Hey folks,
I'm running stock rooted Odexed I317UCALK7. I'm looking to upgrade to the latest OTA and I see scottsroms.com (the maker of cleanrom) has Stock Rooted De-Odexed I317UCAMA4. Can I flash this without a wipe? Or should I expect to wipe (I know I should always be prepared to wipe, and never back to front)?
Thanks!

I rooted my Galaxy S2 then rooted Blazers Sexy Can I rom. I did a back up of my stock rom after I rooted it. Now that Sprint/Samsung MAY be releasing stock ICS, I may want to switch over to that. The battery sucks on Blazers rom. Anywho, if I restore to my stock GB backup with root and get the OTA update, am I doing any damage besides losing root? Could my phone be bricked just restoring my backup and updating? Also, if I decide to not do the stock update and keep my root, can I restore back to my stock GB backup then flash a new ICS custom rom with no issues? I keep wondering because I see how if you flash an ICS custom rom, you have to go back to a stock version before you flash another. I am just wondering if my backup is enough.

if you want to go back to stock el29 i would use sfhubs el29 1 click odin, then restore your backup....
if you want the stock system while keeping root just use the ff18 rooted 1 click as opposed to accepting the ota
if you're just upset about battery life but otherwise like the rom you're on now look into kobridge tweaks, and good practices for battery conservation- i.e. sync manually, set brightness low, etc... these could potentially greatly extend you're battery life
I am currently on ICS 4.0.4 stock AT&T, rooted, CWM installed.
Will the update to JB unroot the phone?
What about the apps I have installed and personal data?
Will it replace CWM back with stock recovery mode?
Please explain if you know how it's gonna work

Well, you won't be able to install it over the air since those updates require the stock recovery to be in place. To maintain root you'd have to wait until somebody posts a rooted version of the room and flash it via Odin.
I'm assuming you can keep your personal data as is, since when I flashed via Odin from Stock to Rooted it remained.
So...
I have backed up and sync'ed all my data, so data loss is not a concern
I am currently running stock rooted L710VPLG8, with the bloat removed
I have installed and configured OTA root keeper
I have mobile ODIN installed
I also have ODIN installed on my XP laptop and a good cable to use
I am looking to update to the OTA version of stock, rooted JB, and I will be able to finalize the setup from there.
I dont care if I have to resetup everything or reinstall my apps, all I need to get back to where I want to go, is backed up.
I feel that a full wipe and reset would be the best way by far, and plan on a factory reset before I start, just to be sure I am moving forward with as clear a base as possible (but kinda doubt it is needed if I use ODIN from my PC.)
So, is it easiest to just ODIN the OTA tar and reroot, or can I just copy the OTA file to the SD card and use Mobile ODIN?
I have the basic of using the tools down, just looking for a tip on how to
a) get a clean build to start off on
b) move to the official stock JB build
c) end up with root access after updating (dont care about counter in firmware)
I downloaded and extracted the file from odin-tar combination_l710vpblj7 Jelly Bean, is there a better version to use with Mobile ODIN, if that is preferred?
Is QBKing's vid the best route for my given setup?
Best to go back to 100% stock, do the OTA, and reroot?
I don't think there's a JB OTA from Sprint yet. So far these JB ROMs are based on leaks.
In any case, doing a factory reset/wipe from your custom recovery should suffice. You don't need to unroot/wipe/reroot.
Going to dl the rooted non-data wipe from: from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1941546
Sounds like this will get me all I am looking for, and w/o a data wipe.
If that doesnt take, gonna try the one that wipe everything.

Wrong lol. In general theres like 3 different topics containing the JB OTA update. I used it on Thursday to update from LI3.
And OP, just unroot, if your on lg8 after the unroot stock, go download the lg8 to li3 ota, boot into recovery, install via external storage. After that completes download the li3 to LJ7, and do the same thing and you will be there.
The JB OTA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956618
and just search for the lg8 to li3 ota zip

I saw the same thing. No need to update if you have already updated.
I just got the notice too. However, I am rooted with the stock rom. When I check for the actual update it doesn't appear. What gives?

You can try running the OTA but it may fail if you have a custom recovery.
You can use this procedure if you are fully stock (but rooted) LI3:
- You must not have any modified or removed system files.
- You must be odexed (not de-odexed).
- Download eec955eb4a5b.update_SPH-L710_LI3_to_LJ7.zip and save it to your sdcard.
- Download TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5.zip and save it to your sdcard.
- Make sure you are fully stock (replace any files that you have modified or removed. i.e. Swype, etc).
- Boot into CWM recovery (I found that TWRP will not work due to ro.secure=0).
- Make a nandroid backup (optional but recomended)
- Flash the LI3_to_LJ7 udpate
- Flash the Team Epic (optional but will insure that the ROM does not reinstall the stock recovery on reboot).
- Wipe Cache.
- Reboot
If you are not completely stock LI3 there are other methods posted around here that will work for you.
I am running stock right now (JB 4.2.2) and I am planning to flash a Lollipop ROM (AICP 10). If I create a backup (for my stock ROM) at TWRP and did the needed measures to flash the Lollipop ROM and was successful however I want to return to stock ROM. Do I just have to factory reset and restore my stock ROM backup to have a stock ROM again? Sorry for this noob question.
Heeeeelp!
Any idea if that would work?
Just use odin to flash any stock rom
So backup-ing in TWRP before I flash Lollipop from my current rom [Stock JB 4.2.2] is useless?
You can also use your backup from TWRP.
But It will then show that it has been modified, could be a problem with the warranty.
If you want to go back completely for warranty then odin is the way to go
Thank you! I actually don't care about warranty since mine is overdue already. All I wanted to know was if I will be able to go back to JB 4.2.2 with that backup in case I have problems with Lollipop.
