VM FL14 repacks - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I cannot seem to get any kernel repacks working for my VM GS2. They boot fine, but I keep getting the darn unable to install apps to sd or usb storage for my paid apps. I am running the jellybean leaked rom btw. I have tried the FL14 repack to no avail. Any advice or suggestions. I have tried everything that I can think of. Flashing with regular odin or mobile odin makes no difference. Also wiping dalvik does not help either.

You have to flash the stock kernel back.

I know that because that is what I did. I just wanna know if there is any way to get a repack kernel working so I can at least have a decent recovery.

Nope. Since we don't have source, we can't have a fully working CWM.

There is an FL14 repack with Agats recovery however when I flash it through odin/mobile odin I get the darn usb sd card storage errors with my paid apps. Also it makes apps on my sd card disappear as well.

I get that... It is a known issue. There is no fixing it til sprint/samsung release source. Just keep reflashing back the stock kernel for daily use, and all will be good.

[ACS][KERNEL][ODIN] Stock Pulled Repacked with CWM5 ****Updated 10/28****

As the title implies...
I was finally able to repack the Stock Pulled Kernel from bubby323 with a little help from mkasick, and add CWM5. thats the only change.
No root, no Busybox, nothing else. But I am appending zips to install those here in my post.
What's the point you might ask?
Well as everyone knows, the source released from samsung was some bull****... LoStKernel, makes the best use of that source and adds lots of tweaks, and in my opinion is the best compiled custom kernel available...
But, some people stand by the point that only the stock pulled kernel is free from LoS, or is the LoS is least Rampant for them in that kernel.. But they want CWM too!
Well here it is, the Kernel it self is untouched, only the initramfs has been modified.
Updated 10-23-2011:
Added CWM 5.0.2.6 from Koush
and made some initramfs changes to make it more compatible with Rom Manager in the future.
Updated 10-27-2011:
Updated to CWM 5.0.2.7 from Koush
added init.d support
Updated 10-28-2011:
Updated initramfs layout similar to Koush's mentioned here.
though this one doesn't include stock recovery because of repack space limitations..

just flashed over midnight 2.1, appears to still have root... will give it a shot... only had maybe 5 LoS in the 5 days ive been rooted, NONE before... hopefully this is the ticket, and the problem was sammys 'source code'... thanks for this!
Thanks guys. So to confirm, just flash the CWM.tar in ODIN and nothing else and i'll be fine? No loss of existing data and settings e.t.c?
Thanks for the kernel.
When will CM5 support nand backup/restore to usb storage?
ok, just used quickboot to get into cwm... sadly I forgot the salute for the touch, anyways, once in cwm it couldnt mount anything... got stuck when I selected mount usb, battery pull, power button, went to cwm, then rebooted itself, now seems ok... is this a quickboot issue, or did this kernel just not like my existing setup (midnight 2.1 installed as directed)? Kernel version says 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734... just wondering if its user error or I need to reflash the kernel... did NOT wipe anything, as I thought w/ kernels it was unnecessary... everything else seems fine, Titanium reports the same busybox, SU, and root as before... just wondering if this worked... I know the changes are subtle... but just checkin

It should work exactly as it does on my custom kernels...
Flash zips from internal and external
Back up and restore from external.

Phone works great. Little hard on my eyes, might be the coloring of the theme. I just want to try something new, like CM9, but noticed that I have to go back to GB before I can go to CM9. Im just confused as to what to do now.
My phone currently reads:

Baseband version: S710.10 S.FE10

Ok well Odin on PC would work fine. Download all your files (rom, gapps, whatever you need to) and flash the el26 kernal with cwm. Then when that's finished and your phone tries to reboot, pull the battery and then put it back in, then boot into the recovery. Wipe all data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, then flash rom, then gapps and whatever else you may need. Be sure to do a nandroid backup when you first get into recovery.

el26_stockcwm.tar.md5?
So I just boot into recovery, flash from that and then as its rebooting i pop battery out, go back into recovery and load up CM9 and then load up gaps and let its start?
Be sure to wipe everything first. And yes that .tar file is the one you need. Do yourself a favor and re-read the cm9 installation process just to be safe.

Ok, if you want gapps, then download whichever kernal the rom comes with, just the kernal tho. Then flash el26cwm again and flash gapps, then before you reboot, flash the kernal that you had just downloaded with rom. You won't lose any data so you have nothing to worry about.

Ok.
So Im using Odin PC to put EL26CWM back onto the phone, then boot up the phone into recovery. Then I flash gapps onto it, but before restarting flash the kernel thats supposed to come with CM9. Right?
Now, I don't really like the recovery that comes with CM9, I feel like the display is a lot darker and I don't have as many options. Can I use another recovery?
Also my boot screen is for the I9100 and it has a yellow triangle. Whats that about?
Don't worry about the yellow triangle for now. We'll get rid of that later. And about the recovery, no. Leave the one that it comes with. If you flash a gb kernal then your phone won't boot. And the ice recovery isn't safe. And it won't be until source comes out and our devs make a safe cwm for pics. Til then, just stick with what you've got.

