any way to change the branding on a Lumia 900 - Nokia Lumia 900

Is there any way to change the carrier branding in WP 7 on the lumia 900. I understand you can do it for other devices like LG so I was wondering if I could do it for the 900? I want it to point to Tmobile instead of ATT

Not too sure if T-Mo had the 900 on their Network so not sure a T-Mo ROM exisits, What you could do is find out the code on the sim tray and find a relevant Stock ROM on Navifirm and flash using Nokia Care suite, This will NOT Unlock the phone however but just rebrand it with stock generic firmware.
Code on the sim tray should be similar to 059P6N9 etc, There are a few threads on XDA explaining in detail on how to flash a New ROM using Navifirm and Nokia Care suite, Good luck.

I got it sorted out enough to allow for my wife to use the store without issues. I am not sure you can use a stock rom on a ATT 900 due to inclusion of LTE radio...
Thanks for the help

Unlocking SonyEricsson SO903i

My girlfriend came back from Japan a few months ago and while she was there she bought a cell phone. This is partially my fault since I told her that if it had a SIM it could be unlocked and used in the US. Mostly true, right?
The problem is she went and bought a brand new phone that was recently released in Japan and I cant find a way to unlock it.
Does anyone know how to unlock this phone? Is there something specific I could use for SonyEricsson or is there a general unlock?
Its branded NTTDoCoMo FOMA. Its a sick phone, I just wish she could use it here.
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance
Is Sony using WM?
OK when she got the phone did she ask for it to be enabled for roaming?
Have you asked the provider to unlock the phone for you?
The provider will ususally do one or the other.
If you are looking for a software solution you've come to the wrong place.
Its a Quad Band phone so it should work here. I'm not sure I understand why it would have to be roaming enabled. We dont want to roam, that would be expensive; we want to unlock it and use it with T-mobile.
Japanese providers will not assist you in any way to unlock a phone, its almost taboo to ask. When I was in Japan I asked how I could use a GSM Quad Band in the US and all they would say is it cant be done. Untrue because I know people who have Japanese phones in the US.
I'm not looking for a software solution, but if anyone knows where I could find software that might help that would be cool. I'm just wondering if anyone knows how to unlock this phone or knows how to unlock any SonyEricsson as it might be similar.
And are you asking if Sony is using Windows Mobile? If so, no they aren't. Are these forums only for WM?
My fault.
Upon further research I answered my own question.
It's actually not a GSM phone as I initially thought. Its a CDMA phone that uses a UIM card that is identical to a SIM card.
Solved
This is a GSM phone u can find IMEI number INa CDMA set u get ESN number not IMEI this phone is a GSM brand phone working on some other frequency. This can be unlocked using T-Sim but can't get network in your country.

[Q] Internet Sharing on unlocked ATT Lumia 900

It may be too soon to ask but what the heck..
I've bought the ATT Lumia 900 and am waiting for it to arrive. I plan to unlock it to use on Telus Mobility in Toronto, Canada. I currently use the ATT Titan unlocked on Telus and sadly Internet Sharing is locked still ATT. Kinda silly considering I'm not even on ATT.
Wondering if anyone can report if it's unlocked on the ATT Lumia 900 once carrier unlocked..
Internet Sharing
I'm with you pistol44, I need to have internet sharing unlocked! Please, if anyone has any solutions to unlock this, post it here so other developers/people can view it. I might go back to my Samsung Focus if this is not unlocked soon.
We may need to wait for Tango in hopes to debrand it. When you "force" an update to the phone it actually debrands it unlocking this feature. It worked for me on an old T-Mobile HD7.
I really hope that forcing tango will do it! Just got my 900 shipped from US arrived today in UK such a great phone, need tethering unlocked though :/

Nope am using my trusty Lumia 800 still, am waiting for the unlock code, but have been told it could take a while :/
With the tango build for the 710 surfacing, might not have to wait too long before a flash could be attempted on the 900!
I generally use Blackberry and Android phones (work/play) so please excuse my ignorance, but I recently came across a pretty cheap Lumia that doesn't want to cooperate with me at all.
I'm unable to update it without errors, and so I'm wondering what you're all referring to when it comes to flashing WP7. I know how to do all this with Android/BB, but have no clue how to completely nuke this phone and start from scratch.. Is this even possible with it so locked down and if so, does anyone have any advice?

I'm unable to update it without throwing errors, and when I wipe it all the demo stuff just reinstalls itself so I'm wondering what you're all referring to when it comes to flashing WP7. That's a strollen phone from store. That's why it is so cheap.
The only way to override it sto find a factory firmware and flash it yourself. There is NO way you can use normal Zune update to recover from this.

I have a developer unlock (I ponied up the $99 to join the developer program). If I register the 900 as a developer phone, and then change the carrier, is that all that is needed to unlock internet sharing?

No. As I understand it, there is no way around this unless you flash to a non-AT&T firmware to replace the internet sharing software with the generic non-carrier version. Dev unlock only allows you to side load apps. That's about it.

