i got this phoine from a friend who had it less than 6 months and when it went out on him he decided on the s3 instead of any kind of repairs, to pro The phone had never had any kind of mods done or attempt of any kind. completely stock but I can only get iinto download and recovery modes. any selection made i n recovery mode just soits back red error messages and nothing else.
So I guess Im stucki about how to proceed in my attempt at recovering this phone and eventualloy rooting it and making it what it could possibly be. I have previously rooted and tweaked phones but never a samsung... asny ahnd all helo and advice is appreciated. Thanx

I do not think it matters since you'll be using a one click, but since you said it was stock it's most likely on ICS. The one click method does everything for you so you do not need odin just download it, extract it to a folder on your desktop, and then click it and click it again, and then run as administrator. Plug the phone into the computer via USB make sure it's in download mode.

freezes at recovery in oneclick
so I dl the one click and it runs through for about 10 seconds then gets to the recovery labled in area next to the green status bar and yellow connected to port window and that is as far as shell go.
You must use a "restore " data one click file. You have no idea what was running previously on phone so you need to go with stock/rooted restore. The "no data " option cannot be used, it can only be used if you are staying on same build, example ics to ics or Jb to Jb.
Use restore and you should be good to go.

You must read and comprehend "one click" not tar, one click zip. This oc zip is dummy proof.

Good first question.
The second one doesn't seem to apply, yet, since they can still get into recovery/odin modes.
Either they got up and running, or bricked and don't want to post back..

I hope he got it running. Reminds of when I got the og Epic 4G and 2 days later flashed it with a rom for the international gsm version. I didn't know about XDA at the time and it took a few hours to recover from that. After that I started reading carefully.

Try to flash a GB08 Restore One Click. Not rooted, not deodexed, just a straight up stock restore.
Make sure you are using a good USB cable that is plugged into a good port. Plug the phone in AFTER you have opened the One Click Odin package. You will see the COM port appear then you just need to click start or begin or whatever it says. Give it time to flash.

Hey everyone,
I tried flashing a new rom from my phone earlier and I think it may not have flashed successfully. I hit reboot after it was finished installing but my screen remains blank and the blue led remains lit. I have tried battery pulling and using the button combos to go into either recovery or download mode but I haven't had any luck. When I use the buttons to go into recovery or download mode the led blinks for a second as though it is recognizing the command but the screen remains blank and the led stays solid blue. I have tried hooking the phone up to my computer and ODIN doesn't seem to recognize it either. Does anyone have any ideas or can anyone confirm if I am bricked? I would really appreciate some help. I have had this phone since the day it came out and have messed around with it quite a bit but I am out of ideas and have always been able to either boot into recovery or download mode Thanks in advance!
I would try a jig first. u can get one off ebay or make one. also if that doesn't work jtag maybe be your only option. hooe you can bring it to life man
What did you flash ? I was drunk as hell last night flashing a kernel in Odin in the phone section and wondering why it would never finish until I realized it was in phone not Pda .... I did it like 3 times before I finally fixed it got Cm7 back on it with no Baseband ... Funny now but odined a radio and all was fine.... The only thing that will usually F this phone up is flashing bootloader from int. Version that's a instant brick not fixable

I flashed the "tbm" FB17 rom which just came out today. I downloaded it directly to my phone so there is a possibility it could have been a bad download. Prior to that I was using Calkulin's stock FB17 deodexed rom which was released yesterday.
by chance did you use the touch recovery at all? lots of people have been bricking their devices lately using that.

I'm going to go to Sprint today and if that doesn't work I might try the JTAG thing. Or just sell it to someone who wants to do it and get another phone. I don't really want to get another phone, but... I gotta do something.
Thanks for the responses.
Well since I just bricked my phone I decided to start this tread. I figured it would be helpful for people to read to keep them from bricking their phone by not following the same process of the unlucky few who have hard bricked their device.
I flashed the Rogue CM9 kernel through Mobile Odin Pro and while on the FB17 leak from Calk which is where I think I made my mistake. when I went to flash CM9 alpha 3.1 it got stuck at install for about 15 minutes before i decided to the battery which I knew was a HORRIBLE idea. When I tried to boot back up all I got was a blue light. My guess is that the phone didn't like that I had a AOSP Kernel while on a TW rom and got confused and froze because it didn't know what to do next. The good news it that sprint is ever so gracious to provide me with a new phone coming in the mail on Thursday since they don't have any in stock. I just told them I got a update and when it installed it wouldn't boot back up and I should hopefully be back in business with some CM9 yumminess later this week thank the cellular gods for insurance!
Some users are reporting that mobiletechvideos.com is somewhere you can send your phone too have it brought back from the dead.
I got the exact same thing but my sprint reps think that the screen went out and are trying to replace it.
So I just got my second e4gt yesterday from hard bricking mine by flashing CM9 alpha 3 then flashing cwm touch recovery after I restored a nandroid of el29 it just wouldn't boot back

Flash Miui Rom then flash CM9. Dont use CWM touch at all.. just use a basic recovery like rogue or stock CWM
Yep. Touch recovery seems to be the common denominator amongst the bricked phones. I was lucky enough to just get mine swapped out at a Sprint Service Center. I certainly won't be using CWM Touch for anything ever again.

