I have been frustrated by battery life with the ics leaks, getting maybe 6 hours on a charge.... I thought it was maybe bad batteries but...
Turning off LED notifications and vibration on keypress has me at 7 hours of normal usage and at 91% battery.
Holy crap you guys, can it be this simple? Is anyone else seeing this kind of improvement?
Btw, gb roms never drained like I was seeing, even with keypress vibration on....

I might try this but I do like haptic feedback. The LED I would question on being part of your gain in battery life though. It's power draw can't be much if even noticeable. For one they're not very bright (remember how bright Blackberry LED's were?) and also the flash timing is long but with a very short duration.
Just as a reference. My dad has this Pink Floyd CD with a red LED on the spine of the case. It's powered by 1 AA and that damn thing blinked every 2 or so seconds 24/7 for about 12(ish) years.
That vibe motor though... well I had a joke about women, BOBs, and batteries but I lost it. The words are there, you figure something out.
Someone else posted in another thread that it is not the led itself that drains battery but the fact that keeping it blinking prevents the phone from going into deep sleep. (I assume it is checking to see if there are active notifications.) That WOULD explain the difference...
I believe notification led blinking rely on a software timer thus keeps phone from going into deep sleep mode currently
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Yes, I usually did this on the leaks. Turn off all sound, all vibrations (haptic and notification) dim the screen to minimum and remove the led and you can last 24hours. You will miss every phone call. But who has time for phone calls? Anyway, battery life is fine on cm9 a5 even if I forget to charge at night.

I've been keeping up with this myself with great interest. Led notification is pretty valuable for me as i typically work in a noisy environment. Anyone want to comment on whether this can be "fixed" once source is released.

If you need a flashlight that bad, you should probably just buy one of those cheap LED flashlights for $15.00 rather than risk damaging the LED on your phone. I thought that using your flash as a flash light for a long period of time regularly could actually burn out the LED because it was not made for that.

Exactly what i was about to say,
If the duration of damage is less than a minute, why are we able to record videos with the LED on?
i use Tesla led as well, works well with widget locker, can turn the led on from lock-screen with a nice slider, pretty sure it'll stay on as long as it needs to, also also has strobe and Morse code functions which are pretty cool.

I use my phone as my alarm clock so its on the night-stand and I charge it every night. I plug it in to charge, hit the screen button on the side to go into Sleep mode, turn off all sync with my emails and everything is good.
HOWEVER, once the phone hits 100% full charge the screen comes on, stays on and very annoying as it not only lights up the room and wakes me up but also I am scared that if left on it will burn the image onto the screen.

OK - stupid ques but how do I do that? I am still somewhat of a rookie at this whole Android thing.
Just reach over and turn the screen back off... does it stay off after that?
I've also read that a battery pull has solved this for some. It could also be a specific app you have.. for example the screen lights up when charged but another app is stopping it from turning back off..
Also it could be the charger if its not the one for the phone.

After leaving the house this morning, I was listening to some music. An hour after leaving I see that my notification led has illuminated red. Now I have no notifications and I've tried a battery pull. What I noticed is when removing the battery the light shuts off but as soon as the battery is replaced it lights back up without the need to power on the phone. The phone still works all fine and dandy however.
As for the light its a bright red and sometime dims to a very faint light but never shuts off.

Yes. CNA.
I reflashed to stock but the light stayed on even while I was flashing and after formatting.
If you're still seeing the red LED during and after a flash you're probably looking at a hardware issue. I'd give Samsung a call to see what they have to say. Even if it's not something they will take for warranty repair, they may be able to get you some relevant information.

