I dont remember Google ever pushed an app without user consent or validation. I wonder what else is Google pushing that we cant see
It's just Google Play Services updated with an icon in the app drawer.

Everyone will get it, it's in the update to the Google Play Services thing.
We all know now that its a Google app that got pushed with the update to the Store. But the question is, how and why did it get pushed silently to install on our phones without user interaction. I didn't know Google can access/install an app remotely!!! What else can they do? read my messages? uninstall stuff?

They can update their critical system level apps like the Play Store, Services Framework, etc. silently and without consent. They can, in fact uninstall known rogue apps without your consent as well. These are known things in the android world. Scared? Get a feature phone, ohhhh wait... they can probably push silent updates too. This whole paranoia over a new icon is sooo stupid, it's just an icon, it just provides a simpler way to access features that were already available on your phones. It also paves the way for auto-sign-ins to applications using your G+ account, without having to set up all new accounts, but people seem to miss the benefits of change when they get washed up in conspiracy theories and fear of big brother goog.... relax, your privacy still has the same policy you agreed to when you created your accounts.

The Google Play services app updated itself the same way the play store does. Just because you're now seeing an icon for it in the app drawer doesn't mean it's a new app they installed.
Also, I'm pretty sure this'll be in an EULA/terms&conditions you agreed to somewhere so technically got gave them permission to do so already.

Nice, I did notice this yesterday on the update list.
One thing that still drives me bonkers is when I ask it to set a timer..
Like "set a timer for 10 minutes" it ALWAYS creates a NEW stupid alarm. Why cant Google just build in a countdown timer and have it run off that?
Its really annoying the fact it creates a new alarm for everything and doesn't delete when its done.
Launching apps only works with certain apps. Won't even launch Chrome.

Wonder if I have to install a different clock in order for it work properly?

Yes, I use the stock AOSP email for a unified inbox with my gmail and exchange, and it worked great. I do have the gmail app installed, but don't use it, you might need it on the phone for it to work properly, but it will do it without you even checking your gmail app.

Hey, if you go to settings and wipe google play store and then reboot, it then prompts to accept the disclaimer and should pick up your 3g ip in the states to give you the correct store. I have to use one click vpn to get paid apps because the isle of man is not part of the uk and as such we are not entitled to paid apps.
Hope this helps

Use orbot .start orbot services ,after it has started open playstore press "menu" then press "accounts" then choose the account you are already logged in to. Play Store will be re-loading and pop-up a confirmation window, says "By using Google Play, you agree to the ... ", just accept it and you can see a new Play Store without restriction.enjoy

You could also try "app brain". I personally find it better in finding apps, as it allows filters (like free vs pay) and sorting in your searches.

The App Installs but I get an error that says unsupported device or network. I'm on Sprint.
I was getting the unsupported warning and when I clicked the "learn more" link it said because I was rooted. I flagged back to stock and now the app won't finish the setup, called Google, said they know about the issue and that they're working on a fix.

Solution for me when Google Wallet wouldn't finish the set-up process and say "try again". Log into your online Google Wallet account and click on "Settings". There is a section labeled "Verification". Even though I had used Google Wallet many times and never had any problems, this section had not been verified.
I answered some of the questions and it was accepted online. I then went back to my mobile Google Wallet and tried it and now it works! I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Waited, and then it finished loading
Created PIN
Chose funding source (still stored my previous entries from when I had my Sprint GNEX)
Does say "Unsupported Device" up at the top, but from what I remember GW will still function as it should. It's just letting you know that Google isn't going to help you if you run into any issues since you rooted your device and removed some of the security.
I have yet to actually try a purchase with my phone, but once I do I will report back and confirm working or not.

It's because the device isn't authorized. Log in to Google music from your computer. Hit the little cog wheel in the upper right corner. Go to devices and delete ALL of the devices. Then wipe data on your Google music app. Then open it. Authorize it by selecting your email address when it first boots. Profit

Guys,
I'm having a crazy problem where the new 7.x Google Maps gets pushed to my Note 2, upgrading over the old Maps 6.14.4 I have installed. Same with Hangouts pushing over Gtalk. I have of course disabled auto-updates in the Play Store, and have disabled updating for those two apps on an individual basis in the store as well.
What gives, and how do I stop it or lock the existing apps as non-replaceable? As it stands, I keep copies of both old apks and reinstall over the new ones when it occurs. I can't figure out a pattern for the pushes, nor even see when they occur. I just starts Maps or Talk, get ticked, then downgrade. This happens ever day or two.

Yeah it really does seem not to care. I even tried detaching from play store with titanium backup. Seems like shortly after(after reboot?) It attached again/updates. I eventually have in and been dealing with the terrible new maps. Btw you can just uninstall the update by going to app info

It's easy to do. Install lucky patcher app. Open app, click on the app you want to modify, on the bottom of screen click custom patch a Window will pop up with options click disable auto self update. That's it no more updates. I have themed versions of maps and play store and that'd what I did to stop the updates.

I installed the latest LP from the LP website, v 3.5.4, here http://lucky-patcher.netbew.com/.
I did not see an option to disable auto updating. But I did replace the play store with the LP hacked version, and it is honoring the "no auto update" settings.
Spoke too soon. Twice today gtalk upgraded to Hangouts on me. So damn aggravating

I recall this procedure from older LPs. But this new one has changed a bit. What version are you running?

The New play store you can check auto update apps globally. But u can uncheck specific apps to not and the.play store 4.3.10 + will comply .... http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...pps-and-update-all-will-honor-these-settings/

Ok how would this work for latest version 4.4.2.1.??
I know this is an old thread, but Google Maps is up to no good again. Since the latest update, GPS tracking is screwed up, app loading times are super slow, and there are a plethora of other issues. I tried lucky patcher, but there are no custom patches for Maps. In fact, I had to restore an older version (9.14.0) just to get Maps to even show up in the app list in Lucky Patcher. So does anyone have any idea how to remove Maps self-update (for 9.14.0), or how to get the most recent Maps to show up in LP?
