[Q] Motoblur'd rom update and issues - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am considering updating my gingerbread based ROM on my old EVO 4g (I am currently running Cyanogen mod 7.1)...
Its been a very long time since I've flashed a ROM to my phone, but I have been wanting to upgrade to an ICS/JB ROM for a while because (amongst other things) I hear that these android 4.0 ROMs are better when it comes to battery life.. As you can probably tell, I am not one of these folks that re-flashes their rom every week so I may be a bit rusty with this and I am a little bit intimidated. While I would like to try something new I also am a bit worried that my lack of experience may cause me to make a mis-step and mess up my phone..
The ROM I am looking at right now is the new release of MotoBlur'd, found here: .. I understand that this ROM is based on CyanogenMod 10, and since it seems I cannot get a version of the raw CM10 directly to install on my phone, perhaps MotoBlur'd is the next best thing...
But before I open up this can of worms and go off and wipe my phone and flash this new rom, I had 3 questions which I hope someone with experience can answer
1) All other things being equal, would this actually help with the battery life, over the Gingerbread based CM 7.1?
2) Is it still the case that Netflix and other video viewing apps do not work with this (or any other ICS/JB) ROM?? They mention it in the android dev thread, but no one has confirmed that these things work or not work.
3) Do I have to peroform any extra steps or install anything else (other than what is shown in the instructions) to move the phone from CM 7.1 to the latest Motoblur'd ?? For example do I need to install an ICS based ROM first before JB? Or can I just flash directly to this ROM??
Hopefully I can do this without causing too much damage or requiring too much help from the users in this forum... Of course any advice or suggestions anyone can give me would help...
Thanks

1. battery life will be worse. most likely
2. That is stil lthe case
3. Read the Guide in my signature (Evo Superguide). It'll help you a lot

Excellent guide, Hipcat... I think this will really be helpful to me... As someone who doesn't do this all the time, it can really help to have a guide like that to cover all the bases.. I know we are supposed to try to search for the stuff that we need to know, but sometimes its hard to know even what we need to know, and sometimes the multitudes of information we find is contradictory or out of date, so this really helps..
I found a broken link on it, so I posted that as a reply in your thread (I hope thats okay)...
I think I may just stick with my GB based rom, as much as I would like to monkey around with ICS or JB.. I guess I don't see the sense of switching if it won't help my battery life and if it will prohibit the use of video playing apps (which, I know, suck a lot of battery)..
The biggest problem for me is the battery life (I found several contradictory explainations on how to calibrate the battery, I will try the one found in your guide next), but mainly I believe my problem is that I have too much garbage loaded on the phone (not reloading after a year and a half can do that), and a lot of stuff loads in the background so that is probably affecting my battery life.. Also I don't think I am using the most up-to-date radio, which is probably causing the most battery drain of all... So I am going to try the following...
1) I am going to (actually I already have) upgrade my radio to 2.15.00.01.15
2) As per your, and honda's suggestion I will try to update my recovery to smelkus 4.3 (I think I am using clockwork recovery right now, although I am not sure if that is the same thing or not)..
3) I will try to re-format and re-partition my SD card and attempt to install A2SD so I can have more room for apps (can I use A2SD with CM 7?)
4) I will wipe everything, and reload to CyanogenMod 7.2 (perhaps this will work better than 7.1) and reload about half the apps I have on there now (only the stuff I am using now)..
If battery life is my main concern, is there a better ROM I should be using??? I picked CM in the first place because it was an AOSP (no frills, no extra garbage) ROM, however I haven't been able to update my PRL (havent ever updated it, probably)...
Thanks again for your response... You and your guide have been quite helpful...

Yep, I fixed that link and what you said is why I wrote that guide; because searching can be a real pain in the @ss sometimes. It's like a teacher telling you to look up a word you can't spell. Well how do you search for an answer if you're not really sure of the question?? lol

You cant update your PRL on any non-stock rom. It has to be stock for you to be able to do that

Well if battery life is your main concern I always suggest a good sense 3.0 ROM. If you are worried about bloat that can be removed. If you want I can hook you up with a rom/kernel combo with everything you want.
When I am not testing or making a new rom I use sense 3.0 and can get 8 hrs of heavy use on stock battery. Thats netflix with 3-4 hrs use plus web surfing and calls during the rest. On my extended battery with light use I can get 4+ days.
If you would like to try my rom pm me before you partion your sdcard. There are certain things you need to do for it to work right.

