New/updated sense kernel - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting ready to dive into a new area with my EVO. I thought it would be a great time to turn out a new kernel for our EVO. I will start with gingerbread sense. Yes gingerbread is old news but it is the newest fully working OS we have. I use lionfish on all my gb roms but it doesn't support ext4. So my sdcard only has ext2 so I can use any ROM and kernel combo I want. Enough back story time for the goodies.
I have just received the ok to use lionfish as my base. So like it and freedom I plan on having several versions each progressively undervolted. I will also add ext4 support, governors, and hopefully sbc. I plan on keeping swap enabled and 2 way call recording.
My first 3 new governors
HipKat
Diablo
DirtySoap
These tributes they have more than earned with all there help and hard work.
Anything else yall would like added in please feel free to ask and I will see what I can do. Just don't ask for your own governor. Those are reserved

Glad to hear it! Please have at least one governor with a set screen off max like "InteractiveX" or "Smartass". I would also suggest making it Vipermod friendly for those wishing to experiment with UV on their own. THANKS! :good:

When this is a success bro,i have a few words for ya....."4 Kornerz Ultimate" /w "New 4 Kornerz OC Kernel" ,just sayin, lol.

That I totally agree with. I miss using VM with some kernels

Well I will have to look into the viperMod but if I remember correctly viperMod is for AOSP and not sense. Please correct me if I am mistaken. This will be a sense kernel with three prebuilt undervoltings -50, -100, and -150.
Now if all goes well I was thinking about making a whole line of kernels. Gb sense, gb AOSP, Ics, and jb. Although one thing at a time since I am new to the whole development scene.
I have only put out two roms. The first was never completed. Turtle power on the 3vo was my starter. A Ics miui ROM merged with sense that was not very easy or completely successful.
Then the dirty diablo which is a nand turned into a flashable ROM. Which turned out very well for an untested release.
If these projects keep growing like this I think I will need to create or join a team. LOL!
Like always keep an eye out because the EVO scene is getting hotter every day.
Peace,
Love, and
Happiness

Well a team can push out better projects. We all have our strong and weak points with a team hopefully all the weak points get covered.
So HipKat you you want in? I think a killer release of gb miui could be just the thing we need. Although I would like to put a nice ported launcher on it rather than their ios style launcher.

Overclock

Can u overclock the dinc and if u can how do u do it. Thanks in advance

There are a couple of ways to overclock the dInc, but it depends on which kernel you use and what ROM you have. For froyo, Ziggy's are probably the best. Tiamat is very nice for AOSP gingerbread. An app called SetCPU can be found for free to XDA members on here. Just Google it. There's also a couple free apps on the market. If you're still using froyo, I suggest only Ziggy's because his will allow you to use scripts to change the speed and the voltage at every step and he lays it all out very nicely, including samples that you can just edit and mix together. The benefit of the script is it doesn't use system resources like an app would.
Pushing it to 1.153 should be hard with most kernels so long as they aren't undervolted. Some devices are stable at 1.19 and some even higher. Few will exceed 1.19 though. Overclocking and tweaking kernels can be an interesting thing. Most kernels with a sysfs or ramdisk will allow some kind of scripting. Definitely check out Chad's IncrediControl.
Another good kernel for ASOP Roms (both gingerbread and Froyo) is Incredikernel. Always check and see if the Rom you want to overclockable and if it doesn't say in the OP ask the creator of the Rom, they'd be happy to help you out. Also, make sure you know the correct way to flash a kernel. It's the same way you flash a Rom, so it shouldn't give you any trouble. Happy Flashing and Overclocking!

None of the gingersense ROM's will be overclockable until HTC releases the kernel source. Which will happen sometime after we get the OTA. So it's either Froyo Sense or AOSP Gingerbread if you have to overclock.

It's not available on XDA anymore. I'm actually running Ziggy's kernel on it now. I'm gonna change my sig in a second.
I have found if the ROM is developed well enough, overclocking is not needed. You wont see too many benefits.

On 3G, not really. On fast WiFi or LTE, yes. That's when you're looking at situations where the device isn't waiting for data. That's where you'll see the bigger benefits of overclocking.

