Audio dock? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Hello everyone have any of you have any idea of a dock that has speakers?
Basically I want to charge my phone while having external speakers. Any good brand recommendations? Budget is around $100.
Don't care much about design but rather the audio quality.
Thanks in advance!

Soundfreaq Sound Kick. Its Bluetooth but has USB to charge your phone. It can even charge your phone when it isn't plugged in via its own rechargeable battery. Sound is terrific for a 99 dollar speaker. Its even well made.
Online or target of all places.

Yea man tough luck. Seems like a niche market, came from the Iphone and it seems that there are a lot of such alternatives on the Iphone and much less on the Samsung s3.

an alternative would be to buy a DAC and a docking station and then connect the dock to the DAC via micro usb in the docking station, but that would result in not charging the phone, and dont know if it would work with usb host trough the docking station
a nice way to do it would be buying a wireless charging kit, a bluetooth reciever or a bluetooth speaker, then using tasker (i dont know if this can be done as i dont use tasker) to automaticly connect to the bluetooth reciever or speaker, then you have a VERY nice way of listening to you music while charging
sorry for my bad english, hope you get the point

To connect to a DAC, you need the USB-OTG cable. There are a few on eBay that do include a third connection on the cable, specifically for charging.

Thanks for the suggestions. Shall search around for the USB-OTG cable. New to all these things though so shall need to search around the Internet a bit in order not to blast anything up haha.
Really helpful people here. Appreciate all of the replies given.

Universal Micro Usb Desktop dock

Anyone have one of these that they use with this phone that works with other ones?
I saw this one below, but I'm a bit skeptical that it has a fake 3.5 audio jack on it...
http://www.allputer.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1211
Thanks!
I don't see anything about a 3.5mm jack in the description of that dock. In fact, it looks very interesting, except that I don't think the built-in USB hub is powered, so it wouldn't supply much power.
I get tired of buying a new dock every time I get a new phone.

[Q] Connect Epic Touch to iPhone compatible car stereo?

I just got jvc car stereo http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JVC+-+5...back/4005163.p?id=1218447374174&skuId=4005163 from best buy.
It has usb port and says that I can play mp3,wma and few other formats from iphone.I tried pluging in my Epic and it doesnt recognize it.
My question is: Do anyone know if there is an app or some type of usb adaptor that I can use to play my music on iphone usb accessories?Or any other method?
All these devices are iphone compatible but we android users(majority) are left in the dust for now, although they starting to support android but cost double the price.
Try to put it in USB mode

Probably will work on my jvc,jvc and kenwood merged into one company so their stereos are almost identical. There is even jvc/kenwood app in the market that supposed to connect to kenwood receivers.
Im gonna try it tomorow and see if app and methods above work.
Most car stereos now come with an auxiliary port as well, you can play music from almost any device using an auxiliary cable.
WHat I'm looking for as a bluetooth-to-ipod-dock adaptor.
Sprint used to sell one on their website, but, I can't find anything about them anywhere. Everything takes a goddamned ipod dock. I want to get a new head unit for my truck but I refuse to pay the extra $150 for the bluetooth receiver when all I want is an am/fm radio with a blue-tooth input. screw wires.
Unless anyone knows a good $100-$150 head unit that comes with bluetooth and puts out 35-45w. Nothing fancy.

The Sony head unit I bought several months ago seems to fit that bill. You're checking Crutchfield.com right? That site is awesome for aftermarket car stereos. I think I paid $140 for the Sony XPLOD I bought with free shipping and the kit for my car included. I forget the watts, but it has Bluetooth and front USB and Aux ports. There's lots of other options around that price point from other manufactures as well.

I boycott Sony any chance I get, but, thanks for reminding me of Crutchfield. I haven't seen that name since I was a teenager and spent all of my money on my car stereo...for years, lol.
There are plenty of bluetooth options that at 14-20w, but, I think I still have an old MTX 25 watter around here that, when bridged down to 1ohm-stereo, will show those speakers who's boss.
Thanks again.
Ok so I got a Kenwood kdc-248u back about 6 months ago. At the time I was on T-mobile with my HD2 running a nice miui rom. I decided to plug my phone in to the usb port because guys like sticking things in things... Now it didn't give me track info, but it was playing what seemed like the files that were in my google music temp folder. Even lacking the track info (just showed a number) it was fantastic because I had my music on random while my phone was charging. The skip track and pause work too. I left T-mobile after the first time I was "capped" for using too much google music and at the slow speed nothing works. Hence coming to Sprint. BUT my Sammy no workie with stereo. Tried many methods including the above mentioned. I was waiting for the official release of ICS because I had read that google music and ICS are supposed to integrate better and offer usb support. But now I am running a FC14 rom and still no sign that my phone and stereo will speak the same language unless some the fine devs here decided to take up the challenge.. Cheers!!!