Perhaps I will go to stock and try to update the PRL before I go ahead and update the ROM to custom... However, this Evo is on Boost Mobile (not Sprint) network, so I am not sure how to appropriately update the PRL... Should I just update it as if it were a regular Sprint Evo 4g or does it matter?

Umm updating prl only requires the *228 call from the phone and it works on any rom. Now to put a custom or older prl it takes a bit more. Updating your profile now that I do believe you have to be on a Sprint rom but I don't have Sprint so I can't say for sure.

Never heard of that *228, so cant say anything about that
Updating profile and prl I've always seen and heard can only be done on stock, unless you use this ##codes apps I saw somewhere....

The ## codes only work on the sprint roms. To change prls on AOSP roms you need a windows pc with qpst setup and prl files on the pc. Then you have to enable diagnostic mode through adb or a terminal emulator. There is a thread here on our EVO forum to do it. I will bump it so you can check it out. It sure beats all the backing up and restoring to do it.
Edit: I bumped it. It is in the dev section.

Yeah. Theres an app that uses scripts to emulate the ##code functions.

Really? I can't believe I have not heard of that till now. Do you know what it is called? I would love to check it out.

Found the thread, thanks!!
Now I just have to figure out which PRL file to use for my Evo on Boost, and where to find it (I think this is what stopped me from updating the PRL before, not knowing if I should use a sprint PRL or something else)...
Edit: I did find this thread regarding boost PRLs on EVO
And if there is indeed an app that emulates the ## commands, I would like to know what that is...
... TPK2013

Heck if your on boost you need a boost prl. You can Google boost prls and find dozens of them. I would suggest using the latest one. Just dial *228 and it will update your prl. After it finishes reboot your phone. It is really that simple. I do it on my cricket flashed EVO but it works for every service provider.

[VZW][CDMA] Gingerbread 2.3.4 Deodexed, [Update 7-15-11]!!

Better Than LIfe
Future Echoes
7-15-11
Update #2 fr the day
Ok, stumbled across something today while trying to work some bugs.....
I managed to "inject" a recovery into the rom, and while it actually booted into recovery, and did recovery things, it even went so far as to boot the tab.
But that was it, didnt get a full boot.
So, I stumbled upon a Clockwork Recovery buy doing the right tricks i suppose, however alot needs to be ironed out. and this gets top priority this weekend, why? well ****, think about it, CWM for the CDMA Tabs for Gingerbread, and before Verizon releases GB, so this.......is great news.
Hope to have this done by end of weekend, and in doing so it might iron out the zip flash issue which means I can pump out those 2 roms.
Just wanted to share.
First, I'm removing the download link.
Second, yes I do get your PM's, and yes I do read them, and Yes, I agree....I am bad at getting back to people sometimes. Very busy trying to get GB out for the CDMA Tabs in a working fashion. I am sorry. Those of you who know me, just call, it does hurt my hands to type.
The Update.
I am yanking the download link as it is apparent that the release was/is a failure, how I managed to get it on my tab, no clue, however I cant duplicate it again.
I am working on the build, 1 for Sprint, 1 for VZW. I am trying to get it deodexed 100%, and at the same time get a VZW 3G build working.
However what is very important, that will take less time for me to flash a build to test.....is a recovery. We need a Gingerbread recovery. We do.
So I am doing a few things.....
1. doing my research on compiling a new kernal, and CWM for our tabs
2. asked for an recieved help in a new kernal and recovery
3. changing how i build these roms, no more "kitchens" or stupid "gui" based apps on Linux or Windslows that foul up the permissions, I am going 100% command line for a more effective result, and less need for revisions.
4. Working non stop through the weekend once my wife comes home from work today, so from noon today, to 3am sunday/monday I will be hard at work on all Better Than Life Releases.
I appreciate your patience in this botched release, next time, ill release a test build to a few people for a backup verification it will go without problem.
Until then, i gotta get to work.
Jim
Update..........7-12 6am
I just spent 5 hours trying every trick in the book... from extracting factory.rfs and trying to rebuild it to forcing a fake recovery... I got nothing. The problem is that ALL of the kernels that exist with CWM are ext4 froyo kernels, but the new kernel source for GB doesn't contain ext4 code... therefore, no flashy (unless by a fluke) because on reboot it tries to mount everything as rfs but it's in ext4 after you flash in an ext4 conversion kernel. I would have to design a new GB kernel with CWM and EXT4 modules in the source or revert a froyo kernel to pre-ext4 and put in a new cwm... either would take a couple of days... but I'm swamped right now. The only choice is for you to set it back up on your device like you had it and then pull a roto. Did what I could, sorry.

