I have the ability to purchase a T-Mobile Note 2 right now. The problem is my carrier is AT&T. I'm not interested in getting LTE to work only HSPA+, but will that even work? To do it, would I have to unlock it, how would I do that? Also once it is unlocked and working with AT&T, would I flash AT&T Note 2 ROMs or the T-Mobile Note 2?

Yes it works, I get 8Mbps down on good days, worst I have seen is 2 Mbps. You will have to unlock your phone, SEARCH for the free unlock. I've seen it posted here, in the N7100 forums and S3 forums. You should be able to find easily. For roms, stick with the TMobile roms on a TMobile phone.
If you don't have plans on going to TMobile or LTE, I would suggest the N7100 international version. More rom development, faster firmware leaks and releases. I also got better battery life out of my N7100. I kind of wish I would not have traded my N7100 for the TMobile Note2. The TMobile version is easier to hack if you want to put it on an ATT dumb phone plan.

I'm looking a purchasing a Samsung Note II that will be used on AT&T network. Since my upgrade is a year away, I have a Skyrocket that's only a year old, this phone will be a full price for me. I'm trying to find out some specific questions on the different Note II phone types, euro vs North America and what preloaded software differences are between them.
* the Note II that I purchase MUST have 4G LTE (AT&T FINALLY turned on 4G LTE in North East OKLA about 4 weeks ago! ..LOVEING IT).
* 10 minutes after I purchase the phone and verifying that everything is in working order it gets rooted.
I can purchase the phone from AT&T for full retail for 649. Best Buy said they would match that price (we'll see if they really do). When at Best Buy I asked about the preloaded software on the Note II (sense they do not have a working model on the floor) I was told in a blunt tone that it was an AT&T phone so it would work on AT&T's network.
Question---
1. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells have the same preloaded junk that comes on the one at the AT&T store?
2. Is the AT&T Note II phone that Best Buy sells been stripped of some of the Note II futures like the one at the AT&T store?

Be aware that the AT&T version of the Galaxy Note II is currently missing various standard functionality that Samsung is marketing and the other major carriers provide- missing functionality include:
~Multiview
~Group Shot Camera mode - with the ability to change faces
~Mobile data toggle
~Blocking mode toggle
~Screen Recorder
Since I am trying to get the most bang for my buck (a lot of bucks) which Note II phone that will work on AT&T that has 4G LTE should I be looking at?
(note- I suffered waiting on an ICS update from AT&T, so not having to depended on AT&T for my Android updates is a big plus)

Update: LTE! There are many people commenting about this. Apparently there's a version of the international Note 2 (not the N7100) that sports LTE, the model number is N7105 and it comes with "LTE 700 MHz Class 17 / 2100" (Sources: GSM Arena, Engadget and XDA forums). If you have a N7100 the LTE radio is simply not there. However this is not guarantee that the N7105 will work with AT&T's or Tmo's LTE, it all depends if those frequencies are compilant with those carriers' respective LTE signals. As LTE network compatibility can be a deal breaker for many people within the US, I suggest you to research very well before buying it. If someone can squeeze any info out of AT&T or Tmo, please comment. To shed more light on this issue, you can Google the xda thread 1917383. (Geez, all this makes me feel kinda happy I don't have to worry about LTE compatibility yet).
The only way to get lte with a note on att is with their model. If you can live with out lte the get N7100.in San Diego I get around 8mb down and around 2 up.

If you get the N7105, it will have LTE, but in the wrong bands for AT&T.
GT-N7105 (International Note 2): 800/1800/2600
SGH-i317 (AT&T Note 2): 700/850/AWS/1900
See how those don't line up?
I'd just get the 7100. You'll get 21mbps with that on AT&T with HSPA+ and you won't have any carrier BS. HSPA+ is pretty dang quick.

I am running the 7100 on AT&T in Phoenix. The lack of LTE does not bug me too often as the HSPA+ is good enough for my needs.
However, the OP stated that they would be rooting the phone. As such a clean bloat-free ROM for the AT&T phone would work on LTE. I have not been in the AT&T forums, but I assume there are bloat-free ROMs with all the missing features turned on.

Yes I plan on rooting the phone and installing a clean bloat free ROM. (rant) I just wanted to buy a phone with all the futures the EU version has and without the silly branding/bloat that carriers do, all they do is muck up the phone.

