{Q} Do I have a R800x Verizon brick now? Advice please - FIXED W/O UNLOCKING ! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So I think I made a brick. Here is what I did to mess up my Xperia Play. I had rooted my device, and installed Cola ROM via recovery Nandroid method. Everything was fine after I did a small mod to make the gamepad work properly. Months later, my phone started running slow and I decided(yesterday) I wanted to go back to stock. I booted into CWM via an installed app on phone. When I was in recovery, I made a new nandroid, then I went to restore. I chose advanced restore and only restored system. :crying: I don't know why I did this, I thought it might end up bad. The process completed and the phone rebooted, into a bootloop. Its all it does now. When I plug in the charger, the phone turns on right away and goes to boot looping. I never get a light on, on the power button. When the sony ericsson appears on the screen, and I have it plugged into the PC USB, I get a mounted drive, until it reboots again. Sometimes when it boots/reboots it vibrates, most of the time it does not vibrate when it boots/reboots. Trying to boot to CWM, holding or tapping back/vol down/search, but from what I understand is I don't really have a permanent version of CWM and can't unless I am unlocked.
I am an exclusive HTC user other than this device.
So I was going to try this flashtool http://androxyde.github.com/ program, but I don't think that will work unless erither A)boot the phone and install an app, or B)be unlocked
Is it possible to unlock the device, in its current state?
I am updating the Android SDK right now, but I do not think that flashboot is going to help either, unless I am unlocked.
Is there not some type of RUU(phone flash tool) for Sony devices like there is for HTC devices?
I hope I don't have to try and get a war rep. I have a custom Zagg full body and I really like it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
~thehoovie

Use Flashtool, and you'll be fine. Install stock 2.3.3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299
And you have to pay $24 to unlock the phone.

hey ur phone is not bricked its soft bricked {or bootloop] you have 2 options from here on
1- if your bootloader is LOCKED (as u said) then download seus (se update sevice) and update ur phone bt be sure u have drivers of ur phone and ups backup.....(that's what i did)
2- u can try another method to get in cwm (if u hav nandroid backup) by xrecovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774131

Fixed by flashing ftf via FlashTool
Hi again! Thanks Guys !

I was going to try to get the http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-play/ update, but I was worried it might install some newer OS version and then I would not be able to root(w/o unlocking), I tried Flash Tool first before this and it worked! I did try a few ways to get into CWM, including xrecovery, but none worked. Maybe if I had a found a CWM image for use in Flash Tool, but I haven't yet.
I tried a few ways to fix this, but everything I tried before using the ftf wanted me to be booted into the system, with USB debugging on, and/or rooted, which I couldn't get booted.
I was having a bit of trouble learning where to get images for Flash Tool and what folders it wanted them in, my previous experience with HTC devices, and Samsung ODEN tool helped.
What ended up working was installing Flash Tool v 0.9.0.0 , then the C:\Flashtool\drivers , then dragging the R800x_3.0.1.E.0.88_Verizon.ftf to the main window. I followed the on screen instructions, with the device off, I held search (and didn't let go until the process ended), and plugged in via USB.
Now working to root and remove bloat!
I am still going to unlock, I think it is a good idea to do so anyway.
Thanks again!

