So I have been helping a friend get rooted, unlocked and flashing. This is the same friend whose phone decided to croak midway through flashing lifeless a couple of weeks ago, sending him to the exciting boot loop scenario.
We used LGNPST, removed the battery, got him back up, rooted and unlocked (he is on ZV9), we get into TWRP, flash Imperium this time, all appears to go well and Imperium starts to boot. It gets through the first few screens of the boot and then shuts off again. Bootloop.
Is this potentially a partition issue? Is it some flaw in the FreeGee unlock method?
We are confused and would really appreciate any assistance anyone could provide.
This might not help, but it's something I'm starting to wonder about our phones.
Was the phone fully, or at least mostly, charged?
I'm asking because it seems most of these problems are happening to newer phones that don't have a good set of battery stats.
My only suggestion is if you can get into recovery or download mode, either restore a backup or LGNPST again.
Edit. FreeGee shouldn't be the issue, because you installed Imperium

97% charge at the start of the flash.
Last time the charge was fairly low, and that's what we assumed the issue was.,
So can you get into recovery? Hopefully you made a backup. Download mode?
Or did you get it fixed, and are just asking if partition could be the problem.

Download mode is a yes. Backup was made, I have to LGNPST tonight, but I cannot understand what was done wrong. It's the third unique phone that I have rooted and flashed on including my own and the only variable here is that we rooted from ZV9 on his phone, ZV8 on the other two. The other two remain rooted, one running Lifeless v.11 and the other running Imperium.
So to answer your question, yes, I am curious if maybe the error in the flashing of the rom is occurring due to something jacked up in his partitions.
I've noticed you haven't had the best of luck with LGOG's.
Others in the know could probably answer better, but I don't think you can mess up a partition by flashing ROMs. But even if it did, LGNPST should fix it.
Did you try to restore your backup?
We do have a finicky phone with these LG's. I know some people have had to LGNPST their phone 3 times to get root to take. For whatever reasons.
I know I'm not helping much, but I'm trying.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I think the issue here is that he is on ZV9. I had the same issue on both me and my wifes LGOG's until I did a LNGPST back to ZV8 and rooted with no issues at all.

So a hardware reset did the trick, no LGNPST. Popped it open, disconnected battery and imperium fired right up.
And for the record, I have had great luck with the OG. My friend and wife have had all the bad luck.

I have a successfully rooted T-Mobile T989 that I have been using for 2 weeks. I decided to un-root the T989 using the procedures listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830
Then installed the :
SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip
When I rebooted my phone the ROM does not appear to take at all - instead it restores my phone to a state it was in on 10/20. The phone also keeps rebooting itself over and over.
When I install the SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax.zip from recovery, it reboots 2 seconds after it says "Setting Permissions"
I have tried wiping everything, factory resetting but to no avail.
hold volumen down or up + power
go back into download mode
use odin to flash back the root
with root you can fix most of those issues
in CWR select the option to Fix Permissions
use wipe factory reset, to wipe out everything
then reboot a couple of times to make sure it's stable
once it's confirmed, then you can try to flash the un-root back into the phone
using this info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830
by flashing this file SGH-T989-Stock-Recovery.tar
Where are you located?
Right. Thats why I hold myself from rooting my SGSII until there is a proven tested method without surprises.
Screwing up your phone is easy but paying bounty to get it fix sounds to me like a self-torture. No, thanks.

If you read extensively and follow directions to a T there's no way possible you can brick your phone. I don't know about you guys but I read about how to root, how to unroot, etc so you save yourself from headaches. Some people probably jump into things without reading and that's where issues show up. I even watch videos to get an idea if I'm not too confident.

That's how everyone should do it. Its almost fool proof to do it that way. When I rooted my first Android phone (G1) it took me about 3 days to finally do it. I read extensively and watched videos etc till I built up some confidence and got the job done with no issues at all.

Thank you for the quick reply - unfortunately this process did not work. Although I have root access, when I delete a file through ADB and reboot the phone, the file re-appears. I tried re-flashing other ROMs but when I reboot, the phone returns to a state it was in about 1 week ago...not sure what is going on.
Saw the cautionary note about bounty's - I had the best of intentions but will refrain from offering them again.
Have you tried this method to unroot the phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323878 ? It's very simple, straightforward and works.

Thank you for the reply. I did but to no avail. Nothing that I write to the phone sticks. Although I have root access and went in and deleted an .apk through ADB, successfully, when I rebooted the phone (after clearing everything under the sun) the .apk re-appeared as though it had never been deleted.

