Root after 4.1.1 OTA Update? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

How can i root an s3 t999v (wind) after doing the ota update for 4.1.1 jellybean?
Can i just follow the same steps used for the ICS guides?
If anyone could share a link to a guide that would be great.

so i need to download the 4.0.4 firmware from that thread, and flash it in odin.
Then i need to follow the normal root method video?
Also which firmware should i download for a stock t999v wind s3? There are so many.
Thanks

Why do you think you would have to downgrade? Why would you downgrade to ICS, root, then update to JB, losing root again?
Just flash CWM/TWRP with recovery and flash Superuser with chosen recovery. The t999v is d2can right? Just for reference, your firmware should be on this page: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-T999V&pcode=VTR#firmware, assuming you are on Videotron.

im on wind with a t999v
the reason i was asking to downgrade was because in this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775616
it says that in order to follow the steps, you must first restore the stock ics firmware.
what i want to do is:
-install cwm
-flash superuser using cwm
-then maybe later a custom rom
Is it necessary to downgrade?
If it isnt can someone show me a step by step guide that shows you how to root/install cwm while on 4.1.1
Thanks

Just flash the latest root66 in Odin and you will be updated with root. If you want a custom recovery, download goo manager from the play store to flash TWRP recovery.

You don't need to reinstall an entire rom, thats way too much work.
This is the easiest method I have found.
http://androidjinn.com/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-t999-uvdlja-android-4-1-1-jelly-bean-firmware.html/2
Flash the autoroot package from that article, and you are rooted. Then once you are rooted, you can then install a custom recovery with something like Rom Toolbox from within android.

Thanks that looks good. I just have a couple of questions.
This guide is for the t999. I have the t999v, does it matter?
Also the guide is meant for s3 running T999UVDLJA firmware.
Is there somewhere i should check to confirm that is what i have?
Btw i have a wind mobile s3 if that helps,
Thanks.

nevermind, i used the root66 method
and i am now succesfully rooted

Going back to rooted stock jellybean ROM from CM10.1

I wish to return to a rooted stock JB ROM from CM10.1 . CM10.1 is too buggy for me, and CM10 had one bluetooth bug in the final release that was kind of a game killer for me. I'd like to go back to stock JB but keep my custom recovery. The only files I've found for stock jellybean are full stock in that they'll flash over my recovery as well as my system. Does anyone know where I can find a root stock image that will let me flash just the system and keep my recovery like any other rom, so that I can flash back to CM10.1 when it is more stable. PS I am also on Linux and do not regularly have access to a windows machine so I do not have access to Odin, or Kies.
after you flash to stock just flash a recovery, that's what i've done.
also, this is the wrong section and you should search first.

I searched and found only "One click" stock roms, and the "Fully Stock" roms. Neither of which solve my problem. Did you even read the portion of my post where I say I don't have access to Odin, or Kies or any of that? My only option for flashing is CWM. And I'm not sure how well overwritting CWM while CWM is flashing would work, but I don't think it would go well.

find a cwm flashable zip of a stock rom. it doesn't need to be a current version. flash that. then find the cwm flashable ota zips and flash those. you've retained root, and cwm. i have done this process as well.
i'd link you to the threads you need but i'm on my phone and it's difficult to find this way.
edit: one of the otas is here. i haven't found anything about updating to jelly bean, though. i know there's a tutorial somewhere about making cwm flashable zips, i might try making one for you after i get my sister to sleep.

Need Help! New to flashing. Samsung Note II

Hi there,
So I have a GT- n7105T (Samsung Note II) with android 4.1.1 and I want to flash it to android 4.2.2. Also, in the future I want to put custom roms.
Can you guys link me to tutorials for this? and suggest some good roms (with links) that won't effects the functions of the n7105T because I heard its different from the n7105.
I'm from Australia by the way!
I did more research the past few days, can someone confirm that this is correct?
1. Download original firmware of your current android (mines 4.1.1), and then you use Odin to root the device (flash) using the original firmware you downloaded.
2. You then install ClockworkMod Recovery to allow custom roms
3. Install the custom ROM
Anyone?
Yes you did that right. Now find Roms that Are Compatible with your SGN 2

Flashing Stock 4.1.2 ROM through PC odin over 4.1.1 is same as upgrading over OTA.
Just download your country latest 4.1.2 ROM and Flash through PC odin as per guide. It will not wipe your data.
4.1.1 Roms contains SDS bug, so upgrade to 4.1.2 before rooting.
After rooting you can flash CWM recovery as you need.

