I think the development section after selecting it should then have sections for EACH version rom. ie. Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS.
So that when you are looking at what is being developed you are not diluted with newer releases of older versions when you are really trying to find the best of a specific version.
This would allow it to be more organized.
+1 Would save a lot of confusion for noobs as well. Specific mods for specific version go in that section and so on and so forth .. yeah. Like it.
well there is only gingerbread and ICS, some mods are universal so you would have to post twice? and would you split up the theme and apps section too?
Good idea. Truth is though just more places for non readers to post in the wrong sections.

This idea is irrelevant because all people have to do is read. Even if the Title doesn't say the firmware version, the OP will 9 times out of 10.
The thought is good, but in reality.....nah bro
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why the hell not? Even if the
OP does contain the firmware version, it would stop a lot of the confusion for the noobs that don't read. As for people that DO read, it would be convenient to go in a section with, say, just ICS ROMs, to check out the latest goodies instead of having to look through all the GB ROMs and other things that aren't ICS related.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If people don't read And flash and destroy....it's their fault.. There are already "please read if you're new" posts or "if you're new to ICS" posts. If people are lazy and disregard proper guided precautions to help inform everybody before they start messing with expensive phones....then a bricked phone is what you'll get.
I don't cater to the weak and lazy.

Is this not the way it already is? If you can't be bothered to read a few lines of text maybe you shouldn't be flashing anything to your phone.
2.3.X = GB
4.0.X = ICS
Pretty difficult, i know.

I think most people commenting are missing the point. Of course its not that important to people like us who come here often and keep up with everything.
But if you imagine the noob who means well, and is just trying to find the information that he needs, this web board is immensely cluttered.
Honestly, thats why you have so many noobs posting dumb questions and asking the same things over and over again. Most people aren't trying to clutter the forums, but when they can't find what they want quickly they give up and just start their own thread which gets on everyones nerves.
i think more sub-headings and forum breakdowns would help a lot honestly. And at the very least give mods a fresh place to police and (hopefully) control post whoring.

Oh boo hoo those poor noobs we need to hand them step by steps and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to flash rooms! Rom flashing is a basic human right and every American should get it free of hassle!
I say the free account registration inhibits minorities like the computer illiterate and old people, we should abolish this account registration so everyone has the opportunity to post anything!
In fact those poor souls who brick their phones should get new ones for free, I mean the developers get donations so they should spread the wealth around it would be better for everyone!

I find it hard to believe clutter is the reason dumb threads are started.
Raise your hand if you have seen someone post a question or news item that has already been posted less than 5 threads down in the first page of general at the time of posting.
*raises hand*
Forums sections are well explained and disclosed, even if people rant and flame at noobs, it is still a noob friendly atmosphere here, the problem also is that devs and senior members still repeat themselves overe and over trying to help noobs and besides alot of members on xda are just too lazy to read, only screwing up people learn to either not to touch or mess with something they shouldn't have mess with in first place, nobody was born knowing all, yet nobody was born brainless, if people screw up after so many threads of guides and how to's lost in limbo around the forums, let them screw up, imbeciles only see the finger that is pointig the right direction.
If stickies, guides and bibles haven't helped, it is useless to clutter this forums with more subforums

thanks! yeah i was really looking for why it was used in the jedi rom and i saw people had asked in that thread and didnt see any answers, so i figured a new thread might get me somewhere. Unfortunately we'll always have dbags on the internet!
That was not intended to be funny or rude. Had the question been "is there a noticeable impact on performance one way or the other, and does gpu rendering do anything to help", that would have been a great question. A simple "what is", especially when one manages to find XDA, without having done some simple research that would have easily answered the question is something that will catch you flack on almost any forum.
I apologize if you found it rude, as it was assuredly less intended than some of the other responses.
Check out how many threads have topics as "wtf" or "help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". It helps everyone in the end if people ask better questions.

I don't know how many times I've seen this question but I've seen it one too many.
Theirs small things like make sure noise suppression is checked in your call settings or someone else stated that turning the volume down a bit fixes it. And or flashing another radio could cause a temp fix for it...but please read and or search before asking questions......

