I am looking for someone who can give me step by step instructions on how to modify an image file in a graphics editor. .I do not care which one. . Only Program I know how to use is paint And it doesn't retain transparent backgrounds.
I am making my first ever rom and I want to modify a lot of graphic files. If some one can just give me step by step instructions on how to change the colors on one I can repeat that for all of them..
Someone please help me. .
Thanks

So I dunno what I did wrong last time but tried paint. Net again and this looked different. . I think I might be able to do something with this. . Don't know what I did last time. . I thought it was something online but this is a downloaded program. . We will see. .I did edit a graphic and Kept transparency so that is a step in the right direction. .
What is the story with 9.png graphics?

Alright, so I have been using so many roms lately and I remember that one of them had a real clean SMS / mms layout and if anyone could help me find it I would be greatly appreciative!
It had a dark grey background and blue and white message back grounds. BUT each of the mesaage back grounds looked like post-its with a corner turned up. I really want the apk so of anyone can direct me to the ROM that would be awesome! Thanks

Here are some quick red mods i did so far on Josh's Jellybomb (any of his custom images, are his rights). I'm not an expert.. But did this to have my own touch of red.. Everything isn't red, as I had to theme my own keyboard, telephone, contacts and others to get most things red... I could post those if wanted.
Unzip the attached and place in right directories.. Remember to back up original files or rename. Easier to do if you move files while in recovery. You can do using root explorer but may encounter errors since files are in use at time.
Replace these files in the proper folder.
1)
framework-res
twframework-res
Both of these go in: system/framework/
2)
SystemUI.apk
SecSettings.apk
Place in: system/app/

I need that red theme bad. Can you show in baby steps ( step by step )
I based my concept off of a clean black and deep red stock look! How do I make a flashable zip to test only the theme without flashing the entire Rom?

So apparently my account still thinks I am a noob and I cannot post to the actual thread for the MIUI ROM. But I saw a recent post from a user asking about changing carrier text. I flashed the MIUI Rom yesterday and there is an app on your home screen called JB Control Panel. You can change carrier text in there. As for the dev who is porting this one over for us....Thank you sir! I have been flashing and modding phones for more than 3 years and MIUI has by far been my favorite and I am so happy to have a perfectly working MIUI on my SIII.
Note: I have zero issues. Even Google Voice works perfectly for me with just a clean install and no need for any tricks.

So I am still trying to build my own rom. I have been unsuccessful to date.. do I thought I would take this in smaller bites. I decided to start by incorporating mods already made into a stock rom in Hope that would give me the necessary hands on experience. So I took to mods for ma7 and attempted to meld then into my stock rom.. the first one(4 in 1 mod) worked. . I was estatic.. excitedly I attempted the second mod (all apps multi tasking) but it did not work. Got no multi tasking bar at all. . I have been digging and digging trying all different things and just can't get it. .can someone help me. .

How are you incorporating them? You might need to fix permissions when you flash them or change the permissions in the updater script. What are you using as your stock rom?
Edit: Have you run a logcat? That could give you a starting point to start looking.
Edit #2: Double check when you recompile framework/apks. Sometimes when something just doesn't show or breaks like that it didn't compile correctly with your apk-tool.

Ok you can start laughing at me now. . All I did was take the changed files out of the zip file and put then in my rom zip file ... I am just trying to figure this out and I thought it looked like all the update did was unpack the stuff I was set. . Would the permissions not being right cause it to break it all together like that. . I think I remember the update script for the all apps mod set permissions. . I will start with that and see how it goes.

The multi Window mod most likely changes stuff in the updater script, make sure to read through that and see what the script is actually doing.

Yeah I had looked at it but for some reason deemed it unnecessary ha ha ha. Can I just add the necessary items from that updater script to my roms updater script? So maybe I am not as far off as I originally thought. . We will see in the am. .
Thanks

That is what I would try. Aren't those mods MA5? It is possible that MA7 makes significant enough changes that it breaks the mod.
Ps. I wouldn't laugh, at least you are trying to learn. That is what xda is for.

They work fine with ma7 as if I flash the mod on a base system the mod works..
I have tried exery thing. I copied over all the parts of the updater that seem relevant. I have no idea what to try next. If I flash it without wiping system the multi window works but that is clearly left over from previous rom since If previous rom had all apps than all aps are present and if not then they don't. ..