Going from Blazer ICS Rom to AOKP ICS Rom

I have my rooted E4GT and the Blazer ICS Rom is installed on it at the moment. I kinda want to try and switch to AOKP's latest build and try it out, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since they clearly stated not to flash from ICS to ICS.
Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should do in order to make the switch to AOKP?
Links to both ROM's respective threads:
AOKP Build 40
Phantom's Blazer Rom
Thanks for your time.
You can just Odin the el26 cwm (sorry don't have the link to it on my phone) and flash AOKP from there.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
This is my method, it is 99.9% safe. You can also re-use it to go from other ROMs to any other ics ROM.
Download these drivers
Download this: OC ODIN File for EL26 and this: E4GT Root Utility
Using Titanium Backup, make a backup of all your stuff, or use your preferred back-upper, just not nandroid. I recommend buying the Pro version, because it will save you so many times, and the dev is great. It's a little expensive though for an app.
OC Odin back to EL26. The good thing about this is, the process is straight forward, and doesn't add to your flash counter, and does not yellow triangle either.
Open up e4gtauto-sfx.exe, option C, then I. This gives you CWM, And just in case, I do not recommend using other than standard CWM to flash ICS roms. but that's me.
When your phone reboots, it should have CWM, and be rooted, just load up the AOKP files, do a data wipe, and flash.
Thank you both for the replies
Would I be able to use calkulins format all to do the wipes? Or does that only work for certain ROMS? It seemed pretty fool proof when I used it, so I was wondering if I could just use that again and it would work just the same? I don't want to forget something and brick my phone as a result
And I'll look into titanium backup, thanks for the suggestion.

Alright, but all I should need to do is install the EL26 + CWM and I can flash AOKP? I don't need to go back to a stock gingerbread ROM or anything, or will the OC EL26 CWM do that for me?
And you said you don't recommend calkulin's format all for ICS roms, but that's what I was told to use for the Phantom Blazer ICS rom when I was flashing it?
Also, one more question; what is "flash count" and is it a bad thing? I'll do some googling on it myself, but I'd like to hear your explanation because I don't always understand people's ways of describing things and usually take weird explanations to understand so yours would still be much appreciated just in case, thanks. ^_^

You just need to be on a safe recovery.... if you wipe data in an unconfirmed recovery you can cause a brick. Either use the el26 that all use or the el29-reboot kernel. Both will work no matter what you install regardless of you install (granted you flash a working rom). I prefer the el29 because you install via mobile Odin and it boots straight to safe CWM recovery.

new e4gt owner with questions about roms

i just picked up an e4gt today, i had one back in december that i rooted then sold. so im back and now there's a ton of stuff out there for this phone.
i just came over from the evo design where there is pretty much nothing happening, and before that i had an evo shift. i had cm7 installed on that and loved it.
so what rom do you guys suggest i use? i see there is cm9 available in alpha form, which has me very tempted.
im looking for a stable rom with no bloatware. and id love some advice.

Go with cm9 that darchstar has posted. It works great and I use it as my daily. After you do the base install I recommend nightly 7/24 and using the chris41g kernel b3 version with it. Great battery life and full functionality.

Does cm9 wipe out cwm?
I'm paranoid to do anything without an option for recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Here is your safest bet (as in super safe):
1. Download the el26 safe cwm kernel from the kernel repository in the sticky for this phone
2. Download cm9 6 and gapps
3. Follow cm9 6 download instructions
4. Let it boot
5. Use mobile Odin if you have it (highly recommend as it makes flashing so easy) and flash the el26 kernel that you downloaded in the kernel section from external sd...always check md5 sum first!
6. Once u see the blue light on ur phone in the LED, hold power+volume up to boot into recovery, once the sgs2 logo shows you can lay off the buttons
7. If you didn't do it in time or held too long, just pull the battery and go to recovery via power+volume up
8. You should be in cwm, flash the nightly of cm9, clear dalvik and cache, then flash the chris 41g b3 kernel and reboot
9. Enjoy
10. From this point forward you have a bomb rom and working recovery that will allow backup/nand/flashing safely.

To Install
Boot to recovery
Make an NAND Backup
Wipe the phone (with the Format All X2 script)
Flash Part 1
Boot the phone
Go to the updater (Under put things back to stock) and install Part 2 (Two part install is to finish theming Talk)
Reboot and Enjoy
When I did this I went to CWM to flash this through odin. Rom works very smooth. There is a ton of information in the thread but that should get you started.

Nandroid Restore Help

I'm new to Samsung Android phones, and new to the E4GT, so I need a little help.
I always flash the zip for the EL26 CWM5 recovery like instructed, soooo, here is my issue.
I'm running AOSP and thought I would try CM10 JB, soooo, I flashed into EL26, performed a full nandroid to my Ext SD. I flashed JB and gave it a shot. For issues known to all, I wanted to switch back
So, I went into recovery, flashed the EL26 recovery and rebooted recovery, I then restore the nandroid backup I just made, rebooted, went to the Samsung screen (with the yellow !). After some time, about 20-30 seconds, it goes to a black screen indefinately until I pull the battery.
Any ideas? I have yet to get a nandroid to work on this device. Had no issues at all on my 3D. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
TIA,

You need to flash the AOSP kernel. Well first can you boot into recovery or download mode

Yeah I can get into recovery fine, so I flashed an AOSP kernel and then my wifi didn't work.
Is it not connecting?

Nope, won't even turn on. But if I do a full clean flash of the exact ROM, it works fine.
I'm by far no expert but I'd say the kernel is being replaced by the gb recovery kernel when you flash back for your safe recovery.I personally keep a couple various recoveries so I can nandroid backup on the kernel native to the Rom and then the backup will contain the proper kernel.I think I got that right.so....nandroid b4 recovery has been my habit.
Had this issue before, minus the yellow triangle....anytime you're on an aosp rom and do a nand via el26, the nand stores the last kernel used (which is GB el26). After you restore, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash an aosp kernel, probly one from chris41g. Reboot and should he good to go.

Right, I tried that with my AOKP backup, I was able to boot. But then my WiFi wasn't working because of something to do with the Kernel I'm assuming
