[Q] Nexus-quality ROM available? - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hi everyone,
I bought a Captivate Glide for my wife and updated it to stock ICS via Kies. So far, I can't stand everything Samsung has done to the UI, nor any of the preinstalled AT&T apps.
I've been researching ROMs, and while there are a few that people have recommended as being stable, they all seem to have a bunch of extra stuff added to them in addition to removing bloatware, etc.
Is there anything available that could get me close to stock 4.x Android (E.g. what is available for Nexus devices) on the Captivate Glide? Or is that just not possible with a branded device?
Thanks,
Cory

The closest we have to stock but has pure vanilla ui would be the cm 10.1 or cm10. Can't really beat it either. Even though I prefer aokp features and what not. Which are added into rootbox and liquid smooth etc etc.

Literom would be good. But its still touchwiz which I am assuming that's what he does not like about stock. Even though literom has less of touchwiz look.

I rooted and removed/froze apps I didn't care for, with ROM Toolbox Pro. Pretty much achieved the same purpose.

Yeah, definitely want to get rid of Touchwiz. Sounds like CyanogenMod is the way to go.

Oh Yeah!!! Thanks for the info! JUst upgraded to CM9 And it is working!!!
Which one have you used, mate? And have you come across problems (battery charging)?
And... Can you explain to me why is ICS such a huge hit? I kinda don't get it... Is it that much better looking than GB? Anything else, anything more?

I'm using the ICS Rom for defy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353003
So far i didn't came into any problem. The battery is working fine, charge up to 100%. Except for the Microphone(for apps) and Camera.
ICS is the latest android version, Which I Think only Nexus S2 has it. (correct me if I'm wrong). In terms of looks, It is AMAZING! User interface is also very good. In my opinion, my phone now runs faster than my stock android 2.3.6 as i now have more free RAM.

I guess I really have to check it out Thanks for the reply!
i think you meant galaxy nexus but afaik the nexus s has it too. anyways, the ics is a significant milestone in android history, kinda like android 2.0. redesigned UI (with the beautiful holo theme), a bunch of new features. for example: native hardware accelerated UI (the gpu renders the effects and animations, and this makes them much smoother), native multi-core cpu support, and loads of other stuff. of course, with our locked bootloader, we only have some of these features, since were stuck on froyo/gb kernel. but its definitely worth a try, even in this unstable/alpha version

Best custom rom? with tweaks and mods?

I just traded my samsung skyrocket for the nitro
so far, i'm loving it. screen is awesome, But my skyrocket had ICS which is really smooth
The nitro is rather chunky in apps and launcher.
So which rom do you guys recommend?
Andasa's Nitrogen ROM. Or hono cm9 throttle v6. Both rock.

The only one I've tried so far is the CM9 RC1 and I love it.
So far I've used every rom available for our phone, including the original non-cwm flashable ICS leak which I had to debrick to get to another rom. I would say the best so far Ho!No!'s Full Throttle v6 (fast and awesome) and the stock ICS leak (not as fast, still awesome, very stable). I like being able to Oc my phone but find myself missing several features from the leak when I'm on FT....

You got the link for Ho!No!'s Full Throttle v6 ?
AOKP milestone 6 is awesome. My new favorite. I think it was just posted yesterday, I'm getting great battery and performance with it.

The link for V6 is on page 8 of the Full Throttle thread in the development section. Make sure to wipe data/factory reset, cache, and dalvik cache before AND after flashing in CWM. Dunno if all of it is completely necessary but it generally makes things much smoother. You'll also need to flash gapps in order to get the play store, YouTube, etc. It can be downloaded via Rom manager or found via Google search, just use the newest one available.

[Q] Differences between Touchwiz, CM10, and stock Jelly Bean

I am a bit new to Android and the GS3. But honestly I am already sick and tired of waiting for Jelly Bean as well as some of the problems of Touchwiz. So I think CM10 is the next thing for me. But I am unsure of the differencr between Touchwiz and CM10. For example I love the quick settings panel, the brilliang camera app and settings, Wi-Fi direct sharing (sbeam) , as well as the smart dialer and decent task manager. I just want to make sure everything will be better.
it's your call. i'd say you should try it out, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to stock touchwiz. just remember to read the op and the last few pages of the thread to make sure there aren't any unwanted problems to deal with. and of course, backup your current rom.

Stock Jelly Bean has been leaked. This will give you all the Jelly Bean goodness without resorting to a custom ROM.
You could also install the touchwiz launcher on CM10 if you like the TouchWiz UI. (I don't)
You can always flash back to stock ICS if you don't like where you end up. Just read the original post and make sure you understand what you're doing so you don't end up with a brick.