So, we tried (spacemoose and I) to get the extracted rom from my device to install on several others and ran across the same problems everyone else was having. however, the extracted rom being deodexed and zipalilgned, my device not.
So today I am going to try to get the 3G working, make the mods to the rom, and extract it, then try to inject the deodexed system and framework back in (which is always a ***** on a live device) and ill have no choice for now but to release a Heimdall flashable version of the rom.
I am waiting for that VZW release because with the sprint in my hands, and with a VZW version, all thats lacking is a Sprint tab to start making GB roms for both devices, however today will be a different story.
Oh, I did get TW4.0 to slightly work on the tab, itll either be released later, or maybe in an alpha build. I found it....well interesting. I tried it on the Psirens Rom (I have a TouchWiz4 version of Psirens) but it was way to damn buggy to release.
Ill keep yall posted today. Painpill time
Verizon wants to take their time, fine, screw them.
Gingerbread 2.3.4
Based on the Sprint update
Deodexed
Zipaligned
a little de-bloating
added CDMA/3G Verizon (3G with Verizon right now is a 50/50 shot
Kernal included in flashable zip
Just drop on SD Card, wipe everything
flash
enjoy
I am running this on my daily driver Verizon, to test and work bugs out and get 3G fully working, so expect alot...ALOT of updates and new versions of Gingerbread for Verizon.
This will be a constant updating project. So please expect bugs, and this is a last minute slap together thing tonight.
Enjoy.

Is this any faster/snappier than the stock SprintGB? I just finished getting it working on my vzw tab and it took me a while to get set up. Is it worth switching?
And btw thank you for all the work you do for the CDMA community, we greatly appreciate it!!

indeed I'm lookin for the phone*.apk of VZW GB. is there an update of VZW?
Awesome, am giving this a try now.
Couple of questions:
1. Is this ext4?
2. Can we overclock with this kernel?
Thanks, this is huge for us suffering VZW tab owners!
When trying to install I got an error...something along the lines of, "error at line 11, can't symlink"

My "solution" was to just flash the Sprint rooted rom, which works with the VZW tab (not sure about 3g, though, I just use wifi anyway).
Would love it if we could get an ext4 and overclockable kernel working w/ GB for the VZW folks.
Going to download this today. This is almost more exciting than hcomb . I am glad someone is working on a vzm gbread rom.
Thanks Oldmacnut

Yeah, I'm sure something was just missed when oldmacnut compiled the zip for us. He'll get it worked out soon enough just hold off for now until there is word from him.
Getting the error as well. I am using the Sprint GB ROM in the meantime...
Oldmacnut can you give us more info on your custom ROM? I am assuming you have it rooted but the Sprint ROM is 190M while yours is 360M. Just wondering what kind of bloatware you removed and what if anything has been added to account for almost 2x the file size. Thanks

[Q] We Can Now Dual Boot With Boot Manager App!!!