You will lose all data to get back to stock unloackable. Don't cry about it if you choose to do this.
First you need to run LGNST to get back to stock. Here's a link to a great write up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082084
Then after your phone has gone through the process you will be stuck at the boot animation.
You need to have adb installed.Run
adb reboot recovery
Now in stock recovery you have to wipe everything!!!
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
reboot system
after a short period of time you should boot into stock zv7,8,9 depending on the bin you use.
I used zv7 bin to do this and waited(forgot) to wipe till after running LGNST you might be able to wipe before hand but it slipped my mind. After you do this you can wait for a JB flashable ROM or keeping playing around how ever you like.
Thanks to

Code:
adb pull /sdcard/DCIM C:\Backup\Pics

I am coming from a Droid 4 and I remember when the leaks dropped, we were taken off of the official upgrade path.
Do we anticipate that ZVB will not be on the official upgrade path to the official release, and will we need to downgrade in order to receive the official update when Sprint/LG decides to roll it out?
By that time they'll have an unlock method figured out and you'll be able to flash a new update that way.

Any advice? I did lgnst obviously thats how i got into the bootloop cause i totally forgot to wipe data and system etc. Any help would be much appreciated.
Try booting into stock recovery by holding volume down and power until the capacitive lights flash. You will not be able to abd any data out, but from there, you can clear cache and data. Starts you with a phone fresh like the day you bought it.

so I don't know how it happened
but over the past couple weeks I've had a lot of trouble with my phone
I didn't notice any issues until I flashed Skynote
it started out as just my computer not recognizing it when connected via USB
but problems have escalated further now
for some reason if I try flashing touchwiz roms 1/2 the time TWRP crashes while doing it and if it doesn't it constantly hangs up during flashing(it took me almost 1/2 hour to flash ultimate internation rom last night)
If I get a rom running the phone is constantly hanging when going through the settings menu.. or if an app is installing it will lock up totally for like 5 seconds
I've formatted thru twrp, I wipe the system every time. I've tried countless factory resets
nothing seems to be helping
anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I have faced similar issues twice after changing a rom. The only way back to stability was to odin a stock firmware on to the note II and then to re-root, re-install a custom recovery and reflash the rom.
You can use this thread to get the files to odin back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844

Try CWM recovery, not twrp....I never use twrp, , always hearing issues with people using that recovery method...Some phone's just don't like it..lol
And like Greg stated...most phones need a thorough cleaning every now and then to get the bugs out.
With TWRP its always good to have the latest version... it can really make a difference

I prefer using CWM to flash ROMs on my device. I Always had problems flashing zips on my phone using TWRP recovery. It gave me a headache that I had to use the emergency firmware recovery in kies to revert to stock and reset my flash count. Do try flashing in CWM recovery instead and see what's the result.

Hi all! I'm new here so please refrain from flaming me...
I'm no noob to flashing the rom on my phone as I have successfully carried out the procedure multiple times. However, on this occasion things didn't go as planned. I began the procedure to update my S3 via odin to the new firmware that was released yesterday, however when the process got to 'system.img' the status bar just hung in the same place (just past the beginning of the bar) for a good 20 minutes... I panicked and unplugged my phone... BAD MOVE. I now get the error message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." and the only thing I can do is put my phone in odin mode, which I did, and tried to install the stock jelly bean rom, the exact same thing happened as before...
What should I do?

I don't believe we have that for our model.
If you can still get download mode there's hope, maybe not a lot in this case, but there is some.
Try to flash cwm or twrp via odin. If successful boot recovery and try to flash a stock rom. Hopefully it only screwed up the system partition. ...
Never unplug till odin says either PASS, FAIL, or RESET. You may end up really lucky this time. If its taking a long time, just leave the room.

Wow! Ok, I am glad you got it working again, but you took a huge risk flashing that. Luckily its just the kernel aparently, but you should never flash anything from the international forum. More hard bricks have occured from flashing international stuff than anything else.

Before you do, check under the battery so you are certain of the phone model. There are 3 variants if the T999, and they cannot flash each others firmware.
Also, I don't believe you mentioned which firmware you tried, or I missed it, but which was it?
And i said it before, but do not unplug during flash. It may seem to take forever if it hangs, but it will eventually Fail out if it does.

