Smoothness

Hey guys
I just got my Nexus yesturday and previously I had the Galaxy S2 and I was expecting the Nexus to be AT LEAST as smooth but its far from it. I only changed the kernel on my previous phone and its a lot smoother when scrolling web pages Facebook twitter etc... than the Nexus.
Has anyone noticed his? Everybody keeps saying how smooth and fluid it is but even the launcher I find lags in its transitions.
Is my phone the problem or what? Tonight I'm going to install a kernel a maybe a diffrent rom to see if it improves but so far I'm really not impressed.
Normal or not?

From what I've found I think 4.0.1 is the culprit of the problem.

It is and has been talked about many times already. Thats why I posted what I did previously. Not trying to be an arse but jeez...use the search function for crying out loud. All of these "I thought the gnex should be" threads are getting old.

I tried searching and looked thru the first 3 pages didn't find anything. I wasn't sure either of what to type in for the search. I tried speed smoothness and nothing came out.

Yea u need to root and get 4.0.3 installed, smooth as butter, and by the way I'm a s2 owner also

Well... In some cases the Nexus S is smoother.. actually it's smoother in all cases except for 1080p videos and some web browsing.
I expect it to improve with time though.
Same thing happened to the nexus s right after it was released.

4.0.3 stock doesn't exist. You can only get a 4.0.3 ROM for the time being.

Try swapping in the exynos processor.
That should do the trick.

Ill try with a new rom and kernel tonight and if it doest help, looks like my GN will be up for sale.
I happen to like my devices with an eye candy smooth UI.

WOW, really? You are going to ditch on one of the best overall devices on the market because of a slight hitch? By all accounts 4.0.3 takes care of it anyway. No phone is flawless but this one will be supported by Google and get updates for at least 18 months. But ya, loose the phone with the best screen on the market and the latest OS... ;-) spoiled

On many apps.....the slowdowns may be attributed to ICS incompatibility. More specifically, inability to utilize the hardware acceleration the GN pocesses. Go to settings, then Dev tools and turn on Force GPU Rendering. That should help with many incompatible apps that are running poorly. At least until the app is optimized for ICS and its capabilities.

You're messing with my zen thing, man !

When I pay a cellphone 600$+, and expect the "best" Android phone out there, I want it to AT LEAST be smooth and look good. Because what's that "best screen on the market" for?! To have a peak of all that eye candy. Now, part of eye candy for me is the smoothness of the UI.
Now that it doesn't bother you guys, that's fine, but it does bother me!
I'm not even talking about the cheap built quality, no Gorilla Glass, poor battery life etc...
I was expecting a lot more coming from Google and especially for the amount of money they want for cellphones nowadays.

Even after we told you the problem and how to fix it, you're still complaining.
Here's what you do (hopefully you read this part):
1. Return the Gnex
2. Use the $600 to buy yourself a white and a black 4S

[ROM][Blended] GB Rocket - GS2ET - Abridged version

Hi fellow XDAers,
It have been picking the best of both working Droid roms that has come down lately from Sprint to get phone in working order.. Instead of working from ICS backwards, I've worked GB forwards on the main parts... Forgive the choppy sentences... Not enough coffee yet lol
1. Odin'd back to EL29 OTA proper and rooted. Which rebooted.
2. Odin'd the FF18 modem. Rebooted.
3. Re installed a few utilities - ghost commander, quick reboot, Ti (to pull zipped apk's of the better parts of ff18 and email them to my laptop. whet I plan to integrate them. Also planning to do the same once I get the GB portion s downloaded)
4. Integrate into new ICS or JB stock ota
So far got 1 & 2 completed. Running to the hospital for a bit to visit my mom and then have to do some house work (a woman's work is never done.... I hate cleaning! lol)
Then back to my geekdom (for world domination (j/k))
And see if I can make headway on next items..

Yea, GB true ota from sprint rooted. Keeping the true «approved» so when they do get their act together and come out with a stable version that it won't fubar my phone like it did before.

Not so much a ROM but more a back-working of ICS to see where its breaking down. Consider it a "Bandaid" to transitional development towards ICS.

@ rocket. Thanks for the hard work. I try every room out there and tweaks and rarely comment but this people taking trash here should stay away. Once your work is available if they don't like it then just move asking, I never talk trash on their treads even when some roms out there should only be themes. Your project is actual development and not just changing colors. Really hoping to see this working soon.