Disclaimer: I didn't create Boot Manager and am not affiliated with the developers in anyway.
I didn't see anyone posting this yet so I figured some of you might be interested.
There's an app on the market now called Boot Manager that's 2.99 and allows you to dual boot up to 5 roms. You still have your main rom which is stored directly in your phone's memory and then up to four more that are stored and run from your sdcard. Because you're running secondary roms from your sdard those may not run as fast as your main phone rom but my preliminary testing has been pretty good.
Boot manager is simple to set up and use and requires no special skills. You don't even need to partition your sdcard.
All you have to do is put whatever roms you wish to run on your sdcard and then install them through Boot Manager. Initially setting up the roms takes maybe 15 minutes but once your done you can boot back and forth very quickly, much faster than doing nandroids.
Enjoy
Update: I'm now running 2 AOSP roms Kushdeck's 1.3b2(main rom) and SalvageMod 1.4 and a Sense rom SynergyRls1 and haven't noticed any major issues. Gps works on each rom as well as 4g. Synergy does have some lag and for this reason took some patience and a little longer to initially set up but it works decently for running off of an sdcard. On a side note I've heard claims that Synergy does have some lag issues running normally.
I plan on ordering a better sdcard with a faster class rating such as class 4 or 6 so hopefully this will decrease lag but overall I'm very impressed with Boot Manager. If nothing else this gives you a chance to test drive roms without having to go through the whole process of replacing your daily driver.
PLEASE READ: I've reached out to one of the developers of this app who's from XDA and asked for his help in answering the problems some of you are having. I wish I could help more especially since this a paid app and you guys deserve to have an app that work. Below are the links to email support through the app website as well as the one of the developers Conap who's from XDA. Maybe if they receive enough emails they will shoot over to this thread to help.
Sorry I can't help more. All I can do is verify that it's working on my Evo but don't have enough advanced skills to do a lot more.

Alright, this looks really great. Love the idea. Just wondering for those who have it, since there are different kernels associated with each ROM (going from CM to Synergy) would you have to go back in and wipe battery stats? Also, would vipermod carry from ROM to ROM or would you need to set it up for every ROM?
How much room on the SD card would you need to boot 5 ROMS?
edit: quite a bit of room, have over a gig on sd card and can't load synergy. Have to do some cleaning later. Wish it could import nands, that would rock.
edit 2: cleared room, installed synergy on slot 1, rebooted, hanging on evo 4g screen..... bah
Im trying this now. I have Mikg as my phone rom and installing miui as a test. Will report back when I do some testing on kernals and battery life.
I'm getting error on editing boot.img when trying to install salvage.
Edit: even though this is an app, someone move it to the dev section. Needs more attention.

Good question. That confused me first also. You only need to do wipes if you're installing a new rom over an original one in a slot. If the slot is empty you don't need to do any wipes.
I can't address the other problem since I'm not technically proficient enough with the app yet to give you suggestions. Sorry
To flash gapps just install the rom but don't reboot install gapps over the rom in the same slot.

Try doing it again or try another rom. My first tries didn't work either. Also as I mentioned above the developer says this doesn't work with all roms yet.
It takes a while. Since it's booting from your sdcard it's not quite as fast the first time as when you normally flash a rom. Mine stayed on splash screen for a little while to the first time I rebooted. Also try another rom just to see if that works for you.

It does not work on my evo. tried everything but it errors out while finishing building the rom.
Their description does say which phones it supports and EVo is not on there. They probably wont respond to any evo users (at least according to their description, since its a non supported phone).

What do I need to know about rooting an Epic 4G?

Work just picked up a bunch of Epic 4G's. Battery life is horrible. I want to calibrate my battery so I'm wondering what the best root method for these phones is.
I currently have Gingerbread 2.3.5 on this phone.
I've also got a Epic 4G Touch, that had one click root, looks like these don't?

There is no one-click solution for Gingerbread. You would have to Odin EC05 for that. Here is how to root Gingerbread stock phones:

Is there a un-brick method is something goes wrong?

If you mean sponge or soft-brick then yes in the Stickies at the top of Development. It requires using Odin or Heimdall and your current data will be lost.