Which Samsung Note 2 version is not only the best to use on AT&T's LTE network but comes with the least bloatware? Is is the AT&T version, International version, or one of the Canadian versions? Will Android updates through the AT&T version come out as soon as it's available, or will it be anything like the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket where updates were released 3254320512 years later?
I'd also like to be able to use international sim cards when traveling abroad.

I cant talk too much on the first question, although I would guess that the ATT version will be the best, but if any of the others can operate on the same LTE bands they should work as well, although I would be careful with modem versions/etc,
As for the updates, ATT is usually slow, but then again most carriers are. Only way to get the fastest updates is to get an unbranded international Note 2
I got an AT&T Note II and had little difficulty rooting it and installing CleanROM, which got rid of a lot of the bloatware. More recently I went to CyanogenMod-based ROM, and now there's no Samsung software at all to worry about. That also takes care of the update issue since I don't have to wait for the carrier to update.
Yep, the best version will be the ATT version. As far as the updates go, it'll be getting the 4.3 update around mid-late November per all the leaks. Otherwise you can root it and flash a ROM that has no bloatware.

I currently own an unlocked AT&T version of it, but soon I will also own the T-Mobile version of it. I know T-Mobile's does not have KitKat and is stuck back at Jellybean 4.3. After that, is all I can think of a difference. I currently do have T-Mobile. Will I be making a huge mistake by going to that variant?
I would think the frequency bands available would be different. You could check that easily enough by looking at the specifications.

The thing that pops into my head first would be wifi calling.. that would be the only advantage. Because you can use almost any rom here with different kernels to make your t-mo work for 4.4. IMHO
My wife's AT&T Note 2 on MetroPCS, I was able to tether easily. It took me a bit to get my Tmo Note 2 to get it to tether. My Tmo N2 has faster LTE, both on MetroPCS, both 4.3.
I believe the biggest difference would be the HSPA 1700 support since ATT variant does not support such band. if you are in a 1900 reform then you would get HSPA at 21Mbps. LTE should be the same on both devices. Other than the radio difference the software maybe slightly difference with wifi calling being the biggest feature.
I have the att version. The frequencies for t-mobile are there but not activated. If you flash a modem you can then unlock the aws band just search YouTube for unlocking t-mobile on i317. I had to downgrade to android 4.1 To perform the Change and then if I change modem I have to perform unlock again which means back to 4.1 until I find a method in 4.4. And then reflash my current rom. My upload speeds are slower than my wife's MetroPCS lte phone but download is faster. Websurfing is about same. Lot more support for att rom. Some will work on i317M. But more research. Different bloatware. And WiFi calling is only in rom ported from t-mobile which are not many. WiFi calling is great if in area were you may not have great coverage by t-mobile. I have also considered getting t-mobile variety but have not seen a great enough advantage. If you want lollipop when first out probably only reason as a TouchWiz lollipop rom will probably be some time away for i317M.

If you're asking if it's a mistake to use the T-Mobile Note on the T-Mobile network just because the official firmware is JellyBean, no, don't worry about that. There are tons of KitKat and Lollipop ROMs in the T889 forum because of some extraordinary developers. You'll be upgraded in no time. Plus, with an actual T-Mobile Note, you'll have Wi-Fi calling, and it'll be better for overall network compatibility, anyway. Some users of unlocked phones on different networks report data drops or unreceived photo texts, for example.

Sorry, the Sprint Note 4 unlocked can run LTE on the TMobile network? Apparently it can be rooted and flash custom roms right? Sorry for obvious questions but Im ready to buy one and need to be sure.

It can be unlocked, but will only work with 4G, not LTE, check the Note 4 questions tab on the sprint section, there was already a thread started a while back ago. T-Mobile will tell you it won't work though, but there are ways around it.

I was under the impression that you'd actually have to change the modem firmware in order to get a domestic GSM unlock on a Sprint device, if the S5 was any indication. That's where it seems to be locked out.
Since the Note 4 was launched prior to Feb 15, 2015, it's very unlikely Sprint will ever bother with permitting any sort of domestic SIM unlock for it (international is another matter entirely), and that's before we get into the missing LTE bands for full T-Mobile compatibility.
That said, if someone does pull off a working DOMESTIC unlock (T-Mobile, AT&T, MVNOs thereof, etc.), I'd sure like to know about it!

I know this thread has probably fizzled out or not, but THERE IS a domestic unlock for Sprint Note 4 and all others. It is NOT FREE. However, if one would search and read you will find it. Full data and SMS works perfectly. I have 3 Sprint Note 4's on T-Mobile US.