Sony car stereos are ****ty unless they changed in the last 3 years.I paid $90 for my jvc at bestbuy and bluetooth adapter for it costs $60(yeah thats alot),which brings it to $150 total. It got real nice sound quality,i have infinity's in the back and kenwood in the front plus I like the fact thst you can change butons and lcd colors.
I just put a Sony Mex-bt3000p in my wifes car and love the blue tooth/Pandora capabilities. Got it from crutchfield.

I use doubletwist player from the market. The player is free, and has add on stuff you can buy lile wifi sync.... But it has a setting to use as auto usb mode. I say give ot a shot. I don't have the right stereo, so maybe you can test it for me....

A possible alternative..?
I ran across a device called a Mimic while I was building a PC into my car that might be helpful. The Android version is still in development, but the idea is right on track.
As I understand it, any phone that can export video (may require micro-HDMI...) will be able to hook up to this and the touchscreen and car speakers will become the phone's display, control and sound output.
To keep the radio / CD function of the existing head unit, the screen will have to be mounted outside the dash or as a pop-out in the 2nd slot of a double-DIN dash.
Kinda pricey, to be sure, but it at least appears to be a step in the right direction...

Dock or USB to charge and play music in car

Unless Im missing something, is there not a way to plug the S3 into the USB port on the radio and charge it and play music right through the USB like an iphone? When I had my iphone I could just plug it right into my stereo and it would charge and play music. When I tried the AUX on the iphone it did not sound half as good as when using USB directly, so I assume the S3 is the same and want to use the USB if at all possible in a dock would be great. Of all the things they claim Samsung "copied" the iphone on, this is the one they should have. Its the only thing I miss or like better about the iphone than the S3 so far...
At the moment my plan B is to get a dock to charge it and then have to get something like a Samsung HS3000 as well, but even with Apt-x I cant see this being as clear and loud as using the USB
This forum moves WAYYY too fast...
Android will have this in Jelly Bean (4.1)... Android Open Accessory Protocol 2.0 supports audio out.
Alternatively, there is a specific Galaxy S3 feature: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754102 that works in car mode...
The OEM Infuse car dock will also do this too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669567
it will probably be possible awhile after jb realese
yup.. the infuse car dock does it

Ya the infuse dock doesnt use true usb connection, I dont think its possible to do this at all yet is the issue. I also dont like that I would have to take the case off the phone to use the dock so its looking more like I will have to get a dock that will fit with case on, use regular charger, then just use BT and deal with it...I hope JB will let you use the USB like the iphone at some point. But maybe the new apt-x is better than I know as Ive not used it.

the gs3 with the pioneer appradio 2 and ARLIberator app is AMAZING!!!

Not sure if many have heard of the appradio2 from pioneer but its a head unit/car stereo. Anyways you can hook the gs3 to the radio via the mhl cable and now with the arliberator app the appradio fully mirrors your gs3 with full touchscreen control.
Anyone interested in car audio should check it out truly an awesome setup and much easier and cheaper than mounting a tablet in your car

Just wish Pioneer put a little more effort into the audio portion of this thing.2 sets of 2V preouts is pretty damn weak for a $600 radio.I work at a shop that sold the first appradio and they are sitting on the shelves in the stock room.In over a year,Ive installed 2 of them. They sound like crap. Were not carrying the appradio2 because of how poorly the first one performed and sold. And whats this crap that you have to buy a special cable for android?Icrap cable is included.
It is a great idea,I mean really it is,but it just isnt ready at this point.Your better off with one of the AVIC units.

Sound wise the Avic may be better but its nowhere close to the appradio once you add in the arliberator app. Just a shame someone had to make a 3rd party app to make the appradio truly worthwhile. I mean with the app your radio screen directly mimmicks your phone with full touchscreen control.
The audio does not sound bad at all. You don't need to buy a special cable. Its just a HDMI cable. I have two amps in my car and its probably the best sound system I've ever had. The HDMI is all digital so the screen and audio has no signal loss.

Hey thanks for the info. We just bought a new car and are looking to replace the head unit to something like this. I wanted something with GPS. However you said your set up allows for full mirroring of the GS3. Does this include the Navigation app? have you tried it out? If it does work, I would definitely look to buy one of these units because they are much cheaper than others out there with gps etc.
Just ordered my Appradio2 to pair with my Galaxy Note II. I'm pretty excited for this :good: :highfive:
Lol I love my S3 and music. But would never drop that much money on a car stereo. I do have a custom system and it is Pioneer. But I just keep my iPod hooked up to it. Cheaper then $600

But while we're on sound systems, I just dropped two Memphis M-class 10s and a 12 in my car today.

