Has anybody found any kind of game controller that will pair with the captivate?
I've tried all the wiimote apps in the market, and the only one that seems to do anything is simplewiicontroller. I can get my phone to recognize it, but every time I try to pair, it asks for a pin number. At this point any controller at all would be awesome.

also for the pin did you try 1111 or 9999 . those are standard bt pins for no input devices, such as headsets

Yeah tried 0000, 1111, 1234, 9999, 4321, abcd. Nothing works, always says incorrect pin. I thought the reason why you couldn't use the wiimote with samsung, is because the cappy b/t couldn't detect the older versions of bluetooth. But mine clearly picks it up.

i havent heard on anyone getting a wii mote to work on a galaxy s. something withthe bluetooth stack and no source code. notice the nexus s has bluetooth 2.1 and the galaxy s has bluetooth 3.0. people have compiled in different bluetooth stacks but come back to the samsung one because of "problems" im not sure what the problems are but no custom roms have the other bluetooth stacks that i know of.
let us know if you get that app working though. it would be really cool.
now we just need to figure out how to get the native resolution out of the captivate to a tv other than dlna. composite video just wont cut it on todays bigger panels and the picture is distorted because you are pushing more res than the cable can handle. if we can get something out via usb even if we need an external converter of some kind like in a dock or something this phone would be way better.
now i fear the infuse will divert samsung from focussing on accessories for this phone.

Apparently the CM6 BT stack works with the wiimote.
Yeah I'm not rooted and have no real intention of doing that. I'm already on ofw froyo, and still have about 6 months of warranty remaining.

That keyboard is nice, but hella expensive. Locally they go for around 150$, but I did find one for 32$. It's a unitek, and has bluetooth 2.0, so it should work.

the freaking thing doesnt even let you install third party apps out of the box
I'm not going to root phone, and waste my time trying to find a stable/glitch free rom. Done it before, each one has it's perks and flaws, all what your willing to live with.
I have no problem installing 3rd party apps, I'm not sure what you're referring to with this.
All that I'm looking for is a wireless controller, as it is I can already play video games on a tv, it's just wired, and you can't feel where the buttons are.

I want to control my samsung galaxy nexus via my pc but I dont need display I just need to use the keyboard and mouse.
Let me tell you why....
I currently have a spare monitor and I have connected my Samsung galaxy Nexus to it via an MHL adaptor but I would like to use my pc mouse and keyboard to do stuff on it and then just change back to pc when I want.
Anyone know any tools to do this?
Thanks
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is the best option.
Try free AirDroid which lets you use many features of your phone including texting and managing apps via your browser on a PC as long as you're on the same network.

I had been using Droid VNC Server in the past, however it doesn't seem to support ICS. knoxbrder seems to be very close to having a working version for the Galaxy Nexus, you can take a look at this thread for some details.
Once this is running, you can run vncviewer on a Linux system, or download RealVNC for Windows and access your phone when it's on your WiFi network.

LMAO Are you going to hook your microwave up to a monitor as well? How about your toilet? Maybe you can get to the point where everything you own from phone, to coffee maker, to wrist watch has its own monitor. Clearly you need to get out more brah
I've found the remotely controllable phone-to-TV connection very useful. My old TV didn't have Pandora support so I used to hook up my X to it so I could listen via my sound system speakers. I now have a Google TV with a Pandora client, but with a dumb monitor you can also throw in Netflix and Amazon video to turn it into a smart TV. Or just turn the phone into a mini-desktop, it's already just a pocket computer.
i have been pretty disapointed with android options in this department.
i had veency running like a charm on my iphone, but nothing for android. and most of the vnc/rdp programes in market are not what they claim to be.
I got a notice to download the "AllshareCast Dongle S/W Update" to version LJ02 today. I don't have an AllshareCast dongle and I didn't even know that this app was installed on my phone. I'm wondering why they've pushed it out to everybody (I assume), since I imagine that only a tiny number of people have the app. Seems like it would make sense to install it only for people who actually have the dongle.
I'm thinking about uninstalling or freezing it. Has anybody else received it? Any thoughts?
I received the update last night around 130 am eastern........ Had no clue what it was. I am going to delete in a few minutes

It's supposed to allow the GS3 to update the software on the Allcast dongle that you can attach to TVs and such for device mirroring.

