Phone Will Not Boot When Charging (CM & Derivatives) - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I power off my phone with it plugged in to either an AC or USB power supply, the battery icon appears but the loading circle just remains on the screen indefinitely and the battery charge level never appears. Seemingly related to this, if I try to boot up the phone by holding down the power button then the screen just goes blank followed by the battery icon with the loading circle reappearing. Even if I pull out the power supply, the battery icon and loading circle remains on the screen and the phone still won't boot.
Thus the only ways to boot the phone once the power supply has been plugged in is to:
a) Remove the battery and replace it
b) Boot into download mode and select reboot at the warning screen
c) Boot into recovery mode and select reboot
As stated in the title, it only applies to CM nightlies and derivatives. If I flash back to stock firmware the problem doesn't happen anymore. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there is any solution or workaround whilst still remaining with a CM based ROM.

I have the same problem with my Note 2. I unplug the charger, hold down the power button for a few seconds until the battery icon goes away. Then I hold down the power button again until it boots. Then I plug the charger back in.

its rare

Apologies for originally posting this thread in the general section.

Ok thanks yeah that works for me too. I think its probably a kernel issue seeing as download mode (bootloader), recovery mode (different kernel) and stock firmware (different kernel) all boot OK. Unfortunately Cyanogen don't accept bug reports for CM nightlies, even when there is no other version available.

[Q] Phone won't turn on! Vibrates and Green LED only

morning guys/gals,
last night i put my phone to charge, woke up this morning and turned on the screen and it said "no sim card detected, reboot device". Now when I rebooted the device all I get is 5 vibrates and the green led light stays on. Screen stays blank!!. I tried battery pull several times, tried vol-down + power but all I get is the vibration with the screen off and the led on.
When I hook my phone to the laptop I can't access it via fastboot/adb, it shows up as "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" with a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I tried forcing different drivers on it (e.g. adb composite, bootloader) but none let me access the device via cmd.
Now I got clockwork, running latest android revolution 2.0.8, device is radio-soff and eng-soff.
What am I to do now? Is there possibly a hardware fault? If I cant get to access to the device to restore it to stock, I'm going to struggle to get the device replaced, isnt it?
any help is very much appreciated!!!
What ROM were you running on it Prior to this happening?
was there any apps running in the background?
the Vol - + Power should get you into bootloader, if you cant get into bootloader I would be tempted to say fooked, and take it back to the shop as they wont be able to boot it either,, but thats the defeatist attitude...

ok very strange, I was playing i around with the phone, now if I pull the battery and connect it to the usb cable the light went red instead of green and it automatically booted in clockworkmod (thanks to the "bug"). vol down + power didnt get me there so once I was in clockwork I thought let me wipe battery stats (eventho I wiped them when rom was freshly installed). I thought the device is unplugged but the green light stays on (after full charge), maybe battery issue. Now after wiping battery stats I'm able to boot the device again.
Thats weird but hey atleast my device is back on track. Either faulty battery or some software bug, either way if anyone experiences a similar issues (phone wont boot, just vibrates 5 times and green led), just pull battery, connect phone to usb cable on your laptop or wallcharge and clockwork should boot up, wipe battery stats and u should be fine
You gotta love that ClockWorkMod recovery image
Hi
I had the same issue yesterday. After one hour of stress(I have DHD for 4 days), I finally find out solution which worked for me:
1.) pull out the battery from phone for at least 10 minutes.
2.) connect phone to the charger.
3.) pull battery to the phone and wait
4.) after orange light recovery should boot up.
5.) wipe battery stat.
6.) enjoy your phone again.
Hope this will help to somebody .
May I know why such incident occured?

Thanks for your reply! this worked for me, allmost.
I did however had to press the Power button ONCE to start the phone.
- Plugged in charger, pulled in battery, (orange light was turned), then after 25 sec I pressed the Power button - and Voila! My Phone started as normal.
I diden't need to do any "Wipe battery status", but after reading about it I did it anyway. It was'nt necessery though in my case.
THanks a lot you guys for your replys! I thought for sure my phone was dead.
try sptool to format your phone except the boot loader then try to flash the phone, if its not working then change the mother board !!!!!

Really stuck!

