I have a R800X (Xperia Play) Rooted, without an unlocked bootloader. I had noticed that quite a few apps were crashing, so i tried opening ROM manager to run a permissions fix. However it crashed too, so i turned my phone off to reboot it. When i tried to turn it back on, it was stuck in a bootloop. Going from the " Sony" Screen to the "android" screen, going black, then repeating. I've tried flashing 2.3.3 back on using Flashtool, but i had no luck. I really need help ASAP!! Thanks

Hope you've got CWM... in that case... restore from a NANDroid backup... it's a possible solution, to be honest I don't know any other... probably there some other solutions out there.

1.- CWM (Clock Work Mod) is a recovery menu for doing lots of things...
2.- One of those things are FULL Bakcups called NANDriod backups
3.- With a NANDroid you can fully restore your phone... It's equivalnt to flashing a fresh firmware + titanium (for apps and data)
you should try to install CWM... if your phone don't boot up you can try on booting time... but could be dangerous... your phone is not bricked... so try flashing fresh firm again. If fails again... tell me the whole output of flashtools (or whatever you use to flash).
EDIT: -_-' Just posted... when noticed your answer... It took me some time to write this...
EDIT2: LOL put reCaptcha string... on title XD

As far as I know, there is not a compatible version for the R800X, instead you have to use the general version. Since my phone can unlock its bootloader for some reason, the recovery for it wont work. Unless im Confused on which clockwork we're talking about here.

Hi,
So I think I made a brick. Here is what I did to mess up my Xperia Play. I had rooted my device, and installed Cola ROM via recovery Nandroid method. Everything was fine after I did a small mod to make the gamepad work properly. Months later, my phone started running slow and I decided(yesterday) I wanted to go back to stock. I booted into CWM via an installed app on phone. When I was in recovery, I made a new nandroid, then I went to restore. I chose advanced restore and only restored system. :crying: I don't know why I did this, I thought it might end up bad. The process completed and the phone rebooted, into a bootloop. Its all it does now. When I plug in the charger, the phone turns on right away and goes to boot looping. I never get a light on, on the power button. When the sony ericsson appears on the screen, and I have it plugged into the PC USB, I get a mounted drive, until it reboots again. Sometimes when it boots/reboots it vibrates, most of the time it does not vibrate when it boots/reboots. Trying to boot to CWM, holding or tapping back/vol down/search, but from what I understand is I don't really have a permanent version of CWM and can't unless I am unlocked.
I am an exclusive HTC user other than this device.
So I was going to try this flashtool http://androxyde.github.com/ program, but I don't think that will work unless erither A)boot the phone and install an app, or B)be unlocked
Is it possible to unlock the device, in its current state?
I am updating the Android SDK right now, but I do not think that flashboot is going to help either, unless I am unlocked.
Is there not some type of RUU(phone flash tool) for Sony devices like there is for HTC devices?
I hope I don't have to try and get a war rep. I have a custom Zagg full body and I really like it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
~thehoovie
Use Flashtool, and you'll be fine. Install stock 2.3.3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
And you have to pay $24 to unlock the phone.

hey ur phone is not bricked its soft bricked {or bootloop] you have 2 options from here on
1- if your bootloader is LOCKED (as u said) then download seus (se update sevice) and update ur phone bt be sure u have drivers of ur phone and ups backup.....(that's what i did)
2- u can try another method to get in cwm (if u hav nandroid backup) by xrecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774131
Fixed by flashing ftf via FlashTool

I was going to try to get the http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-play/ update, but I was worried it might install some newer OS version and then I would not be able to root(w/o unlocking), I tried Flash Tool first before this and it worked! I did try a few ways to get into CWM, including xrecovery, but none worked. Maybe if I had a found a CWM image for use in Flash Tool, but I haven't yet.
I tried a few ways to fix this, but everything I tried before using the ftf wanted me to be booted into the system, with USB debugging on, and/or rooted, which I couldn't get booted.
I was having a bit of trouble learning where to get images for Flash Tool and what folders it wanted them in, my previous experience with HTC devices, and Samsung ODEN tool helped.
What ended up working was installing Flash Tool v 0.9.0.0 , then the C:\Flashtool\drivers , then dragging the R800x_3.0.1.E.0.88_Verizon.ftf to the main window. I followed the on screen instructions, with the device off, I held search (and didn't let go until the process ended), and plugged in via USB.
Now working to root and remove bloat!
I am still going to unlock, I think it is a good idea to do so anyway.
Thanks again!

I spend the afternoon dicking around with my phone, because this was a plan I made a backup with clockwork mod.
I did something that caused a boot loop, no problem, restore from backup took a while but it went. then I tried again, but a little differently. same result. (after two failures I was just going to give up) got into recovery again and went to restore again. set the phone down, went and watched tv for half an hour. come back it's still on the screen for the restore. I look and the status bar is frozen, it doesn't look like it's done anything. Not much I can do at this point but reset it. I hit the reset button behind the panel and expected to be able to try again. WRONG. phone turns on, boots to the SONY logo screen and stays there. so I decided well I've rooted it once I can do it again. go to flash re-flash it, but when I boot into flash mode it says it's flashing data, but isn't actually doing anything. the status bar doesn't move nothing seems to be doing anything. Is there anything you can suggest to me that might get my phone up and running? I'm stuck using my old ARC which had it's problems, hence the upgrade.