root error - aborted. now arc won't start anymore, nor flash. help me plz

I was trying to root my xperia arc.
i started flashtool, everything went alright. then error -aborted.
now phone can't start anymore, I can't do anything with it.
plz help me
You have to tell a little more to get the right help.
Bootloader locker or unlocked?
What firmware did you use when rooting the device?
What did you use to root, Gingerbreak?
i'm sorry
bootloader locked, never touched that
i never touched anything. I'm on 2.3.3, so I was trying to get back to rootable version.
its when i was trying to flash it to previous version that flashtool aborted. saying : power on go to settings and turn on ressources and debugging.
but i can't do anything with. It doesn't even start up.
thx
no prob, can imagine you're upset
did you try to flash it again?
How was your battery when starting in the first place?
Did you try to start up with power cable plugged in?
wow i just tried sony ericsson update service, and now the phone seems to start up.
the mistake i did i think is that i forgot to reinstall the sd card before starting to flash it.
as i'm writing this the phone is correctly working. so now was the sd card remove the mistake ?
1st option
I would say unlock the bootloader and reflash with the newest firmware, or you could just try this
2nd option
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358
I had the same problem (but my boot loader was unlocked) and it sorted it out, I thought it was just flashtool but it isnt theres special files in the firmware folder that unbrick the arc, let us know how you get on. try the 2nd option first
If its working now then it was a semi brick, option 2 fixes them no problem, try reflashing if you get the same problem just use the 2nd option afterwards and it will work fine
@grat_master
dunno bout the sd card, but glad SEUS did the trick for you.
@yusuo
can you unlock your bootloader when the device won't even start?
anyways, things worked out, no need to do more i think
ok so now the phone is working correctly.
but i tried it a second time to flash with flashtool, and it did the same thing. flash aborted, power on go to settings and turn on ressources and debugging.
what am i doing wrong ? i'm following namaste guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
but it just doesn't work.
yes you can, you put it in fast boot mode (turn phone off, then hold back button and plug usb in while still holding back button)
If is still doesnt turn on after use the brick fix (option 2)
Seemingly others have had problems too..
Common reasons:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162492&page=2
And try running flashtool as administrator and make sure you have the lt15.sin in loaders directory..
Unlocking bootloader is good if you want to install a custom ROM.. But u void your warranty and loose DRM (If you care bout those that is..)
LT15.sin is already in loader directory
and I'm also running it as admin, I also disabled user control.
Which firmware are you trying to flash, the UK or HK version? Maybe it's a corrupt file?

i live in canada, and i'm using a rogers branded phone, samething as in the video of namaste guide.
i am trying to flash north america generic and world generic, neither worked.
Have you tried removing the battery after flashing, and then putting it back and then boot up?
Sent from my LT15i
it can't flash !
i am not able to flash anything, it stops before end and the phone remains in flash mode even if I deconnect usb cable. I can connect it back to pc without pressing back button and the green light is on again. that's after the flashing crash.
now the phone is ok, I can go internet, receive give calls, but I still have my sms problem that I have since beginning. I'm sending it back again to sony for repairs. HAHA I received it from repairs yesterday, and I got exactly same problem as before. I hope they change it. I think my phone is broken /end of story. Broken from beginning.
Anyway, I'm heading back to my Rogers detailer now to see what they can do again.
Thx for help. I'll try to root again when I get it back.
Okay, good luck, hope you get a replacement!
my service provider Rogers Canada is sending me a new Xperia Arc, should receive it in 3-4 days. As soon as I receive it, I'm gonna try root.
I'll let you know if it's working or not.
ok so i received my new xperia arc. now my sms problems are solved ! hourra
but i still can't flash it to root. It just don't want to do it.
what am I doing wrong ? I'll try a new ftf file. Can it be related to a bad sd card ?

Xperia Play R800at stuck in boot loop (never rooted)

Hi,
This is my brother's phone, and he tells me he went to use it the other day and the phone was off. When he turned it on it would show the "Sony Ericsson" screen, then the AT&T logo and back to the Sony screen, and the loop continues. The only way to make it stop is to remove the battery.
His phone is stock and has never been rooted or unlocked. I tried flashtools but can't use it because the phone has a locked boot loader. I tried to unlock it through the Sony mobile site, but can't because it asks to go to the menu of the phone which I cannot do for obvious reasons to verify if it is unlockable. I tried to do so anyway, but the instructions say that you press the "search" key while connecting it to the computer and a BLUE LED would turn on, this phone turns on Orange. At this point I am stuck and don't have a clue what can be done now.
What I really want is to just get the phone working, it doesn't matter if it goes back to stock or if it will have a custom firmware, just to get it working again.
I appreciate if someone points me to the right direction on what I can do to restore the phone. Any tutorials or instructions related to this specific issue. I have found multiple threads similar to this but all involved previously rooted/unlocked phones. Also, I mostly use Linux so any instructions for Linux users would be great.
Thanks
You don't. Need to unlock it top use flash tool. Download an ftf for the phone. And choose flash mode in flash tool. Then choose the ftf you want to flash. And it will tell you to unplug the phone and plug it back in while holding the back button. A green led should turn on then it should flash the data and reboot and it will be back to stock

As above, Flashtool doesn't require an unlocked bootloader. A link to the stock R800at firmwire here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399
Thanks! This worked perfectly, I mistakenly downloaded what Sony calls "Flashtool" on the Sony mobile site (named "Emma" when installed).
Any idea what could have happened to the phone in the first place to render it unbootable?
Again thanks for your help!
Could be the cache/dalvik partitions messing up. Usually when I get the same problem I just pop into recovery and clear these, but that does require root.
Quite strange for it to happen on a stock, non-rooted device though. Is the device working now?