I've never had a call echo complaint on AOKP JB, and have been running it for months.
I hope you feel really good about yourself, starting this thread all over such a small issue.
The irony of this post is that now when people search up "call echo" on the search bar now, this is the first thread out of several dozens of other threads that shows up and mentions this issue.
What's worst is that the post doesn't solve anything at all, lol. If it really bothered you, you could have simply provided links in your post to the particular threads where those who are actually looking will know where to search for prior answers.
In that way it will save you time and others... additionally, your rant wouldn't be another waste of space in these forums and instead actual be of some use to people... just a thought.
In the second paragraph I clearly stated the little things that people have found to temporarily fix the issue

What kind of responses were you expecting from your post? Obviously since you emphasized greatly that people need to use the search bar more there is no need for us to add more to the minor information you already posted other than proper links... which then again contradicts using the search bar. As much as it is a nuisance, there are always going to be people on these forums who will ask old questions... don't let it be your problem, you're not obliged to answer the questions all the time. I understand your wanting to rant and I feel your frustration (Believe me when I say this. You should see some of the stuff that comes our way). Like FT said above, there is always going to be someone that asks the same question over and over and over, sometimes the same question in multiple threads. These people will never learn. But they are becoming more and more predominate in the forums lately.
We have 4.8m users and anywhere from 36-50k users online at a time. That type of userbase is fantastically hard to comprehend when it comes to things like this. Few want to learn anymore and many just come here to make their phone/tablet cool looking and could care less about smali hacks, de/compiling apks (what apk means for that matter), Android.policy.jars,...
Best answer I could give you now is to simply ignore those posts and move on to the next relevant post. If you want to answer, then by all means. Users should help each other when possible. But that doesn't mean spoonfeeding either.

Although I agree, your going tone other get zero response or (and more probable) catch flack about being demanding.
While typically, the android community development is free, everyone has became accustomed to the idea that eta's, change logs, working/not working lists are simply below them. Perhaps in their eyes it is. What I would like to remind everyone is this...time isn't limitless, and can be very valuable to some. If you don't like the community feedback (ie. Asking for these lists; small stuff) than maybe you should just (loosely) develop and/or cook ROMs for your own personal use. Xda is a community... A community built on knowledge, user base, and the good ol' boy system.
Just remember what we are here for. We all own a T989 and want to make our devices outlast even the newer models.

You're assuming that people will read and thus not need to ask. As someone who spent over a year developing for the vibrant I couldn't even count the times that I either directed someone's questions to the op that contained the answer or just ignored the questions all together. Now as just an onlooker who casually flashes I read the op and if I don't see the answer I want I watch the thread and let others ask/answer or do my own research like checking out gerrit or just move on and find something else.
When I was building ROMs I would spend hours at the computer and by the time I got around to posting my work I may have forgotten one or two things so change logs were usually only partial.
Getting the latest software on your phone while free does take a little effort on the part of the user.

Well the reason this is happening is because 4.2 just came out. People are curious to know what works and what doesn't. Devs haven't had enough time to check all of the glitches and bugs. Devs also rely on us for fixing bugs because they don't always have the time to do it.
As per the same questions being asked over and over, people simply don't know what the search button does.

Wow! Someone just makes a basic request and gives thanks to developers, and suddenly everyone is all over him and getting all defensive about developers feelings or something. How did it turn into this??
I kind of agreed with the request as far as how nice it might be to know pros and cons of each rom without reading through pages and pages of useless posts in the dev threads to find out each detail. It seems to me that most developers appreciate it when more people are using their rom (and obviously people appreciate the rom they're using) sooo...it might help people to understand what they're flashing and they might be more likely to flash a rom that they understand from a end-user point of view.
If developers don't want to add a list of what works and what doesn't to the OP, then they don't have to. If developers want to help flashers in their decision-making process (and likely boost the number of people using their rom), then adding such a list might help.
As far as I can tell, that's the end of the story.
So if the Op doesn't state what's working, then people have the right to clutter threads and annoy them, right? Its a win win situation, unless devs like being asked the same question a billion times. It could help keep the clutter to a minimum but its up to the devs. Not that I'm demanding a perfect op, but there are reasons as to why people ask and ask.
1. Too lazy to read.
2. Fast response wanted(see 1)
3. Op doesn't state what's working.
4. Search doesn't always help( at least for me on the xda app.)
5. People want a solution.