Doesn't really matter. Quadrant, linpack... you're comparing same setup to same setup. An overclock on one isn't going to yield comparatively different results when compared to any other... at least it SHOULDN'T.
This may be a stupid question...I am having trouble with all the kernels and ROMs determining what is a safe OC for my DInc. I am flashing CM7.0.3 now and I read that it's got OC built-in. I just wanted to OC to whatever is definitely safe. Is that 1.113 GHz or 1.153 GHz as indicated earlier in the thread?
Or is it something I'm going to have test on my device to see if it exhibits a specific symptom?

Your milage may vary, but usually when things become unstable you can't really naviagte to anything and you get a bunch of reboots, or so it has been in my case, but again YMMV.

Every kernel dev has his own choices for kernel voltage and that's usually the single biggest variable in what stable will be. 1.113 should be stable for most devices though.
Thanks for the responses. I tried 1.113 on CM7 (7.0.3) on my Incredible and I started getting constant reboots. I put it back to 998. Maybe I'll try another setting later.

First things first for future references please post questions in the Q&A section. I understand this is development but this thread is for rom, fixes, and mods most of the instructions and such will be inside the threads. Now that you know here is the answer most roms will work with cwm all you have to do is download them and put them in the root of your sd card. After doing that reboot to recovery make supre you wipe and wipe once again and then go ahead and flash your new rom reboot phone and boom follow instructions. Make sure you back up your apps but I recomend not to restore system apps or data you can do it but sometimes it causes problems.
I must warm you do not pay attention if you get some trolls in here but make sure for the future you post in the righ sections

Using Ra 2.3( dont be alarmed when u see screen pixelation by the way-it's an onscreen bug that wont harm ur phone).
U can run any rom froyo 2.2 roms or 2.3 gingerbread roms.
U don't like CM7 -me either its too plain looking for me- I use my phone as a phone and media player- I don't get anything out of overclocking it - all that does is eat battery faster.
The rom I use is SNS 1.5.... it is snappy, does everything that I need in a rom including masking my wireless tethering(I was using some fancy newer 3.0 and 2.1 sense roms loaded with that ciq sprint spyware and got a "cease and desist letter from sprint about my usage! Since sns 1.5 -has ciq elements purposely stripped out- I'm in the pink without Sprint all up in my business...
Best rom for EVO 4G
Hello,
I tried a lot of roms on my evo but I found the perfect setup for me:
**********
Phone: HTC EVO 4G, hwr 003
ROM: gingerbread-evo-deck-1.3d from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1078558
Kernel: SavagedZen-2.2.1-CFS-HAVS
Launcher: GoLauncherEx
GPX fixer: GPS_Supersonic_FIX_Flash3 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311002339
SetCPU settings:
Main: 1075200-245000 InteractiveX Set on Boot
Profiles:
- Temp > 40C 245-245 PowerSave Priority 100
- Battery < 25% 245-245 PowerSave Priority 95
- Battery < 70% 883-245 InteractiveX Priority 65
- Battery < 85% 998-245 InteractiveX Priority 55
- Charging 1190-245 InteractiveX Priority 45
Note that I do not use an Screen Off profile (Thanks to Rodope) because InteractiveX have it inside.
**********
I want to share this setup because cannot find any issues, everything working very fast.
If you aren't super happy w aosp try a senseless rom w more or aggressive freedom v.9. You will get that polished feel and look and all the HTC goodies.
Worth a shot.
One of my FAVORITE roms that i ran for a really long time was the ava rom. Heres the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049750
I would always go back to that rom from any others i tried. I say definitely give thag one a go!

CM7 is king baby! I suggest u try a nightly. It has so many nice features built in. To be honest though all the AOSP roms are very similar. U just have to find the one that you like best. I just tried VaelPak and it is pretty nice. It has one nice unique feature...u can actually undervolt it through the settings.

[Q] Sooo... Any update on ACS 1.3?

