s it jst matter f apearance or sm functionality too??
AOSP > Android Open Source Project
AOKP, CM > Built from AOSP (With additional features)
Sense > Modded HTC Base Rom.
PA > Base can be CM/AOSP, depends on which version you are using.
... and many others.
Roms usually states where it originates from.
Its basically just personal preference on which to use.

Hello
I came from black berry so little confused on everything. Can somebody help me understand some of this.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
They're branches of ROM development. Different individuals and teams work on their own ROMs and distribute them regularly. They each have their own features, looks and performance tweaks that they think are best.
As a quick start, "AOSP" is the Android Open Source Project. Google maintains the open source Android code, and individuals can pull from it and build their own ROMs off of that. So when someone says their ROM is "AOSP based", they're saying that they pulled the source from Google then modified it.
And like-wise with CM10/AOKP they provide their own source code.
CM10 = Cyanogenmod team. A very popular ROM. They do have their own ROM but also provide their own source code for those wanting to start with an already modified base. As an example CM10 based ROMs usually come with certain additional features like the CM kernel, profiles, etc.
AOKP = Android Open Kang Project. As the name suggests it is also the same idea. A source code provided by a developer of a Popular ROM (AOKP) for other users to use. Also comes with features not included in the base AOSP ROM
If any of that is wrong someone will correct me I'm sure
I'm talking about the 4.1.x Sense roms like ARHD, OrDroid and etc.
not trying to start an argument but reading their description and it seems they are fairly similar to each other. as such, choosing one over the other is a good decision.
thanks!

I can't really see that much of a difference in the ROMS(Well the exception is Viper ROM because it is the most tweaked and most different of the sense ROMS), the sense ROMs basically do the same, just some few differences I think and therefore I think it is up to the individual to chose which ROM they prefer. I personally use Renovate and I like it.
Try them all
there are to me different families of custom ROMs:
1. close to stock, updated quickly after a new base is released/leaked on some Russian or Chinese sites: few tweaks mainly for battery and speed (football rom is in this category - hopefully it will be available again ). mike1986 (ARHD), baadnewz (InsertCoin), Shnizlon (OrDroid), ... tends to add apps and mods via AROMA installer but these ROMs can also be consired in the category.
2. custom custom ROM: the developer uses a custom ROM for his base (football, orDroid, ...) and provides additional tweaks or flavors (De-Sense, minimalist (NumerOne), pre-installed and tested mods (camera, sound, ...), different kernels
3. Further from stock: Venon as you mentioned is a good example but there are more and more ROMs in this category: Themed ROMs would go here too (Lextermina Abster Go, Renovate, ...)
and then the non Sense ROMs: AOSP, CyanogenMod, MIUI, ParanoidAndroid (hybrid phone tablet)...
Best is to try them

i know this is along discussed topic but as roms & kernels get's upgraded i am sure there must be like a change now that both ends have android 4.3
i want to know with latest updates on both ends (tw and aosp ) ... what to expect (adv. & disadv.) ??
iam totally new with PA but i have read reviews about previous versions of PA and the settings was amazing but when i installed PA 4 (4.4) i found the settings very different especially i couldn't find the hybird menu and other cudtomization
i want to know if some thing i need to do or this is normal in newer versions to be less customizable
thanks in advance
PA 4.0 is currently an AOSP build (no custom features) you would need to check the thread for your device to see what basic features have been add.
No builds however contain Hybrid, PIE or HALO at this time

aosp rom is the stock android that google delivers...its just pure stock android ported on your device
open semc roms are cyanogenmod roms...cyanogen gets the aosp rom and puts some of its features on it[themes ,cyanogenmod apps etc] and then one developer ports cyanogenmod on your device..... but it also offers an almost stock android experience
in my personal opinion aosp is somewhat faster and lighter than cyanogenmod[it also depends on the developer who ports both roms] and thats why i prefer it, but the difference is not this big...
I will just add that you can use a pure AOSP rom and add some features that you have on CyanogenMod, OmiRom, CarbonROM etc by using for example GravityBox (Xposed).
This is a good way to have an up to date device with some cool features
Some idea that we can find on derived AOSP code can be used by Google on next AOSP release too. So it's interesting to have both
