly 2.0) so in my amazon order, i went ahead and got this....
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUU6K5M/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
... it DID NOT WORK... so i returned it... and got this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESM3TTA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this, also, DID NOT WORK on the Z1s.... so , i kept trying... and i ordered this...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I5J6WVY/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this one WORKED PERFECT....
Now, I noticed it came with an extra cable to increase the length of the part that goes into the phone (mircroUSB)... I noticed those two other cables that did NOT work, had the longer microUSB connection... so im concluding that there are two diff types of MHL? im not sure..... but the SHORTER microUSB connector is the one that works..
So if anyone needs a MHL to HDMI straight connector, that blue one is the one. unfortunately, it is out of stock right now, but i can CONFIRM, it works perfect with the Z1s
any questions? PM me or post here.
I saw one of these cool looking "MHL hub" devices for sale on eBay for between 10 and 15 dollars and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with them on the L900 Note2. I ask because I know the domestic versions of these devices often have many features locked out or missing (FM radio, tv-out, etc.).
Also, for those people who have confirmed they work, does using it just as a card reader require that external power be connected? Does using the HDMi output feature require power be connected? Can HDMi output, the card reader, and the usb slot be used simultaneously or can they only be used one at a time? Lastly, will such a unit fit a Note2 with an otterbox defender?
Thanks.

Any updates on this?
I would guess no one has used it. What I can answer for you is that hdmi always requires power. I would think that everything would work at once (my hdmi dock hub does) like a normal usb hub. Now would it work with your case. That would depend on how much room you have when you connect usb.

Do you get to use USB mice/keyboards at the same time as the HDMi out feature?

Everything running at once hdmi, mouse, keyboard, and usb drive all at once. Kinda need at least a mouse (on official media hub anyways) cause the phones screen turns off. The digitizer still functions but kinda difficult with no display.