Actually edfunkycold has been extremely helpful. No I'm not trying to be confrontational. My apologizes in advance if that's the way it sounds. The threads that edfunkycold pointed you to have the information necessary to complete what you want to do. There is going to be quite a bit of reading, and research involved. Especially as this is your first time. The best advice I can give you is read, read, and read some more. If you have any questions search the thread that pertains to what you are trying to accomplish. If you still cannot find the answer post up in that thread. Someone is usually around to help, in almost every thread. BTW, yes I do know how hard it is to search for answers to questions sometimes . Even though I've been around for a while, I still use the search function quite a bit. Sometimes more than I'd like to admit.

No offense taken at all. But read what you wrote. You feel that by starting a new thread it helps new noobs find it. You don't think that adds to the already hundreds of threads which exist, many of them repeated questions on the same topic? Now that is going g to make it even more difficult for a new person to find the thread with the correct information.
Keep in mind the longer threads with more activity are usually the ones with all the right answers. Some reading and searching will be necessary. Within the thread itself you can search that specific thread to get the information you need and the results come back in order from newest post to oldest post.
I search every day, I search mostly for people that are looking for answers. Keep in mind I do it all from my phone mobile so I only use the app.
Food for thought.

Yes I understand that but thanks to people like u and the others I mentioned links are posted to those threads right on the pages we often look for. Even tho there are repeat questions not everyone has the same desire there fore when the links a provided we get helped as much as we can by this. This isn't a dispute or argument in anyway but a "noobs stand point of thinking" if that's what u wanna call it. Maybe this explains it or maybe it doesn't but it shows we have a high regard for this Site instead of going to another forum or Google searching our issues (which most leads back to here). This is a good Site and everyone is loved here especially by us noobs. I'm not sure if u seen it but a while ago I wrote a thank you post cause what u guys do here is awesome and if it wasn't for u guys my phone would be plain old vanilla my mind bored and a bunch of noobs lost hopelessly. Maybe if we can get some filters on here maybe for dates or key words or different updates there wouldn't be soo many repeat threads. U said yourself u search using your phone (as do I 99% of the time) how long does it take u to usually find a thread you've never seen on a topic u barely have any info about?

If your on the XDA app you can click on more in the upper right hand corner then the search button to search in general View attachment 2180302
If you want to search a specific thread on the xda app you need to be in the thread then click settings then click Web view to take you to a browser then use the search function View attachment 2180309
I would recommend the Tapatalk app which is much much better and you can search in general or within a specific thread right from the app. You can search by key words and also by specific username as well. View attachment 2180312View attachment 2180313

So I'm on bs sprint and still have a little over a year for my contract to be up so if all's well I will be flashing me and my gfs phones to another carrier and buying out of our cantract since we're basically paying 200 dollars for the same service. I'm wondering if anybody is willing to help me out with the flashing process (this will be my 1st time) by directing me to the best carrier to flash to how toos and so fourth. I'm currently rooted and my gf isn't but I can have that done in minutes when it's time. I'm hoping to go to virgin boost or cricket if anyone knows anything about flashing to any of these carriers. Can online help? Please and thanks

If you go Boost or Virgin you will need a donor phone,If you go Cricket you will not as they allow flashed phones on their system.Crickets service is OK but with a flashed phone you will always be 3G no 4G. The S3 is a fairly easy phone to flash you can do it with QPST. Or since you are in louisville the corporate stores can flash it for you pretty cheap.

Yes it's about 50 to 100 dollars tho I think. But I'd rather learn it myself and hustle their customers instead of them hustling me lol. I'd be fine with 3g that's all I get with sprint anyway. Can u explain the qpst thing? I've seen it b4 but don't quite understand it

Use this guide only instead of using DFS use QPST http://www.cricketusers.com/cdma-sa...galaxy-s3-cricket-talk-text-mms-internet.html you could use DFS as well I just prefer QPST and a note if you use QPST write two profiles enable both of them and just make one active seems to work better that way.
