[Q] Can someone with experience spare a min. or two PLEASE! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok so my 3 yo. son likes to play games on my GNex. I have not rooted or made ANY modifications whatsoever. He was in the middle of playing a game when it randomly reboots. He hands it to me on the google screen. It never boots. just sits. I have been from forum to forum. If i hold:
pwr + - volume i get the odin mode download screen. I have tried loading stock images through odin but it always gets to CDMA-Radio the very last step and hangs there forever (15+min.) battery pull.
pwr + + volume I get a black screen with a lock at the bottom. ( i have read that this means i have unlocked the bootloader but I have not, on purpose at least) battery pull
pwr + both volume i get a black screen. It kinda looks like the screen is on but just completely black. no fastboot mode. Battery pull.
the stock images i have found either do not work in odin or have broken links.
i am not sure if usb debugging is on like i said i usually dont mod phones. adb wont recognize. I just want a stock GNex back. Any tips tricks files or suggestions will be greatly appreciated and I have no problem donating to the cause
Also if i plug my phone into my pc and dont touch anything the battery symbol with the lightning bolt comes up. cant get rid of it unless battery pull. HELP!!

How long have you waited for it to boot. I've had some waits of 3-5 minutes before it gets past the Google screen. Im running stock 4.1.1
Although pulling the battery while the radio was installing in Odin mode might have made it worse. You might need to download the stock image from googles servers

over 30 min at times. i have read about these stock images but when i look for them i get broken links or something for fastboot and adb.

First off, if you see a padlock on the google splash screen, the bootloader is unlocked. Did you buy this phone used? Has it always been there? Is it possible he was playing for hours and the phone overheated? No fastboot mode is not good. You'll need to use odin to at least repair the bootloader, if not also to flash an odin flashable factory image. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 may help to teach you some of the basics, as you'll want to adb pull your data if you need it. Otherwise, warranty claim?

YES! this is your best choice, I do this ALL the time when I screw something up! Flash FH05 here are my instructions:
Sprint Galaxy Nexus Return To Stock Via ODIN:
1. Put "TAR" on the "PDA" Odin Section.
2. Make Sure To uncheck "F. Reset"... only have "Auto Reboot" and "PDA" checked.
3. Power Of the Galaxy Nexus.
4. Go into "Download Mode" press and hold the "Volume Down" and "Power" button at the same time for a couple of seconds.
5. START Android (Odin Mode) Appears...plug in the micro USB and let drivers install if necessary
6. Yellow CoM should appear if ready... Press start, it should take a while but the phone will go back to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean.
Bootloop Stuck (skip if it dosen't happens after Odin):
7. Pull The Battery and re insert it, press and hold all three buttons at the same time, Volume up, down and Power.
8. Then press volume down twice untill it says "Recovery Mode" then press The Power button to select it.
9. Phone will restart and "!" Android will appear... press and hold power and volume up then let go of volume up
10. Then "Wipe Data Factory Reset" and then "reboot system"
If you can reach Odin and your PC recognices the phone in it YOU ARE SAFE, not everything is lost!

I dont think so, it is just due to the fact that the phone is not physically "on" so it wont detect it as a Nexus, if odin pops up yellow then it should be fine... If the image is not flashing through under Odin it could be due to the locked bootloader. If u didint have any MODs on it, unlocking the bootloader is a process of runing a program to unlock it i dont think it was properly done after the image ftlash... U are always safer rooting and unlocking the bootloader so at least u can make backups but anyways... Try Power and Vol. Up again... is it still a blank screen or what do u see?

Failed updating from I9000XXJF3 to I9000XXJF7: white screen of death??