So yesterday I traded my Nexus 7 tablet for a LG Optimus G. I rooted it, unlocked bootloader using a .jar software the trader provided me. Everything went well, but since I have no internet on my old Dell running XP, I had to use other means to flash TWRP recovery. Something didn't go right and my phone was bricked. So the guy I traded with was nice enough to come all the way back to me, and give me a KDZ file he found on the internet to restore it using the KDZ Firmware Update from LG. Took me a while to work it but it fixed my phone, only issue now is the software version in Software Information is now E97310f and won't let me update. It used to be LS970 so on ZVB. All my Sprint apps are missing, each time I restart the phone it says Unfortunately software update has stopped. In general, I'm guessing this was not for a Sprint LGOG.
Any ideas on how I can return it back to normal? I plan on connecting it with Sprint and want it to have their crappy bloatware.

Kdz doesn't work for us, for the most part.
Edit. Ooops. LGNPST is what you're looking for.

Following the thread you provided, I assume this is the one I want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40169203&postcount=1&nocache=1&z=7118741415906698
I'll try using it, but have no idea how it will revert me back to my LS970 ZVB version directly from E97310f
no good
Nothing there could really help me. And now that I'm considered a E973, drivers are a whole different story, fastboot mode seems to no longer exist, all I can do is get into some sort of useless recovery mode. This is a nightmare. This stock version is bad in performance. I feel like the device is clocked at 1.2 instead of its meant to be 1.5. What the heck am I to do?

This recovery you have, is it blue? Also another option is to go on the irc. It's in that same thread as my first post.

I'm going with that, but I have never used the LGNPST so I'm a bit stuck. I downloaded a .bin from there, grabbed the LGNPST software from a different site, and now I'm trying to figure out how to combine the two. And the recovery screen isn't like the regular "use the volume and power button" recovery, its just a white window with a two arrows making a circle type recovery that they call "Recovery Mode" and has no particular function other than to hold power for 8 seconds to reboot normally.
Okay so I figured out how to use LGNPST but I seemed to have flashed some other type of incorrect object. The bin I used made my LGOG boot up with the same fast boot and TWRP recovery as my Nexus 7 had. Aka the boot is now Google with the unlocked symbol beneath. Now when I try to flash the old incorrect KDZ file from the E97310f, no good. So my problem went from OK to just plain worse. I'm looking to find the correct teenybin necessary in order to then try to flash the ZV8's ZDK file. Now my device is really bricked with a TWRP and a locked boot loader. Isn't that sweet (sarcastically)

Also forgot to mention each time I use LGNPST the device boots at 67% leaving the rest incomplete, then shoots up to 85%. Perhaps its why the KDZ no longer works. I'm guessing using LGNPST was bad from the beginning. Should've stuck to finding the original KDZ instead.

That's just what lgnpst does. You should not be using a kdz. You should be using either zv9.bin or zvb.bin. if you're going to use Sprint. The bins are in the same place I led you to for lgnpst.

Well you were quite right in a way! Thanks! This will sound crazy, but I used the LGNPST to flash the alternative LS970 bin provided. It gave the fast boot mode, Google boot, and TWRP 2.5, unlike the last one I mentioned that wouldn't let me use the ZDK file. So what I did was I tried pulling the same trick used to push a zip file to my Nexus 7 when I accidentally wiped everything. It was a bit of a crazy stunt, but I used the Nexus 7 Toolkit 5 to push a custom ROM I downloaded here on XDA thru TWRP. I had tried before on the last bin I flashed and no good. Tried again and it actually pushed the file. From there I used TWRP to install the zip and well here I am writing this from my new ROM. The info shows LS970. The XDA app as well as you can see below. Had to reroot it using the ZV9/ZVB Universal Root as GIAO would said my device is unsupported. Not quite sure if the boot loader is unlocked though. I'll probably stop messing with this thing here before I make it any worse. Thanks alot

GAIO is outdated, but a least you're rooted. And unlocked too if you were able to flash a ROM. It sounds like you used a teeny bin to get going. Not zv9 or zvb.bin. You should be good to go.

Yeah it was all working perfectly, until yesterday where I turned it off last night as I've done each night since fixed, but this morning, no boot. Now no matter how many different roms I try to flash from it's SD card, or which different teenybin I flash, it won't fix the situation. Im guessing it's a security issue, although I did nothing really to provoke it. Any idea how to fix it or completely format everything including TWRP and the fastboot altogether?

Actually, never mind...the thing randomly decided to boot after deleting some files thru TEEPee. Coincidence is that yesterday I downloaded FreeGee, it didn't detect my device as a LS970, and it left behind a file. When I recalled that thought and deleted the file, ta da. Works fine....
