Desire can't see ad-hoc wifi network!

I've just set up an ad-hoc wifi network using my laptop, but it seems that desire can't see it. My other laptop, and ipod touch are connecting just fine.
Is there any way to fix this??

Yes, wait for the Froyo update.

I have froyo rom installed...it should work...i guess ...
AFAIK no Android device can see an ad-hoc network. (not without modifications / root that is). I admit I have no idea if Froyo solves this problem.

Can u post any links with instructions? I would really like to make this work, hehe . I've also tried Connectify, and Desire can connect, but there's no internet access (maybe I did something wrong)...

You _did_ something wrong, because Connectify is the way I successfully connect my Desire to internet.
Have a look at:

Hm...don't know. There's nothing to do wrong . It's very easy to configure. I've tried it on two laptops. Desire is just hanging on obtaining ip adress, and another laptop conects just fine but with no internet access...

Your windows firewall is blocking the connection process. Either turn off the firewall or set a exception, if you have a complete antivirus solution with firewall its the same thing.
Also go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections (on win 7) > right click on your internet connection > Proprieties > Sharing > Check the "Allow other network users to connect through this computers intenet connection" > in the drop down list select the Wirless Network Connection made by Connectify
No desire does not see ad hoc connections, i think some people on here are not understanding what the OP means.
He wants to share his interner from laptop to desire so the desire can go online.
I have tired this with a nokia phone in ad hoc mode (n900) and desire would not see SSID.
Not sure if froyo will, i had froyo installed but didnt test that.
Android does not see ad-hoc networks by default, but it can be configured that way.
I did it with this guide: hxxp://modmymobile.com/forums/491-jailbreak-root-access/544146-connect-g1-ad-hoc-network-solved.html (replace xx with tt) wich is similar as the above mentioned.
I had some problems with the wpa_supplicant.conf file, but this is how it looks now:
Code:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
network={
ssid="MarcsAndroid"
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=NONE
mode=1
}
network={
ssid="Marcsnet"
scan_ssid=1
psk="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
group=CCMP TKIP
priority=1
}
I'm using wifi thethering on my Desire and have configured my old G1 so that is sees the Desire, can connect to it, and share its internet. But most importantly, I use the app WiFi-keyboard, so I can use my G1 qwerty on my Desire

cannot connect properly to networks encripted with WPA/WPA2... Is this software bug?

Hello, I was experiencing constant dropouts from my trusted networks at home and at the office and, after three days of painfull trial and error
I solved the issue at home by switching the router security encription type from WPA/WPA2
to WEP. No more dropouts since but still leaves the question what we do when we need to connect to a network encrypted with WPA. It's ridiculous asking around "...Pease be so kind, could you reconfigure you router settings, I've got a buggy HTC One X and need to connect...":banghead:

WPA2 works fine for me with no dropouts.
Maybe you have a faulty unit?
Thanks, I hope it was a faulty unit. Just returned it today and am waiting for the replacement to charge in "off" state before checking.... fingers crossed!
Mine also wont connect WPA, only WEP...which is pathetic, what about when I go to a coffee shop or other wireless hotspot....my Desire worked with WPA flawlessly...
Mine connects fine WPA2 with no dropouts.Sounds like a router problem to me.I have a Netgear N300.

My Desire connects to the same router when its WPA, so why not my HTC one X?
I updated router firmware to latest rom, tried all number of WPA/PSK/WPA2 or both, set a diff channel, but no.. any device should connect using the password set for WPA, so laptop, netbook, my N95 8gig and HTC Desire can, but the One X cant?.... not good.
Mine is working fine with Wep at home and Wpa 2 at work, i did have a problem with Wep at home with a Galaxy Nexus/Note where both phones could not obtain a ip adress. Still could not figure out why...

[Q] HOX & Edimax ew-7416apn, WIFI issue

Hi guys,
I have an issue on my HOX. On the stock ROM I could connect to my work internet but not my home internet. This is my setup at home:
Netgear Router DGN2200 (First router that connects to the dsl):
DHCP enable
No firewall
No security
I also have an access point (AP): Edimax ew-7416apn V2.
In every computer/mobile I could browse from both Edimax and Netgear, except the HOX. In both Edimax and Netgear I get a "connected" status and unique IP, but in Edimax I can't browse at all.
I try to reset both Edimax & Netgear and setup everything from the beginning. It didn't help.
Any ideas why I can't browse VIA Edimax?
Thanks for your help
is there anyone who can help me?

It sppofs my MAC but I can´t log in my router with my spoofed MAC. My MAC-Address is existing (It´s the one of my HTC Desire 500), and my Desire 500 is turned off... Where is the mistake?

Can you check the output or log of your router? It may yeild some useful information to be honest I have never tried to spoof a Mac address so if the log is no use I would suggest posting in the spoofing thread for more experienced help
