ive always been a fan of emoji, and i was a fan of how the emoji keyboard worked on ios. I was wondering if there was any way of installing an emoji language into the samsung keyboard (like you would do with english or Portuguese). I know some emiji are supported by android from the get go but for an unroot user like me, i havent found any way of being able to input those into text fields.
currently on stock 4.1.2 unroot w/gt-n7100
You can root. It's no big issue.

i know i know :/ but i've had the sudden death syndrome happen to me within like 8 days of getting my phone and luckily i wasnt rooted so it was still under warranty. I will eventually root. but for now i wanna stay in warranty if anything ever happens again. *paranoid
If you update to latest rom then you won't have this issue.

iOS emoji is mostly used via sms. I would recommend the easiest path of using a messaging app (I'm partial to handcent sms) that better supports emoji (color!) and its respective input method.
If you have other uses for emoji, you're mileage "stock" may vary.

Did a google search for see emoji on android and found this. I have used this thread or one that is similar to this before. While it worked and I was able to see certain emojis that people were using (not 100% of them), you are never going to get the full emoji experience as you would with IOS. After using this the emojis do not show up as they would IOS but a different icon attempting to show the same emotion. It took me awhile to do this and wasnt pleased with the outcome because I was expecting a full experience. If I am wrong, please correct me because I would like to be corrected on this topic. I hope one day we will have a full emoji experience on Android.
I know this might sound trivial but this is the only ROM I've seen with customized messaging app that includes pop up, my question is how come no one includes a way in the ROM or app to set individual contact notifications without downloading another app

First of all, I have no idea what rom your talking about. I'm assuming ANYTHING based on CM10 or AOKP code.
Second, stock android has never had custom notifications for individual contacts. And to do this someone would actually have to code it! Maybe they'll get around to it, maybe they won't. Maybe it never crossed their minds because they don't use such a thing, or maybe because there's apps for that! but for native support, it has to be something a dev actually wants to have.
Not trying to be a douche either, just informing :highfive:

I am also running CNA 3.6.0 but I do not know where the option to set custom notification tone for individual contact. Can you help me please?
Honestly no where, to achieve this you need to go to messaging settings turn off notifications, go to play store download sms popup and enable it and then find contact notifications.

MIUI also includes sms popups in the stock app
Yes but those pop UPS don't support individual notifications as far as I know

Is anyone else annoyed that you can't send a contact from the stock SMS app? I love the standard SMS but yet have to have a third party SMS app installed just for this purpose. From the stock SMS you can attach a few things but not a contact. And even from the phone app you can send but through email...not SMS.
Nothing major...just felt like griping about something I guess.
On a side note android keeps getting better and better. I don't see myself even going back to a non nexus phone!

I totally agree it's silly this is not factory android option. I can tell this is a general complaint and you weren't really looking for an app, but check this out:
share contracts via sms

it's not really an "app" it just adds the menu option to share contracts thru messaging app. you still use stock messaging. I have used this since froyo days. it's super lightweight, you'll hardly notice it's even there...

Yup, I've been shocked time and time again that it hasn't already been added since I first started using Android with Froyo.
Which is weird if you've been using dumbphones for the last 15 years I think most of them could do this.

GoSMS w/ the emoji plugin.
I heard you get a lot of spam with that app?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I get a message or two month. Usually about a new theme they've added or some feature they've updated. Nothing intrusive, or annoying and its usually just a notification in that app that is quickly deleted.
I've been using it for about a year.

I like handcent...not sure what the downsides are to handcent compared to the others. I did try gosms a while back and wasn't impressed. I could give it another shot though.
I really don't have a lot of requirements for a messaging app. I don't do groups or advanced messaging. Even so, I find the stock messaging app extremely unappealing and not adequate for my minor needs.
Handcent here. Been using it since my original Droid days I think. Just fell in love with it. The only other messaging app that I didn't much mind was the stock one on my Galaxy Note 2, but I've since fallen back to the familiar. I find it functional and customizable enough for my tastes.

Handscent here as well... with the group messaging plug-in... got rid of the Emoji plug-in due to it messing with my MMS for some reason... maybe a combination of the two... Main reason I got Handscent was the color customization to match my theme.

Default. I used to use go but it got too bloated for my liking and then they disabled backing up of sms to local storage and pushed their cloud backup.

I tried most mostly because there seems to be a growing requirement for emoji. pffft.
All non stock apps except for chomp scroll very poorly when moving and reading through the messages: go, handsent, etc. Chomp is the only one that scrolls smoothly. However, I cannot attach pics or vids - it crashes. contacting the developer said "fixing hopefully in a week" until then I just use stock app o if I need to send a mms. I'd use the stock app but its emoji is very limited. always a compromise isn't it?
Pansi SMS nice simple interface. I use my backup root to save MMS and sms

Thought I was the only one on this. I've been using bitesms on Iphones for years so I've been so used to it, so when I jumped ship and go with the GN2 naturally I had to find somethign similiar. You're right about mms though, but I use stock sms app for that purpose, so chompsms all the way.
Go sms with emoji plug in. Like all the different emojis. Also wife has iphone with ios6 and stock messaging wouldn't show pics of the emojis on her phone. Go sms shows with no problem.

Just wanted to give you guys an update. I have been using chomp sms for the past couple of days and love it. It's not as flashy as go sms is with themes but it make up for it without the constant text messages they send you. I also donated to the dev which got rid of the adds so it almost feels like a stock app. Anyways its a really great app if any of you are interested.

I'm sick of using Samsung's built in message app. It's max mms file size limitation and mms slideshow viewer are as irritating as can be.
I have tried GO SMSPro and looked into Handcent SMS, but both apps seem to be bloated with unnecessary "features" such as theming, and stores. I just want a basic stock(ish) experience. I have downloaded Cyanogen mod and Xperia mms apps and attempted to rename, replace and set permissions to no avail. It seems as if android doesn't recognize them at all.
I finally did find the stock android messaging app in a thread dedicated to the Note 2, but it seems a little... too basic for my tastes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Which carrier are you on? Because if it's att you are limited to 600kb. You could set the mms file limit size to 1 gig if you wanted but you are still limited by what the network will allow to pass through.. I haven't found a way to bypass the network limitations either pal

I feel the same way you do, I've tried so many but nothing to my liking. The Cyanogenmod mms.apk is the best but when I installed that over the stock one everything worked but it would crash trying to send a pic.
I've found one that isn't too bad, it's clean, small and fast. Try out Textra, you might like it.