I think I can use a little help.
I tried to update my SGS from I9000XXJF3 to I9000XXJF7.
I followed the steps with Odin etc etc....bu now my device does not reboot anymore! It only shows a white screen with blue letters "AT&T WORLD PHONE".
I can not get the device in download mode or recovery mode anymore. When I'm pushing volume down + home + on/off button, it shows the same white screen.
What can I do now? I hope I didn't brick the device....
Can't even get into the menus to flash? Wow.. I don't think you can fix that.
Nope... this sucks big time! Pff I cant stand it anymore...i go to take a sleep now. Tomorrow i try again, but i dont feel like it is going to work!
I tried everything, volume up + home + on/off button = White screen
volume down + home + on/off button = White screen..

Mate, did you flash Captivate with I9000 firmware? They are, kind of, like 2 different phones...
You can use I9000 firmware, but only if you use standard modem file (that from what I briefly read, I can be completely wrong).

Did you remove the battery and force a fresh boot into download mode?
And yeah. Are you sure you don't have a captivate and not a SGS i9000?
Remove the battery which might force a reset of the device.
Once you put the battery back in see if you can get into Download Mode again then go through the reflash firmware again. Make sure your using the correct files.

Beat me to it.
I have the same problem, I tried to get the phone into download or recovery mode, but no success, it switches between AT&T white screen and black screen all the time...I'm trying since last night, this is frustrating...
Yes, exactly the same problem with my i9000. When I try to enter in donwnload mode I have a white screen with a blue text "AT&T world phone" and it is blincking.
Can't enter in download mode, can't flash new ROM witk Kies......I can do nothing...
Can anyone help me please? There is any chance to recover my phone back?
Thank you very much.
My e-mail is "[email protected]"
Yes, after hours and hours of studing the problem I can confirm:
By mistake, I was using Odin for Captivate , on trying to bring back to life my i9000.
Now, what can I do? There is any chance to get the phone in to the download mode?
Thank you very much for your time and patience...
OK you used the wrong ODIN version... but I thought ODIN doesn't touch the bootloader? So if this is also correct for the captivate version of ODIN, I think there is still hope.
Maybe you can find something useful in the captivate forum.

Download the correct ODIN, PIT and Firmware. Set them up on your computer.
Remove the battery, SIM and SDCard from your phone. Wait a few seconds.
Re-insert your Battery only.
Put the phone into Download Mode - volume down + home + on/off button
You might need to try this a few times I don't always get it first time.
Connect the phone to your computer by USB and confirm ODIN see's it.
Then flash the firmware again.
Wait for reboot then switch off and re-insert your SIM, SDCard.
Should be right now. Fingers crossed for you.

yes i did, but the problem is that where i live there is no AT&T which their logo is flashing onto my phone screen.
they might shoot me in the head.
I made this short video to show the problem

Yes, this is our problem.
Our mistake is that we don't look for correct Odin3 flash tool, and we used Odin3 for Captivate.
I have try in Captivate topic maybe find something usefull, but nothing. They us a light different method to get in download mode, but it doesn't work on my phone.
Always I get the same white screen.
I really don't know if the battery is charging in this white screen.

help - I did something bad

I know I didn't brick my phone because I can still get into bootloader. I've tried to connect to Odin (several times following instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc) and Odin won't recognize phone in bootloader. I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins and it never did anything. was I just inpatient? Now when I try to restart my phone it tells me manual files were installed and to hit the OK button. I have no OK button and I've tried all the screen buttons and the 3 hardware buttons to select 'reboot' as instructed per the phone and none work. So I pull the battery and start the vicious cycle all over again. I've been searching and searching (for the past 2hrs) trying to solve this on my own and I'm stuck. I need this phone as it's my work phone and I just got it Friday! (owned by me, not my company thankfully!) please help. thank you.

Pulling the cable on a Odin flash is the quickest way to ruin your phone. Should have left it plugged in and looked around real quick for an answer.

The only thing I can think of as I have never seen this B4. try holding power down,it takes awhile but it should reboot. I will try to get ahold of more info for you. No promises though. But rule of thumb Be patient.
One last thing where did you get the update from? ie 2.3.5. It helps to know what you were trying to flash.