Did the issue return afterwards?
I have a similar issue, only when i turn the device off the red notification light disappears. And then, when i turn the device on it usually doesn't come back immediately.
But, im getting this red notification light on a daily basis and can't seem to find what it means. Like on your device, everything works fine with no performance issues whatsoever. Also, i'm running stock-rooted Jelly Bean 4.1.2, but the issue started before rooting the device and on 4.1.1. I don't get any notifications on the notification bar, i can't find any app that uses the LED with that color. I don't use any LED control app.
it's annoying, and theres no information at all about this issue.. I already E-mailed Samsung a couple of days ago and didn't get a response from them yet.
I've seen this happen a few times before, after the phone has been exposed to moisture. A good example is when you leave the phone in the bathroom during or after taking a shower...

Well, the phone might has been exposed to small amounts of moisture (it took me really long time trying to remember if it has). What can you suggest doing about it? Close it, take out the battery and put it in a bag of rise for a few days? :/ it's been two weeks since then..
If it is moisture, it will probably clear up on its own. The bag of rice trick may help, if you don't mind going without your phone for a few days...

My biggest concern is corrosion. If it builds up it can really mess the circuits up.
I'll try the bag of rise thing and update what's the result..

Hi all I have just bought the new nexus 7 and I love it. One problem is I have never seen the notification light work yet. I have checked in settings and it's ticked.. When does it flash? Is it every time you get a notification from eg Facebook etc,? I'm worried it's not working.
The light is usually associated with notifications, yes. Usually this is configurable in the apps responsible for the notifications.
I thought the same when I got mine but it was flashing during a notification a while back so at least it works but rare.

Mine triggers on e-mails, so I see it a lot!
Does work thanks sent myself an Email
I use LightFlow and configured the light to fade in and out with almost no period of time where the light is off. It looks as if the light is "breathing", and is much more noticeable than the 10 second delay between flashes that the stock light is. Give it a shot.
So far, I've only seen it light with email. General notifications don't seem to trigger it.
My first Nexus 7 (2013) had a completely broken notification light. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to light up. (I ran testing programs, Light Flow, sent myself emails, etc). Exchanged it at Best Buy and the new one worked immediately. So just know that there are some defective notification LEDs out there.
There's a whole slew of less common issues that IMO if it bothers you, you should get an exchange, but if not, just live with it.
LED doesn't work
NFC doesn't work
Bluetooth doesn't work
Qi wireless charging doesn't work
dust under screen
light bleed
offwhite screens
dead/stuck pixels
mushy Power/Volume buttons
creaky edges
back cover comes off easily
screen separating from tablet
battery charger not recognized even though it is charging
microphone doesn't work
one speaker has no sound
charger makes buzzing noise
camera blurry
--
spasdic multi-touch
touchscreen dead-spots
camera crashes tablet
hardware related random reboots (not the same as software-related reboots)
--
The last 4 can sometimes be mitigated in software so try fixes first.
Many of these issues are rare. Some are more common. I think a lot of people don't even notice or just live with it because it really doesn't bother them that much or they don't even use the feature.

When plugged into the charger the LED flashes Red until it's charged...Green when 100%...Blue when I have a notification. Sometimes I find it flashing on odd orange/green spot. What the heck is THAT?
I'm worried about it because in my earlier days of tinkering with electronics I found that when you overdrive a red LED it will look similar--right before it burns out

I have a stock AT&T s3. I've searched all over my phone for apps that might have custom led notifications, drilled down through all my phone settings. .. nothing in my phone and nothing found online.
This isn't an indicator I see every day -- only occasionally.
It's also hard to describe the exact appearance. It's not a single yellow dot -- it seems to be at least two tiny led's close together bc it looks like a tiny "yin/yang" shape.
... should mention I'm running 4.3... but i think i also saw this on 4.1
I see this on any gs3 rom I run. Not sure either. I just assume it means it's sort of charged, but not in the green yet.

Yours does it on the charger? Mine flashes yellow when on my hip. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of app notification but I haven't been able to determine WHICH. I've disabled most of the Facebook and eBay notifications--they seem to be the worst offenders for sending out constant annoying dings.
If I can find a way to disable update reminders I'll then be nearly nag-free.
