its not the S3 that is beiing sold internationally, this one looks kinda odd.
maybe a US AT&T or verizon 4G branded samsung model, as samsung still uses the traditional "galaxy" design with 2 touch buttons and in the middle a physical home button, like our gio.

So I work at AT&T and our Samsung rep just paid us a visit and had a galaxy nexus to show me. This phone is sick, ics is amazing I couldn't put it dowb . It felt so polished and the screen was beautiful. I didn't notice any problems with it being pen tile I couldn't see any pixels and ics looked very sexy with the blue. The new multitasking is amazing and can't wait to get it on my i777.

SGH-i777 is the Galaxy S II on AT&T.
Also, why on Earth would a Samsung rep come to AT&T to show you the phone? Did you honestly not ask him when it's releasing on Verizon?

Its possible that they will sell it unlocked in the near future (after Verizon launches). Reps tend to carry several different phones with them at all times and this one might have been too excited about the phone or Jonnyredcorn asked about it and the rep pulled it out of his pocket.

I currently own the Xperia Play and was just wondering if it's worth upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Personally I'm getting quite tired of the thickness of the phone itself as I barely use the gamepad feature anyway. I am also a little bit reluctant being attached to a 2 year contract.
Any ideas?
BTW... Please do not mention Iphone 5... imo it really sucks!

I have both the Xperia Play & Galaxy S III (international version). I would say that if you want an awesome phone GET IT. I really don't like the Xperia Play myself too. Too thick & etc.
I'd get an HTC phone way before a Samsung. Also HTC will be PlayStation certified.

I would never buy the S3 for a few reasons.
1: The Super AMOLED screen has a pentile subpixel matrix, which makes it more green than any other color
2: The build quality is cheap
3: The Super AMOLED screen creates a burn-in on the notification bar
4: The LEDs on the screen wear out much more quickly than a normal LCD display
So I say no, but w/e
Great, if u dont love games.
Other than that, You should get it!!!

Thats a great combo for home use but not on the go. There is no stand on the Nyko controlller to hold the Android device in place. Which means you can only play your Android device on a flat surface. No thanks but I am waiting for the Xperia Play 2.

Don't get me wrong, I think Xiaomi makes great phones, but I would rather buy something that is officially sold in the US & Europe, because that kind of ensures that there will be developers who speak at least english.
I would not want to go through the hassle of finding my way through a chinese forum where no one speaks english and I have to use the godawful Google Translate to even get a glimpse at what is being said.
I wouldn't waste my time. You are used to a certain level of polish and dev support since you use a nexus. Regardless of what specs this xiaomi has it will still not be on the level of stability and overall usability of the nexus.
how much n where?
Just get it and sell it for more over here?

nice looking phone, nice specs too
but it is still a new company (at least globally) and like someone else mentioned, most dev happens in chinese forums.
if you have the money then why not check it out
if money is tight i would skip this phone and look for something else. i doubt you will break even or turn a profit if you sell it

Hi All -
I'm in the US and recently purchased a 32gb Xiaomi Mi-2 from China and love it so far. I purchased it from ibuygou.com in China and you can read my full review of the phone over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37364601#post37364601
Hope this helps!
Can anyone give me some advice on what phone I can buy that has large screen (>4.5") with budget about US$ 500 (MYR 1550 in Malaysia)? Thanks.

I know someone asked this question once but the answer he got wasn't solid.
Okay so currently I am a MyTouch 4g user, and I plan of going in for a galaxy Nexus. where I live, selling of fake products is what they do best.
So I was wondering if I could get solid methods or ways of checking if the device is original. Like the MyTouch 4g, I opened terminal emulator and check the Emmc chip type since there were just two types, so if the phone had a different one than the two, I could know it was fake.
So pls send in your ideas.
Thanks

Never heard of a fake android phone myself. Where are you planning on buying it that you would be worried? The galaxy Nexus is a year and a half old, I doubt anyone would bother making a fake anymore.

Flash factory image (or any gnex rom) on it. If it works, its real. If it doesn't, its fake.

There are several Chinese manufactured android phones on the market, and they have the android os on it which support android apps but aren't original.
They normally lack the original features like they may say it 16 gig internal but its actually 30 mb,and all that.

I didn't even know they make a fake galaxy nexus....
So....
How about doing the opposite, go in to the store and tell them you want to buy a fake galaxy nexus... if they take the bait and show you one then at least you'll know what it looks like, ask them you explain what makes it fake and afterwards ask to see a real one.

I am not saying I have seen a fake galaxy nexus but I have seen a Chinese nexus 1 and a Chinese s3 mini and Chinese galaxy s duos. And they all run android, but they are Chinese , the use android 2.3 and rename it to android 4.0 and the internal memory is really small although u would see 16 gig or 32gig and to top it up it has multi-touch.