That makes sense but it was the place itself that sold it.. A ma & pa type shop. guess they knew it was loaded w/ all the crap. If they couldn't get it off I doubt I'll be able to tho..
How do I flash firmware without zune? Or is it too difficult? Should I just go try & get my money back

First you will have to find a copy of the firmware from somewhere. Then you need find some Nokia utility to flash it to your phone. Each manufacturer has their own method. Who know if it its easy or difficult. Good luck.

its not that difficult actually. search for a software called Navifirm , it should allow you to download firmware for any Nokia phone and you will find all the firmwares for the lumia 800 by network provider. then you need to search for Nokia Care Suite (the latest version you can find). that will allow you to flash the phone.
both softwares can be found on the web.
good luck.

i have to tried to flash the Rogers firmware on the AT&T Lumia but i get an error that the signature file of the firmware is not valid.
i have been able to flash any firmware on the Lumia 800 but it seems they changed something with the 900.
that's really the only option. but right now only the AT&T and Rogers firmwares are available for download. I suppose as soon as the Lumia gets released to other markets, other firmwares will show up. a european or australian should resolve the problem as they are usually very close to stock.

US version last to get the Tango Update

so every other Lumia in the world has tango already available but 900 US version (rm-808) whats up with that?
Navifirm shows the Tango firmware for the 710 already, the only lumia without the firmware available is the US Lumia 900
Actually it's the North American version with this problem, as Rogers in Canada has no updates either. You can blame the carriers for this , as they requested the 'special' features and locks to be installed. This makes them very unique and not easily upgradeable as the carriers have to make sure their BS software and locks stay in place.
I would kill to be able to replace the startup carrier logo on boot.

And one thing to add, you guys are even more ahead then us in Canada. We still don't have the update that was released 2 weeks ago for the purple screen and other minor fixes...
maybe they want to push out a special update to cure all know existing bugs with the tango update together for you all?

Me don't think so. Tango was signed off and rolled out to carriers many weeks ago. Since then, the carriers have been 'testing'. Any hope of a lot of bugs fixes, is really a dream...though not impossible...because they may be able to add a supplement file to the update. But, no carrier can crack the Tango base code to fix anything....
Anyway, Tango is not the next great hope. Anyone hoping for more that a basic change...like MMS ....should really contact me privately...I have some swamp land for sale.

Buying a used Lumia 900 for use as PDA.

I personally do not have a cell phone, only an iPod Touch. However, I am interested in possibly getting a Lumia 900 used off eBay for purposes of using it as a WiFi-only PDA device. Plus, the Lumia 900 has one thing my iPod Touch doesn't have: GPS and turn by turn directions with offline maps. That, and a better camera.
One question, though:
Are all software and firmware upgrades handled by Microsoft/Nokia?
Yes, sort of. All software updates (OS and Firmware) are pushed by Microsoft through the Zune desktop software. But they have to be approved by whatever carrier is locked to the phone. If it's a carrier unlocked phone, then one less approval in the process.
With that said, there is more than one way to get needed update to your phone if you don't have the patience to wait for a carrier. My Surround (SIM free) does everything my Lumia can do except make cellular phone calls and send/receive texts.

Looking To Buy This Phone...Need Advice...

I am looking to get this phone and needed some advice. I haven't bought a cellular branded phone for a long while. I usually go with the USA Factory unlocked version. On this phone is the cellular named stamped on the back of the phone? I know the model for the USA Unlocked version is G820QM (with a 7 at the end at times) but it is honestly harder to find. What does everyone recommend on this phone in regards to getting the cellular branded one or should I keep trying to find the USA Unlocked version? What about bloatware with the different cellular branded ones? How is that? Can you get rid of the bloatware? I also like what I call the LG Branded ones as they get the updates faster do they not? Please help me. I am looking for a phone and this one stuck out at me unless someone suggests a different phone with similar specs to this one? Thanks so much! :good:

Unsure where you're from, but stay away from the AT&T unlocked model (my model G820UM), I'm from the UK and ordered one, big mistake, AT&T does not send any update to their phones if they are not using an AT&T SIM card in the US, some users have been successful in updating they're OS, by just using a AT&T SIM card outside of the US, some haven't and I haven't tried it, because I don't want to waste more money on a SIM card when the results are not 100% guaranteed.
There is no way of cross flashing a different ROM, so you will be stuck without updates, until someone finds a way of cross flashing a ROM from an unlocked model. I'm checking this forum regularly hoping some has found a solution, but nothing so far
If you are in the US and on AT&T then it will fine, bloatware (which is a lot) can be removed/disabled easily
Honestly, for the price I paid (£280), I think the Xiaomi Mi9 would have been a better option, similar specs, updates every 2 months and you're able to unlock bootloader, not the best process to unlock the bootloader, but still possible (just need to wait for permission from Xiaomi which could take a few weeks), you'll be missing out on the best headphone jack, better cameras (not by much) and better battery life, for a similar price I think this is the best deal for snapdragon 855 phone.
If you don't mind paying a bit more and want the same features as the G8, go for the Samsung S10.

Yep no luck, I've sold the phone, I was wasting too much time trying to find a solution, so just sold it and claimed my sanity back xD
Going back to the trusty Xperia 5, timely updates and great software and they are going for around £260 so easily recommended.
That's too bad, AT&T must be interfering, because I just purchased an unlocked G8 in Canada, and it updated to 10 over WiFi, before I inserted a SIM from my carrier (Bell Mobility). Phone was not on Bell originally.

Yep, this a AT&T "feature", want updates? Buy at AT&T SIM card and use it in the US, guess they don't want anyone outside the US to use their products, unsure why, but it is what it is...

Is 10 really that big a deal from 9? I have 9 on my phone i could care less if it gets 10 and I am pretty sure it wont , lol
I feel like if we have temp root then it's only a matter of time before we get TWRP and roms. I just picked up an AT&T model for $178. Not sure if it's unlocked, but fairly easy through AT&T. Just worried if we have an exploit, updating to 10 might invalidate it.
I come from PS3/xbox 360 hacking, haha.
