So I have a limit to my data usage so I keep an eye out for data usage, pets this morning I noticed that music fx has used quite a lot of data and I can't disable it or restrict it since it's an pre installed app. Is this normal? Does anyone else have this problem?

Have you tried checking the restrict background data option under Settings>Data Usage>MusicFX ?

Mobile data usage on my Desire HD keeps increasing without apparent reason and despite wlan-use both at home and in the office.
How can I determine which app/function (ab)uses the most data?
There should be a statistic for this like the one about who uses the most battery power.
Any thoughts about this?
Thanks and rgds

Thanks bigdish
I tried already different apps and widgets for counting the data volume, also the data counter widget.
However they all inform about the data volume used, separated by 3G, Wlan, Bluetooth, etc.
But I want to know which app on my phone is responsible for which part of the generated data traffic.
Use 3G watchdog. It will give you your answer.
I usually have wifi connection ,and rarely need data
but I might need to check emails, browse website and or make/recieve calls through viber every once in a while ,where the wifi is not available ,
so does 200 Mb enough for the usage i mentioned above ?
is there any tips i can do to avoid data usage on the background ,like when the phone on stand by ?what are the apps that contiguously drain the data usage?
will deactivating sync help ?anything else ?
Thanks
you can manually turn data ON/OFF with a widget
that will prevent any unwanted transaction
Yes you will be okay as long as you turn of syncing in settings.. for example Google stance and Facebook email sync while you're on 4g
sent from my real Gs move in silence like lasagna
Yes that sounds fine for 200mb. Just don't browse like.. videos or something crazy. Just make sure you turn Data off whenever you can. Track your usage hard for the first while to make sure you don't go over.
thank you guys
will turning off syncing be enough to save the data without needing to turn off the 4g data?
because I noticed if i did turn off the 4g data ,i won't be able to receive MMS
one more question
do navigation and the google maps require alot of data usage ?
my advice would be get the 2 gb data package because with the 200 mb u get charged for overages but with the 2 gb and 5 and up u only get throttled i think???????
Also use traffic watch apps like: https://market.android.com/details?...S5yb3lzb2xiZXJnLmFuZHJvaWQuZGF0YWNvdW50ZXIiXQ..

Turning off background sync should be enough.

Never tried navigation but google maps doesn't require A LOT of data usage (at least to me), but you should be careful with 200mb of data a month...
Especially you are always in the same area then every time you use google maps you accumulate the map tiles you download in cache so that next time you are in the same area google maps doesn't try to download the same area again.
Try using some data monitoring app that tells you how much you used at any time.
I'm not going to recommend any ways of saving you data but i can recommend you an app that I've been using to save me time and effort of toggling the sync and data on and off. Use "llama" and set the settings to your desire.
You can search in the battery life thread for a very good setting for "Wifi connected" and "wifi disconnected"...I'm using it now and it's helping me a lot...getting around 30 hrs battery with moderate usage. I'm connected to a wifi most of the time.
Rooted, but running stock for now. Plan to flash some roms later when I get bored.
Juice defender you can choose to turn off data when screen is off. and or allow only periodic updates. Or you can turn of 3g/4g data any time you have a wifi signal lots of choices to fit your need to minimize data use. Since data usually means battery life you will find many power managment apps will help you.
Anyone in nyc successful with the no throttling trick? Does the trick stop throttling or does it not allow Tmobile from seeing the data usage?

Occasional FB updates should not be using that much data. Are you uploading pictures? What apps are you using that use data? Maybe something in the background is data that you don't know about. Are you tethering at all?
My Data Manager Free will monitor which app is using what data. Maybe that will help.
*Edit* The problem was found to be with Titanium backup and how it reports data usage by apps after you restore it. I have contacted the developer for investigation.

So, I have Tasker installed on my Nexus just for simple automation that turns on Wi-Fi tether when my phone's Bluetooth pairs with my car stereo (which is also Android) so I can stream Internet radio etc.
I've been noticing lately that my data has been transmitting a lot when my phone has been sitting idle so I did some investigation and found that Tasker has sent over 2GB of data this month alone. This is more than I've used while tethered! I can't think of any valid reason as to why it would need to send that much data (if any at all) so I am highly suspicious of this app. Anyone else using Tasker? Can you check your data usage to see if you're seeing the same?

The POS mobile app isn't uploading pictures. I will post from my pc in a bit.

You can disable using background data on data usage settings. But really, its a weird case. Mine not using any data at all...

Unfortunately it's 99% foreground data which means I can't block it. There shouldn't be any reason for this app to send/receive data from my phone. The only other app that uses more data is YouTube which is valid since I use it all the time. Here's the pic:
OK, this is crazy.
I just went back and checked the previous months of Tasker data usage
September: 4.0GB
August: 3.36GB (date installed was August 7th)
WTF is going on?!
If I was you I would wipe everything including SD card and start from scratch. Def seems a bit fishy...
under settings..accessibility..services tasker is it on or off?
It is off.

There's some setting to disable/enable external apps from controlling Tasker. Do you have that enabled? If so, try disabling.
What kinda tasks have you configured? Anything that uploads photos or something?

Did you get install Tasker directly from Play Store? If so, might be worth to contact the developer and ask about this. I have this application running in the background for a couple of months now and haven't got this issue.

Did you Titanium back up and restore the system data for "Data Usage". Youtube, my highest data usage app turned into another random app after backing up my Data Usage from stock rom and restoring to Rasbean Jelly.

I only have 1 task configured that pretty much reads like this (logically)
When paired to BTxxx turn on WiFi Tether, End statement=disable tether
That's it.
I haven't changed any of the default settings in Tasker except to remove the lightning bolt from my notification bar. I just unfroze the app. The setting 'Allow External Access' is disabled.

I did download it from the Play Store. I have been in contact with the developer and we haven't narrowed down what the cause could be.

I did do a restore of data usage when I moved over from CNA to Paranoid so you may be on to something here. In your case, do you show any YouTube traffic as well, or has it all been shifted to the random app?
Thanks.
OK, I think I've found the problem. It appears to be a bug in Titanium backup and restoring the usage statistics.
I have also done a restore of my data use after flashing a new ROM so I did some further testing after unfreezing Tasker for a couple of days and everything appears to be fine in that there is no data use being reported.
Thanks for the suggestion Akash3656. I am going to report my findings to the author of Titanium backup.

I am looking at my data usage and im noticing a removed apps and users constantly using data on a day to day basis. Pulled the tabs to the most recent day everyday and still shows it using data for the current day. Why is a removed app still pulling data? Anyone else with this issue?

Is the data volume remains same for those apps??? If I am right even after app is uninstalled data usage remains in the system and it will show in the usage stats..if ur rooted then u can delete data usage stats....