I think I'm screwed!! I get stuck on the android boot screen and when I pull the battery I can't get into the recovery by pressing the down volume + power!
This happened after I flashed the circled battery patch on ARHD4 B2. I was experimenting but failed.
Now I can't get into CWM Recover (3.0.0.6).. I mean when I press the - Volume and the power button when the phone is off nothing happens!
When I press both volume buttons and the power I get few vibrations and green LED (even though battery is near empty). <--- What phone state is this? (might be unrelated)
Any idea how to solve this?
EDIT: OK never mind! Fixed it!
leaving the boot screen till the battery is dead and plug the usb and power on.. and forces it to CWM recovery

Booting into download mode when powered off

My daughters Note2 (gt-n7100, fully stock) reboots itself into download mode when it gets switched off. It goes straight to the 'downloading... do not turn off target' screen. If the phone is powered down from this screen, it just comes back on again to the same screen. The only way to restart is to either hold vol down + home + power which then gives me the option to cancel, or to hold vol up + home + power to enter recovery and boot into system from there.
Also, it won't charge from completely flat (most likely because any power management can't start because of the above issue?), but does so if it's switched on.
These problems seemed to spontaniously appear with no system changes.
At first I thought it was maybe the kids messing around with it and the phone was expecting to be updated so reflashed stock everything via Heimdall. The problem persisted so I tried flashing TWRP and LineageOS (both succesfully) but still it goes into download mode when powered down.
Anyone any ideas?

[Help thread] Htc not charging or turning on

Greetings everyone i have an issue with my htc m8_ul, so this is what happend
Got the phone from an old storage but did not work after pluging in the charger it would go straight to fastboot and non of the options worked after taking the charger out it would hold a small charge and stay for about 30 minutes.
After trying all sorts of things like installing official RUU with the same versions over USB but failed, so i've read on one thread to try over SD card and thats what i did and it worked without an issue, official rom installed like a charm everything was super ok no errors whatsoever, after installation phone said to reboot to complete installation and thats where everything went wrong my phone never turned on after rom finished installing, now when i plug in the charger just flashed a red light and does nothing (not turning on or charge).
Things i've tried:
Holding down power button for some time.
Holding down power button + volume up.
Holding down power button + volume down.
Holding down power button + volume up + volume down.
Kept the phone on charge for 24 hours.
The charger is working properly, the outlet is working.
Again the phone held a charge before reinstalling oficial rom.

Stuck at bootloader unlocked warning

I have TWRP and LineageOS with Magisk installed on my A50. Normally, when my phone boots, I get the following sequence:
1. Phone vibrates.
2. Samsung Logo appears for a very short time, with bootloader unlocked warning at the bottom.
3. A screen showing a bootloader unlock warning at the top and "PRESS POWER KEY TO CONTINUE" appears.
4. After a while or if you press the power key, an additional unofficial software warning appears in red letters at the bottom.
5. After some time the phone continues to boot normally.
My problem is that after the latest reboot ("reboot into recovery" via power menu), it gets stuck at step 4 and won't continue to boot, neither recovery nor system, even if I wait for tens of minutes.
What I've tried:
-reboot with volume +/-/poweroff
-reboot with volume volume -/poweroff
-all of the following with and without USB connected to PC:
-power/volume +/- at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen, as well as releasing power at logo screen
-power/volume + at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen, as well as releasing power at logo screen
-power/volume - at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen, as well as releasing power at logo screen
-volume + at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen
-volume - at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen
-volume +/- at boot, both starting after logo screen as well as starting before logo screen
None of these helped. I just get the normal sequence 1-4 and then stuck every damn time. Can't get into recovery or download mode. Can't even power off, obviously.

With some help I managed to get into download mode, and from there reflash stock rom with ODIN.
Basically, you need to reboot the phone with power/vol+/vol- and as soon as the screen goes black, you release power but keep pressing the volume buttons, and also immediately connect the USB cable with the PC. Timing is key.

bro, you helped me alot, i'm stucked at this screen maybe 2 hours I didnt know what to do.
Btw, I've it just in 1 time =))
I got a way easier Method which has saved me several times
Is something i came up myself
Il be as precise as i can be so everyone understands!
1.Plug the phone to the wall (Your charger to the outlet)
2. Hold Power And Volume - (Volume down) until the phone shows the second charging animation (Which is the one after the first image of the phone charging [A circle with the lightning icon in the middle], this second screen shows a charging animation and the percentage of the battery) This indicates that the phone is fully Turned Off
3. Unplug your phone and the charger off the wall and bring it to your computer
4. Plug your cable to your Computer then back on your phone Hold Volume + and Volume - (Volume up and Volume Down) and plug your phone to your computer WHILE HOLDING BOTH VOLUME BUTTONS.
This little trick will put your phone in download mode so you can restore your device using Odin OR Flash Twrp with Odin and boot to right into Twrp (There is a way to do it without turning the phone on and having to go back to step 1, Follow this Tutorial to do it
(
)
I Hope this helps you all
And Happy Flashing!