Flash ftf file using flashtool or try repair feature in PC companion. Or maybe u can flash latest mod kernel and try to restore ur backup.
Before u begin flashing, please backup ur TA, u can find the guide in Z forum. Just for ur backup but please read carefully the procedure becoz messing with TA is extremely dangerous.

I've been trying to flash a new ftf, but it get stuck at "Flashing Data" and the bar sits at 0%
I can't backup anything any more and I can't flash the kernel because my phone doesn't have an unlockable bootloader, so I can't enable fastboot.

Hello, I recently flashed sphongle on my HTC ONE V, and it was working fine. I later installed gapps, which was also working fine (downloaded a few app and recovered my contact etc... using Titanium) for a while until I rebooted the phone. After this I could not get past the loading screen for sphongle. I do not know if Gapps was the issue, but I used version 20130301.
I then went to the my CWM recovery menu and did a factory reset, cleared the cache and tried restoring to the backup I made before I flashed the ROM. After doing this I could not get past the HTC menu. After doing all of this I now cannot access the bootmenu, it instead goes straight to the recovery menu when I hold down the power and volume down button as one would do to access the bootmenu. Because I can't access the bootmenu, I can't use an RUU.
If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would be very happy.:fingers-crossed:
I'll try to answer any questions people have.
CWM is more trouble than its worth. it doesnt have a boot to bootloader option like twrp? you are in a fix without the ability to access hboot

Honestly It's pretty embarrassing, and shows my inexperience at this, but the whole time I tried booting to hboot, my phone was plugged into my computer. Once I unplugged it I could boot into hboot no problem. I guess this would be helpful for new users to know.
Hello everyone. I know that before I should create a thread I should search the site more to see if there are similar threads. I have but unfortunately I've only found a few with no solutions.
This is about my phone which I flashed Ultimate HD 3.0.2 last June(mid). Everything was going well. I didn't have to restart my phone as much as when I had cyanogenmod. Last Sunday while trying to take a photo my phone died because of low battery. When I got home I charged it but would only get stuck at the Sony logo. To sum it up.
- When turned on/charged, the arc s would only get stuck at the Sony logo(no red LED light). The screen would get brighter, then dimmer, then blank, then go back to the Sony logo. I 'd gladly boot to CWM but nothing happens no matter what button I press. (Maybe I'm doing it wrong? No one clearly knows how to boot into bloody CWM. Almost everyone seems to say, errrr keep pressing back/menu/volume down/power after the Sony logo appears. If someone could clear it up on how to really boot into CWM, that would be great thanks)
- Tried Flashtool, PC companion, SEUS, but the phone also seems to have connectivity problems with the pc. It would slightly detect it then disconnect again. I try to flash a different kernel using Flashtool, the phone's LED turns blue(clearly indicating that it's in fastboot mode), but when I select a kernel, flashtool claims that I have to be in fastboot mode even when my phone's LED is blue.
I can't use any of the 3 tools(SEUS, PC, Flashtool) because it can't even be detected by the pc.(BTW I've fully charged the battery using an independent charger)
I fear this is a hardware problem but I hope it can be fixed. I'd really appreciate help. I've missed college to fix my phone just like I have before but this one won't budge. Thanks.

From my experience, if you install CWM on a rooted phone but with a locked bootloader it uninstalls as soon as you flash a new ROM and you have to reinstall CWM over again every time you do so.

Not exactly uninstall, the CWM for locked bootloader is installed on /system partition. This partition is wiped every time a new ROM is flashed, therefore removing CWM from your phone.

Some (if not most) ROMs, which are available for locked bootloaders, also include recovery already on the /system partition. At least I have seen custom recovery files listed in AROMA installation files for locked bootloader options.
I have not tested it myself (the freedom of unlocked bootloader ), so I am not sure though

Boot it holding the volume up button. This should get you into so-called "recovery" where you can, among other things, restore it to defaults.
If recovery also doesn't work (which would be unusual), boot it holding volume DOWN button. This will get you into a "download" mode where you can use ODIN to flash new recovery (such as CWM recovery which is very nice and powerful), or even flash entire firmware from scratch.
Good luck, let us know how it goes ~
[edit] oh and do all that while having it connected to USB power, in case the battery is empty.
still doesnt work

Anything doesn't work , When I boot while holding HOME and volume up (recovery) appears the blue advice in the upper left corner and about 2 segs after the cellphone restart again, again and so on, When I boot with the down (download) the process on kies working good but when ends the cellphone restart again, again and so on. I'm start to think that something in the hardware is damage :crying:
looks like you messed something up there...
Anyway, if your phone is rooted, and/or you don't care about warranty you can get it in download mode (you said it works fine with kies until reset, so I suppose it means that download mode is at least accessible).
And after that use Odin to reinstall the stock rom completely.
Or, again with Odin install custom recovery, and then whatever ROM you like.
While working with odin, be sure to stick to the guides here on XDA. (for a custom recovery see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980)

If you're not entirely stock you'll have trouble using Kies.
I myself had trouble when tried to revert to stock ROM from CM.
It failed to restore NANDroid backup every time, and I also didn't succeed in flashing the stock image with Odin as well.
In the end, I succeeded with this ROM (which is modified stock TW), usin ODIN. You can try this, just read and understand the instructions in the thread before you do anything.
Ironically, after a couple of days after reverting to stock rom I was so annoyed by the speed decrease compared to CM, that I reinstalled CyanogenMod back, found TouchWiz stuff I missed via separate apps, and I'm pretty happy with it ever since.
Bottom Line: anyways, if you already on custom stuff with altered warranty, you must get custom recovery working first, then it will be simple.
