[Q] Why is the hdr button missing ? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i have upgraded my gnex to android 4.2 but the hdr button on the stock camera is missing, i have searched this problem on google and then i found some article, it says that you have to download some additional lib files which is "libmmcamera_hdr.so" i downloaded and put it to the system/lib and changed the permissions, but still i cannot find any hdr button, anyone can help ??
thanks in advance

I think the HDR function is a N4 feature, not available on our hardware.

Galaxy nexus doesnt support HDR. Its all about hardware

Not all about hardware(it might due to slow shutter but it's not limited because of hardware).. in fact HDR is a software it is really simple technique. Google think HDR is so advanced photo taking technique only N4 with quad core can take it but in reality any camera can take HDR even film camera

So there's no mod to get HDR?
Could CM Mod it and we'd get it?
I know there's an app on the play store that mimics the AOSP Camera app perfectly so could that be our only future solution for HDR since it will copy it?
So far it's only at 4.1.2. The developer got to update his UI for 4.2.

Well, just use a proper camera to take hdr photos..
And the auto ones usually looks like a vomit of colors..........

[Q] What would be the best up to date camera app for the Xperia S?

I'm running Cyanogenmod 10 now, but I really don't like the Android 4.1 (nor 4.2) camera app.
The 4.1 camera wastes a whole lot of viewfinder space for the on-screen capture button, while the 4.2 camera only does pictures up to 8 megapixels and it crashes when tapping the screen while recording videos (probably due to the Xperia S being unable to do touch-focus in video mode)
Therefore I'd like to know what the best, most functional camera app of the moment is, for Android.
I'd like to be able to take both stills and videos with the same app, as well as being able to switch scene modes and use other common settings.
And more importantly, it has to look right. I want to be able to access everything I need quickly and it should feel as if it were a stock app.
If anyone could help me and probably others too, It'd be greatly appreciated. :good:

G3 camera with Google Camera App

Hey guys,
So who's given the G3's camera a run using Google's Camera app? I've tried it several times alongside the native camera app, and I realize that Google's Camera app doesn't seem to work as great as the native app.
It seems the laser assist autofocus does not work on Google Camera, since it takes a second or so for the camera to focus, instead of a few milliseconds with the native app.
HDR on Google Camera does not work as intended, either resulting in an image looking like normally shot or even at times darker.
Video recording using Google Camera app is limited to 1080p instead of 4K.
There is one thing positive with the Google Camera app though, and that it has a larger field of view compared to the native camera app. The Google Camera app almost makes it seem that the native camera app is zoomed a few times closer than it should be. I'll try to take a comparison shot to show you guys what I mean, but you can simply download the app and try it yourself
Next, I will try how the camera works with CameraZoom FX app.
Well that was expecting since I believe lg made things to work with stock...but let us know which third party works best!
I use the Google app for photosphere and lens blur.

Coming from an N5, I quickly got the Google Camera after getting my G3, but then realized the only reason I liked the Google Camera was because I shot everything with HDR+. I do miss that feature from the N5, since the G3 does not a good job at white balance in some lights, and HDR+ would always get me great looking photos, but could only shoot static targets and would take a while to shoot.
I also tried VSCO Cam and it doesn't offer much when it comes to camera settings, so things end up looking almost the same as stock, but with the slower focus like you mentioned.
Did someone come up with a way to change the way the stock camera oversharpens low light photos? It's pretty bad.
Has anyone tried LG Camera on the G3?

I only installed the Google Camera for photosphere. There really isn't any other reason to.
Also, I think the stock LG camera does have a lens blur effect.

[Q] Camera apps that support hardware HDR?

Other than the stock camera, and Google Camera, I've yet to find a single camera application that actually supports the Z1C's HDR camera mode, all applications will take multiple shots and then do software HDR, whereas the camera is capable of doing HDR on its own (or so it seems when I use the first two applications).
Is there a reason why applications that use Software HDR can't just use the hardware version when installed in a device that supports it? Why I can't find other apps that use it?
I am not satisfied with the stock or Google camera, yet I don't want to give up HDR support to switch to something else :/