Of the responses so far, I'd start with a new microUSB cable. Whether the current cable worked 30 seconds ago or not, that could certainly be a potential issue, might as well rule it out.
After that, a few things to consider:
1) Can you get into recovery? [Hold Vol. Up] + [Power] for as long as it takes to get to the recovery screen (anywhere from 15 seconds to two minutes of solid holding.) If you can get to recovery, you are going to be in business. If after 120 seconds it hasn't gone into recovery, move on.
2) In your post, you refer to "bootloader", technically correct, but want to make sure you are referring to Odin download mode. The whole "instructions to remove battery, restart pc, etc" throws me off, you shouldn't have to do any of that. Just to make sure, what you want to do is:
Start up Odin 1.85 on your PC
Power down phone
Wait for capacitative button lights to turn off
Simultaneously Press and Hold [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Connect USB cable to the phone and then to the PC
ODIN should show COM port in first slot
3) If you can successfully get into ODM and the COM port in the first slot lights up, you are golden. Follow the rest of the steps here and you are all set to move forward or hang out from that point.
4) "I was trying to update to gingerbread 2.3.5 using Odin and it got stuck. it said 'writing, wait 2 minutes' and I waited 8 mins" I'm thinking maybe you flashed with Bootloader, Phone or CSC selected rather than PDA in the Odin menu. If that is the case you should still be able to get into ODM as shown above.

"GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKI3.tar.md5"? Aren't you on the E4GT? So flashing all of these files for an international SGSII would be the first issue. What forum did you get these from?
This might be a big issue afterall. Get back to me on where you got the files and I'll see if I can come up with something in the meantime.
EDIT: One thing that will work for sure, but you'd have to wait for it to come in is a $2 jig. Once you get it, you'll back in business in less than 2 seconds. Mine took 5 days via standard shipping. You could do expedited shipping if you need it faster. In lieu of that, I will keep thinking about what you can do tonight.
EDIT 2: I know you said that you have driver's installed an all, but if you downloaded them where you got those files, they might not be what you need for this phone. You might try going to the E4GT Auto Root thread and get everything you need to start fresh from there.
Then/or try this again:
Disconnect phone, and remove battery (wait 30 -60 seconds or so).
Re-insert the battery and power the phone as I noted before by simultaneously pressing and holding [Power] + [Vol. Dn] until confirmation screen appears
Press [Vol. Up] to enter Download mode
Make sure NPS and KIES are NOT running IMPORTANT
Start up Odin v1.85
Keep trying to connect the phone to get a COM port lit. If it's not working, try changing USB ports. Try every port on your PC.
Keep trying, I've seen odin fail to recognize phones over and over and then
suddenly recognize it out of nowhere.

Yes, the jig should definitely work and it is a good idea to have one around anyway, just in case you ever need to go back to stock to return the phone or something.
But I am certain you can fix it at home in the meantime. I just need to remember or find how.

Yeah, definitely not the right files for our phone, but don't worry, yet, I think you can recover from this. The fear is that the radio is borked as those are GSM phones and we are a CDMA phone. I haven't really read much about this issue, but I know it has happened to others. If you have time, you might search around for something like "oops, flashed SGSII GSM files on my E4GT CDMA phone" or something like that and see if anyone else figured out the fix.
I did not think there was a update to 2.3.5 for the epic 4g touch. I thought only the European versions received that update. The only update I know of for our phones was 2.3.6.
Plz link or direct where you downloaded this update you flashed. If it is the European update you will need to install the drivers for that model for Odin to recognize your phone. Then reflash the proper update.

It should not kill your radio. I fixed a buddys phone that kinda did the same thing. Main thing is get the drivers for the euro sgs 2. Then Odin should see your device. Then use just s's guide from there.
One last thing the jig is not be needed. You can already get into download mode. Your phone is ready for flashing. What you need are drivers for the the computer to recognize your phone.

