I have used both and loved both equally. But I want a cleaner and faster ROM, so which is preferable?
For me OD is faster.

thanks to the best opendesire
opendesire is fast and stable my friends. and the best rom on market thats what i think
Have used both and personally find DeFrost is my favourite but it's all subjective in my opinion. Whichever you choose you're going to get a good rom supported by a good dev.

Maybe it's just me but I feel that there is better support for OD than DeFroST. My questions on OD get answered fast without the need to bump them. While in the DeFroST thread, I have to bump a few times and then I won't get an answer sometimes too.
Went to bed with 59% battery, woke up 9 hours later finding that it's dead. And that's with OpenDesire. Recommend DeFroST atm matey/
Defrost all the way to go, imho
Regards
I've had DeFrost since I got by Desire back in May sometime. Switched to OpenDesire yesterday for no real reason. It is a bit cleaner from scratch. In other aspects, they're quite the same in normal day to day usage.

I've used pretty much all releases of both roms, deFrost has always been the most stable.
Dunno if its my fault, but going to bed with OD at 70% and finding it dead next Day isn't much fun but seems to be faster and more stable. But i have to look what's so Battery draining.. :/
I love both and switch between the two depending on the current release. Both are outstanding ROM's...
For those who are experiencing poor battery life in Open Desire, Perhaps there is a process hogging your CPU cycles. Get the app "Android System Information" from the market, go to the Tasks tab, and go menu -> Sort by CPU Usage. "android.process.acore" (there were two of these) was taking up 100%. Once killed, overall usage dropped from 40-ish% to 5%, and battery life was somewhere in the vicinity of 4% lost in 6 hours. I don't know why that process every now and then takes up 100% of my usage -there are threads about it scattered throughout the various forums. When I was using ADW Launcher, the problem was much more common, such that when you added or moved or removed a widget, the problem would arise again. Launcher Pro has given me less problems.
I suppose I'm just saying - see if killing android.process.acore fixes your battery life. (i realise if it does do anything that it may only be a temporary solution.
Josh.
i find both OD and DF almost the same. Open Desire feels much original in every sense, where DeFrost does now take things from others like Cynogen. But thats ok as one cant develop all things by himself.
2 things i really really miss in both of them though is,
1) friend stream widget
2) FM Radio
Both are good and it depends on which one you try and wanna keep on ur device. But yes both looks the same, performance wise i find them alike,
Make a Vote thread then : )
Tried both and switch between them a fair amount. At the moment, I prefer Defrost because it deals with activesync better than OD and I use that for work e-mails.
Neither is very good at displaying the correct contact pics in the launcher pro widget to be honest. I also found that OD was force closing the facebook app.
Defrost is a clone of OD and has been since v2.6, there is no difference other than Defrost having more apps.
DeFroST all the way. OpenDesire is only there if you want to wake up the next morning with no alarm and finding that your desire have gone walkies to it's grave because it died.

Hi, I am currently using Launcher Pro and Widgetdroid on my HTC Desire HD. I don't think I'll need HTC Sense for now. Is there a way to disable HTC Sense? I have a feeling its taking up lots of battery when its running together with Launcher Pro. Does it actually or I am just bad at battery management. I use juice defender and Android Booster. I might have gotten the settings wrong. Is there any other better suggestions? Please lemme know thanks.
head over the development section, there are tons of ROMs with HTC Sense launcher removed and replaced with launcher pro.
Hey i'm in the same boat as you and using Launcher Pro instead of HTC Sense. I would give your phone a restart after you've made Launcher Pro your default and that way HTC Sense isn't running in the background. I have a Custom Rom installed and generally get about 1 day and 17 hours of battery life, and thats with 3g on, wifi on, surfing the web, gaming. I personally wouldn't use any sort of Task managers seeing as the applications are closed automatically after a certain period of time when not used.
Am i correct in assuming your phone isn't rooted with a custom rom? If it isn't maybe you should consider rooting your DHD. I use to have quite poor battery life prior to rooting. Just about got 10hours out of it.
Try looking up on the net about your ROM tht your running.... I am using the latest LeeDroid ROM on my desire HD & using the recommend kernel & radio, I use to use an overclocking app but not anymore I find with this ROM, kernel, radio & Launcher pro plus I have a better battery life.
Try these tips -
1. Only use Bluetooth, wi-fi, gps, mobile network when you need it
2. Turn auto brightness off, set it as low as possible & only change when needed
3. Flash the recommend kernel & radio for your Rom they will improve your all round usage & battery life of your phone
4. If using a overclocking app don't overclock or underclock too much, this will drain the battery faster!
5. Task killers are not worth using, just keep an eye on what is earring up your battery with a system app & if you find a battery killer app just uninstall it & use a different less draining one
6. Charge your battery to 100% when flashing a new rom, cause some roms delete the battery cailibration.zip file! Just d/load the battery cailibration app from the market charge tour phone to 100%, flash your rom, reboot, charge back to 100%, leave for 10 or 15minutes after at a 100%, thn let your phone drain to 0 thn recharge to 100% your phone should now know the correct battery cailibration & you should notice the difference in battery life
Hope this improves your battery

From a full charge I get a battery drain while sleeping of about 1-3% drain & thts on about 5-7hrs, then my phone goes for about 10+ hrs with some mobile data usage for checking Facebook, Twiter, Xda & Tapatalk. With plenty of txt messaging & a few short calls here & there! My phone is running LeeDroids latest custom rom, kernel & radio. Much better & faster than when I was unrooted & using the orig HTC sense rom!

