My Galaxy S III had a really big battery drop. Why is Gallery, Chrome, and Polaris Viewer taking up a combined 10-20% of the battery? How do I fix it?
Thanks!
P.S. I am completely stock and unrooted.

Do you leave them on (don't close them after use)?
Try closing them in running apps if you already exit them properly.

I always close all the apps I've finished using it (by holding down the home button), and it seems now that those three are always open.

Like I mentioned, go in settings -> manage application -> running applications and manually stop them.
If they restart on their own, then something is triggering them (most likely a app or setting).
I went into the Settings, and Android is showing that while they are using up battery, they are not running. And also, over the past hour, Android OS is using up 18% and Android system is using up 16%. Aren't they supposed to use up like 4% each?

Simply being connected to Google Now can be a big battery drain. Definatly something to look into.
Do you have auto sync on? the more things you sync, the more battery drain you get.
OK. And the only app I have enabled to sync is the email client, which only syncs once an hour.

It does work but I cant stand the interface. Why can't FB being the billion dollar company that it is, develop an app that works correctly?

I have the FB app and it didn't drain my battery. I'm still getting 3-4 hrs of screen time. Just set the refresh interval to never in the FB settings and also turn off the messenger location. Turn off notifications that you dont need either. Also, always press the back button when exiting apps, not the home button

It does use a lot of battery.. I even turned the notifications off for it(checked many times) and it was still sending notifications... I un installed weeks ago.. Battery been a lot better
Recently I have been having something, I am not sure what drain lots of battery with leaving no trace that I can see for wakelocking... but it IS keeping my phone awake.
Also I don't even use maps and it eats up a ton of battery wth.
Set your wifi to turn off when your screen is off.

That should work too. The only other way to figure out what is taking all your battery is to scour Better battery stats for rogue wake locks and such. I un installed all my user apps and am reinstalling as I use them so that I don't have a ton of extra stuff running in the background eating all my battery.

I find LTE chews up battery. To turn it off should be settings/more settings/ mobile networks/ network mode. And then choose the one under LTE. Saves lots of battery. Also might want to disabled GPS. I looks like it is on according to pics.

Yes, use it now (Ulitmate) I have found nothing wrong personally. Mine's set for Data on with screen on, Data off screen off.. I don't have a schedule set or anything (i'm always off and on the phone anyway) does increase the battery life a bit.. Download, try it for a bit.. see what you think overall.
I did use it before, just the light version. it was indeed a battery extender. But now I am using ON(X).

Juice defender WILL help. I get about 24hrs to a charge. It simply disables data/location/wifi when not in use and can be customized to run different ways for different apps
-SlimBean...the bulimic's choice for the Galaxy III
Hope this helps. It's fully customizable and it does wonders. U can train it to learn your wifi and after a while, never touch the toggle again. Use it for games so they don't go online and pick up those annoying ads (if your unrooted). And u can schedule when the net comes on to get emails and so forth when your not touching you phone.

Been using Ultimate from the beginning and if set up correctly is the difference between night and day for battery life. It works very well with no problems whatsoever on my end.
+1 When setup properly it can save a lot of juice. Or turn data off when not needed it will save a little more than using JD. But I rather have JD running so things are seamless. For Streaming audio like Spotify I find setting for enable/screen off works the best.

Be honest and tell people you have an extended battery.
i got a small issue with JD ultimate:
i set it quite correctly i think, but then, it prevents datas from coming to my phone, even when they're enabled.
let me explain better:
i set it so datas are off when screen is off and on when screen is on.
so i turn my phone on, datas take smth like 5 to 10 seconds to enable, everything normal till here, then the small H or G appear meaning i'm connected through 3G, but even then, i'm still offline... i wait, and wait 5 mins, but still, the H or G is visible on top right of my screen but.. no data.
i disable juice defender, restart my phone, didn't solve.
then i uninstall it completely, restard my phone, and everything works fine again...
anyone could help me on this one?

Currently in training mode, but kind of doubtful of it's usefulness.
I feel like the cost of keeping google location on will offset the savings if not surpass it.

Not sure if this makes a difference but i am running houstonn 4.1.2
thanks for that bit of info, haha let me know if it updates again please
I am also on houston's JB build. It hasn't caused considerable battery life loss, but under BBS, it says that
ConsiaBattery (Battery Guru) has caused partial wakelocks a total of 6062 times for 1 hour and 42 minutes.
My phone has been unplugged for 14 hours 43 minutes. That's quite a bit of wakelock if you ask me

So ever since I got my phone, I was wondering why my battery is lacking with my brothers s4 and then it just came to me.
It's the FACEBOOK APPS! I checked the app and it. Uses 40 Mb's which I surprising for me but then I uninstalled both the Facebook app and messenger and my battery the next day improved by a lot (minimum, for me, 45 on screen minutes added to the battery)! I noticed the difference . I'm just sharing this information if you guys have a battery issue like me and have Facebook installed.
Also if you really love Facebook, just use the browser version and make a shortcut and out it on your home screen!
Hope this helped!
P. S: Facebook (when it was installed) did not show up in my battery usage, so I have no idea why it was running in the background

You may wanna try my modded facebook version. it removes the location feature from it. Which is the biggest battery hog. It constantly updates your location in the background. Taking a huge toll on your battery from trying to acquire a GPS lock plus the services themselves running in the background. I am planning on making one that has an "exit" option to fully shut everything down.
Thanks! Can you link me to your Facebook app? It sounds much better than the original one

Thats too much of a pain for me. In all honesty, facebook shouldnt even have an ongoing "tracking service" like it does. Its downright invasive. No wonder people can rape so easily, facebook, by default, is broadcasting their location every time the user posts a status.
But i have a weather app that gets my location ever hour and updates for weather alerts and such. So it would be very annoying if my GPS was off.
...
Unless you have location data turned off, you don't need GPS on for apps to aquire your location.
