I wanted to try a few custom firmwares on my GT-N7100 Note 2. So I rooted it, installed CWM, backed up original firmware, tested a few roms, restored original.
Problem: Regardless of what I do, I can not restore flash counter to 0. Triangle Away will always leave it at 1. Kies refuses to deal with the firmware as it considers it to be a custom. I have tried several guides on the net, but no luck.
I read somewhere that you might have to download your original firmware in order to be able to reset the counter. When I call *#1234# at this point I get:
AP: N7100XXDMB2
CP: N7100DDDLK6
CSC: N7100OXXDMB1
This is Finland (belonging to Nordic countries). What firmware do you recommend me to restore? I have googled but not found any firmare with all of AP, CP and CSC the same.
What would be the best way for me to restore the phone into original unrooted state?
i m in the same boat (i have a n7105 international), need to 'unroot and back to stock recovery and original firmware' as im returning it back for warranty.
if someone can tell me if the following are correct or not:
My current status:
n7105 - hong kong origin
-CWM recovery & on a custom rom
1. so do i need to flash CWM recovery back to stock recover first?
2. do i need to use triangle away to reset counter to the lowest (lowest is 1 i think, i could never get it to 0)
3. use the 'unroot' option from SU or from Exyno?
4. then do i flash latest stock rom (for my phone origin) via odin?

I am on the exact same rom and this is what I did (this is my version tho, thus follow the steps closely):
-1 Reflashed the N7100XXDMA6 Rom again so that the phone will be unrooted.
-2: Download and flash via odin CF_auto root by chainfire (your phone should be stock but rooted now).
-3: Boot up, download and install Triangle away and run it.
-4: Once it reboots after you wipe the counter try to co straight to recovery mode, if youre not fast enough follow step 5.
-5: Start it up in recovery mode (volume up+home+power key).
-6: -wipe cache
-factory reset
-wipe cache.
7 Reboot the phone.
Note afaik resseting the counter only works on stock rooted kernels.

My quote from another thread. Just ignore the rom version, just use yours and it should do the trick
Thanks Matzone!!!
i actually missed this post until just read it now.
I already did what you outline, and it is exactly that!
so somehow we should have this as sticky lol:

Hi,
I am newbie for Android and this could be silly question.
Is possible for me to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 with original stock rom (international version N7100) and no root?
If possible, could you write down steps that I need to take?
Yes, I did search the forum but it doesn't comes with step by steps?
Reason is battery drain too fast especially at night.
I had the same problem... You must be rooted first to do it...
Download the correct firmware (http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/)
Install MobileOdin (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=en_
Copy the tar.md5 file to your external sd card
Open Mobile Odin and flash the stock rom. It even has an option to root it without effecting the status. My phone is rooted but it still says official. Then use TriangleAway to reset the counter to 0 and you're good to go.
You dont believe you have to be rooted at all, I did this last night, the way I did it was went into stock recovery, factory reset and wiped cache, rebooted, turned off, booted into download mode, connected to pc, opened odin and flashed stock 4.1.1 simple as. It did get stuck once on samsung logo I left it for about 10-15 mins, went back into recovery and wiped and factory reset again, rebooted and all was good and now Im back on 4.1.1 so far its been off charge for 3 hours or so and its only gone down 1% it would have been around 8-10% on 4.1.2 for me
I wasnt rooted before, was on stock 4.1.1 then upgraded to 4.1.2
Absolutely possible. I just did. Steps are,
1- Make a batch backup with Titanium first, on your 4.1.2 ROM.
2- Flash the stock 4.1.1 ROM via Odin.
3- Root it.
4- Go to recovery and wipe data, factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache.
5- Now you've 4.1.1 fresh ROM, install Titanium and restore all missing apps and system data.
6- Now you've a fresh 4.1.1 ROM with all the data and apps.
'Continously inputted' from my GT-N7100
Jujuburi said absolutely correct, why you need root to simply flash stock rom.
Just to add.
After downgrading as described by jujuburi above, your device still will have new bootloader and that won't downgrade by procedure said above and so you have to re root with cf auto root or one of the CWM recovery, exynose abuse apk won't work.
Downgrading bootloader is needs different method and no need to describe here as it is not recommended/required at all.

