If you have any knowledge about theming please post help and toturials here.
Let's all come together on this to give our awesome devs a break!

Here are some quick red mods i did so far on Josh's Jellybomb (any of his custom images, are his rights). I'm not an expert.. But did this to have my own touch of red.. Everything isn't red, as I had to theme my own keyboard, telephone, contacts and others to get most things red... I could post those if wanted.
Unzip the attached and place in right directories.. Remember to back up original files or rename. Easier to do if you move files while in recovery. You can do using root explorer but may encounter errors since files are in use at time.
Replace these files in the proper folder.
1)
framework-res
twframework-res
Both of these go in: system/framework/
2)
SystemUI.apk
SecSettings.apk
Place in: system/app/

so i kinda started to get into theming and im doing well i think lol but i wanna know how to get templates for the roms i wanna make a theme for i got one for el30 (thanks travmofosho) but i wanna try and theme cm7.2 beta 1 but im not sure if i would have to theme the orginal rom file or is there a certain way to get a template or something less than the full rom that i can just flash over it?
Well the key to theming is proper punctuation and grammar.
So start with that.
And really all you need to do is download a ROM and rip the files out. If you want to theme CM9, download CM9 and extract the appropriate files. Same for EL30.
I remember someone had the files pre-ripped and ready to go back in the day. Maybe you could be the one to pick that back up!
It depends on whether you want it to work with theme changer or not. If not then just pull the framework-res and systemui out of the ROM. But for CM7 if you want it to work with theme changer you will need to rip apart an apk that is set up for it like androidian or cyanogen from the ROM or download one that is close to what you want and mod that. If you google making a theme for cm7 a tutorial pops up in the list.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
Lol, well alright, im just used to typing without caring. I'm not trying to get it to work with the theme chooser app. I just want it to be a flashable .zip since it seems that development for cm7 has kind of slowed down so I can use my theme until its updated. So basically all i have to do is delete all the files from the ROM and keep the things that get themed like systemUI.apk, framework-res.apk, and the other things?
And about making templates for other ROMs i would just make them and post them in the themes section..? I need an account to upload files though. I'll have to sign up with something.
XDA allows up to 12 Mb in a zip file which will handle most themes with a couple of system apps. And yup, you are good to. Just yank out the framework and systemui and have at it.

zz_stat_sys_signal_#_sprint this is what they are named substitute the number for the actual signal amount =]

Not to hard you need to install java developer kit... and then the android sdk.. and install the resources for gingerbread or 2.3... once thats done get apk manager or apktool. you use apktool/manager to decompile the res and change the values/colors.xml.. its a little hard to explain to someone who just started youll get there though i did eventually.
You could always throw it into the kitchen and change the background color of the menus or change the text to white.

I think the kitchen would b an easier solution lol or at least just for now
But I'm having one other problem
I used a template provided by travmofosho (I think that's his name srry if I spelled wrong) and the bootanimation says "nashdogg" lol cuz he made that for him and I can't seem to get rid of it I tried applying a boot ani from the kitchen but it doesn't stick over it how could I get that out..?

so i wanna just make sure from one tiny thing. I want to make a theme for the cm7 beta 1 so i deleted everything except for systemui and the framework is that what i need to do? is there any other files i shouldnt have deleted?
-You need a xml editor for this. Something like Notepad++
-This mod is untested because I dont have the device at the moment.
-Make a backup of your current framework-res.apk and Systemui.apk files
-After 2 weeks I believe I found all of what I need for this MOD after going through the framework and Systemui of my Galaxy Nexus
-This did work on my Galaxy Note
-Please try at your own risk
How To
1. Decompile the framework-res
2. In the values folder you will find bools.xml
3. Open up the file and search for "config_showNavigationBar"
4. This should be false, change it to True
5. Open up the dimens.xml and search for "navigation_bar_height"
6. Change the value there to either one of these because im not sure how it would look (25, 30, 35)
7. Recompile your framework-res.apk
8. Extract or Decompile the systemui.apk
9. Navigate to the drawable-hdpi folder
10. Download these NavBar_Icons images and place them in that folder
11. Zip or Recompile the systemui.apk
(OPTIONAL)
After completing the above
Disable the light on the capacitive touch keys(Home-Back-Menu-Search)
1. Decompile the framework-res.apk
2. In the values folder you will find arrays.xml
3. Open that xml and search for "config_autobrightnessbacklightvalues"
4. Change all values to 0
5. Recompile the framework-res.apk
Thanks!