The update is showing as not compatible with my SGS3 if I look at it on the Play Store. Dunno if it's a region thing or the fact I'm rooted with stock?
I'm keen to try this update on my Allshare dongle. Would anyone be able to extract the APK for this update?

Are you on LH9? It seems to only work on LH9 and LI5.
It's not an ATT GS3, so it's not got that firmware on it, but is the latest stock for my region, as far as I know (UK).
I was hoping the APK alone might still work, as it appears to be updating the Allcast dongle itself, rather than being tied to anything on the phone, hardware-wise.
Perhaps Samsung are rolling it out to a select few 'test' firmwares first? I believe I'm on LJ4, but I'm not up on Samsung's firmware terminology - not needed to really stray from rooted stock on this phone.
If you're able to extract the APK, it would be much appreciated

This is a legitimate Samsung update and it is a part of the function that allows you to share the screen with Dlna enabled devices such as blue ray players, wdtv (and other streaming boxes) and hdtv with the function.

Are you sure about that? What you're describing sounds like "AllShare Play" which is a completely different app. Where did you get your information that this app has some connection to DLNA?
I have been using the all share dongle. It is just as described as above. I mirror my phone thru the dongle to and TV with a HDMI port. Or Samsung devices. Play videos games whatever. All share play let's you remote control devices from your phone. All share dongle does work thru some type of dlna service from what I read on Samsung site and other places.
I was using this feature before the update was put out. It now shows up as a installed app. Before the update it was just something you could turn on in settings and still is.
It's the pre configured scan portion for the $90 wifi dongle that you buy to connect to hdmi port on projectors and hdtv displays and or the software for your computer that allows you to share via wifi or Internet.
I bought the MHL connection and carry a cable so when I am in hotels I watch what I want (netflix, Hulu) while the phone charges.
But the address of the developer is legit.

I'm sure that the update is legit. I just want to avoid confusion and misinformation about what it's for:
The Allshare Cast Dongle app supports the Allshare Cast Dongle
The Allshare Play app provides DLNA connectivity to DLNA-capable devices
I believe that the Allshare Cast Dongle does not use DLNA and that this update has no relationship to the Allshare Play app or to DLNA capability. If anybody has good evidence to the contrary, please post it.
That being said, my guess is that this new update being pushed out is useless to the great majority of us who don't have the dongle.
I'm pretty sure All Share Cast is Samsung's version of Miracast.

That's exactly what it is, I don't think the dongle uses DLNA at all.
I've found that this update has been changed to be compatible with my phone (stock UK GS3) over the last few days. It originally was shown as not compatible.
It basically prompts you to update your Allshare Cast dongle firmware when you next connect to it. It updates the dongle firmware - wirelessly - to version LJ02, which appears to have made the dongle connection much more stable, and quicker to establish.
OK, so I installed the update, then uninstalled it when I saw that it was useless for me. Now, I am getting a perpetual update notice in Google Play. Does anybody know a way to make the update notice go away without actually installing the app? The only way I can think of is to install it and then freeze it, but that seems like a waste.

I just had a quick back and forth with Samsung. It is Not a official app. All official app can be found at www.Samsungapps.com.
Edit: seems that Samsung isn't sure it is or not.... They talked with someone else who says that it is valid. XDA has it marked as bloatware that can be removed.
Edit2: Lookout Security says they've been asked about it before and "We have encountered this in the past and Samsung has stated that this is their app via our contact." I'm requesting it be confirmed.
Edit3: A second person at Samsung support says it's not official and a 3P app.
It CAN be un installed with TI. First detach it from the market and then uninstall. It's actual name is com.sec.fwupgrade so don't be alarmed when it says that. I will be sending it to a couple of security vendors to include in malware lists and questioned Samsung why they have not had the app removed.

