[Q] Anyone Else Missing Folders when Connected as Media Device? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am having a problem accessing folders/files while my Note 2 is connected to PC as Media Device.
Let me do state/clarify that I have no problem accessing any folder/file from phone when using any file manager app.
It's when I connect my Note 2 to my PC/and or Linux box, that I do not see all the available folders that I know should be there.
Some are completely missing and some are even showing up, BUT are being read as empty - particularly those that are hidden folders (that I purposely named them starting with a period to hide its contents) (yes, I have enabled "show hidden files" on my linux box as well)
This is happening on both Windows 7 and Ubuntu.
Now I'm not talking about system folders and files. I'm talking about missing folders from sdcard0 and extSdCard!
Here's the kicker though... If I remove my MicroSD card from my phone and insert it to my PC's card reader, all the missing folders/files are there!
WTF???
Is it because when using the cable to my PC the phone is being mounted as Media Device instead of an attached storage as when I insert the microsd card to my PC?
Anyone else having this problem?

Wow no one else is having this issue? It Cant just be me. It did it with the stock ROM and a custom ROM

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
Gonna have to look into a solution cause this is bullsh!t that I'm going to have to take my microsd card out every time I need to access all my files.

Ive always had an issue but its Ubuntu related. Windows its a driver issue.
-first try an removing device from device manager. Unplug and reboot. Install them fresh.
-make sure you have switched on to connect as MTP. When your connected, pull it down an see what options are available.

This seems to be a common issue with Samsung devices. I had the exact same issue and it drove me crazy.

Question about Mac comp & Android file transfer

I finally got my Note 2 (YAYYYY) and I love it but one question...does anyone have any success using android file transfer on Mac and it recognizing the Note 2? It keeps saying that it doesn't recognize my phone...I was having the same issues with my S3 when it received the Jellybean update. TIA

When ever Adroid itself swtiched from Universal Mass Storage to whatever it is now it hasnt been recognized by my Macs since then. Possibly on the Epic 4G Touch w/ICS, but not sure if it was that far back. I have a Win 7 VM on my Macbook, and a Win 8 VM on my MacMini that i just fire up when I need to mess with a droid, Or since the Samsung folks were so thoughtful not to cover the sd slot with the battery I just throw the MicroSD into a usb reader I keep on a keychain.
You can also use Kies to transfer files via your web browser. It should already be installed on your phone. Just fire it up and follow the directions. I found it worked pretty well to transer files in both directions.
I also found that with a micro usb adapter you can plugin any usb flash or external drive and it will auto mount on your phone. The only problem I've seen with this however is that the unmounter process doesn't seem to quit on it's own after pulling the drive. This then causes the cpu to be stuck at 1.6ghz and drains the battery pretty fast. So, I just reboot my phone afterwards.

Thanks everyone. I got it working. I had to install Kies then use the uninstall icon that came in the .dmg Kies file. Once I uninstalled Kies using this method AFT recognized my phone. All is well again lol

I wish Kies wireless didn't rely on the steaming pile on insecure code that is Javascript

Only way I was successful with Android file transfer was after un installing Kies. . Also make sure you are using the usb cable that came with your phone. I tried with my old usb cable and it wouldn't recognize.

You can also use Airdroid or Wifi File Transfer to transfer files wirelessly.
Mine works fine just make sure phone is unlocked when connecting it is all I have to do. AFT pops right up and sees phone and card.

I have another question. How do I disable mobile data when I'm using wifi in my house? I know on my S3 the toggle icon was in the notifications slide down menu but how do I do it in the Note2? Thanks in advance

[Q] Funky Storage Issue

I've got a Sprint Galaxy SIII, SPH-L710 16GB, no SD Card. When I connect the device to my computer (WinXP, latest Samsung Drivers Installed) I'm able to see files I have downloaded to the storage via the device itself, as well as an .apk that I moved over from my computer, but I'm not able to see the various folders (DCIM, Foursquare, Music, Goomanager, Etc...) Is there something I'm missing here? Phone is running CM10.1 JellyBro.
**In the attached screenshot you can see the various files and folders, when I try to access the storage on my desktop, all I can see are the GAPPS.zip file, and the WhatsApp.apk
I know when I connect mine (vistax64) it pulls it up as a media device should be able to see it under my computer. If not I would look under your media player settings. Or you may wanna check to see if USB debugging is checked on your phone

