LTE in Grand Rapids, MI - Sprint LG Optimus G

Just wanted to let you guys know i was getting LTE on Leonard by the corner of Seward and Leonard, all the way up to Target/Khol's on Alpine! Works great indoors and out, in Grand Rapids, MI (i have also heard of people getting it in Byron Center)

And here I am, stuck in Ann Arbor. Oh well.

Nice! Still waiting for sprint to turn on lte in Winston Salem.

And it makes the unlimited data on Sprint allllll worth it =] it's amazing, i get it on my couch now! I still use Wifi for the sake of battery life and better consistency though!

Congratulations to my northern brethren. It's coming on down in Battle Creek too.
Sent from my toilet.

There is a small and I'm mean SMALL areas in Flint, MI where 4G pops on for me, I went to the Sprint store right by that area and the rep told me that they are installing for the area but are not announcing it since it isn't supposed to be live yet till later this year, but that it was working in some areas....

A friend that lives in Ann Arbor says they're working on the towers right now and that's why you when u stream music it cuts out, they want 4g up by spring apparently he heard through his contact at Sprint which was just a guy at a Sprint store.
Assimilated using the interface that interacts with the advanced internet.

A friend of mine that works for BestBuy mobile was told by his Sprint rep that their goal was to have most of the larger cities along the 94 corridor up by the end of q1. I would think that A2 falls in that category.

Any Michiganders reporting LTE in the Kalamazoo area? I'm still on the OG Epic with Wimax, but trying to get a feel if maybe some tower work is going on over here for LTE.

I haven't even seen Winston Salem on the list of cities currently in the upgrade process but the sprint store people say it is coming in March. I don't have a lot of faith in that though.

Good news! Even though there are like three square feet on u of m's campus that aren't covered by wifi, I'm kind of depending on 4g+wifi tether to satisfy all my off campus apartment Internet needs lol. Rent around here is obscene.

Any word on midtown Detroit?

Oh man LTE in GR? Any idea if Holland is going to be coming up soon?

Not yet, but my source told me it was supposed to come on around the same time as Battle Creek. So far there is only 1 tower up here, so I think it's just in the testing phase right now.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah, they are testing it now, to be officially "launched" they need 2/3 of the city covered, so when they actually do launch Grand Rapids, it'll be a lot more than just Alpine, and at this point, they could turn it off any day since it's not official

I too have picked up a LTE tower in Flint, and between Brighton & Howell. Slowly but surely!

Recently where I work, we had a meeting with Sprint network engineers and corporate Sprint sales people and I asked them when we should expect LTE to be in our area (West Texas more specifically Abilene, TX)
The engineer said that we should get LTE here in late 2013, third or fourth quarter
In translation to me, that means early to mid 2014! HAHA
I can't wait, I gave up a 4G phone to hop to the S III with LTE radio to be ready for it

Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach tower upgrades.

Not really sure if this should go here but I'm getting a Galaxy SIII soon. Today I received a "no CDMA network could be reached" message on my Moto Photon so I call my buddy that works at Sprint and he confirmed that tower upgrades are live in our area and we will probably have a rough time of it until complete.
I'm pretty excited about this and can't wait till I have the SIII in my hands. Stupid WiMax lol.

What to do...

I just realized that I most likely will NEVER get LTE where I live, I don't even have 4G. So, what is the point of waiting to buy an LTE capable phone if it's never coming to me anyway? They can still use 3G right? It's kind of frustrating knowing that I won't be getting it in my area, and if I do, it will be years from now, I think that's kind of bull****!!!

Switch carriers bro. No sense paying good money for high-end service that isn't available.
For market penetration, as previously mentioned VZW or possibly AT&T would be your best bet.
There plans, and phones suck though! I'm used to unlimited data I don't think I could handle that. Do you think if I said something to sprint there might be some small chance they do something?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Hmm.. I just checked some maps and it seems Lebanon doesn't have any actual Sprint towers. Your city is right next to some towers that are getting NV upgrades though but none in the actual city.
It might be a Shentel area, but I'm not certain. Shentel is a subsidiary / partner of sprint and is also doing "NV" roll-out in coordination with sprint.
Actually I do think you're in a shentel market as Lebanon is not far from Harrisburg which IS a shentel market. In that case, considering there's no Sprint towers in that entire region of Harrisburg and extending to Lebanon... you will probably get LTE and NV upgrades from Shentel.