Okay, that mean if I dont root is 100% i cannot downgrade it to 4.1.1?

It's only a temporary root. Once you load the tar.md5 in mobile odin you have the option to keep it rooted or not. Just simply keep the box unchecked and you'll be good to go. If you're not rooted right now root it with cf-autoroot to keep your status as official on 4.1.2 then install mobile odin and finish the steps.

????? Your guide isn't the easiet way at all. The OP didn't say he didn't have access to a pc? And flashing stock roms via odin doesn't raise flash counter afaik?
Also your link to odin is a paid for version which isn't required.
+1
Absolutely right
-No root needed to flash using Odin, neither flashing stock ROM with PC odin raise flash counter.
hi guys
a have the same sleep drain issue with 4.1.2 and going to odin flash 4.1.1 but do i have to wipe data/cache ? and if so do i have to wipe b4 or after the flash ?? thx
It is not compulsory, but in many cases during downgrading, after flashing ROM device may gets bootloop OR stuck at samsung logo. in such caes you need to do it.
But i do prefer wipe always after flashing ROM for better performance, you can do it after flashing.

Hello all,
I have been reading, viewing videos etc for past 4 days. and have asked questions on youtube to people but no one replied now you are my BIG HOPE..
i have an international version unrooted galaxy note 2. I dont have much details about baseband etc as i never jotted them down before upgrading. But i do have details now after upgrading to 4.1.2.
Baseband- N7100XXDLK7

I am downloading N7100XXALJ3 N7100DBTALJ2 from dr.ketans N7100 all in 1 old rom posts of 4.1.1 Oct 2012 as thats what i cuold find for DBT germany firmwares. Is that right one........???????????????????????
like others i upgraded to 4.1.2 and have been facing battery drain problem. first of should i wait till samsung comes up with fix in next update or shuld i revert back to 4.1.1.
I read this post as and it is so confusing-
Battery only lasts 1 day so want to go back to stock firmware 4.1.1 and want flash counter zero and everything legit. one member said root is needed then other said its not. then dr. ketan in the end say just to go back to stock root is not needed and just flash with odin and it wont increase counter as well if flashed with odin pc. is that right that we dont need root to just go back to stock 4.1.1 as he said.?
---------- Post added at 09:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:24 PM ----------
Now i am confused as i have multiple options suggested by all in this thread--
* If root is not needed should i just download 4.1.1 (enquired about the firmware N7100XXALJ3 N7100DBTALJ2) and flash it with pc odin just like bradmax 57 said and keep it all legit and will i still get OTA samsung kies updates in future..?
OR
* Should i root my phone first using cf-auto root with method given in your N7100 all in 1 forum and then flash 4.1.1 with mobile odin and then remove triangle away once and for all.? if we go this way obviously phone will be have full root access with limitation of not being able to flash zip files from pc (but will be ok with mobile odin for that) and cant use nandroid backup and restore - i am not fussed about these things but want my phone to be legit for warranty and do need future updates OTA and from kies.?
Also do i wipe cache, factory reset from recovery before or after flashing 4.1.1 as bradmax57 had to do it twice before flashing as it was getting stuck at samsung logo but on the other hand dr.ketan suggests to do it after flashing 4.1.1..
Kindly help.
Thanks in advance for your precious time.
Here i giving clear answer and you should not have any confusion.
-No need to have root to flash 4.1.1 with Odin
-after flashing, you may stuck at samsung logo, in that case you have to reboot to recovery and have to wipe cache and data
-I don't recommend to downgrade, as latest 4.1.2 having SDS fix, on 4.1.1 you device can be brick without any reason. if you have battery issue, download latest MA6 ROM , not necessary you will have to flash DBT ROM, you can flash any country ROM and whenever your country get same update, same way you can flash that ROM with Odin.
First off a big big thank you to dr.ketan, mazdamiata and jujuburi who assisted me and cleared confusion. I have down graded to 4.1.1 easily and see a massive battery difference already. All i had to do was download stock firmware for my phone csc region and flash it with odin. wipe data , cache in recovery mode as it did get stuck on samsung logo and its all good. no root needed and flash counter etc remains untouched as well..