I think he means that we have a HDR capable sensor..
Try Camera FV5 .. Someone told me that camera 360 app takes good pics in sony.. try that also..
Is there any reason that the sony cybershot camera apps package included in Sony STOCK ROM 5.0.2 can't be installed with any lollipop ROM....?
I have CM12.... and once MultiROM is available for the Z1c I'll be installing lots of ROMS to try them out but would be good to have Sony's Camera, and Walkman that work across all of them.
Can the Sony camera apps package be extracted from the system SIN file within a SONY STOCK lollipop zip and installed into any ROM...?
The Walkman app works.... I already have it.... just can't seem to find the camera apps anywhere

Stock camera being Sony....? So are you on Stock ROM or have you found somewhere to download the original Sony camera apps package and installed them....? I'm looking everywhere trying to find the apps package with no luck so if you can help that would be awesome,
EDIT:.... I now have Snap... very nice HDR capability but have no idea if it's using the Hardware of the cybershot...?

Camera app with HDR+ enabled

Hi all -- When I purchased a Moto Z late last month, I was excited about the device's performance but blind to the fact that I was going to lose the HDR+ camera mode that I had become so accustomed to with my Nexus 6.
This got me working on some potential solutions -- and after decompiling the Camera NX app posted on chromloop.com, I was able to change some settings that enable full HDR+ photography on the Moto Z. So if any of you are craving being able to take photos with Google's HDR+ mode, here is a modified APK that will allow you to do so: http://www.mediafire.com/file/l8num4lyw05vybt/Camera4-hdrplus.apk
I have been using it for several weeks on my Moto Z, and I can confirm that the HDR+ images come out looking much better than those taken with the stock camera app or even the same modified Camera NX app with HDR+ disabled. It's slightly buggy (low-light images are only occasionally not saved) but a great solution for any Moto Z users afflicted with the Nexus blues. This should also work on other devices with equivalent Camera2 API support; if you are wondering whether it will work, just try it -- if HDR+ images are successfully captured, your device supports the needed API calls.
Can you enable RAW capture and manual control?
Hello, I installed the camera application, but when I go to slow motion mode, App crashes. Any solution?
Will this be continually developed?
Because this is a wonderful addition. Just needs some bug fixes and it'll be seriously golden.

I'm afraid that ongoing development of this app might be challenging, as I'm no expert in modifying decompiled apps, which this is (as the official Nexus/Pixel camera app is closed source). The extent of my modifications, believe it or not, was to return a constant boolean value of "true" for a function that checks whether a device is a Nexus 6P -- so the app enables HDR+ as the app is hard-coded to enable all functions available on Nexus 6P devices. It just happened to be very lucky that HDR+ is supported! -- I'm not so optimistic about being able to enable slow motion video, RAW capture, or manual control, but I will keep those in mind next time I have more time to work on this.

Thank you so much for this. I see a big difference with HDR+. I've had the Nexus 6P and Pixel, I know how great HDR+ is. It's sad that Google closed source their app.
Let us know if you can enable RAW, because HDR+ takes 3 RAW photos for the composition, so theoretically RAW is supported by the app.
This is awesome! So far with just a little experimenting today with a Force, I can see the difference. I look forward to testing it further.

This is incredible! How did you figure out how to bypass the checks and actually enabled the hdr+? Google never open sourced this so how were you able to get it to work? Many have tried to get hdr+ but failed.
Today's testing was outside and yielded mixed results. I'll continue to experiment.

I created a little album on Google Photos demonstrating the difference between regular shots, the stock app's HDR mode and HDR+. They are shot in that order but I have put them in the description in order to aid identification. Differences can be subtle but often, they are very dramatic.
If you need to know, my variant is an unlocked standard Moto Z running Android 7.0 that's also rooted. It also has a 1/3" 13MP Sony IMX214 with 1.12-micron pixels and an f/1.8 aperture. Pretty sure the Force will do better since it has a larger sensor at 1/2.4". Regardless, HDR+ makes a significant enough difference that it has become my main camera app. If I still had my Note 7, I'd be drooling right now.

Thanks for sharing this. I've done something similar with the Force camera.. It's a mixed bag to me. Often HDR+ did a better job with the sky, but often its shots were too dark to me. I've seen a bigger difference with indoor shots.
Thanks for the sharing. Hope moto can implement HDR+ to its own camera app.

Yeah, the 6p and pixel both exhibit the same thing, most of the the time their shots are going to look darker (if you compare them side by side to other phones)

You know, I wonder if this works with the Hasselblad mod.
I've always thought that the issues with the Hasselblad camera are software-related since the sensor is likely the same one from the 6P. If HDR+ and better processing can save it, color me impressed.