[Q] I think i bricked my Arc, flashtool always gets stuck!

So my phone was running perfectly until i decided to sell it, unfortunately the sales man wouldn't accept my Xperia arc because i had AOKP, i opened recovery mode, choose restore, and i selected an old back up to restore, i thought it would bring my phone to stock.
But then whenever i turned my phone on it would crash with the AOKP start animation half blank, like the bottom half of the screen is completely black.
I googled "my xperia phone is bricked" and i heard that i can flash stock ftf to restore the phone, unfortunately flashtool gets stuck at around 8-13% percent every time.
I tried MANY different versions, many stock roms, turned off my anti virus, changed the cable, booted into safe mode with networking, it still lags. :crying::crying::crying:
Now whenever i boot it up it shows a phone with a warning sign next to it
I looked these forums up and someone suggested that i relock my bootloader and try the Sony update tool, i tried it but it says phone is already up to date
Now my phone is dead, battery ran out and it doesn't show the battery animation when i charge it, does that mean it's not charging?
Please help me, i just want to flash a stock rom and unroot it so i can sell it.

PC companion keeps saying i should turn on my phone, i can't turn it on.
I flashed KTG kernel and now the warning sign doesn't appear, only the Sony logo, whenever i try to turn the phone on it just shows the Sony logo and freezes, i tried to get into recovery but i can't, the led doesn't flash so i can enter recovery.
Thanks though.

YES, it's working again, thank you very much!!!
I "repaired" with PC companion and it wouldn't start, it still lags at the Sony logo, but after repairing it with the pc companion i was able to flash stock ftf without any problem, it's very weird flashtool always lagged before, i think it's because i repaired it now, or maybe because i charged my phone over the entire night? can a low battery cause flashtool to lag?
Anyway that doesn't matter now, thanks again.
My phone is working again after flashing generic world stock ROM, now only thing remains, how do i unroot and relock the bootloader? or is it unrooted already since i flashed a stock ROM? :\
I just want to sell the phone but unfortunately rooted phones don't sell here, every salesman i met rejected me, i want to unroot the phone and relock the bootloader, i just want to make it look like a brand new phone, it's in an excellent condition hardware wise.
I heard factory reset would brick my phone so I will wait until the phone is done booting up and i will download root check and see, i will also check if the bootloader is locked or not from the service menu, after that i will update this post. :good:
EDIT 1: Okay this is very awkward, my phone's battery is completely empty, i have no idea why it's at 0% even though i charged it over the entire night???
Anyway once it's done charging i will check the root and bootloader condition.
Sorry for my bad English.
If you flashed stock firmware, then root is already gone.
And if PC Companion installed firmware to your phone, then bootloader is locked, otherwise PC Companion would have not worked.
If you are still sure, that bootloader is unlocked, check the tutorial in my signature, it includes information how to relock bootloader.

Xperia arc S Ultimate HD 3.0.1 HARD BRICK WON'T BOOT WON'T CONNECT

Hello everyone. I know that before I should create a thread I should search the site more to see if there are similar threads. I have but unfortunately I've only found a few with no solutions.
This is about my phone which I flashed Ultimate HD 3.0.2 last June(mid). Everything was going well. I didn't have to restart my phone as much as when I had cyanogenmod. Last Sunday while trying to take a photo my phone died because of low battery. When I got home I charged it but would only get stuck at the Sony logo. To sum it up.
- When turned on/charged, the arc s would only get stuck at the Sony logo(no red LED light). The screen would get brighter, then dimmer, then blank, then go back to the Sony logo. I 'd gladly boot to CWM but nothing happens no matter what button I press. (Maybe I'm doing it wrong? No one clearly knows how to boot into bloody CWM. Almost everyone seems to say, errrr keep pressing back/menu/volume down/power after the Sony logo appears. If someone could clear it up on how to really boot into CWM, that would be great thanks)
- Tried Flashtool, PC companion, SEUS, but the phone also seems to have connectivity problems with the pc. It would slightly detect it then disconnect again. I try to flash a different kernel using Flashtool, the phone's LED turns blue(clearly indicating that it's in fastboot mode), but when I select a kernel, flashtool claims that I have to be in fastboot mode even when my phone's LED is blue.
I can't use any of the 3 tools(SEUS, PC, Flashtool) because it can't even be detected by the pc.(BTW I've fully charged the battery using an independent charger)
I fear this is a hardware problem but I hope it can be fixed. I'd really appreciate help. I've missed college to fix my phone just like I have before but this one won't budge. Thanks.

