So I'm liking paranoidandroid, but I really hate the camera app. Could I just backup the camera.apk in the stock AT&T ROM and then re-install it when I get on PA, or is it not as simple as that?
You could try it but I'm sure it won't work because I'm sure the stock camera relies on the Touchwiz framework and Paranoidandroid is aosp based.
Won't work but ucam and procapture are great options from the market
Either the PA framework or all camera apps use **** jpeg compression (probably 80% quality). I notice from my pictures on cleanROM the quality is almost perfect until you zoom in several times normal size. PA is blocky and aliased at standard zoom when I view it.

do you know if there's a cam on the market that allows for 240fps video shooting?

No. No smartphone camera sensor is capable of above 60fps currently.

I use CM7 and I like everything about it except one thing - I miss HTC Camera / Camcorder.
What I miss in particular is touch-to-focus in both camera and camcorder. Does anyone know of a good camera app which has touch-to-focus in camcorder and same amount of options as CM7 camera has?
Thanks.
+1
i faced the same issue. The stock HTC camera/camcorder combo is awesome.
I use vignette, little photo, pudding camera for photos and lgcamera for video
For camera i'd recommend using Camera360 ultimate...it has touch to focus n a lot lot more effect and customization than HTC Camera...For camcorder- I'm looking for a good replacement too..
Yeah Camera 360 is the best camera app, I've even bought the full version. I've also got Camera ZOOM FX.
But I really miss Sense camcorder and I'm thinking of flashing a Sense ROM (which I'm not crazy about)...
I will give lgCamera a shot.
EDIT: Wow, lgCamera is really nice, thanks guys! It has a lot of options and video quality is superb. ONLY thing it misses is touch-to-focus while recording, but I think I will be able to live without it, as I can quickly stop recording and refocus and record again. 720p 13Mbps + MPEG4 works like a charm

i have upgraded my gnex to android 4.2 but the hdr button on the stock camera is missing, i have searched this problem on google and then i found some article, it says that you have to download some additional lib files which is "libmmcamera_hdr.so" i downloaded and put it to the system/lib and changed the permissions, but still i cannot find any hdr button, anyone can help ??
thanks in advance
I think the HDR function is a N4 feature, not available on our hardware.
Galaxy nexus doesnt support HDR. Its all about hardware

Not all about hardware(it might due to slow shutter but it's not limited because of hardware).. in fact HDR is a software it is really simple technique. Google think HDR is so advanced photo taking technique only N4 with quad core can take it but in reality any camera can take HDR even film camera
So there's no mod to get HDR?
Could CM Mod it and we'd get it?
I know there's an app on the play store that mimics the AOSP Camera app perfectly so could that be our only future solution for HDR since it will copy it?
So far it's only at 4.1.2. The developer got to update his UI for 4.2.
Well, just use a proper camera to take hdr photos..
And the auto ones usually looks like a vomit of colors..........
Here's the new google camera, only work on 4.4+

Could anyone compare the quality of pictures taken from this with the stock sense camera? Could switch to CM11 if the quality is good enough.

Sense camera take better picture, but this is best for stock android, with photosphere and new feature (Lens blur),might try that out!
Can someone do a real comparison? With samples. Also does HDR+ work? If not than the quality should be the same as any other camera on CM11. In other words not that great.

The HDR does work, however you have to hold the camera very still. The panorama and photosphere functions are too buggy for me to use (the app often crashes when rendering). The orientation sensors don't seem to work properly for photosphere or panorama mode, sometimes it acts as if the device is moving when it isn't.
Still, the HDR mode and lens blur work.
HDR+ on Nexus 5 is a hardware feature so I guess it was expected but I'm glad it works.
I tried before the apks of old Nexus camera and accelerometer was not working properly. That's OK as our CPUs do not have necessary power to render panoramas or photospheres quickly enough.
Can you post HDR+ samples vs normal ones?
Any chance of having this ported to other android versions?
How could we change the image size to widescreen like on sense?

Hey guys,
So who's given the G3's camera a run using Google's Camera app? I've tried it several times alongside the native camera app, and I realize that Google's Camera app doesn't seem to work as great as the native app.
It seems the laser assist autofocus does not work on Google Camera, since it takes a second or so for the camera to focus, instead of a few milliseconds with the native app.
HDR on Google Camera does not work as intended, either resulting in an image looking like normally shot or even at times darker.
Video recording using Google Camera app is limited to 1080p instead of 4K.
There is one thing positive with the Google Camera app though, and that it has a larger field of view compared to the native camera app. The Google Camera app almost makes it seem that the native camera app is zoomed a few times closer than it should be. I'll try to take a comparison shot to show you guys what I mean, but you can simply download the app and try it yourself
Next, I will try how the camera works with CameraZoom FX app.
Well that was expecting since I believe lg made things to work with stock...but let us know which third party works best!

Coming from an N5, I quickly got the Google Camera after getting my G3, but then realized the only reason I liked the Google Camera was because I shot everything with HDR+. I do miss that feature from the N5, since the G3 does not a good job at white balance in some lights, and HDR+ would always get me great looking photos, but could only shoot static targets and would take a while to shoot.
I also tried VSCO Cam and it doesn't offer much when it comes to camera settings, so things end up looking almost the same as stock, but with the slower focus like you mentioned.
Did someone come up with a way to change the way the stock camera oversharpens low light photos? It's pretty bad.
Has anyone tried LG Camera on the G3?

I only installed the Google Camera for photosphere. There really isn't any other reason to.
Also, I think the stock LG camera does have a lens blur effect.

Has anyone gotten the stock camera app from OOS to work on LineageOS?
I've used systemizer to install the app to /ststem/priv-app but upon launching the app it crashes after it has gathered permissions.
Using the shortcut to Pro mode opens the app long enough to show an image through the camera. But it crashes nonetheless.
Or does gcam work nearly as well as the fancy stock cam?

The stock camera performs good but the Gcam is better in all aspects, it enhances the phone's camera to improve the quality of the photos and videos. I use Gcam in my 9 Pro which gives much better photos compared to the stock camera.
Sorry, gcam is not better, especially when you want features that are missing in gcam, like high resolution photo

But the high-resolution option in the stock camera gives a very sharp image that is not natural and Gcam gives photos with natural colors so I prefer it.

It's not about what you preffer. Most important thing - gcam is unable to use full set of camera hardware capabilities. Thus, it's not a real replacement. I can be only considered as additional software, nice to use. In my case, for 360 photos for example. I want to have both - stock and gcam.
But I'm not surprised you can't run stock gcam on non stock rom, because it probably requires some closed source libs, which can't be embedded eaisly, or have license issues.
Also taking videos doesn't work either.

Still hangs when you set 60 fps, even viewfinder is black. With config loaded. Without config, I can't use all cams and video is always 30 fps.
60/120 fps should be supported. So, again - gcam is not stock camera replacement. I only use it for 360 photos, astro and better night mode