How to enable google camera 4k on custom roms (i.e. ResurrectionRemix)

Hey guys,
I really like the google camera but it seems like I can't get 4k (30fps) video recording up and running. If I switch it on, the camera force closes, no matter what I do or what version I use.)
Right now I am at the latest version of saneklic (2018-07-21; MGCamera_5.1.0.18_R5Plus_v.5.1.17_fix_crash.apk)
I know about the tutorial claiming you need to enable it in some "whyred.xml" which is in a "device feature folder" (a folder somewhere in system/etc/) or something like that, but there is no such thing in a custom rom: it exists only on MIUI. I've already tried every tutorial possible, but nothing helps.
4k is working with the lineage snap, the google camera picture quality is much better though and I really prefere the gcam (because of additional settings/mods)
Thank you very much, any help is very much appreciated. If someone can help me, I will donate you a coffee :highfive:

Hey man, I'm really disappointed so far by RN5, I couldn't find a way to record stabilized 4K on custom roms, not even with Open Camera which worked fine on MIUI 10. I have a two year old RN3 which records 4K with gcam (not stabilized) and takes slightly better photos than RN5.
So far i've tried RR, LOS and AEX. 4K recording crashes any camera I've used. Open Camera just gives an error. Waited 2 weeks to unlock bootloader, thinking it will open the gates of heaven. In fact been through hell since I unlocked(yesterday). Antirollback is like a minefield which I luckily avoided, then front camera barely works with gcam, some slight battery drain with custom roms and now 4K recording is broken. Feels like I've downgraded my phone.
Think I'll try to flash MIUI 10, root it, enable camera 2 api for gcam and use Open Camera for EIS enabled 4K. Btw the latest gcam by alone_in_dark works best, even front camera works quite good, try it.
Edit: I flashed MIUI 10, once I enabled camera2 api 4K doesn't work. So it's either 4K or HDR+. Thanks Xiaomi.

Can't say no to that. But since 4K (3840 × 2160 resolution) doesn't appear in open camera after enabling camera2 api, I don't think there's a fix for that. It appears only 4000 x 2000 2:1 which gives an error. I did manage to get 4K working with another third party camera, but without EIS. Because RN5 can record 4K with excellent stabilization it's a pitty not to use it. So now if I want to record something I just use another build.prop without cam2.api then reboot, and switch back to enabled cam2.api prop when I want to use HDR+

Hello my friend, it seems you can have it all, I finally found a way to record 4K with EIS while having camera2 api enabled. I'm really happy now and overall satisfied with the phone. Only issue remaining is the front camera HDR+ which is beyond my knowledge, hopefully someone else will come with a fix.
So now, how I managed to record 4K? I'm on MIUI 10 (8.7.12), and using latest blackbox kernel by KunalKene1797. Don't know if these have any effect, but I thought it's good to know.
The third party camera I'm using is Snap Camera, there are certain settings which need to be enabled. I'll post a video with the settings I used and which worked best. 4K Video Support and Use Camera2 API being the most important ones. There could be other settings which could improve the recording, but I like to stay on these stable settings, because I'm pleased with the results so far.
Here's the video with the settings needed in Snap Cam https://youtu.be/gRj9LhYWv5Y(video is back)
Here's the first 4K video https://youtu.be/oQGc4gXnGU0
A test for auto-focus https://youtu.be/V41k21qKQpE
No EIS sample vs EIS https://youtu.be/_qNFNs2gq74 VS https://youtu.be/00J-3cAzLjg
Edit 1: I also tried setting higher bitrate than the default 42, however in windows at the details on the first video it shows 40 total bitrate and when setting to 64 it shows 42, either way it seems the quality was marginally improved. I guess the phone can't write faster than that or the storage doesn't allow it.
https://youtu.be/Q7Lqlr-QanA
Some stuttering can be seen from 0:08 to 0:11, but I think that's because the phone started thermal throttling, it's very hot outside and from all the testing, phone was quite hot too.
I really hope it works for you as well, take care.

Yes, it happens to me as well, in the first 8 to 10 seconds, I think it's the cpu, it can't use EIS very well with 4K. Without EIS there are no dropped frames or stutter issues.
A suggestion would be to use a very fast micro sd card, haven't tested, but worth a try.
After about 4-5 minutes the phone gets quite warm and stutter is inevitable due to thermal throttling.