Hi, which section can I find the contents to root my phone. You are right my phone isn't rooted. I was planning to root and install HTC Sense 3.0 rom and then run it under Launcher Pro. Do you reckon its a good idea?
It seems to me that everyone in here has rooted their phone and is using LeeDroid rom. Where can I find it ? Thanks
Rooting has been made pretty easy these days. I did it on my first try. Also just as a warning there is always a slight chance you might brick your phone so make sure you read up on everything before you try any of it. I personally spent a couple of hours reading up before i tried it.
Once your rooted you can choose from a variety of Custom Roms for example Leedroid, Android HD, RCMIX etc all of which provide excellent battery life and differnt features. So it's up to you to pick which one you like. I personally chose Leedroids Rom.
This post will tell you how to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076&highlight=how+to+root
You might have an upgraded DHD in which case you need to downgrade first so check this link out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
And this is a link to Leedroids Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
Keep in mind you won't obviously be able to use it until you've rooted up your DHD.
I'm not an expert at this so if anyone else can add to this please feel free to help out our fellow DHD user.
Also this is just to get you to start reading up. I'll start reading up myself to give you a walkthrough.
To start off if you could please give us your Software Info. You do that by menu > settings > about phone (at the bottom) > software info..and just type out whats there please so we can tell you if you need downgrading.
I've just read through it. Seems pretty straightforward and it's the same pages I used when i rooted my DHD. So first downgrade if you need to. then follow up on the first link i posted. and just go through the instructions.
Any problems just post it here.
I will get back to you tomorrow thanks
Hi, if you root your phone you can remove sense by flashing a no-sense script in recovery (if you read the rooting guide you will know what recovery is). The no sense script can be found on the first post in the Android Revolution HD thread in the development section or there is a no-sense++ script in the themes and app section.
NOTE: THIS WILL COMPLETELY REMOVE SENSE. but it can be restored by flashing your Rom again.

Hi, sorry to get back to you so slow. My android version is 2.2.1... What other informations do you need?
solution:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > HTC Sense > Clear defaults. Now when I click the home button it will ask me what interface I want to use (the Android default, usually called "Launcher" or "Home", or the HTC Sense).
Hi folks,
What do you consider to be the best, fastest, most stable, battery saving, whatever Sense ROM for the Desire atm and why?
Simple question, but there are so many GB 2.1 Sense + some 3.0 Sense etc. kinda ROM's out there that it might be interesting to see which one is clearly XDA's favourite and why. What is the difference between all these ROM's and why do you use the one you flashed?
Any answers/input is highly appreciated
Feel free to discuss...
There is no best rom at all. It depends on personal preferences. Just test.
Oh great another best Rom thread to add to the other 100 already made.....

I will recommend AcesMod007, it's very fast, stable with good battery
i would thoroughly recommend insertcoin,
i have been running it for the last few weeks/month and so far i am very happy with it,
the only problem seems to be 720p video recording lag and also it stretches videos in portrait mode but they come out ok when played on pc,
apart from that i get no lag at all when using the phone, battery isnt as bad as people say and the sense 2.1/3.0 mix is rather sexy,
all taht said i would also recommend to try out a couple of roms, just remember to take a nandroid backup and revert back to a previous one if/when you wish,
Mine is surely not the best. But you can give a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210178
I am on AcesMod007 (not 3d) and am also constantly searching for fastest sense rom (but must be very stable).
Previous rom was rcmix 2.0 - a GREAT rom, actually perfect for me, but I could always use less lag (esp. when scrolling), and that's why I am now trying AcesMod007.
I still cannot say it's much faster than rcmix, and it lags a little on the lock screen. On remix, lock screen never lagged (I use the normal - wallpaper one) Scrolling is much better, though.
To the future "Oh no, another best rom thread" remarks:
I like to read these threads and find them very informative. I am sure that many others do, too. Just don't join, read or reply if you don't like them. And roms are constantly evolving, especially for our beloved Desire! So a fresh start every now and then is really great imho.