So you're saying we can flash a different rom to our phones without it breaking? I find that hard to believe. Why would there be different firmwares then from samsung? I need TTT firmwares, so I could flash any DMA6 firmware since mine isn't available yet?

dr.ketan said csc doesnt matter. if we flash rom of different country. the rom has kernal, csc information. the only thing is we will get ota or kies update of that country whose rom we flash. rest i wouldnt know lets wait for a word from dr. ketan or some one on this

You can flash any ROM of N7100 to your N7100, that is that simple.
I never seen a case of bricking by just flashing stock ROM. just selecting own country ROM will help you for better language support, and some priority/selection of application for your country on play store when you search OR google suggest you. You can flash any country ROM which is latest and still not available for your country.
Hello,
I’m looking for some guidance on getting my phone back to completely stock.
Steps I’ve done:
I have re-flashed back to the stock image using Odin. After doing so I wipe/reset. I then had a flash count of 8.
I then used Chainfires method and flashed with Odin to root device, which only installs super SU. I ran triangle away and still had a flash count as one. So I ran triangle away again and clicked the box that disables superSU for an amount of time. The rom went back to official with no flash counts.
Here is where I ran into problems. I ran super SU after seeing I had no flash counts to unroot the device. As soon as I opened superSU I got a flash count back to 1 again and could not update device from original firmware. I tried several different times including full wipe reset after I unrooted with superSU.
So what I did was re-rooted device using odin and install triangle away. I ran the exact same things as before by disabling SuperSU in triangle away and I was back to the official rom and no flash count. I then disabled superSU in manage applications and removed any notifications (force stop).
My phone was able to download the update as it recognized the stock rom, but then when I attempted to install it my phone it did its normal reboot for install and said install failed custom binary etc. Checked and again I had a 1 flash counter.
Possibly where I messed up?
Things I can gather or maybe I’m wrong. I downloaded stock image from Samsung. It was a TAR file. It is a 4.1 file. In addition I know it was for the T889 for T-mobile. Is there a possibility that this is the wrong file? Is there something else I should be flashing to phone with the PDA in any of other slots? Recovery file? Why when I attempt to run superSU unroot does it add a flash counter?
I do not have my original stock image. Phone T889 T-Mobile.
I’m usually pretty good at this stuff, but have run into a rut. I want to return my phone to completely stock and get OTA updates.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!!

If the main goal is to go back to stock to get official OTAs, I'm pretty sure the binary count bit doesn't need to be a worry. What has worked for me is to
- factory reset/wipe data (can do this using custom recovery or just the official stock recovery actually)
- ODIN factory image (I tend to DL them from sammobile)
At that point I had no issue grabbing OTAs - not sure if this helps but I hope it does

I downloaded from sammobile as well. Do you download the factory image and install on phone or do you flash the factory image from ODIN.
I should probably clarify I'm trying to update phone by clicking software update. When I click that currently it states. Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available.
This is why I've been going the triangle away superSU route trying to just install the original stock firmware, click update and receive the latest version.
Here some additional info on my kernal and build. I'm not sure if this is possibly wrong?

I used ODIN - and the info looks fine. I had no issue getting the OTA from UVALK8 to UVALL4 using this approach, though is there a particular reason you want to go the click-update path? I ask because sammobile has a factory image of the most current version (UVBMD1) as well... might be a plan B at least.