Yep, this is exactly right.
@nursemm05 you need to find and install the drivers for the phone who's files you flashed. Make sure you know where you save the driver files and where they are installed. In fact, make a backup of your system so that you can restore your PC after you get your ET4G back to good.
Once you can get back into Odin, flash the tar file (singular) that I linked to and you will be back at stock. Then you can hit the other links and you will be very happy with your new setup.
Then do a system restore on your PC to before the i9000 driver's were installed and you should be back to good there as well.
Good luck!

If you can put your phone in download mode you're not bricked.
Use Odin to get back to stock
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258628
Once that is done use CF Root to root with Odin

If you are stuck in a bootloop after running the recovery file in odin (it's 1.6 GB unzipped), which is the way things sound, pull the battery and go into stock recovery. Do this by replacing the battery, holding volume up, home, and power button until the ble recovery shows in the upper left then let go. In stock recovery, scroll down 9using volume button) to wipe data/factory reset. Coose that option with the power button. You will lose ALL data on your phone and you will have to go thru setup again. When it's done choose reboot in the menu and let it reboot. Don't freak if it takes a while. In a minute or 2 you will see the screen dim and it will boot. Go thru setup, root again, install custom recovery, and if you were wise enough to have done a backup tp your SD card, you can get it back.
Good luck, there are tutorials on Youtube if you care to search for them. Here's a good one -

Op, you're a little confusing.
Are you able to successfully use ODIN and flash stock firmware, but get stuck in a boot loop or freeze on Samsung splash?
Or ODIN fails?
From you're posts it sounds like both issues are occurring, but I think it's a posting conflict, and your issue is one or the other, unless I'm wrong, which I've been before
when i try recovery it goes to boot saying loading recovery than it goes full off and after boot screen again...i tried twrp and still nothing but the good thing is that odin passed that ..the only thing it didnt fail....maybe i didnt have the right rom ...i am downloading the official i9505 rom and i hope it will work this time....but plz if any1 can help i would apriciate it

Make sure you guys ODIN the correct Stock Firmware for your model device.
Make sure you ODIN the correct Custom Recovery for your model device.
And if you're Rooting, for example with CF-AUTO-ROOT by Chain fire, make sure you ODIN the proper version for your device.
In addition, check your USB cable to ensure it's working properly 100% of the time and have enough battery juice to perform the above procedures.
Odin problem
I have double check all the stock firmware. Got the files from 247extreme.com, given to me by DarkMenace. Several downloads of the same files...nothing seems to pass the MD5 check. The USB cable is 100%.

[q] help ! Nexus wont go in recovery mode or boot at all !

Hi all, I am fairly new to the world that is custom ROMS and custom recovery. I am not very experienced with either of these things but right now have an issue to deal with.
I have a samsung galaxy nexus i9250gt that was sold to me from a friend. He claimed that the phone was in a constant reboot cycle and no matter what he tried he was not able to get out of it. I decided to take on the challenge and have so far been unsuccesfull.
So, what I have done so far is download a galaxy nexus tool kit v11.0 and try flashing the stock google rom on to it. Did not work.
Also tried using odin to flash a stock rom on to it. Still the same issue.
The screen I seem to get is a Google logo with a unlocked lock near the bottom. The phone vibrates and then shows this screen before repetitively doing so till the battery dies.
I can sometimes get in to fastboot mode and CANNOT get in to recovery mode. The phone will sometimes just restart when i select recovery mode or it will show a dead android with a red triangle and an exclamation mark. I do not really know what to do from here
REPEAT: PHONE WILL NOT GO IN TO RECOVERY MODE SUCCESSFULLY, WILL GO IN TO FASTBOOT MODE SOMETIMES.
I would really appreciate a step by step guide on how to get out of this.
Thank you.
Try another toolkit

Are you using Odin to flash the firmware? Does it recognize that the device is connected?
What is the output in Odin when it fails?
To boot recovery turn device off.
Hold home, volume up and power.
When you see blue text flash at top of screen, release power only. Continue holding HOME and volume up in till you see recovery start.

