Solid blue light staying on - Phone works fine? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Phone is working fine (currently has CM 10.1 on it). But that light will not go away. Even when I pull the battery (for 30 seconds) and reinsurt. The light comes on before I even turn the phone on (boot android up). It comes on as soon as I put the battery back it, even without powering up. It's my GF's phone so hard telling what she has done to it.

Flash a stock TouchWiz ROM and see it the issue persists.

Is there an app like blink or lightflow installed that is controlling the led? If bot you might try one of these apps. I prefer blink.
The simple fix may be a factory reset

Guys, it does it even when the phone is off. As soon as I put the battery back in, the light comes on. This is before a rom is even loaded. Before I even turn the phone on. The light comes on and stays on. So I doubt flashing other roms or checking apps will do much good? But to answer the question. No LED apps that control it are installed.

Weird that its on even before power up. It sounds like a hardware problem. Flash a different rom to be sure.

Yea, I only wish I could tell her that and she would leave me alone about it. I am afraid its going to burn out being on all the time. Plus I am sure it being on has a negative effect on battery.

LEDs take forever to burn out. You will also not have any problems with battery. I have an extra LED installed on my phone that stays on even when it is turned off or even dead. I still have really good battery life.

[Q] CPU overheat and crash, help?

My wife's Epic 4G was working fine yesterday but today it crashed and overheated pretty severely. When it was still plugged in and crashing it showed the battery charging and then it turned yellow and show a yellow warning triangle with a thermometer beside it, is the phone going to stop working on us?
I would appreciate a quick response so I can take it to Sprint and see what they can do about it.
I just factory reset it to insure that it wasn't a rogue application or what not and the phone is still running slow, not as bad as when it was crashing, but it still works so I don't know what's going on with it.
Also the phone is stock and has always been stock without root or any other type of hacking, etc.
It just stooped working perfectly one minute.
She showed me that the screen was blinking rapidly in an up and down bar fashion on the home screen and during applications.
First of all how old is the phone. My phone runs games hot all the time and never crashes (well sometimes, but usually when im not even doing anything with it).
I would think that the video is going out on it and it is rebooting. Depending on the age I think your phone is dead dude.
Cheers
Burrito
Not a year yet, it'll be a year old in June or July. I'm hoping it was just a virus or something because its working now. Should I exchange it anyway?
Nabbu eats your face.
Try flashing it back to stock or wipe the data if it isn't already rooted. I've never heard of anything of this sort... need some screenshots or something.

I already factory reset it and it's running right now as if it were just fine but what I'm wondering is if it's going to happen again and not work afterwards.
I'm thinking about taking it in to Sprint and exchanging it but I'm afraid there might be fees for exchanging or what not. The phone has been dropped multiple times but it never had any issues before.
The drop distance has been less then 2 feet every time.
No water damage to the phone itself but the Sprint tech said the battery's "water damage" indicator was activated and showing water damage.
The phone HAS been in the bathroom during multiple showers which might be the cause for the battery's damage indicator to go off but the phone, like I said, has never had any issues.
She downloads pretty much everything from the Market so I was suspecting viruses or malware and now it's "clean" it's running fine.
Any suggestions for where I should go from here?
The phone should be fine. This has happened to me a few times.... if your phone gets extremely hot it will refuse to charge as a safety feature and show that yellow triangle thing... open the back of the phone take the battery out and let it cool down.

BTW you can't take a screenie because phone shuts it self off

I'm guessing that the overheating problem had to do with a buggy app that was running on the phone and took lots of data or cpu time. This has also been know to happen when running wifi hotspot apps.
Regardless, like everyone else said the phone went into thermal protection mode. The battery got hot and it wouldn't charge the battery until it cooled down.
Could be the screen being on and maybe running a governor such as "performance"? Also, I've left my phone under a pillow charging, woke up it was 110F and I haven't had this problem it mustve been really hot

THIS! ^^^ Without looking at your phone, I'm guessing this was the culprit. She had a buggy/defunct app that was probably frozen in the background while still sucking CPU/RAM. I've had a few of those instances and it DEFINITELY increases the temperature of the phone.
Only other thing I can think of is if she runs her phone at the brightest setting and has a long timeout on the screen timeout. Either way, I think it's nothing a little spring cleaning of the apps and tweaking couldn't take care of. Good luck buddy

Led and vibrate = battery destroyers

I have been frustrated by battery life with the ics leaks, getting maybe 6 hours on a charge.... I thought it was maybe bad batteries but...
Turning off LED notifications and vibration on keypress has me at 7 hours of normal usage and at 91% battery.
Holy crap you guys, can it be this simple? Is anyone else seeing this kind of improvement?
Btw, gb roms never drained like I was seeing, even with keypress vibration on....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 (FF09 Stock ICS)
I might try this but I do like haptic feedback. The LED I would question on being part of your gain in battery life though. It's power draw can't be much if even noticeable. For one they're not very bright (remember how bright Blackberry LED's were?) and also the flash timing is long but with a very short duration.
Just as a reference. My dad has this Pink Floyd CD with a red LED on the spine of the case. It's powered by 1 AA and that damn thing blinked every 2 or so seconds 24/7 for about 12(ish) years.
That vibe motor though... well I had a joke about women, BOBs, and batteries but I lost it. The words are there, you figure something out.
Someone else posted in another thread that it is not the led itself that drains battery but the fact that keeping it blinking prevents the phone from going into deep sleep. (I assume it is checking to see if there are active notifications.) That WOULD explain the difference...
I believe notification led blinking rely on a software timer thus keeps phone from going into deep sleep mode currently
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, I usually did this on the leaks. Turn off all sound, all vibrations (haptic and notification) dim the screen to minimum and remove the led and you can last 24hours. You will miss every phone call. But who has time for phone calls? Anyway, battery life is fine on cm9 a5 even if I forget to charge at night.