People have always wanted them. We were just pushed aside by those who think only their opinions matter. Its part of ics and actually a cool feature. Now those manufacturers making them hardware keys in their néw devices is just stupid. I can understand not wanting them on existing devices but new ones come on. What about the consumer

Hi all,
I have looked all over and tried a few patches here and there and tried modding the file apk's myself but keep ending up with issues so I thought I would ask if there is anyone that would be will to make a blue/green theme or that could help me with issues I am having to do it on my own. Was able to change colors of files and such on my 3D but on the SIII it just keeps causing issues.
What I am trying to do is something like JellyBomb for most things but with highlights of neon green (close to stock green) here and there like in the toggles, few notifications, the spinner (green outside, blue inner). Or something like the Anaconda theme in the works but with blue/green of course.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Are there any settings that you would recommend to make this work with the SIII or if there are certain theme portions that I should stay a way from?
Thanks

Was using freegs3 by Clark. I had read something about different systemUI files but I didn't know how to tell which one I was on after searching or how to tell which was loaded with the ROM. I may give a try with another rom tonight if you think that would work or if there is one you would recommend that you have confirmed working with UOT. OK so I'm trying to learn how to them but I a little stuck. OK so I opened framework. A pk then all the drawables made all my changes. I changed the dialer the text select and all of the top icons like batt status and a whole bunch of stuff. Then i made a zip. Of the framework folder and the meta.inf but it would trybtp install the ROM. So I had to re flash my ROM. Then what I did was I took the meta.inf from another theme. And made that into a zip along with my framework folder. This made some of the changes that I made but not all of them. For ex didn't change the batt colors. But it changed the dialer. Didn't change non of the toggles at the top but it changed the pop up browser... Help plzz.

A ROM's updater-script is a lot different than a themes. The reason it failed is because a ROM's script checks for certain files before flashing (such as the kernel, certain apps, etc...). When it saw your zip didn't have it, it aborted the flash.

Wow, didn't know I was known here lol. I accidentally came here. I meant to go to T-Mobile s2 but came to s3 lol. Glad I could help anyway. I wouldn't mod a ROM's updater-script. You're better off using someone else's theme and replacing your own files with there's. Which of course, you already did so you're on the right track.

If its baked into the rom, theres no way to (easily) extract it because it was created by individually modifying each app
Check the rom zip and if its in an app, then its apk will be in the "system/app" folder of the zip or in the "data/app" folder
If it is there, grab it and install on the rom you're on

Are you on the Sprint version, or one of the ports? I don't know why they posted in the port threads to ask me about getting the blue theme for it. It's the actual Rom and the other 2 are the themes. And if you're on the Sprint version I do have the mod to remove brightness slider in my updater. If it didn't work on the ports then you will need to ask kalisjr about making it work. I just made the Sprint version and I'm not sure what all he's done to make it work for the other carriers. I'll try to get in contact with kalisjr and see why the mod isn't working with those.

I'll have to find the exact line and pm you when I get home. But it's in systemui/res/layout/tw_status_bar_expanded.xml.

I will get it together for you. I figure the reason that it is causing fc, is because he probably hasn't updated to my new SystemUI and Settings for the clock mod. So when you flash the morph for my new SystemUI, it's causing the older version that he is probably using to fc. That would be my guess.