There is a more "pain in the ass" process of rooting your phone if your already on gingerbread. I will link you to some videos that should get you going.
You WILL need ODIN to get rooted. There are ways to root your phone without it, but ODIN makes things alot more simple. ODIN will become your best friend, trust me.
First, you will need to follow this step...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwFRzzIqouE
Once you have done that, you will need to move onto this step...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWOLEXqAeCc
Of course, use the latest version of ACS Recovery, which can be found on the link to that video.
Once you have completed those steps, you will be rooted, running ACS Recovery Version 5, or ClockworkMOD Recovery 5.0.2.7
Hope this was helpful.
If you run into trouble like it gets stuck at the Samsung screen for more than 5 minutes, you can return to Froyo stock and OTA back to stock Gingerbread and try again. Here is the thread for that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
You can also PM me with questions once you get started.
I just flashed my first ROM (CleanGB) on to my Epic4G and reset the battery statistics. Along with using TB to freeze the DRM and SNS apps, I'm seeing great battery life. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site!
Its not hard hahaha that's what I'd tell you anyways its really simple if you can get Odin to com its all downhill from there. Just thought I'd give you some encouragement since you've already been given directions. Never be afraid to root the epic is nearly impossible to brick.

My stock cable works fine. Grab Odin as it is an all purpose life saver. Are you planning on rooting and using custom roms or just using root apps?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The stock cable worked fine for me when I rooted my Epic, too. I used the Rooting EI22 Gingerbread Instructions from Android Central, and fortunately it went very smoothly. It was my first time rooting my phone, so I was glad I didn't have any major problems. As noted above, you'll probably want to substitute one of the newer custom recoveries in place of the one in those instructions though. I thought I'd offer these text instructions (with screen shots) as an alternative to the videos posted above.
Regarding use of ROMs or just root apps, I actually rooted mainly to get the GPS and silent camera fixes. I'm probably going to want to use a custom ROM though, but am still currently on stock rooted EI22 (with those two fixes applied). I'm slightly concerned about getting all my apps and data back if I install a new ROM. I've got backup apps (Titanium Backup, non-pay right now, and MyBackup Root), as well as a nandroid backup from what I've read advanced restore of just data is possible, but don't really know what's the easiest/smoothest way to get things back. I might want to go with the MostlyStock ROM, since it probably changes the least amount of stuff, or something with a non-wiping version (I've seen at least one, but forget which it was offhand). Tips on how to make moving between ROMs while keeping apps and data easy to restore would be appreciated. Thanks!

The hardest part, for me anyway, is picking a ROM to stick with. Right now I'm addicted to trying out as many things as I can. Right now I'm running ThunderHawk but I'm sure that will change soon. I will tell you I haven't have a lot of luck with ROM management tools. ACS updater doesn't seem to have anything new, installs from ROM toolbox don't seem to work, ROM manager has worked the best for me so far.
Get a BB cable trust us when we say your stock one will go south on you at the most critical time! I use my stock for charging only. I have read many of stories on here where the issue was the cable. If you don't have a BB cable laying around check amazon out $1.97 plus shipping. I picked up 4 a few months back I keep 2 at home one in work and one in my laptop bag.

quick question about gio gt-s5660M

Just wondering if someone could clarify about this model over the rest. Am I limited to rom's just made for the M model then? or do the normal roms I see like the cm7 ones in the development section of this model work on the m model?
Check this out. It might of some help to you.

Hi I have the "m" model as well and I haven't had much luck with the majority of roms made for the euro version of our phone. Darkshado had made a ROM called ArpegGioMod ROM that is made for the m series and works quite well. I use his ROM and I'm quite happy with it versus the stock ROM.
I flashed cyanogenmod 7.1 on my phone using Odin and by leaving out the phone package which seemed to work pretty well, but after a day my phone could not connect to the network to make phone calls or use 3g so I flashed back.
Let me know how it works for you. Thanks.

Gio s5560m Stuck data mode deactivated.
Hello all,
I bought a Gio M about a month ago good phone and happy so far. Problem I've had is 3g is OFF ---> power button- Phone Options menu - Network Data mode is deactivated. Push to turn ON and stays deactivated. Go into system, network, and yes data packets is checked on.
Phone is stock no tweaks no extras, did a clear cache and reset phone to OE spent 2 hours with tech support on Virgin canada and Samsung. Virgin blames phone, Samsung Blames virgin 3g network.
My question is could the phone have a bad firmware flash from factory it came with 2.3.4
I am going to go back to Best buy next weekend and see if I can test with another gio. If 3g works on test unit then I'll send this one in for repairs I guess.
Any other suggestions?
Did you try another Virgin SIM? That's one thing I'd look into.
Also if you're in the Montreal area or in the GTA (I'm not sure where else) there are Samsung Service Centres you could take this to.
Show up in person and have them diagnose the problem. You might even be able to wait while they work on it if you have a bit of spare time.
2.3.4 is the proper version number for the stock ROM on the 5660M. No updates so far.
Gio s5560m no 3g
Have not tried another virgin sim. I do have a spare that came with the phone spose I could try it although its sealed up in the packaging still.
Live in northern Alberta and the nearest city with virgin phone sales is 2hrs away hence the wait to get fixed. Surprise surprise Samsung did not phone me back today like they said they would either.
Found one other post on here of a fellow in Norway with no 3g can't enable or disable but no answers on his post to the problem. I'll wait till the weekend and go to the city and see if Bestbuy has an activated sim they can put in and try.
Thanks for the help and I will update when I get it figured out.
i had the same connection problems, try going back to your stock ROM and take note of your APN settings, once you flash back to CM you'll notice the rom made several changes!
changing the APN settings back to stock, fixed any connection issues i had
hope i helped! (i'm using CM7.2 RC1 B1 KANG on my BELL 5660M)

Problem is I am using the stock rom, the rom that came with the phone is the one giving the problems. Sending the phone back for "repairs" and we will see what comes of it.
I'll keep you all updated.

I'm new here and I tried to read all the information to get a good idea around flashing the S5660M. I also have the bell version.
I'm going to put down the steps, if anybody can give me pointers or correct any mistakes. That'd be great, I want to put CM7.1 or 7.2, whichever one is stable enough for all functionality to work. Speed is not an issue as I am giving this phone to my grandpa who needs a chinese language display system which Samsung didn't include in the original ROM.
1. Root phone
2. Install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Reboot into recovery mode, make backup using Nandroid? I heard there's other tools that can be used. I'd like to backup the original ROM.
4. Download the desired CM from recovery mode onto SD card
5. Delete cache and wipe data
6. Choose the new ROM to be flashed and wait
I think that's the general idea, is there any key steps I am missing?
Sorry again for asking but I want to make sure I got the correct steps for S5660M.

Some people mentioned titanium backup. Which one is better? nandroid or titanium backup to save up the original ROM?
Also, is Universal_GB_ROOT_v2.zip the best/safe way to root a S5660M?

[Q] How do I improve battery life ie what tweaks work?

I'm using Snipers PACMAN, and battery just seems to drain way to fast. It is the latest push. Being newly registered on here I hate to introduce my self this way but I need advice. What tweaks are being used by people for the SPH-D710 to help with this issue? I originally started with the CM 10.1 rom and found I had no data, flashed a different modem. Still no data, switched roms and now have data....go figure! But the battery drain is killing me, I've got it throttled back as far as I can go and it still be a daily driver. So anyone have any suggestions?

Most 4.2 Roms use ICS modems. As for battery us betterbatterystats found here on xda or gsam in the play store to determine if there's any rogue apps keeping the phone from sleeping. I also do manual syncing. Greenify is a great app to keep apps from running on their own. You can also use a custom kernel to limit max frequency and even undervolt. Kernels also come with different governors