It's been a few months and 1.2 is STILL the best ROM in my opinion. Just... any new news on the development for 1.3?
John did mention a new kernel would be included with 1.3 but that it wouldn't be Vision Kernel as was expected a while back. Other than that, rjmjr69 (leader of ACS) hinted that 1.3 would be "coming soon" in the 1.2 thread not to long ago, so we shouldn't be waiting much longer. My GUESS (which should be taken with a grain if salt) would be that it's in its testing stages and being prepped for release, hopefully before Oct? We'll see what happens tho, someone on the inside is bound to tip us off with a teaser or something soon.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
LOL ... yep , when rjmjr69 posted that , I got my phone ready , but still waiting ... LOL
Yeah, when they are trying to add a new kernel, new tweaks, Hotspot hack, etc it can get tricky. Especially the kernel part. You have to test so many configurations to confirm stability. For all I know, the kernel may not make it in. I will contact some people to try and get more details

It will be based on froyo, iirc, which would mean it'l be outdated at release. They may have considered that...

Thanks, Ceelos! That's what I needed to hear! In my opinion, I think ACS should just "strongly" suggest a good kernel for us to include instead of making one. But, I'm happy with 1.2 at the moment.
I tried the Hurricane ROM and the volume was waaay too loud. I reverted back to ACS 1.2 and I'm happy as a clam.

They should not include a custom kernel. One of the best thing in 1.2 was the stock kernel. Custom kernels sometimes make apps to FC. I had issues, random reboots, FCs with custom kernel. That why I choose 1.2 because it have a stock kernel, no issues since first install(well in my wife Epic it lost the root).

Mine which hasn't been released yet but it should work on any GB 2.1 or 3.0 sense rom
cool, I'm testing it with insink's euro port beta right now. Definitely feel a speed improvement right away, will post results after testing. Thanks to all involved in marvelc development

[Q] Help my wife...

I go through ROMs left and right...she wants the most stable ROM with ALL the features of the phone working...Bluetooth, 4G, the works. Can you guys point me to a ROM that would satisfy her hunger for perfection with a rooted Evo?? Help a guy out here!
stock
The MikG rom would probably be your best bet for everything to work like stock.
It's based on stock, but with some tweaks to make it better and more efficient.
Thread moved to Q&A
Fresh ROM works well .

Man I would go with decks 1.3 or 1.3d try and see which one works better on her phone, make sure you set it up for her, and I would add launcher pro to it, set widgets and shortcuts, and theme. My wife loved it, no problems at all, you could also flash the data governor killer zip, so her 3g is always at top speed

Express,by all means, Express....Without a question

Without a doubt digital karma v5 great speed, no bugs, and amazing battery. Hope that helps.

I would say Tommy's classic v0.0.5 final untilled the new final comes out. Its very quick and stable. Its the only sense rom that has kept my from going back to aosp.
i say go with cm7 or shooter rls 5.5 both are great roms but cm7 will give her a bit more battery life.
So what we're Reeeeally trying to say is, They're all great roms. You'll just have to try them until you find the one that suits you...(meanwhile, behind the facade of an innocent sounding phone hacker, drlzanej is underhandedly trying to create another "Flashoholic". dun,,,,dun dundun, duuun)
ODJ DUB HD BLISS! I love this rom and everything works. Also has a blue theme etc.! Just make sure and partition the sd card as directed.

I swear you guys are retards, get real, the best rom to download for your ole lady is "Pink Pussycat"....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584137 ,dont listen to these guys, this is the best rom for your ole lady, trust me.
I would recommend
Fresh
SOSX
Classic
MikG
Synergy
Shooter
Derp3D
The first three are sense 1.0 tweaked to the max
The second two are sense 2.1 with 3.0 widgets
The last two are 3D ports. Sense 3.0
All are fully functional and well built. All depends on what she likes.

i was just looking for the name of the rom to let him know i got it fot my girlfreind and she loves it you got down on that one diablo keep up the good work. Pink Pussycat is the best fot the wife trust me shell like it
I'm defiantly a flashaholic. That's the biggest problem. There are many ROM's out there that I've tried. I prefer a sense 3.5 ROM but it lacks 4G among other things. I put her on the MikG ROM and it seems to be running fine. I had a stock OTA on there but the phone kept getting FC's however; I recently found that she's been in Titanium Backup removing files that she has no idea interact with the OS. Silly wife, tweaks are for peeps!
Don't know if this is solved it not...but If you want sense I recommend Tommy tomatoes classic, for soso it's decks all the way...find one that works with a2sd and your set
Rock and roll ain't never gonna die...