Thanks. I actually tried that. USB debugging changed nothing. When I threw an SD Card in though, it suddenly was able to see SOME of my folders... I'm gonna do a clean wipe and start fresh, using the CM10.1 Official Nightly. I really need to get this remedied. I'll circle back once I have some results.
Should be studying for my MA Life Insurance license, and not buggering with my phone... oh well.
Try a different USB port on the computer

Thanks. Unfortunately, that didn't work for me. I'm trying to make sense of the file system on this device, Emulated, Vs SDcard and ExtSDcard...

Accidental memory wipe please help!

I was using Astro file manager to clear some space on my phone, and noticed that I had a folder called emulated on there that had all the same files, figuring that was what was taking up so much space I deleted it. Now all my files are gone from sddisk0 too! Is there any way to reverse a mass delete like this??

Maybe try connecting to a PC (or Mac) and running an undelete prog. or check to see if there is an undelete app out their.

Just tried two apps from the marketplace once couldn't scan it the other just FC instantly :-/ I need to get my files back

The apps you are trying to use wont work as the phones internal sd is MTP and cannot be mounted as a disk. THIS HERE is your only option. Its a pain in the ass but youll get all your stuff back provided you havent been using the phone heavily overwriting the stuff u want to recover. Used this on two GS3's, a Galaxy Nexus and my Note II. Flawless if you follow the instructions

Am I missing something?

I have come from an xperia play, I used to be able to move apps to SD on it when it was running gingerbread or ICS. I have searched and searched but I cant even find it mentioned anywhere that this is not possible on the note 2. Any ideas?
It was also possible to mount the SD card to my computer, through usb sort of like a memory stick. I seem to only be able to to do a slow media transfer now.
This is my first post so forgive me if I have done anything wrong or something considered noobish.

Moving apps to sd is possible when the app lets you do it, just see the details for each app on the app manager.
As for the usb/media mode, guess you can't really choose anymore, but check your cable, mine seems pretty fast to transfer files

I have the 16GB model and I must say it fills up pretty fast. I am using DirectoryBind and it is working great for me. It requires root access and one or two reboots but it's well worth it.
Another solution to the low internal memory is a mod called Ext2InternalSd which basically switches between your internal and external memory. I find it quiete extreme as a solution but that's just my opinion.
We are stuck with MTP mode now instead of USB mass storage.
Its not bad, but at least with UMS I could see the previews of my images when connected to my computer. With MTP I can't

Welcome to jelly bean
scribbled from my note 2 (N7100)
ICS does not allow to install to SD Card/// You can run a script on a rooted rom that swaps the internal memory for the external... Look it up dude
Use airdroid. One of my favorite apps.. solution to mtp

Can't connect to Keis after rooting !

So I recently rooted my SGS3, then I tried connecting to Samsung Keis and can't seem to connect. The Kies action bar tries to connect but doesn't seem to be able to finish the process. Anyone else have this issue or a fix?? Thanks

Problem not worth fixing. Uninstall Kies.

Okay, what do you recommend I use that is similar to Keis with drag and drop feature??

Tell me what you need Kies for and I will suggest something.
Drag and drop what? Files? Use Windows Exploiter for that.
I'm trying to move large torrent files from my phone into my Mac. And Airdroid takes way too long

Playlist
I am having this same problem. I don't like using kies I usually use Monkey Media but could not get playlist to import with it. I am a huge playlist guy buy like to change them regularly on my PC. I find it a pain to make playlist directly on Note 2. Any suggestions?
Mac does not allow you to copy the contents of a micro SD to the hard drive?

I was able to prior to rooting my phone. I'm only using my Mac as a bridge so that I can move large files onto my 1terabyte Seagate external hard drive which is connected to my Mac...
This is so frustrating:banghead:
