So it's been 4 months now and I still have not found a solution to this mic issue. Here is a video I recorded lastnight at a club. You can hear the tinny-ness and the distortion breaking up. Iknow Iknow......I KNOW, "It's a phone, what do you expect"? But I've been spoiled with my last Samsung Galaxy S4G, with Voodoo Sound on board .It allowed me to adjust the recording level. It seems like everytime I ask about Voodoo Sound being available for our phone, people assume it's because I want the audio OUT features, but actually I want the mic preset controls. Supposedly irig was coming to android at the begining of this month, but it's 24 days late, so far
I don't see much mention of the mic issue on xda, so maybe no one cares. But I figured I'd ask if anyone has a solution thus far... or any roms with it ported... or kernels that are compatible?
Thanks everyone!

PS. I don't know this band,,, it's not selfless promotion
There are a few ROMs that have voodoo compatibility. I know vanilla rootbox does, its AOSP, in the AT&T section. Tweaked might be adding it in the near future as well. Tweaked is TW based and an incredible ROM.

I wanted to know is it possible to get voodoo on the G2. I'm on gingervillain (yes i know it's outdated) and it doesn't work on that. Will it work on another other rom? Thank You
wait voodoo? I really hope you do not mean the one for the galaxy s.
If it is the one from galaxy s no, no we cannot use it. What that voodoo does is changes the system memory to ext4 and some other sound and color fixes specific to the super amoled screen on those devices and speaker (for voodoo sound you can use dpsManager and color should not be needed). The reason it works on the galaxy s devices is that they use a much slower memory. I believe gingerbread by default uses ext4(do not quote me on that as I am not 100%sure just heard that some places) and for certain on some roms ext4 is default such as tun4f1sh's bulletproof miui to name one but are on much more. If this is not the voodoo you are looking for I just typed this out for nothing.
PS. I probably missed something here but just so you know desire z has nowhere near the same amount of lag as the galaxy s (i know i came from one never going back)
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure what voodoo was. I was reading a review for Power Amp and someone said it sounded great with voodoo sound. When I googled it I read a few people said they got it to work with the G2.
They got it working with g2 curious... i dont see why you would need that since it does not suffer from the lag of the galaxy s ... hmm might check that out... but that just sounds weird
Anyone care to point out if i missed something because that seems fishy

Yeah...Just like the title says.
Because i tried custom roms now but i found that the official rom had the best performance so i don't think that it's worth using a custom rom now.
Unless you guys can recomend a good rom with the same performance or better?
And will there be an official CM? (because i read somewhere that there were some issues with the exynos cpu documentation)
My brother said that Official CM is being merged in a few days.

I'm on the latest PA nightly built, haven't run any benchmarks yet, but it seems to me that performance on games it actually a little bit better (at least definitely on the new nfs game). And there's some big update coming kernel/drivers wise that will increase it noticeably (so I've read).
Cheers.

Mmm, the camera is a kernel problem, there's a patch to solve it, and audio wise, well, the routing of sound from the mic of an external BT headset is not working, that's a known issue, and I'm having of shuttering audio when I listen to music with the BT headset I [email protected], not but not on the car, so I guess there's something going on with the emitting power that makes small receivers struggle keeping up with the signal.

Where can I find this patch?
What bugs me the most about these threads, is the fact that many users obviously don`t know how to use the search buttton anymore or are just too damn lazy to do so. Common sense also seems a problem, as you could have known 4.2 for the Note 2 will be released first quarter 2013. After the first official has been released develeopment will start and the CM team wil start right after the scource codes are beeing released.
I got my replacement phone (from insurance claim) today and all three callers say that the call quality is much better than usual.
I'm wondering if I had poor call quality on my previous phone because I flash about 2 ROMS a month or because it was dropped a few times.
I planned on rooting and flashing Jedi Jelly today but now I'm not too sure.
If I'm being too paranoid just call me out but i want to be cautious.
Could have been hardware or software related. The best way to get a for sure answer is to make a backup and flash a rom. If you get bad results, restore the backup.

I also got a replacement phone today in the mail and I have noticed that the manufature date is january 2013! which means the phones are very new. Mine is made in china, its possible that the parts they are using now are the same model but maybe something is different inside. The factory probably uses whatever parts are available and i too have notice a much better gps signal indoors so maybe now the s2 has some newer guts.
where is the manufacture date located?

Thru my experience, I had echo problems on the majority of custom roms... especially jb roms. After about 5 months of flashing just about every rom, I went back to an ics rom (infamous to be exact) and have had no problems since. At one point I went back to stock unrooted and experienced no call issues and amazing battery life. Infamous has done exactly the same thing for me that's why I'm sticking to it.
Btw, I'm not knocking on any of the devs here as their work has always been greatly appreciated so hopefully I didn't offend anyone.

Skyrocket-based kernels do not work well. AOSP/CM-based ROMs all have problems with SGS2 talker quality, far-end listener echo, or both. AOSP/CM kernels that use H0tcakez, kko, or ASDK kernels fix the echo problem. The SGS2 talker quality problem can be fixed by setting Phone -> Settings, "Noise Suppression" to ENABLE. After setting Noise Suppression, you may have to reboot if your ROM settings don't seem to stick. While there definitely has been progress, there is more work to be done.
poor call quality
Issue: poor call quality (muffled, cloudy, foggy) after I flashed my phone from ICS (4.0.4) to JB (4.1 or higher). The original ROM that came with the phone had the best quality.
Attempted:
Flashing: ATT-SGH-I727-UCLL3-STOCK-odexed-cwm.zip :: worst quality, cm-10.0.0-skyrocket.zip :: bad quality, cm-10.1-20130221-NIGHTLY-skyrocket.zip :: bad quality, ATT-UCLF6-cwm5.zip :: OK quality, ATT-UCLI3-odexed-cwm.zip :: OK quality, I727-UCLF6-071212.zip :: worst quality. I wiped the cache, and data. I even wiped the dalvik cache. Other times I did not with the same ROM.
Radios: I tried different Radios (UCLI3 & UCLF6) and did not notice a difference in call quality. Even with the original ROM was loaded, I flashed the Radio (UCLI3 & UCLF6) and not notice a difference. I believe the Radios are not related to the call quality. Is this true or am I missing something?
Settings: I disabled noise suppression, in the versions that supported that feature, which made the quality better but not as good as the original. I also disabled the extra volume feature, in the versions that support that feature, and that also made the quality better but not as good as the original.
Info: I have a Samsung S II Skyrocket (SGH-I727) and use AT&T. The signal strength seems consistent no matter the ROM is loaded.
Currently, besides my original ROM – which is the best call quality, the ATT-UCLF6-cwm5.zip & ATT-UCLI3-odexed-cwm.zip have the best call quality. Can anyone recommend an Android 4.2.x ROM that may have the best radios and/or kernel to alleviate this issue?
Thank you!
Great post! I was going to start flashing today but after seeing this thread I'm going to hold off until the official Jelly Bean from Koodo or Telus. I thought that all ROMs would interact with hardware in the same way! I enjoy the call quality I currently have clear and crisp. Thanks All!
Could it be an issue within the kernel not the radio?

After upping to P.A.C. 's 4.2.2 I wa told by someone (who I could hear perfectly" that they were having a hard time understanding me.
Noise Suppression was ENABLED, trying it disabled now.
Having searched around, and read this thread (thus the quotes) I've realized that advice can vary a fair bit! haha.
Well see what happens.
Not about to go back down to that old school ICS Telus is offering here in Canada. Took ages just for that and doesn't look like anything else is coming anytime soon.
EDIT: Noise Suppression was ENABLED by default. I disabled, called a friend and was told it sounded bad. RE-ENABLED and called back, was told it sounded good. Reboots in between each change/call.
Even if enabled maybe switch of, reboot, switch on and reboot?? Worth a shot anyways.

hmm I'll try this then post if working with me as well
ok the call quality is much better,I disabled the noise suppression then re-enabled like you did with reboots every time,I'll testing with other calls i hope problem solved because i love my AAMOD rom the only thing i changed was the radio from t989UVLI1 to T989UVLI4
I'm glad I searched for this thread and found people with similar issues. I rarely carry on long phone conversations, but when I do, I'd prefer the other person not have to strain to hear me. The call quality issue that I run into the most is "you sound distant/quiet" and people generally asking me to speak up when I'm already talking awkwardly loud to try and appease the issue. An iteration of this call problem has been persistent for me in every ROM/Kernel combo since 4.1.2 build bases. Heck even CM10.00 stable had problems for me. Some people say the Cerux Kernel helps but I've yet to see that ring true. I've tried the enabling/disabling noise suppression, with reboots, and still the problem exists.
I hate to switch from a solid build strictly because of call quality issues, but it is extremely annoying having to repeat myself or speak really loud for someone to hear me.
Hopefully this gets more attention and resolutions in the near future as I'd REALLY hate to go all the way back to an ICS based build. Too many new features I've grown accustomed to.
idk if it was just me but my calls have always been choppy on stock rom.
Currently using Embryo 6.8, stock radio on Koodo, incoming calls are crisp and clear, no complaints on the other end, usually a landline or Rogers phone. Usually the second question I ask the receiver, do I sound clear...always yes.
Consistent call quality complaints with 2 GS2's...
I got a second t989 thinking my phone was messed up. Rooted the second newer model and it's got the same call quality complaints. I could deal with just about any issue not working except call quality. Can't believe this isn't fixed yet.
I'm also speaking of 10.0, not 10.1.
I just don't have the stomach to flash radios and kernels etc to find a fix. Hopefully a stable 10.1 will fix the issue.

Since in the section specific for my phone, isn't a good thread like this (didnt find it, if it exists), I'm posting here.

On which Kernel are you? Maybe I can find one of the same developer, for my phone.
Is it just me or does the call quality seem to be lower on aosp roms? I have ran a couple and it seemed the same for them both, as compared to touch wiz?

I felt the same way when I switched from stock TW to CM10.1. I'm curious to hear if others feel the same way.
Well, the thing is they're based on versions of Android that are not yet available for this phone. So the developers are creating functionality from scratch is some cases.
I believe it is a bit unfair to compare a Sprint overlay (TW) that has a monster development team being paid to developers who give their free time to offer users a taste of something that may never be offered by Sprint.
There is no need to create a thread like this, if you don't want to run it. Don't ... move on to another ROM.
Just say'n
I'm coming from the S3 where the ROM scene is frankly quite pathetic, though it's steadily improving.
How's it with the note 2? Are there any major bugs with the popular ROMs? And how's the S-Pen support in custom ROMs?
Thanks a lot!

I'm new here at GN2 forums (ignore the post count, I've been lurking since 2011), but I just recently came over from GN1.
I'm guessing the architecture isn't vastly different, as I saw plenty of features ported to the GN1 from the GN2 back when I was there. So far what I have observed is that there are fewer ROMS here, this is owed to the phone being newer. Also, the roms being cooked here seem relatively stable with a lot less bricking.
As for recurring problems, let's hope some veterans can chime in on that, but I haven't noticed anything major (wifi works, no sudden dials etc). All in all it feels like a very fresh scene with ever-improving innovations, not even a year old so what can we expect right. Your have a GN2 or you just curious?
I'm taking a guess and saying it's even worse here regarding "movement". There's not much left to do, anyway. It would be lovely to have proper phablet interface support in stock-based ROMs, but... Well, it's pretty much "stable" here. Maybe It'll change for a couple of weeks after we get our hands in the official 4.2 ROMs due to next month.
No major bugs. In a few, there's one obscure Wifi-to-gadget or another that no one uses that doesn't work, but it depends on the baserom it is using - you see, Samsung's original comes with those bugs. In AOSP, you should expect a little worse battery life, since we don't have Exynos's sources. But they are still pretty nice.
S-pen is supposed to work with all Stock-based ROMs. There's a nice little app called S-pen Helper if you are not using the stock Launcher, but I don't remember right now if it works with an AOSP-based ROM.
It's a somewhat boring scene here, but we have all of the must-have stuff, like less-bloaty Stock, a few ROMs (many of them based on S3's work, by the way), CM, a few KANGs, and ParanoidAndroid. I had more fun testing stuff with my long dead Motorola Defy.
ok both GN2 and GSIII have the same hardware, so the most important thing in development in my opinion is the kernel development, and here you can have whatever you have with gs3 kerenel, and and about roms, i think you also can have the same experience, keep in mind that what above posters said that there are no more things to do now incase of stock roms, and aosp, only we are waiting a strong build of tablet/phaplet rom without lags (there are good ones out there but needs minor improvements), so i think you will be fine here, the only one thing that may be slow here is porting other OS, it will be faster incase of SG3,
How can you say the scene i pathetic??? Build your own Rom and then say something. You all need to learnd to appreciate other peoples work.

I would say it's more than decent. Sheer volume might not be mind blowing - but we have stable AOSP ROMs, plenty of excellent touchwiz ROMs, etc. - so yeah. Major touchwiz ROMs are near bug free - and AOSP ROMs have some minor bugs like with Camera etc. IIRC - other than that it's all fine.
It's worse than the S3 yet it hardly matters. This phone is a beast out of the box. Many users are happy to run a rooted stock rom with the xposed and/or simplistic frameworks installed. I am one of those people.

A stock, unrooted Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is better than a custom ROM based Samsung Galaxy S3 actually.

Couldn't agree more tbh. Obviously it's tenfold better if you're rooted with custom kernel - but stock was absolutely fine for most parts on Note II.

1. Its a best ROM thread.
2. Would it kill you to look in the Android Development forum if you wanted to know what development was like? I think my IQ dropped by 20 points just by reading the first page of this thread.
