Nope, it is inside /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.. The naming system for the backup folder is <name of your ROM><date and time of your backup>.. Even you backup the same ROM, the date will be different, and even the date is the same, the time will be different. So, it is supposed not to overwrite your previous backup..

Reinstall Nandroid?

I realized recently that my nandroid backups were not completing correctly (see pic). I noticed this because I have done numerous nandroid backups and there is only one backup showing in the nandroid folder. It always says "backup complete" but above that it looks like it might not be completing correctly? Is there a way to reinstall nandroid backup?
this is normal...
I've experienced problems with backups in Amon Ra as well. I've had a lot more success backing up via Rom Manager through Clockwork. Just an FYI for the future.
tyrnight, what is normal? and how come when I just ran this Nand backup, I have no new backups in the nandroid folder?
MSmith1, I thought Clockwork isnt a complete backup like Nandroid?

*sigh*
clockwork is a recovery just like amon is a recovery -
THEY BOTH have nandroid backup feature... its just as easy if not easier in clockwork and yes it is a complete nandroid backup

Clockwork & Nandroid are two different things. Amon RA & Clockwork are two different recoveries, & the nandroid backups can be performed by both of them.
I'm personally using Amon RA's recovery because i heard Clockwork doesn't wipe data as it's supposed to.
In the image you posted you are using clockworkmod backup/recovery. Therefore your back up images are in /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup, not nandroid.

exactly...
OK I think I got it now. I thought Nandroid backed up differently than the Clockwork or Amon tools. I didnt realize the Clockwork (which I have been using) is a COMPLETE back up of the phone. I thought it was only backing up the ROM and not the data and apps, etc.
So since I have Clockwork/Amon through ROM Manager I can just use that to run my complete backups instead of going into Nandroid through recovery mode?
You can only use Clockwork to backup via ROM Manager. If you use Amon RA you'll have to manually boot into Recovery & backup from there.
Clockwork is not working properly. It is not backing up sdcard's and is not wiping all data. I recommend just using nand and quickboot however the new clockwork flashed over nand had to reinstall Nand Recovery via adb etc..
I'm new to this all myself but I think the reason it won't back up the SD card is because it would have to backup the entire card and where would it put the file? I'm guessing your SD card would have to be large enough and partitioned for it to write the backup to. That is total speculation of course...
First of all, according to the pic, your sdcard is pretty critically low on space so a nand backup probably won't complete fully. Second, the message about android.secure is a directory reference that occurs if you have transferred your apps to your sdcard. Since it can't find the directory, I'm assuming you aren't using apps2sd. The second message about the sd-ext directory only applies if you've actually created a secondary partition on your sdcard. So just because it skips those two areas doesn't mean that the remainder of your data has not been backed up.

[Q] Nand backups

Can you change the name of the backups on the sdcard/ clockwork/ backups, i know they are listed by date, but is it possible to change it to say the rom that was ran on that particular backup, so that way i can backup to that rom instead of guessing by date, lol.
so i decided to find out myself, since no one else could answer this, but yes you can rename your backups so when you go to recovery and do a nand restore they are renamed to what rom your running instead of date and time.

Where are Clockwork and Amon saving backups?

When I create backups with Clockwork and Amon, where are they saving on my SD card? I would like to get rid of some old backups that I do not need.
Amon_RA saves to /sdcard/nandroid
Clockwork saves to /sdcard/Clockwork
I can't be 100% positive on clockworks since I use Amon_RA mainly but if I remember correctly, that's right.

Good question!
I just rooted my EVO 4G with Unrevoked 3.21, and expected to find a backup on the sdcard.
But after mounting the sdcard from my SUSE install, and also browsing the sdcard from my EVO,
I am unable to find anything that appears to be a backup.
Anyone know for sure?

One way to find it is to install windirstat on windows and scan your card, the directories above 500 megs may contain the backup. Nandroid backups also contain these files:
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
nandroid.md5
system.img
wimax.img
They are in a directories with the date of the backup, that entire folder is the "backup file" so move the whole thing as a whole, you may also rename the folder to your liking.
It is also possible that the backup was failed somehow and ended up as a non-readable file (to me anyway) in LOST.DIR
the locations xnotta provided are the correct ones, but RA also nests the backup folders under a larger folder according to the device ID that you see in fastboot when you do fastboot devices in adb or terminal.

[Q] What should be backed up in Amon RA nandroid backups?