Since I closed it off and reopened it, now it gives me neither a pass or fail, but prior to trying to flash I would constantly say fail.

I've actually held the 3 buttons for up to 40 sec to no avail. The blue words never showed up. It would pop up with the "ODIN MODE" and the error, then the screen would go back to black and would never give any other indications until I let go of the power. Even then it went back to the error.

First I thought it is soft bricked but reading on forums about the same symptoms I understood that the motherboard is finished so I need to change it.
I have tried many attempts with flashing with Odin but nothing. It enters download mode but not recovery.
Odin sees my phone but not kies. I do not think is an update problem.
But I bricked my phone with my wife's laptop and I have tried to restore it back on my own PC. Nothing worked but I read on forums that maybe the PC have a problem reading the phone through the USB port.
I thought is not my case as Odin recognized my phone BUT trying to flash again with Odin from my wife's laptop BINGO! It flashed it on the first attempt and boot normally in to my kit.kat Resurrection Remix Rom!

Happen to me as well. All you need to do in flash a custom recovery through Odin, in download mode, like TWRP or clocksWord mod. Once thats done install any rom you want through the recovery, put the rom you want in an external storage like a sd card.

Some details of the mobile versions since these differ from the OP.
I use a Samsung GT i9300 International Version, rooted and had flashed Nameless Rom based on Android 5.0.
Flashed TWRP or Philz Touchwiz CWM recovery (I dont really remember now)
The phone worked fine until recently when the battery started behaving bad!
(Small story short : On a vacation, my 1.8 Amp charger broke, and my phone crashed saying "Do a factory reset since the encryption during a restart failed". Forcefully, had to factory reset and my battery has been draining like mad ever since) When on wifi, the rate of draining was faster than the rate of charge on a 1A charger)
I was previously on a Slimkat Rom then.
I decided to flash Nameless Rom to see if the behavior changed.
The Rom was smooth but the charging issue persisted. I decided to buy a 2.1 A charger but one fine morning after an overnight charge, the phone didn't boot up. I assumed that the charge wasn't enough and I let it charge a bit longer. After several attempts, it booted up all of a sudden.
I believe this was a significant warning/indication of something possibly wrong with the ROM but I didnt bother to change it just yet.
Then came the surprise a couple of mornings later. The phone went into a boot loop displaying the WHITE Samsung logo with GT-I9300.
Tried booting into recovery, but it just doesnt load into recovery with Volume Up combination.
However, download mode comes up with Volume Down combination. So I was happy in a way that it wasnt hard bricked just yet!
Read somewhere asking me to flash recovery alone from which i could wipe cache and dalvik and try rebooting - So I downloaded TWRP latest version and flashed, but Odin failed to flash - Got a FAIL message and similar to quoted post after failed attempts.
Tried flashing Philz CWM, but failed again. Also tried flashing the Stock recovery too, but it just didnt pass!
Doesnt flash the recovery in whatever way I tried.
Now, I did read that flashing the stock firmware of GT - I9300 Intl version is the option I have left (approx 900 MB).
Will this flash the stock rom and reset the root?
Is there something that I have missed out on? Or I need to try something else before I try flashing stock firmware?
I need some pointers now guys, help me out!

Thanks for your quick reply.
Yes, I am using Odin. And it does recognize it.
Odin does this:
Since I closed it off and reopened it, now it gives me neither a pass or fail, but prior to trying to flash I would constantly say fail.
I havent seen any other color but red at the top on my screen, and that says "ODIN MODE" along with the error as stated in my first post when I try to get into recovery.
I've actually held the 3 buttons for up to 40 sec to no avail. The blue words never showed up. It would pop up with the "ODIN MODE" and the error, then the screen would go back to black and would never give any other indications until I let go of the power. Even then it went back to the error.
