GPS Not working - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hi there, I recently tried to use Google navigation in my car and it's fully stuck at "Searching for GPS Signal". My GPS is On yet I don't see the flashing GPS icon on the status bar. I tried flashing LiquidSmooth ROM and it works perfectly fine there but it doesn't work on the Frosty v11.6. Any help to fix this? Thanks

Did you try to backup your current rom, flash a cm10 rom then go back into your recovery (I'll assume twrp) and then restore the rom that you are currently on? That method fixed me up as another way to fix gps but it may not work for others.
Just a thought.

This fixed it!!! Thanks a lot. Here's what I did:
1. Flashed a CM10 ROM
2. Verified that GPS was working in that ROM (it should be working)
3. ODIN to stock JB firmware
4. Again, verify the GPS was working (it should be working)
5. Rooted and flashed to desired 4.1.1 ROM
6. GPS should still be working
Thanks a lot dccoh!

CyanogenMod 9 alpha3: Android 4.0.4 for Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello All,
I am having bit of an issue with the CyanogenMod 9 Alpha. I have successfully installed the ROM and everything is running fine until I try to use Google Maps. I can not get a GPS signal. I know this is a normal issue with ICS ROMs. Has anyone else had this issue with this ROM and know of how to fix it.
Thanks
This should help:

Hope this helps !
You have to flash back to a GB Gingerbread TW Touchwiz rom and get a GPS Lock then while you have the lock reboot the phone and flash the ICS aplha 3 normally
DONT TURN OF GPS flash regular fomat/system,fomat cache and dalvik then flash alpha 3 , then flash gapps and you should be ok
Okay, thanks everyone. I didn't know I had to do that old trick.
I am having some issues finding the touchwiz rom so that I can try that method. Do you happen to have the link?
Thanks

Can ODIN EL29 to the phone using a one click if u like, its rooted so you can still regain recovery etc easily - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Use an app like superbackup to backup your contacts, sms, call logs and use the full one click that wipes data so u dont have any issues going from CM9 (4.0) back to EL29 (2.3)
Best not to flash roms from ICS but if u know about flashing the El26 cwm then Calk's EL29 stock which is missing is mirrored here by me - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24256853&postcount=2
where can i get full one click

A Question on CWM Recovery and 4.0.4...
Hey all.
I've given CM9 Alpha3 3 good test drives, and each time, it's completely obliterated my clockworkmod recovery back to the locked-down stock recovery.. which is INSANELY annoying. Is there any way to avoid this from happening? As in, are there any decent kernels which will retain CWM recovery on my phone whilst using a 4.0.4 ROM?
Thanks in advance for any help which anyone can provide!
they just released a new kernel with ACS built in, you might want to give that a shot.

[Q] No data connection in stock ROMs

Hi guys, I face strange problem. In cm9 ROMs I have no issue with data connection but when I flash any stock ROM, I can't turn data on. GSM and SMS work well. Before flashing I always wipe and formate everything from previous ROM but still no success. Any idea?

Steps to get back GPS on your T-Mobile Galaxy S3

You just need to do the following steps to get back GPS on your T-Mobile GS3
1. Install TriangleAway here. Thanks to Chainfire.
2. Open TriangleAway, reset flashing counter (you must have root access)
3. Download original unrooted firmware for T-Mobile Galaxy S3 (T999UVALEM) here. Thanks to SamMobile
4. Boot your phone into Download Mode (Volume down + power + home) and flash the firmware above via ODIN
5. If you have bootloop after flashing, remove battery, boot your phone into Recovery Mode by holding volume up + power + home (should be stock recovery because custom recovery will be lost), wipe data (factory reset) + wipe cache
6. When your phone finishes rebooting, you will see the GPS has been fixed and worked perfectly.
7. Upgrading to the latest JB 4.1.1 by flashing the rooted firmware by DocHoliday77 here. GPS still works.
Please thanks if this post is helpful.

Ok so this firmware is unrooted right? But does it also revert you back to stock recovery? Or will it keep whatever recovery I'm on? I'm thinking of trying this with mobile odin but want to make sure that i keep twrp so i can reroot after installing this.

You will lost root access. But you can flash TWRP recovery after step #7.
Enable USB debugging on your phone and connect it to your PC
Download the latest version of TWRP recovery here. Thanks to TeamWin.
adb push openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.1-d2tmo.img /sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.1-d2tmo.img
adb shell

dd if=/sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.1-d2tmo.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
reboot recovery

It worked great for me. Just make sure you follow the steps exactly and you'll be fine.
Didn't work for me. I think maybe my GPS antenna is busted. I have a warranty replacement coming in today.
Man! I swear! Let me tell you guys something.
I got my replacement today.
I flashed a ROM, lost my IMEI (on my second phone... for those wondering, I'm use TWRP) along with GPS.
Went back to a Root77 ROM.
Restored my 4G and now all of a sudden I have GPS. I can navigate again.
On the old phone, I traveled six hours to Dallas on Sunday for two interviews Monday. You can imagine me on Sunday evening when I realized the GPS was screwed.
I'm heck of paranoid to do anything with this phone now.