Screen comes on after charge complete

My Galaxy Sii X rocks but one thing is driving me crazy!
I use my phone as my alarm clock so its on the night-stand and I charge it every night. I plug it in to charge, hit the screen button on the side to go into Sleep mode, turn off all sync with my emails and everything is good.
HOWEVER, once the phone hits 100% full charge the screen comes on, stays on and very annoying as it not only lights up the room and wakes me up but also I am scared that if left on it will burn the image onto the screen.
I am running with Telus as my provider. Samsung Galaxy Sii X model SGH-T989D
Android version: 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich Kernal: 3.0.8
I have checked my settings and not sure if I am overlooking something or what. Pls help!

My brother's lg optimus does the same thing. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly what it is but run a logcat -c before you go to bed with it plugged in. And then when you see the screen is on, run logcat -d and post results. That should tell us what's happening during the night.

OK - stupid ques but how do I do that? I am still somewhat of a rookie at this whole Android thing.
Just reach over and turn the screen back off... does it stay off after that?
I've also read that a battery pull has solved this for some. It could also be a specific app you have.. for example the screen lights up when charged but another app is stopping it from turning back off..
Also it could be the charger if its not the one for the phone.

I never thought about the charger - could that be it? I am using the one currently for my HP Touchpad - never thought that a piece of hardware would have anything to do with it.

I don't understand everyones answer...all s2s light up and tell you the battery is fully charged...it's not an app or bad charger...you should also get a little green battery in the status bar...on gb it would light up and make a loud beep...but for ics they took out the beep cause that was really irritating...darkside's custom rom took that feature out...but it is normal...the screen should go off in your desired time unless you have the screen to stay on when plugged

Power Button??

So, my phone just rebooted out of the blue and the power button no longer works. sometimes it will get the power menu to come up, and then the phone will reboot if it is pressed again. I am running a VENUM hybrid ROM. I would not even know how to attempt a factory restore without an operable power button... anyone have any tips? I don't think Sprint would even fix this as I bought it from another Sprint customer

the battery moisture indicator is pink. i just cracked open the phone and I only see one indicator towards the bottom of the phone near the USB port, which is a fresh dry white. Don't think any moisture could have reached inside for whatever reason (not that it was wet recently...)
are there any others?
is there any way to power up the phone without the battery and test?
Mine does the same, it's started two months ago. It's gotten to the point where the phone reboots itself literally fifteen times a day. Very frustrating

I guess I have the magic touch or some ****... just put her back together and it works like a charm I will be getting an extended battery I think. This battery is worn out and doesn't hold a strong charge.
I'm sorry to hear that multi, it's a true pain in the ass. I was just in touch with a Sprint rep and they said something about a $35 repair option?

My phone started doing that since yesterday. This is the second time it's happened.I'm thinking the power is stuck, cause when i try to turn off the phone. It always restarts itself. It's killing my battery.
This has been happening to me as well. It usually happens after chrome freezes on me tho. It did it for the first time not on a chrome page today. I think it's just the battery tho, it's been getting worse life lately. I ordered new Anker batteries so if it quits after that I'll keep everyone updated.

GSM Nexus - Red Notification Light

After leaving the house this morning, I was listening to some music. An hour after leaving I see that my notification led has illuminated red. Now I have no notifications and I've tried a battery pull. What I noticed is when removing the battery the light shuts off but as soon as the battery is replaced it lights back up without the need to power on the phone. The phone still works all fine and dandy however.
As for the light its a bright red and sometime dims to a very faint light but never shuts off.

Yes. CNA.
I reflashed to stock but the light stayed on even while I was flashing and after formatting.
If you're still seeing the red LED during and after a flash you're probably looking at a hardware issue. I'd give Samsung a call to see what they have to say. Even if it's not something they will take for warranty repair, they may be able to get you some relevant information.

Did the issue return afterwards?
I have a similar issue, only when i turn the device off the red notification light disappears. And then, when i turn the device on it usually doesn't come back immediately.
But, im getting this red notification light on a daily basis and can't seem to find what it means. Like on your device, everything works fine with no performance issues whatsoever. Also, i'm running stock-rooted Jelly Bean 4.1.2, but the issue started before rooting the device and on 4.1.1. I don't get any notifications on the notification bar, i can't find any app that uses the LED with that color. I don't use any LED control app.
it's annoying, and theres no information at all about this issue.. I already E-mailed Samsung a couple of days ago and didn't get a response from them yet.
I've seen this happen a few times before, after the phone has been exposed to moisture. A good example is when you leave the phone in the bathroom during or after taking a shower...

Well, the phone might has been exposed to small amounts of moisture (it took me really long time trying to remember if it has). What can you suggest doing about it? Close it, take out the battery and put it in a bag of rise for a few days? :/ it's been two weeks since then..
If it is moisture, it will probably clear up on its own. The bag of rice trick may help, if you don't mind going without your phone for a few days...

My biggest concern is corrosion. If it builds up it can really mess the circuits up.
I'll try the bag of rise thing and update what's the result..