No, i'm not releasing it as my own ROM... That would be illegal, now wouldn't it... Please read the entire thread. I am reverse envineering it to make it work with what was stable in GB EL29. And thought I would share to be kind to the other SSGS2ET owners who just got screwed by sprints preemptive release of ICS 4.0.4.
If a Mod want to change the title and remove the word ROM that's fine by me.
I'm just trying to give a hand.

Thank you!! See there is a voltage issue that keeps turning off 4G when on wifi... There's also a runaway program that i'm still trying to find and change the timing on so it doesn't use up the battery and there is also something that prevents reattachment to Ti for one thing and that its goggles fault for changing the key with every install... Most apps can handle it but there are slot that don't recognize the phone and creates a problem especially if you've paid for it... its the guts basically that is causing the problem sort of like crossed wires throwing voltage.
Hope this helps, and when I get a chance, I will write a proper dissertation for those that don't unbend and insist on flaming me.
PS learning Swype is worse than that pda stuff from micro shaft I mean soft lol

This argument should really be handled with PM's, not in somebody else's thread. I try my best not to get in the middle of things, but this is getting ridiculous. If you don't agree that it's development then report the thread and let the mods decide, don't attack the OP's spelling and time with XDA.
My Wicked Sensations rom is one of the roms that people are referring to as more of a theme and not development and I agree with them. But every phone section has themed roms just like this section. I don't consider myself a developer, and I have stated that on many occasions. I just try to share something that I like with others. But I do respect everyone else's work and don't insult it. If I don't like it, I move on.
So please respect somebody else's thread and don't trash it up this way.

I've cleaned this thread. However, it will remain closed for now. "Placeholder" threads are not allowed. As you probably seen why. Once a download link is provided and verified, then it will be opened.

LOL i was wondering why it was working so well when i was underclocked to 1050 and only using two cores .

I am made up. Bak on to the frame rate though, its nit the completely smooth frame rate that we all desire. But it really is a great improvement and there really cant be any complaints.

Spot on. I allready asked them to on twitter. I gave tgem a big thanks for the update and kindly asked for a nova 3 fix. They should fix there games before thinking about releasing new ones. Or they will end up with a line of great games that dont work on high end devices.

Does it still require an internet connection to play?

There's an update for NOVA 3 in the play store, just released. Not sure if it's an upgrade for N7, I cannot download at the moment to try it out.

Nova 3 now works like a dream on my N7
Asphalt on the other hand even after the update the controls could do with being a bit better imo, using my sixaxis sometimes the car just goes all the way to one side.

Download stops as soon as you lock the device. they don't really expect me to keep the screen on while downloading 1.6gb do they

Update won't load
Since the update for asphalt 7 my game wont load anymore. If uninstall re install it works but I have to start over if I restore my saved data with tb i just get suck on the orange car i was stuck there for three hours yesterday until i gave up uninstalled re downloaded and did the same thing over again. Any body having this issue?

Nothing changed still laggy. When will they use all that money they have to develop games properly. To get asphalt working the way it is now, they turned certian graphics off. Like glare and reflections off cars. I looked in deviceconfig.xml and tegra still does not have its own place. So our device still falls under medium class devices, why is that? But yet the galaxy s3 has its own deicated place with max graphics. Screw gameloft and there crappy ways of developing

no problem like that here. do you have your wifi set to always be active with the screen off in the advanced wifi settings? heres a screenshot from my galaxy nexus..

maybe its an issue on your end, rom or kernel maybe. runs lag free on my n7 even before tge update. using pure aosp and trinity here.

It mainly happens on multiplayer. Try creating a local wifi match with just yourself, put the map to last stand and have a run round. Its quite bad.

Well i fixed the bad reflections etc i will upload my device config.xml.
All i have done is changed our device name catagory with nother thst has better graphics.
Heres what you have to do. Copy youre aphalt 7 obb file from....sd card/android/obb/ com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM/ then copy main.101.com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA7HM.obb to youre computer.
Now with 7 zip open that file. Now go o dta/deviceconfig and delete deviceconfig.xml and then drag and drop the one i have uploaded over. It will give you a message, just click ok. Wait until its finished.
Now delete the old .obb file off youre device and copy the new one over, start the game. It will say it needs to download 1mb of data. Normaly this will reset everything we just done BUT it does not.
Now enjoy.

Debloated AOKP sounds rad and TBH I think a lot of people would be fine with just that, but the improved data speeds claim seems sketchy.

using net.tcp.buffersize and ro.ril tweaks. there found in our build.prop. want a copy and paste of them?