You do have something there. Your area is part of Shentel as I've stated. Shentel is a subsidiary/partner of sprint and is also part of the network vision roll out. Your area is serviced by Alcatel-Lucent and is making steady progress in Harrisburg which also is literally next door to Lebanon, PA. You WILL get LTE 800mhz/1900mhz and likely CW 2.5ghz and NV upgraded 3g. All sprint and affiliates will be upgraded to that standard. It takes time but last check, Shentel is making good progress.
Here is more info on your area..

Puts them in a position to have an LTE compatible device that could work in Japan, China and US.
For Softbank (and Sprint) that's big.
i though sprint had already bought them out? and it wasnt clear anymore it was just sprints network and their control?

4G Las Vegas

Hi all,
I'm going to Vegas for about a month. I have a Note 2 and after looking on the internet Las Vegas doesn't have 4g LTE but it looks like its smothered in 4G Wimax.
My question is for those in Vegas are:
How is the 3G there? Is it worth bringing my Note 2 or Epic Touch?
How is the 4G WiMax there?
My wife has the Epic Touch should I switch with her for the time I'm in Vegas so I can get 4G WiMax?
All help is appreciated
Thanks,

Wimax is really good but 3g can really be hit and miss. In some areas is decent in other areas its horrible and there are no plans for late anytime soon. As soon as my contract is up in April I am switching to metro PCs as they have excellent lte coverage here and they are dirt cheap at 60 bucks a month with no data caps. Got a friend that switched and he couldn't be happier

Depends where you are in Vegas. I'm in the Peccole Ranch/Lakes area and while Wimax is great outside, it's aweful inside. However a friend with a Clear usb dongle got rocking Wimax inside here. Somehow the Sprint speeds are a lot lower at least for me. Overall Wimax has Vegas covered pretty well though and was like the first Wimax market to go live. Sadly that seems to mean LTE won't come here for a long time yet.

Lol nah only if he wanders out behind the Adventuredome onto Industrial Blvd or if he gets as far as Naked City across Sahara to the north. Although they did bulldoze mist of Naked City for the new high rise condos noone bought. The Steak House in Circus is top notch though. Wins best of Vegas awards every year. Anyhow your Wimax should work fine down there. Can't speak for any in house Internet there since that building is old as hell. Bullet proof vest also necessary uif he decides to walk to Fremont or finds himself behind the Convention Center buying women or crack. Don't touch the buffet though.

If you want to eat cheap out there, hit the old strip (Downtown) at the Golden Nugget, no crowds and all you can eat for $6.
If you are into Pinball, hit the Pinball Museum (as they call it) you can blow $20 easy on all the different pinballs in there.

Getting 86'ed from Circus Circus is an impressive feat. What, did he take a dump in the lobby while punching a concierge or something? I worked there like 8 years ago and did things that looking back, while pretty funny, it's absurd that I wasn't fired or even once disciplined. A customer would have to do some reprehensible acts of depravity. Or get caught counting cards.
Back on topic, I just drove by there and Wimax was pretty solid. Can't speak for inside though. Wimax sorta stinks at penetrating buildings in my experience and most casinos in general tend to have poor Wimax and 3g reception inside at least on the casino floors. Then again most have added wifi hot spot capabilities throughout the gaming areas now that are free provided you register on a portal website for access to the Web. Station casinos and others are also bringing a new push which is tying in apps with the games there as well as sports book betting apps. So they have been working at blanketing the strip with mobile data coverage. I will say that Verizon data speeds in Vegas are outrageously fast here compared to sprint. But they are crooks and charge too much. I'm not sure how full the wifi coverage is in the rooms but it is almost full in public areas. Odd too as not even 5 years ago it was a huge no no to even use a cell in gaming zones. Using cells at table games is still restricted which is good since it's annoying and rude when nitwits are talking to someone while at a blackjack etc table. Slots are ok though. I know I like snapping pics of when I hit nice $2k+ payouts on video poker. I myself am moving from Peccole Ranch to way up in Centennial Hills which I hope is accurately portrayed in the coverage map since the area I'm at now is called the Bermuda triangle by all the stores for all carriers since the area has a serious lack of towers thanks to people blocking tower builds because they are stupid and complained about the towers blocking their views of the valley. Which they never had anyways. Enough rambling from me. Too drunk to know what I'm saying... Gotta love a 24hour town....
