Like 30% of my battery for the third day in a row is Maps, yet I haven't opened maps once. I restart everyday and it happens again. I assume it has to be the gps, but i dont know of any app that is using it, either.
Touchdown uses about the same amount of battery, so I'm wondering if it has some gps feature running I don't know about? How do I figure out what the problem is?

try this, go to your app manager, locate your map(gps) etc.. and wipe cache.
If you turn off your location access i think it might help.
Using anything like Google now ?

See attached picture. I am experiencing unusually high battery drain. Could it be attributed to Google Maps causing over 60 wakeups in almost a 3 hour time period?
Since I posted OP 10 minutes ago it's now up to 83 wakes.
Probably more related to an app that is using maps. I had that problem before but can't remember which app it is. Are you using any check in type apps?
Sent from my AOKP'ed Samsung GS2 with Eugene's kernel
Not that I know of. I never check in with facebook. As for other check in apps like foursquare etc I don't even have any installed
Is it just acting up? Did you try force closing maps then see what happens or a reboot? Or is this an ongoing problem?
Sent from my AOKP'ed Samsung GS2 with Eugene's kernel
Had the phone for 2 days. So ongoing I wouldn't say. I tried wiping app data but not force closing.
Weather widget using location service via maps? Latitude? I was having the same issue so I just froze Maps. Don't have this issue any longer. I rarely use the maps/gps so I just unfreeze when I need to use it.
I use maps a lot so I can't disable that but I do use accuweather as well maybe I should turn off the automatic sync on that?

It did that to my battery too. I deleted the app and if I need to go on, I just use the internet.

Yup just use the browser the Facebook app is a battery killer

you can also try friendcaster. I've never used it myself but a lot of people say it runs better than facebook and uses less battery

It does work but I cant stand the interface. Why can't FB being the billion dollar company that it is, develop an app that works correctly?
I use the Facebook app and every once in a while I'll see it ducking up my battery and I just force stop it once you re open it seems not to take so much battery

I have the FB app and it didn't drain my battery. I'm still getting 3-4 hrs of screen time. Just set the refresh interval to never in the FB settings and also turn off the messenger location. Turn off notifications that you dont need either. Also, always press the back button when exiting apps, not the home button

Shut off GPS when your not using it, which is most of the time for me. Most apps ,like weather, can use the network for location based services. Unless your navigation, there's almost no need for GPS.

Will turning off GPS prevent the "NetworkLocationLocator" wakelock?
I would always find that maps had started it self and used battery.
Now I have used Rom Toolbox to stop it from auto starting and it is behaving it self.
Not to hijack the thread, but whenever someone attaches a thumbnail to a thread, all I see is "Attached Thumbnails" and there is image. Anyone know why?
Update
I use PhoneWeaver (totally underrated app!) and for poops and giggles, I added the GPS toggle in all of the profiles except car mode. Before I have always just left the GPS on and figured if nothing needed it, it wouldn't be used.
Now that the GPS is disabled, the maps process never pops in and battery life is once again back to normal.

My Galaxy S III had a really big battery drop. Why is Gallery, Chrome, and Polaris Viewer taking up a combined 10-20% of the battery? How do I fix it?
Thanks!
P.S. I am completely stock and unrooted.

Do you leave them on (don't close them after use)?
Try closing them in running apps if you already exit them properly.

I always close all the apps I've finished using it (by holding down the home button), and it seems now that those three are always open.

Like I mentioned, go in settings -> manage application -> running applications and manually stop them.
If they restart on their own, then something is triggering them (most likely a app or setting).
I went into the Settings, and Android is showing that while they are using up battery, they are not running. And also, over the past hour, Android OS is using up 18% and Android system is using up 16%. Aren't they supposed to use up like 4% each?

Simply being connected to Google Now can be a big battery drain. Definatly something to look into.
Do you have auto sync on? the more things you sync, the more battery drain you get.
OK. And the only app I have enabled to sync is the email client, which only syncs once an hour.

Mainly happens with Facebook (have locations disabled but still turns on the GPS and tries to get a lock)
Randomly the GPS will try to get a lock (or even get one) and stay on, even after the application that was using it is closed... Have tried using terminal to stop the location service and doesn't do anything...
Anyone found a workaround for this (besides the normal rebooting)... It started to eat the battery like crazy when it does this

I have this same problem. My solution was to stop using the Facebook app as it is the only one that causes me the problem.

I've had the same problem with the Facebook app, I suggest turning the GPS off from the pull down bar before entering the app all together