I recently upgraded my Amon RA to the latest build (2.3)
I like all the new choices but I'm confused about what I should be backing up when making a Nandroid.
I made one that backed these parts up:
[x] boot
[x] system
[x] data
[x] wimax
Is that good enough? Should I backup recovery too? I understand sd-ext and .android-secure backups will take more space and time to create. But are the ones I listed above pretty much the only essential things if I ever need to flash a backup?
yep...
I would make a backup of just wimax, then there would be no need to back it up again.
Depends on your amount of paranoia about being able to recover. I backup my entire phone, including my SD card, prior to flashing any ROM. So far I haven't had any issues recovering. Granted I'm new to rooting and flashing ROMs...so haven't had enough time to really bork things up.
I know my b/u is over kill, but I'd rather spend the few extra minutes getting everything than find out I missed something if I need to recover.
HTC Evo
Rooted, but still stock...for now

The program is designed to work, if it's not, we have a problem.
You are good to go with your backup scheme.
You don't need to backup WiMax every time. Just back it up once, separately, then backup boot, data, and system regularly.
i have four or five nands on my card that i checked every option for. cant hurt...
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I'll take it all into account and do an "in case of catastrophic data loss" backup (in other words, full on backup, full checks)
And keep it to the OP scheme i had for future backups.
@n00bhackin
I'm the same way. Better safe than sorry.
Yep, wimax is a seperate backup.
Before backup, wipe cache and dalvik cache (reduces size of backup file and forces dalvik to be rebuilt when recovered).
At a bare minimum: boot, system, data
If you use apps2sd, backup .android.secure also unless you want to reinstall some apps.
If you use apps2sd to a ext3 partition on your SD, backup SD:ext for the same reasons above.
If your not sure which apps2sd you are using;
1) check on your SD the folder .android.secure, got apps there then its option 1.
2) if you use dark tremors apps2sd, then you know what it does and you back up option 2.
It would be awesome to have a .ini file on the sd with various defaults already enabled.
Maybe next in the next version

[Q] faulty nandroid backup

Alright, my stats:
Sprint's network
HTC EVO 4G rooted (I think using unrevoked, awhile ago)
Live in edmond/Tulsa OK
was running cyanogenmod 7
Here's the problem:
1. I tried to make a nandroid backup with ROM manager premium
Got stuck at HTC EVO splash screen on reboot
2. tried to make a backup manually.
Got to bootloader screen, then went to recovery. Stuck on splash screen
3. Found a thread telling me my recovery didn't flash, and it gave me a link to a zip file with a copy of clockwork recovery, I think it was version 3.
The suspicious thing is, ROM manager still thinks i'm running clockworkmod recovery v5, but it clearly says i'm running 3. something when i'm actually in recovery.
4. flashed above mentioned recovery, made nandroid backup, flashed to stock HTC evo rom to use the ##GPSCLRX# thing which did not help. It wouldn't even bring up an MSL password box. (I am having numerous bugs with cyanogenmod, including GPS)
5. Now i'm trying to restore back to my nandroid backup since the GPSCLRX thing did not work. thing is, it doesn't have the same sort of file structure as the stock evo rom. My phone doesn't think it's a nandroid backup.
The backup i'm trying to restore to is not compressed at all, actually. there are 8 files in the folder:
.android_secure Disk image file
boot Disk image file
cache Disk image file
data Disk image file
nandroid MD5 file
recovery disc image file
system disc image file
wimax.HT0AEHL07834 Disc image file
Which is totaly different from the HTC evo stock rom folder structure, which is a compressed folder and has META-INF folder, a system folder and a boot.img file
What I'm thinking is that i'm trying to flash a backup from a different recovery version.
Anyway, Expert thoughts on the subject would be much appreciated on any part of the matter. I would mostly like to get all my settings back though. After I find a way to get cyanogenmod back, i'm planning on using this thread to get my gps to work.

Don't be Beech, Be Russian; Use Amon Ra
Give Amon Ra 3.08 a try. One of it's key features is that it can restore CWM backups AND it's native Amon Ra backups. I have it installed, and I have the same problem w/ ROM Manager--it says I still have CWM, which is false. So I just uninstalled it, which you can do since Amon Ra isn't compatible with it's features. You can find it in my signature, just click on "Amon Ra 3.08".
Don't use ROM Manager. That's just a fact. It doesn't do anything but create problems.
Don't use CWM. People have had problems with CWM Nandroids
When you restore a backup u do it through the backup option. You don't flash it like a normal rom which from your post is what I'm understanding you are trying to do. In the backup option or nandroid or whatever its called on cwm there should be an option labeled restore, select it, locate your backup, select it and then select restore and let it run, first make sure you flash a format all zip or wipe all the options except battery stats and SD card, included wipes should be factory reset/data, boot, data, system, .SD_secure, sd-ext and any other options aside from SD card and battery stats

And I agree to get rid of rom manager and cwm I personally use the amon RA style supersonic recovery v3.08 which I would recommend for you coming from cwm as this version will allow you to still use your backups made with cwm although I would recommend restoring what ever backups you want to keep after you change and making fresh copies with amon RA and then deleting the cwm counter part, also you should make a backup of just the wimax option in amon and then save it in dropbox or attach and email it to yourself and save the email if you don't have dropbox just keep it somewhere safe besides just your phone and PC incase you have a loss of data

amon ra is the way to go.
.
it's never failed me, and the full backups are quick.