So, does this mean I have a fresh copy ROM? My old one is gone?

CWM recovery provides some advance setting compare to stock recovery.
Like you can take nandroid backup (rom backup) with this, but stock recovery don't.
It depends on your choice.
But CWR also increases binery counter in every boot to recovery. Follow the Dr.ketan's guide for more details.

first of all,i recommended you to make back up all of important data on your phone such as picture, apps or any important things to you since failure of flashing still have if you make a mistake
this is my method and its works on my galaxy note 2 N7100
1.get Odin and CF Autoroot for rooting the phone, klik into PDA then select the root file and then klik the start button, make sure success :victory:..
2.download custom recovery such as cwm advanced edition, klik into PDA then select the cwm file and then klik the start button, make sure no fail
3.then get custom rom, copy into your externad sd card and then flash using custom recovery
all the best :victory:

Does anyone know about how ClockworkMod is installed? Is it installed ONTOP of the stock ROM or does it replace the ROM?
Does it have specific versions for different models? I ask because I have the N7105T version which is different to the N7105 as it uses a different frequency.

Installing CWM recovery will just replace your stock recovery. Not full ROM.

[Q] Can't Root? What are my options?

I have an i747M, from Fido (rogers) running the stock 4.3 firmware. yesterday i tried to root it using odin to install CWM, and then CWM to install supersu.
after successfully installing supersu, i restarted the phone, and got knox blocking the app. i updated it from Play, but then i couldn't open it, and it said it can't install the binary. when my phone asked to update the security certificates, i (stupidly) agreed.
i downloaded the .zip for supersu 1.89, and tried installing that, with the same result, but this time i also can't uninstall supersu.
i've bumped my binary counter, but i'm back to basically stock now.
my goal is to install aokp. is there a way to do it without gaining root first?
if i install CWM through odin, can i flash the aokp rom from CWM?
will the phone reset the recovery?
is this risky?
You could try installing a pre-rooted Rogers rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I was not able to find a pre-rooted 4.3 for Fido and, since you intend to install a custom rom and recovery, the pre-rooted Rogers ROM might be a good place to start.
It's there a reason to install a rooted rom before aokp? As far as I can tell, I can install aokp without rooting at all.
or am I missing something?

Yes, you can just install a custom ROM without rooting first.
I mentioned the prerooted ROM because you post said you wanted to install su.
Ok, please confirm i have this procedure correct:
1. i use Odin to install CWM
2. boot straight into CWM
3. from inside CWM, i flash the AOKP zip file, and then the gapps zip file
my understanding is that this will keep cwm as my recovery and install aokp with gapps.
am i missing anything?

You don't have to update to 4.1.2 to update to 4.3.
If you go with a custom ROM, you will keep root. Although, if you flash stock ROM with Odin, you will lose it.
Mobile Odin can be used to flash (don't interrupt it), if you wish to go that route. No special instructions.
You can also flash using Odin (PC version), once again, don't interrupt it. You'll have to unzip and use the PDA file.
Finally, if you wanna flash a custom ROM, you can install TWRP, which you can get from GooManager on the Play Store (menu then install recovery). That will let you flash a custom ROM in recovery.
Now before you do any of that, please take the time to read and fully understand what you are doing, w/e option you choose to go with.

You can only flash the zips via recovery. Download both zip files to your PC and copy to a good quality micro SD card. Place the card in your phone and boot your phone to recovery mode. First you flash the 4.1.2 zip, then reboot to recovery again and repeat the process with the 4.3 zip.
Yes, you will lose root and you may lose your downloaded files which is why you need to do a back-up before updating. Once you have updated to 4.3, you can re-root your phone.

[Q] Flash Stock Firmware

Hey!
I just recently flashed twrp recovery and flashed some custom roms without making a backup of the stock ROM. Is there a way that I can flash the stock ROM and continue having OTA updates?
Thanks
I will assume that you have removed apps in you current ROM so before you return to stock you need to have a pre-rooted firmware will all the asus apps installed. Here is the link to the guide and follow the Pre-root stock method.
