Does it have quiet time and did you turn off notification?

Open your Text app. Hit settings and scroll down. Should be one of the options.

My screen lights up every time i get a text for like 5 seconds. I use 20,000 texts a month. I don't want it to do it since it wastes battery and this phone has a notification LED. Is there a setting I can turn this off? Thanks in advance!
I searched everywhere and called Samsung. There is no way to stop this. I downloaded GO SMS and it works great with that. It's stupid that Samsung wouldn't think anyone might want to change this setting and build it in without forcing you to go third party.
I'm not sure if you mean the LED Indicator(the circle light that lights up by earpiece)?
Settings - Display - LED Indicator
I have this issue as well. The screen comes on when you get a text and is very annoying

Unless they have updated recently, I don't think that GO SMS is compatible with the smart notifications and direct calling.
Try Handcent. They have a lot of notification options.
You can turn off notifications in the sms app and use sms popup from the market.

I wonder if I turn off sms notifications but leave it on in light flow if I'd still receive the led at least.
Would the do-not-disturb like feature take care of that at night?

I am VERY happy to say that I am in the same boat as this person. My screen does not turn on by its self when I receive a text. It did on my Note I and it pissed me the hell off. I'm not sure why this is happening to some people and not others, but I am glad I am one of the fortunate ones. Funny, as I'm typing this, I just received another text and my notification alert came on but my screen stayed off.
Ok I got a modded SecMms.apk, I need someone to test so if you want to send me a PM and I will upload you the flashable zip to try before I realease it thanks

Open you phone, then hit the menu to find it in call settings. You will be looking at your phone keypad when you open the menu.

It looks like handcent is causing all sorts of issues. This isnt the first time ive seen notificstion mishaps with handcent bein g the #1 suspect

Is there a way to assign different notification sounds to individual contacts? I have the stock messaging app. Maybe through another app?
I use Handcent, which gives you full capability to customize notifications based on contact. I tend to have my phone on vibrate only most of the time, but I customized the vibrate pattern for a couple key people, for example.

Anyone ever notice if you just swipe away a new txt message in the dropdown, within a few minutes you get the same notification? You always have to open the txt message, then jump back out. I find this a pain since it tells you in the notification almost all message txt anyway. Does anyone else have this issue?

I thought so. Had a similar problem once. Just stopped randomly on a new flash of a ROM.
Can someone tell me if there is a way to stop the screen from turning on when I get an SMS as well as stopping the SMS from appearing on the lock screen? It's very annoying and I'm sure over time it cuts into battery life.
Thanks.
Msg. Setting.

Settings in message app and uncheck preview message.
Theres no way to prevent the screen from waking i dont think...custom roms only.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to wait for a ROM then.
Thanks again.
Problem is with preview unchecked you still get a box on your lock screen minus the text info. I believe it just says "message".

chomp
use chomp sms. its quite fast, more customizable than the stock messaging app and actually has an option from preventing the screen wake. i cant say for the other sms applications though, but chomp is good
I have been using Go SMS for years. I really like the customization and settings. You can turn off stock notifications and eliminate the screen wake issue.

Hello, I think I've found what's the problem : it's because of the "incoming PopUp Call notification"
There is a cool feature on Galaxy Note 3, which lets you change the incoming call notification from a full screen notification to a pop up notification. To change the call notification, do as follows:
1. Open Settings and go to Device tab
2. Scroll down and tap Call.
3. Mark "Incoming Call Notifications", so notification pop-ups for incoming voice calls when the screen is on
Glad you figured it out
I can't find it on jt neo though.. are you on jellybean?

Edit: Read it somewhere that the option has been removed from Kitkat. :/

The steps wrote above are where the option is located. I haven't updated to KK and will never, when it is out for n7505. But I don't see a point of removing this feature. It is a great feature.
Samsung has removed it though.. :/