So if I tried it and didn't like it, I could just go back to normal and get updates OTA and everything.
Not all S3 are identical. The radio interface are slightly different, region wise. So yes , you can download a Samsung stock ROM off the Internet, it will not be exactly the same. Call and battery performance will be affected slightly.
You can use a backup to restore, it is the closest you can get to original, but rooted.
That it's the complete picture.

Things I like about touchwiz.
Movable home screens.
Little red flags on home screen icon showing unread status.
Social hub for Twitter and Facebook.
A working music player
Swipe right to call, left to SMS
Task manager, less of an issue in ICS and later.
Good alarm app
Best battery performance without tweaking.

yes, but not without some work. you'd need to either restore your backup and unroot, and remove the custom recovery or odin back to stock.

Yeah, the camera is brilliant.
Then I recommend Drew Garen Serenity rom! Its Touchwiz JB, its a GNote2 port, works great if you want the same TW features and more! (Gnote stuff), just use a launcher. I'm using tasks AOKP rom myself and its awesome

I've been stuck with AOSP. I love the TW/Samsung features, just not the interface. Coming from a Nexus, I just got comfortable with minimal. Slimbean, Aokp and liquid smooth are great base ROMs that are light.

The whole thing with that is I don't particularly care for Touchwiz. It kinda ugly and heavy with useless stuff. I just don't want to lose useful features.

yea im in the same position you are, i still change back and fourth because of features on TW that i miss and need often.
I am considering just flashing and trying it out and flashing back if I don't like it. I honestly don't mind Touchwiz, but I feel like if I give in and and wait, then I will just keep falling further behind. Perhaps Touchwiz is better now, but it certainly won't be in January
Touch wiz has too much overlay IMO. Liquid smooth is one of the best AOKP ROMs I've tried. But you will be missing out on Sbeam and everything Samsung related of course. But the sheer speed of aokp is a good enough trade off for me to lose just the neat camera and svoice.
I am using AOKP from Task and ktoonez, I love it but really miss smart stay and allshare cast to the point where I'll probably go back to TW JB once ATT actually releases it. Is there a JB ROM that includes those?
Hey guys,
Is there anyway to get the TouchWiz S3 camera features with one of the custom roms or just stick to a stock?
My brother loves the AOKP but he is insistent on having those default camera features/effects that came with the phone.

PAC. HAS. Certain.things from.cm10 so cm10 all the way... my 2 cents

Ok...
I feel so old, still using a stock Gingerbread Rom :crying:
booth have battery drain issues i use stock ICS rooted, deodexed and zipaligned by Dman: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902, twlauncher works slow but you can repleced with nova or apex launcher
Still on AT&T stock ICS
I am still on AT&T's non-rooted stock ICS so take this as my opinion only. I've been reading up on CM 10.1 and I will be giving it a go when I get my phone rooted.
Tech927
As far as a daily driver cm10 works.perfectly fine.. stock I had worse drain with battery from all the bloat of ATT and its super nice on.cm10.. and all the lil added features like the song changed by holding up or down on the volume knob

[Q] is there any good AOSP ROM fro N7100 ?

i need an AOSP rom for my n7100 and i can't choose one
i need stable system and battery life saver ROM
Pretty much, all of the 4.2.2 based roms are good. Personally, I use either ProBam or Carbon. Anything that is 4.3 is still in alpha stages and are unstable

For battery combined with no bugs, stability and speed I recommend thors rom, google tegraowners.net it's not on XDA. Carbonrom on here is a great rom too, I'd also combine it with thor's kernel.
Then last but not least, SlimBean rom! It's my current daily and battery with included kernel is very decent and it's the current AOSP 4.3 rom with the least bugs imo. If you really can't live with any bugs go for the 4.2.2 version.
Only bugs I have in SlimBean beta2 4.3 is graphic glitches in stock browser and gmail.. But it's absolutely doable, besides that it's ultrafast and the customisation options are sweet
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Probam is excellent..it has various features and is updated frequently (recently 4.3 was release)..I personally used it for 3 weeks and found it working smooth and lag free
Then comes resurrection and illusion rom..I haven't tried them but they were the 'rom of the week' in note2root site by zedomax
Sent from my AweSoMe ☆♥Note2♥☆
Well although its TW Alliance is good. It looks exactly like a AOSP Rom anf it even has the CRT effect but it keeps the S apps