I think the culprit is using an aosp recovery while on a TWIZ ROM... I would avoid that because I bet that is the issue...
It doesnt seem to be just the Clock Work Mod Touch. It would seem that sbrissen thinks that in ICS the data partition or blocks are slightly different and this is causing errors when flashing ICS or back to GB from ICS. So id say for now stay away from ICS in general until this is completely sorted.

Here you go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Instructions are on that page, just make sure you use the full restore, and not the preserve data or you can brick. At the current point we don't have a kernel built from source yet, because of this, you must flash back to stock rooted EL29 via ODIN OC or you will brick. I highly suggest you read my thread in my signature because flashing anything ICS for this phone can be extremely dangerous and will brick your phone if you aren't sure what your doing.
Just to be sure you are looking at the right thread, please go to settings>about phone. Make sure model number is SPH-D710. I only say this cause I haven't heard of a Cyan ROM, and (not trying to be a jerk), most people refer to this phone as the epic 4g touch. You got something weird up there, and there are at least 20 different versions of this phone (galaxy s2).

Ok, reporting back.
First we tried the 'don't overwrite data' option, everything appeared to be ok until the phone rebooted. It sat on the 4G splash screen in a continual restarting state for about ten minutes. We tried flashing that twice. After that we tried flashing the factory restore with root option, that worked just fine.
Thanks again for the input.
Now he'll have to restore all of his desired apps, but that's his problem, since I told him not to root in the first place. LOL.
Cheers.
Hello everyone, this is my first post. I am not a complete noob I had a Motorola Triumph I flashed dozens of roms and never bricked it or anything. I have an epic 4g touch, of course, and it was running the Blu Kuban rom , I think 1.5.1 or something, the one beofre the latest update. So i wanted to try the 'Jellyverse" fk23 since I loved the ICS Universe rom, great battery life, better than the kubans. I flashed the rom first with the recovery the blu kuban had, and then I dont know why i flashed an acs fk23 recovery, I didnt read the instructions right, dont know what i did there. Phone boots, and stays on welcome screen, nothing more.
Yes, I have tried Odin, phone isn't recognized. Have tried two pcs, reinstalling drivers, 3 different usb cables, and odin cant recognize it.
or the pc for that matter.Phone does get in android system recovery 3e, and does read sd card.tried flashing ff18 update and get signature not valid etc. Forgot to mention the usb port may be defective cause it did get wet with milk a bit the other day, i dired it but left it on most of that day anyway, but it still charges.
What can i do? I went to best buy but I am scared they will notice what happened, the welcome screen is obviously jellybean...
How can i save this phone? adb, fatboot? Sorry I am a noob when it comes to these things i Just mentioned. And sorry in advance if this was posted somewhere else. I am really grateful to all epic 4g touch devs, they make awesome roms. I know its my fault, etc, I just want to know if theres anyway i can revert to stock anything or get it working, or if i have to jtag it, or I will just have to travel 2 hours to visit my sister who works at best buy and ask her to play dumb that the phone is rooted and replace it with the best buy insurnace i have.

Use Mobile Odin....Flash EL26 found here https://www.dropbox.com/s/f83s6y8wsnzqjau/EL26_StockCWM.tar.md5 (I will link to original in a little bit) ...Then reboot phone into custom recovery (power button and vol up until phone reboots)...Ohh wait, your stuck in a bootloop?? You're definitely going to need to utilize Odin on the PC to get out of it
Edit: Follow the instructions here.....Have you tried a One-Click odin? If your PC won't recognize the phone...restart everything. Try a different USB port, make sure your drivers are installed. I can't think of any other troubleshooting steps.....Maybe a different computer?
I got this phone from a friend of mine who after having the phone basically crash in his hands decided to just get the S3 instead of trying to figure this one out.
It is a Sprint version S2 so it is a SPH-D710. I have began some preliminary searches on methods to repair this so I can actually root it. From everything I have read so far it sounds like it should be able to accept and execute commands from Odin. Not the case however.
I can enter both download and recovery modes and when in Odin the com port highlights as yellow signifying that it is reading my phone. It runs through a brief list of script and then the first box in odin is full green bar but that is as far as it gets and will stay that way till i get irritated and pull the battery. I have no way of getting anything information wise from the phone cuz it will not boot up and when in recovery mode it is just nothing but read script with error code after error code.
What do I do and where do i begin to recover this device? I would love a actual link to the stock firmware and kernel and rom installed from factory so i can hopefully get it to its original form and start fresh from there... I have previously rooted and tinkered with my own personal phone the HTC One V, so I am no expert by any means but do understand enough to follow along without causing you guys any frustration!!
Ill thank you initially here and muuch more after problem solved.
P.S. in recovery mode the option apply update from external storage is there, Is it possible to load necessary files on sd and boot from recovery that way?

Typically in that instance you wouldn't be able to get to recovery or download. I'm pretty sure that it just gives the blod.
Not 100% on that, but I do know that I flashed a Tar for the wrong version of my galaxy player (they didn't include the last digit of the model number to differentiate) and was able to recover that. In theory it should be the same