Hi Sudkcoe,
I'm also on the .v32 of AcesMod007 (not 3d) and had the lag on the lockscreen too. Also had it in .v31
Today I tried the little update from PlayPetepp which pretty much eliminated the lag prob.
Check out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16641755&postcount=1485
If you look further in the main post it'll tell you where to copy the 3 files to.
Hope it help

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies so far. I am currently on LeeDoird GB 3.0.8.2 and I really like it. It is fast, stable and together with SetCPU and Juice Defender i get easily 3-4 days of juice out of my desire
However, no Sense 3.0 And not sure how long this version will still get updates cause Lee starts focusing on his HD port and other devices...
So thats why i thought a best Sense-ROM thread might be useful, especially because there's lots of movement/developments recently and lots of ROMs look pretty similar but are so different when you flash em: So keep the feedback coming
I am still looking for my perfect Sense-ROM ^^
LeeDroid 3.3.3 HD. I've just come from AcesMod007 (v29) and have seen battery life almost double, fantastic stability, no FC's or anything. I'll be sticking with this for some time methinks.
I'll definitely check out the HD Lee Droid sometime soon. However, reports vary from awesome to a little buggy so i am not sure what to think of it yet...
I have two friends who too were on Aces007 move to this and they confirm my findings, it's extremely stable and battery life is massively improved.

I had 3 days and 8 hours on battery and like 20% left. During these 3 days, as i already stated, i didn't use it a lot except for some calls, sms and the active email sync (once an hour). I even listened to music for 5 minutes...so believe it or not. Why should i bull**** here
If you use it normally (including surfing, readings newssfeeds, listening to music) i still get 2 days easily.
I have tried most sense Roms including insertcoin, acemod but I have found sense 1.9 ROMs the quickest and most stable.
Teppics Rom is very good but the best is leedroid 3.0.8.2 as it does not lag at all.
I'm on AceSMod007-3D atm. Its all works surprisingly well and there is very little lag when simply moving about the homescreen. There's been lag with some widgets apparently but i only use weather and mail and they both seem fine. Also don't use the system restore in it. i did after screwing up my contacts and it screwed up all the A2SD+ stuff, had to uninstall and re-install all my apps to free up space on my internal again.
I use Insert Coin at the moment after using CM7 for a while.
I have seen a good improvement in responsiveness and battery life, I get through the day most of the time, but battery could still be better.

Hello All,
I been a rooted HTC Desire user for quite sometime and my missus dislikes this very much because every month I will be stuck at my computer searching the XDA forum for my ideal ROM.
I know it is all down to personal preference and I have done a fair bit of searching before starting my own thread. (Also I have less than 10 posts so its a good start)
What I want in a ROM is fast and smooth as a prio.
Good battery usage and Stable.
Possibility to use a ext3/4 partition.
Not so import:
I love the ICS look and launcher but having used ADW Launcher and GoLauncher I prefer to just have a launcher built into a ROM. This made me find MildWild 4.3 and 5.0
I been using Oxygen 2.3.2 for quite sometime at the moment and never really had any problem apart from the very occasional soft reboot (Where the home screen reloads and welcome message appears)
So I tried MildWild 4.3 based on Oxy which so many people praised where the first thing I did was go into Spare Parts viewed battery history and BAM, Force Closes. So tried a full wipe but this still kept happening.
So I tried 5.0 but for some other reason that I cannot recall I was not getting a long with this (I think the lack of T9)
So yeah, what do people think would be ideal for me? I been watching Sandvolds work for sometime and even used the ICS rom but I would prefer a fully stable ROM that I can use day to day and take pictures of my family.
Sorry for the wall of text but hopefully people can give me their opinions. :highfive:

Just flashed MW 5.0, nice performance so far. Only thing that crashed was the Cynogen mod settings but I presume that is because it was modified by MildWild.

The cyanogenmod settings under settings? It shouldn't crash
The battery tap under spare parts, yes, it crashed on mine also and crashes on some roms. So not to worry there
Sorry about replying, I know it's been answered but just clearing that up
No, the Cyanogenmod settings are great, always have been when I using CM7.1
But when you dive right in under the System and Update Notifications, but when I looked in the development thread it seems MW stripped out that feature
Didn't need it anyway.

You install a different custom ROM exactly the same way you installed your first custom ROM
- Make sure the ROM is compatible with your device
- Nandroid backup
- Remember to full wipe / factory reset within recovery if changing ROMs
- Install ROM.zip....
There are guides everywhere over the internet as to how to do this in case your forgot. Google is still your friend even if you are a teenager
There is no such thing as a battery saving ROM. Battery life is mostly dependent on your individual usage and how you use the device/
Whenever you have battery issues, it always makes sense to use logic first, to try and understand what is using your battery according to the laws of physics. Apps like betterbatterystats or wakelock detector will tell you if you have any bad apps keeping your phone awake.
If there are no suspsicous apps, it's likely that the battery is simply too old and worn if it's the original one (which would be ~4 years old by now). A new battery would be a better option. No amount of changing ROMs or kernels etc will make a difference.
will you suggest any good and stable rom for htc desire??

Your home button generally needs to remain in place. Because you need to get home a lot
To turn on the screen, you can find a ROM with trackpad wake, I believe most have this built in, check each ROM thread first post, or search the thread
To turn off the screen, use a widget on the homescreen do the same thing
You can install whatsapp and candy crush on basically any rom...even stock ROM