I plan on giving the phone to my better half and buy new note 3 eventually. I feel that if I can click and have the phone update I know everything works and wont have to touch it again, while if I install the latest then on the next update I'm unsure if it will update having to flash the new stock rom again.
I love custom roms, but it requires lots of work keeping them up to date and can have various issues that I dont want her to deal with.
I'm wondering if I should try to flash a different stock recovery rom?
Here are 3 separate roms I could install do you have one you would suggest?
cant post the link but its from stockroms dot net
Do I need to install stock recovery on my phone? I guess I thought I just needed to install the factory image. Can you flash stock recovery on Odin or where do you put this into equation?

I should clarify the factory images are from note2root DOT com
Going to keep trying to reflash: Just did it again and still keep getting a binary account right after I complete the Full unroot.
Why does it go from official to custom after this last step?
Following Chainfire
If you want to unroot for some reason :
From stock rom and root by Chainfire method all you need to do : Triangle Away app ,SuperSU / setting/ full unroot. Reboot into Recovery / Factory reset.
From custom rom : reflash stock image via Odin .reroot by CF auto root, reset counter with Triangle Away App,SuperSU/Setting/Full unroot . Recovery / Factory reset.
Can find stock firmware from here

or make some kind of full and complete backup for me to restore?
If it is rooted, you could flash a new recovery ie TWRP, or Philz, which you can use to create backups, just be sure to tick all the boxes of what you want to backup. And if you're not happy with CM, you can restore the backup. I believe that you can flash the stock recovery through Odin, but I have never needed to, so I'm not 100% sure. If you have anymore questions don't be afraid to ask, I just might not know the answer .

thank you
hello, I bought this i747 in its current condition. I know nothing about its history.
when I power it on it goes to the phone, !, comp screen saying firmware upgrade encounter an issue, select recovery mode in kies.
in the top corner it says:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
WARRANTY BITS: 0
BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 2
Now when I connect to kies and run emergency firmware everything loads on kies, then gives an error, and
underneath BOOTLOADER RP SWREV: 2 it says: SW REV CHECK FAIL: Fused 2 > Binary 0 in red.
If this phone fixable? Any help would be appreciated.

Did you say it was recognized in Kies but firmware recovery failed? If so, and you were using Kies (not Kies 3), we may assume the last system update was not older than Android 4.1.1. I'll suggest you try these steps (in that order),i.e. if one doesn't work, try the next step ..
1. Try booting into recovery mode and doing a hard wipe/reset
2. Download the correct stock image from the thread below and flash via Odin. If you need help with flashing via Odin, please let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 or visit Sammobile.com to download the correct stock image.
3. Open Kies. Do not connect the phone yet. Go to Tools => Firmware Upgrade and Initialization. Enter your phone model name (SGH-I747)=>OK and serial number. Check device information inside the battery compartment. Wait for firmware download to complete and you are prompted to connect the phone and follow the rest of the on-screen instructions.
4. Contact the vendor to find out what they did wrong and see what refund options you have
Ok, so I also wasn't able to get into recovery.
I decided to flash cwm via odin. After it flashed the phone rebooted and turned on normally. I have turned it on and off like 5 times and everytime it boots normal.....But, there is still a problem... baseband version is Unknown and there is no IMEI Number.

Oh, it's 4.3. Perhaps even better because you may be able to flash the 4.3 restore image. Your baseband/modem is corrupt or missing which is why it's showing the no baseband message.
Please see the thread below for the complete 4.3 stock restore image. Download the stock restore image and flash via custom recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Or you may just flash the 4.3 JB modem via custom recovery since you have custom recovery working. The modem zip can be found here ...

Can you try flashing custom recovery via Odin and then using custom recovery to do a stock restore to 4.3 following the instructions in the following thread ...

I suggested custom recovery and not custom ROM. The idea is to get your phone back in working order first. Flashing a complete stock restore image should do it. Please refer to the thread I forwarded earlier. You should be able to flash custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP) to your phone via Odin and then use the custom recovery to flash the stock restore image.