After reading through the above posts you should have some useful ideas about what this governor does.Also...as for installing a governor, they will be included in the kernel that flashed with ur rom or a kernal of ur choosing(MAKE SURE IT WILL WORK WITH THE ROM YOU HAVE) Im new to this, so if there is another way I dont know about it. Do ur research... As for setting a governor.. There are many roms with built in performance controls as well as many apps to set them. I suggest (set cpu) . It has a setting that will make a zip so u can recover from ur settings if u bootloop. This is found after u install and give it root permission. Hit ur menu button and click SAFE MODE. Hey bro, easy on the tone. Because there are so many ways to ask the question, the best way is to just spell it out how you did above. Battery life depends on the apps/ROM/user all at the same time. I am on Project X ROM. It has Crossbreeder installed. Now I am not no where informative about that app other than a lot of people like it. So with that being said and it is installed on the ROM, I leave it. I also have ROM Toolbox Pro. I have adjusted my CPU control to 1000MHZ. I also have DS Battery Saver Pro set to custom and to kill all apps when the screen goes off. Last the ROM I am on comes with Greenify. A great app in saving battery. I also turn off data and only have WIFI on when I need it. No need to just let things run. With that I have had 50% battery life left after 11 hrs. That is my setup and may not work for you. The main thing is to understand that battery life for EACH phone is different no matter how many common denominators people may have. Team Venum did a comparison of ROM's and their respective battery life. I don't know the post, but if you type "battery life" in the search, then I am sure you can find it. As for you response, I was in your shoes at one time. It does help to be specific in your questions. Not saying that you weren't. Reading each and every post will get tiresome, but if you type in what you want in the search, you will get a slew of post to get info. I have only been a member for 4 months, but I have learned how to flash a ROM, Mods, push and app, setup custom home screen. I have even been given the honor of testing a ROM. If you still need help, you can PM me and I will do what I can. Have a great one.

Thanks Gil, this is exactly what I have done.
1. flashed from 4.03 to WILD-FOR-THE-NIGHT-07052013-d710, had no data....tried to find a fix for that...gave up after trying tweaks to help with the battery issue and no data.
2. Clean install of d710_PAC_JB_4.2.2-v23.0.0_20130719-015400, now have intermittent data, wifi works, blutooth works, flashed Fl24 modem with no apparent improvement in data connectivity, thought after reading a kernel flash might fix issues, here comes the boot loop....flashed smdk4412_p4 waited patiently for 2hrs watching Pacman chasing ghosts.....booted into recovery and ran my backup tried it 2 more times on clean flashs gave up after 5 hrs. By clean I mean wipe/reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, install from zip.
3. this is how I installed the kernel:
Make a backup
Download .zip to PC
Transfer .zip to sdcard
Reboot to recovery
Flash
Phone automatically rebooted after install
waited and waited......boot back into recovery. restore by backup.
everything has been done with CWM based recovery. I'm stumped....frustrated to no end......

First off...I have had the lzp_4 boot loop on me. I pulled the battery, waited about 2 min. Put it back in and booted to recovery. Then I wiped cache and dalvik. Rebooted and it took off(booted fine). I have no idea why or how, but this worked for me. Now to my main concern. If you came straight from ics to a jb rom I think this is going to cause you issues, if you hadn't been on jb before. I suggest the one - click full restore(it wipes data,so back-up you're internal memory). This will get you're phone partition right for jb. After this. I think you should be able to flash what you want with no problems. I didn't see a problem with how you flashed. Wipe cache and dalvik on the kernal flashes you do.Here's the link for the one -click..
go to linked page and click on download ota at top of page
I would read through the page it sends you to well.Don't forget to thank those guys..Hope this helps.Hit me up if it doesn't.

The carrier should not matter if you are on an E4GT phone. But if your trying to go to a JB ROM, you will need to aupdate to GB** for your phone. For sprint it is GB27. Have you tried RWilco12's repository to see if your carrier is listed? Also QBKing77 has a lot of videos concerning this specific phone. How to flash specific ROMs and upgrading specific build, modems and such. Something has got to work for you.

How to flash specific ROMs and upgrading specific build, modems and such. Something has got to work for you.

Well now I'm stuck on Sprints 4G boot screen just keeps looping.....WTH.....I've never had a phone be a pain like this....guess I let it kill the battery and see what happens. Recovery is there, not cwm so can't even restore my backup. I'm just frustrated by this phone! Gill, bigmike any idea which way to turn now?

What ROM did you flash? Was it ICS or Jellybean? What carrier are you on. That was never revealed.
Never kill the battery. I sed you tried" Wild for the night" and Pac something. Can you get to recovery?