From my experience, if you install CWM on a rooted phone but with a locked bootloader it uninstalls as soon as you flash a new ROM and you have to reinstall CWM over again every time you do so.

Not exactly uninstall, the CWM for locked bootloader is installed on /system partition. This partition is wiped every time a new ROM is flashed, therefore removing CWM from your phone.

Some (if not most) ROMs, which are available for locked bootloaders, also include recovery already on the /system partition. At least I have seen custom recovery files listed in AROMA installation files for locked bootloader options.
I have not tested it myself (the freedom of unlocked bootloader ), so I am not sure though

New to Xperia M - how hard... or soft, did I brick the little (//&&%/$??

Hey people, got this cute little phone from my wife, was delighted initially because it seemed like custom rom haven and it really is cute little piece of functional white plastic (I meant, it was), but didn't last a day in my "new to Xperia" overconfident hands.
Anyway, I couldn't find any page that was foolproof and really explaining all the details step by step, so it kindaaa seeeems that I forgot the "unlock bootloader" part. I did several unsuccessful attempts at flashing official last version TWRP via terminal emulator and recommended app (can't remember name) - both seemed to do the work but couldn't boot into recovery, just regular reset. Then I tried Rushr app and flashed that TWRP image I had on SD card. I ran Reboot to recovery option - the thing just turned off. Now, what happens is that it vibrates for a second if I hold power button, but no go from there. If I connect it to PC blue light is on and PC says something like SP1FastBoot device connected or something like that.
So the big question is, is this soft or hard brick? What should poor bastard do in any case?
EDIT: Now I realized I get blue indicator light ONLY if I hold volume up before connecting to pc. If not, nothing lights. If I hold volume DOWN, I initially got "SEMC flash device connected", something like that.
your phone is completely alright, just install flashtool, its drives unlock the bootloader(there will be an option) and install recovery, after that flash a rom or stock backup
Thanks a lot, that's great news So in order to minimize risk of such noob mistakes I made (although still not sure what went wrong), I can use Flashtool for all my custom rom needs? Also, where can I download it, the links I found on XDA are dead, and googling brings out Sony's flashtool Emma. I really have no idea if it's the same thing or not, but from description it sounds like a tool for flashing stock roms, not customs. I need to be sure this time
EDIT: On XDA page dealing with TWRP installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m/orig-development/recovery-twrp-xpe it is specifically mentioned NOT to use Flashtool for flashing TWRP. Now it all gets confusing What does it mean, better chose CWM recovery or what?

Would you by any chance have some specific recommendations regarding recovery and rom combination? I prefer CM, but for instance, they say new CM 13 is for specific version of firmware (4.x, not sure which), and since my device is bricked, I have no way of checking what I have. Is there some combination of recovery/rom that's basically fool/brick proof? I found Flashtool, but I have to put roms in its folder, it doesn't come with or doesn't download firmwares from server or anything right?
I'm running in circles here, I'm stuck with Flashtool, and flashing Fota TWRP via Flashtool isn't recommended so... you see my problem
EDIT: I tried to unlock bootloader via Flashtool, I got middle finger: 08/042/2016 21:42:25 - INFO - Your phone bootloader cannot be officially unlocked
What does it mean? Am I doomed with stock firmware (even if I knew how to recover it) with "no custom roms" diet forever, or is there some "unofficial" solution?

There's nothing in .flashtool folder or subfolders, just a basic empty tree Seems Flashtool is a no go in my case, I think I'll try Sony's PC Companion, I think it's intended to recover stuck rom. And it requires 5 gigs of space on hard disk, so I guess it comes with everything already in the package
Fixed! Sony's Xperia tool is nothing short of miracle. Did the whole job, completely recovered device. Good job, Sony!