Anyone using an Andriod phone with their Note 8.0 utilizing tablet talk and all share app? I have an iphone 5 jailbroken which I use for free tethering however I was thinking of getting an andriod phone to take advantage of tablet talk and all share apps. I had a BB torch with the BB Playbook utilizing the bridging functionality and it was great! Wondering if I will have the same experience if I went all Andriod or Samsung. Any feedback would be greatly aprreciated. THANKS in advance!
I use TabletTalk all the time between my Note 8.0 and DROID Bionic. Unfortunately, in comparison to my Nexus 7,there seems to be more issues. The biggest one are the Bluetooth connection of one of the devices (not sure which one might be both) just kinda stupid working between the two devices. The device need a full reboot to connect. This is less frequent between a WiFi connection but still prevalent none the less.
It really probably had something to do with my phone or ROM though. Even when I Bluetooth tether, the device just craps out eventually.
Sent from my GT-N5110 using XDA Premium HD app
I find after X amount of time Bluetooth has to be turned OFF and then ON again for it to actually work. Otherwise e.g. Tablet Talk connection to my S3 will fail, my keyboard won't be able to connect, etc. Don't ya just love Android and Samsung's Bluetooth capabilities? >_<.
Past that I've had no issues, haven't tried audio or tether yet.
AllShare Play / Link works fairly well and unlike the version on my phone, is still able to see regular DLNA devices (without making me go straight to e.g. Video Player or Gallery). Using it with MiniDLNA on Debian stable, it can be confused and refuse to playback some files with a Foo.jpg cover art file assocaited with Foo.m4v, etc. Third party solutions for DLNA are widely available on Google Play.
I have been searching high and low for an app that would allow me to use my phone as a mouse/trackpad and remote keyboard for the AFTV and nothing out there seemed to do the job correctly. None of the bluetooth based apps would work as I could not pair my Nexus 5 with the Fire TV, and almost all of the WiFi remote control apps are made for controlling Windows PC's. The few Android VNC options out there are spotty at best.
Finally I found Limitless Remote (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dh.ControlPad.main) an admittedly VERY ugly app with ads that cannot be removed (there is no paid ad-free version). However, this app WORKS. When first connecting to the AFTV you get a menu of all apps loaded on the AFTV and you can then launch them from your phone. You can then use the menu along the bottom of the app to put your phone into mouse, keyboard, gamepad, or the tradition 4-way D-pad remote layout. So far this has worked for everything I need, but...ITS UGLY AS SIN.
Has anyone found something with similar functionality that looks good while doing the job and has no ads? Or is this it? If this is it, then I thought I would at least spread the word about this app since I have not found anything else that fits the bill.
App works really well and was responding to commands pretty fine, mouse movement was smooth. Doesn't look good but gets the job done pretty well. Thanks for sharing!
Just to mention, you need to install a server app on the fire tv and client app on the device from where you want to control. Both are free. I didn't see any ads, may be because I have AdAway on both FTV as well as my phone.
Glad it works for you too. I might have to try Adaway.

Yep I had the same problem with droidmote.
If i remember correctly, airkeyboardapp requires a wifi connection. I am hard wired and it would not detect my network connection so that was also out as an option. Its not worth giving up a hard wired connection for. I did try a couple apps that spoof a wifi connection and they didn't work.
So far for me Limitless Remote is the only one that does the job.

Not a problem, it works great. I can now install apps that I would normally avoid, such as hbogo, since it needs a mouse to operate.
I would love to have this functionality but i'm having trouble installing the service app on the AFTV. when I push it via ADB i get the error 'file already exists" the file name is 'service.apk' did you change the name? or am i doing something else wrong?

Are you using limitless or droidmote? I think I had that problem once before. Don't remember what I did (if anything) to fix it. Tried rebooting the FTV?

I'm using Limitless Remote. I have rebooted the FTV a few time. I guess i'll keep playing with it. maybe delete the server off the FTV and add it back. frustrating
Okay, let me make sure I get it...
For droidmote...
1. Buy the server app, and install it on the phone.
2. Copy the apk and transfer it to my Mac which has the ADK installed.
3. Sideload to the FireTV with adb install
4. Install the droidmote client on the devices I want.
5. Profit?
Any hope of an iOS version of droidmote for my wife who simply refuses to see the wisdom of Android?