Somebody mentioned that the head unit has 2 volt pre-outs. I wouldn't waste that much money on a unit with such poor prevoltage. Based on that I bet it doesn't even have a decent DAC. Not trying to be a pessimist or downer but anybody into car audio knows that 2v pre-outs cannot possibly output good sound. Even with a signal booster. Not to mention you can find head units with 4v and even 6v pre-outs cheaper than that. I guess it's still cool that it mimics your screen and all, but that's a lot to pay for just that feature.
Edit: An example to prove my point...
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_20186_Dual-XML8100.html
This is the cheapest, bottom of the line head unit you can buy right now from sonix electronics. It's $36 yet it shares the same prevolt as the Pioneer mentioned in this thread.
Furthermore, here is a $139 head unit (the crazy thing is it's a pioneer too) that has 4v preouts....
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_42777_Pioneer-DEH-P7400HD.html
Why pioneer decided to put 2v pre-outs on the unit mentioned in op but double that in their bottom of the line unit just baffles me. Unacceptable from a sound quality standpoint imo.

V-Moda M80's and Galaxy Nexus Compatibility?

Hello,
After doing some research I have decided on the V-Moda M80 headphones. They include two cables, one for android and one for iPhone, but through my research I have found that the cables may be incompatible with some devices.
So has anybody used the M80's with the Galaxy Nexus and what are your thoughts on them?
Did the cable/remote work as designed or did you have to reverse the cable and lose the remote functionality?
Thanks

Wow nobody owns the M80's I guess. Can anybody compare the headphone jack configuration on the Galaxy S2 vs.Galaxy Nexus?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I actually owned a pair of m-80's a couple of months ago and used them on my galaxy nexus just fine. I don't recall the iPod certified cable working at all, or maybe just the middle button, but the android single button cable works just fine. Just make sure you're getting those headphones if you really can tell the difference in them from some other lower priced ones. I decided they didn't warrant the price after I got them but some audiophiles can really tell a difference.

I have tried pairs that are very cheap and even very expensive and I could hear a difference compared to the headphones I'm using currently which I got free.
Thank you for confirming the cable works.

I thought they were really comfortable but the noise isolation and leakage was pretty bad, but that's kind of what you'd expect from a set of on-ear headphones.

I've browsed these forums a bit over the years, but I wanted to post (my first I think?) and say that I got these headphones today, and I have to reverse the cable with my Note 2.
Bit late now, will elaborate tomorrow.
So, the one button cable works pretty good for me plugged in the correct direction, just so long as I keep the 45 degree plug facing to the right while looking at my phone. If I turn the plug so it faces to the front or back, or anything in between that isn't to the right, my right headphone cuts out. The mic works, the button works, but I have to babysit the plug to keep it facing to the right.
What has your experience been? If I reverse the cable, the headphones work great no matter how I turn them. I am trying to research a cable that works, but so far I've had no luck.
My set only came with the android and iphone cable, no standard no-button one like I've read other have received. Maybe I should send V-Moda an email, I've heard they are quite accommodating.

That's interesting regarding the cable, maybe your cable is defective, I have spun the jack while connected to my phone with $5 headphones and the audio didn't cut out. I still haven't ordered the M80's, I have been trying to research a bit more as the m80's have poor isolation/comfort based on reviews I've read and I need good comfort and decent isolation, so the m80's might not be the right fit for my usage.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I don't think that the cable is defective as it were, I've read of others having the same problem. Reversing the cable seems to solve it, but then I lose the mic. I am going to try cleaning the headphone jack and emailing V-Moda. I have been having some problems with the Samsung headphones, twisting the plug can cut the right side in and out, but not predictably like the V-Modas. Cheapo sets don't exhibit this behavior, I am thinking it is something to do with the microphone.
Regarding comfort and isolation, I find both to be sufficient. Outside noises don't bother me, but I do tend to listen loudish. Prolonged use has fatigued my ears a bit, but that was while I was wearing my glasses, which I only do at work. I've heard that the ear pads break in over the first week or so, I'll be better equipped to comment in the near future.
They sound great. If you can get them from somewhere with a liberal return policy, I'd suggest giving them a try.

Does the audio work correctly when you hold down the button on the remote? Regarding the comfort, I have read its either very good or its bad depending on your head size/shape. The other alternative I'm considering is the Monster DNA On-ears they are supposedly very similar in sound to the m80's but with a hint more bass but the DNA are quite a bit more comfortable.

Holding down the button on the remote brings up the Google voice search. Kinda handy. But not if I can't get both headphones working consistently.
I'm going to a high end audio store here locally today...they sell lots of expensive headphones. Maybe one of them will have an idea. I don't mind buying new cables, I just want them to work.

I would contact v-moda, I have heard they are very generous and even offered free cables to people who had issues with the included cables.