Let me start off by saying this. Anyone who has been following my merged builds knows I have never ever claimed to be a developer. I even straight out said that in the aokp nightly thread. We do the best we can as we learn. As we learn we will get to do more things. This is a learning experience. These are pretty much builds that I use for myself and I decided to share. We appreciate all the hard work that is done behind closed doors from AOKP. They do some amazing things with code. We try to improve on the build by getting rid of some of the apks and doing init.d and build.prop tweaks. I would eventually like to add aroma to this so that people can choose what they want installed and what they want to leave out. So do NOT be mistaken about what we do. I have never let anyone believe I was a developer. EVER.

Hmm ok. These build.prop edits have been around forever and are generally considered placebo but I suppose they can't hurt.

yea i was using them back in the droid 3 days. i dont want to false advertise though, im going to remove that comment,

Yeah that may be best. They definitely don't improve signal (really only radios can and that's negligible) and only may improve speed. Don't want to taint the op with false claims.

when i was using it i got 4g in a spot where i originally only got 1 bar of 3g. that may have been other circumstances, but your a dev (like apoph said i in no way claim to be a dev) so you know more than i do lol. i took it down from OP, but kept in the build.prop cause hey what the hll, it cant hurt lol

I just want to point out that how many tweaks have people claimed were placebo? Linaro, entropy mod, build.prop tweaks. There hasnt been one mod out there (except maybe zeppelinrox's mod) that someone hasnt claimed its placebo. So in the long run of things Im not to worried about it. If I leave the tweak in there maybe I will put supposed to increase signal.

Fyi, I'm definitely not a dev. A well read android fanatic, yes, but not a dev. I agree that they typically don't hurt anything though. These arguments (not saying we are arguing) have been had so many times already so we'll just move on now. Good luck with your project.

Wicked has its own easter egg like that (many of people have copied it by now though) in settings select the more tab then select about device, then rapidly tap the android version untill the jellybean pops up, then long press the jellybean and wicked logos float around the screen and they can be moved around by touching the screen

I'm aware of that easter egg but this guy is talking about something else; dial 123456789 and it plays music.

(Not directed to OP) sounds like another troll.

I had my friend try it on his Galaxy SII (he's running CM10.1 if that happens to matter) and it totally worked. Apparently it works for some and not for others... I wonder why that's so?
Also:
With WiFi calling enabled, I get "The subscriber you have dialed is not in service... Message IL95O56"
With WiFi calling disabled, I get "Your call cannot be completed as dialed... Message NC26951"
I only get EDGE service where I live. I wonder if I would get anything different on 3G/4G? I'll have to try at work tomorrow.

The dialer 123456789 trick worked for me on wicked v3.

Wow other people got this too lol cool , OK so I'm not trying to troll anyone. I found this out while trying to just go on the web browser I had no 4g and I know by dialing any number I usually dial 611 , it resets the data and my 4g comes back. Now what made me dial 123456789? No clue lol I was board and I just dialed it then the music came on. Thought all phones did this so I tried my girlfriends phone and nothing I tried her sisters phone nothing. So I made this video to see if anyone knew about this.
I tried these phones and this is what made me think it was T-Mobile that did this but now its confirmed that its not.
Samsung galaxy s4 T-Mobile - worked
Galaxy s4 sprint - didn't work
Galaxy note 2 T-Mobile - worked
Galaxy reverb virgin mobile - didn't work
Galaxy s2 T-Mobile -worked
These were the results. Anyone know why this happens? I called while on off WiFi and on WiFi also while on 4g and it happens while I'm on any of these.

That's what the video link is. I just talk a little demonstrating what a Easter egg is first for anyone who didn't know then I show what happens and what song comes on also I found the name and persons who sings it I have all the information in the description of the video.

Confirmed working. Although it won't work via wifi calling and I was on 4g when it worked.
By the way that's an old dance hall reggae song (originally from the 70s?).... But this version is from my youth! I believe it's Dawn Penn and Bounty Killah summer of 94. Wow I was only 19 then lol!
Big ups to the OP for finding this.... I missed that song and all the dance hall reggae from the 90s! The 90s produced some of the best rap music as well. Peace!

Tried it on 4G here at work and it still doesn't work. I had my coworker try on her SII and it did not work for her either. (But it did work for a friend in NY/NJ on his SII) I'm thinking this might be tower-specific. I've heard that engineers sometimes coded in music that they could dial a secret number and listen to while working on the towers. No idea if this is related though.