Actually mine came back on. I had flashed the Galaxymod ported rom and it started working on it. I had it for a few days then flashed back frosty and gps stopped working. Then I ended up flashing Synergy rom and again my gps started working. I ended up having to many problems with it so I flashed back to frosty only this time my gps still worked. Have been back on Frosty for a week and my gps is still working prefect.

Did the same thing, was told that if you flash the Synergy Rom it will bring back your GPS, it worked for me as well, connecting fast as ever too! It's worth a try

To OP: How do the instructions differ with the new OTA rom? I want to update, but I now kind of rely on my GPS and Data working 100%.
Confirmed! This process works 100%.
Not sure why it works, but who cares, right?
Might be a setting in the build that custom roms screw up. I just know for some time being on custom roms, my GPS is unable to lock on. But I screwed up 4.2.1 custom rom downgrade back to 4.1.X due to 4.2's profile architecture, so I ended up completely ODIN back to stock to start over. My GPS works again now and I went back to a custom rom and it still works.
---
Side question... regarding flash counter, I been doing some searching. Is this necessary? I understand if warranty work needs to be done, Samsung will reject the device if flash count is >0, but some ppl are complaining about having an unlocked bootloader with a unlock icon during boot. I don't have that?
GPS works again woohoo!
Only problem is, triangle away didn't work for me (it said it was successful) but when in download mode my flash count is now 2? 0.o

so maybe i missed something, how do you loose GPS? are TW roms loosing GPS? ive been using AOSP roms and have no issues with GPS at all
I had the same thing- GPS ate it, started working again randomly, then ate it again, even after following the steps in this post. I got my RMA'd replacement today, and I'm not about to load anything custom on it until the warranty is long out and whatever is causing this problem is resolved.

Fix for GPS loss after flashing UVDLJC modem

Solution to GPS loss after flashing this modem with some other ROMs:
1. Download the latest CM10.1 nightly for T999 and the lastest GAPPs for the CM10.1 (both files can be found in cyanogenmod.com)
2. Odin Stock Deodexed Official T999UVDLJA +Root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1991255
3. Odin recovery (TWRP)
Note- do not make phone make a full reboot after odin twrp. The stock recovery might write over the flashed twrp. So remove battery of phone when rebooting.
4. Manually reboot to recovery by pressing simutaneously the home, volume up and on button. Release on button and keep pressing home and volume up button when phone vibrates.
5. In recovery (twrp), wipe cache, factory wipe, system and dalvik.
6. Flash CM10.1 nightly then GAPPs.
7. Reboot phone.
8. Turn on GPS and turn on navigation. A flashing GPS icon should appear on the navigation bar of your phone. This means your GPS has been fixed.
You can now flash whatever ROM you like. I flashed my favorite Frosty.
Thank button please it this helps..

This should be stickied, so many people having problems with GPS loss, mainly because people flash a 4.2.x ROM and flash back to a 4.1.x ROM.
Also for step number 1, it can be a ROM of your choice, at least that what I did and GPS worked perfectly fine.
Number 8 has a typo, the flashing GPS icon will appear in the status bar.
Thanks for this, should have a mod sticky this, its very helpful!

Nice info to have.
In some of my recent posts I helped someone that lost the use of their gps.
I've cut down the steps for myself now as all I have to do is backup my current custom rom, wipe cache/dalvik/system/factory, flash a cm10 rom, boot up and make sure gps works, boot back into recovery then restore the custom rom i was using.
That worked for me and 3 friends 100% of the time now. Sucks but 2 of them just about took their phone in for warranty work for gps issues but my short method fixed em right up.
Regardless it's nice to have options to fix these stupid gps problems so thanks
For question #3, may I ask why stock recovery would overwrite the custom recovery with a full reboot? I wouldn't recommend telling people to pull their battery at all while using Odin. While it seems obvious to most when to pull the battery, it's just a disaster waiting to happen.
Is this to only get GPS back on 10.1? I'm confused lol. I flashed the LJC modem and still have GPS, just installed a TouchWiz rom and still have GPS working... I'm confused.

I think he's saying it's a general guide for losing GPS with any rom.
To OP: your time and effort are definitely appreciated, I'm just curious how far this method was tested. For example, did you try using Odin to go back to stock to see if that helped? What methods did you eliminate in the process? I'm wondering if it was more of a coincidence that it worked after going to AOSP, because there really isn't anything different from TW roms that would "fix" GPS. I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, I'm just a little confused as well

Exactly, from what I've read (why I'm confused) is that the issue is flashing a 4.2 rom then going back to a 4.1 rom, GPS is borked... not using 4.2 then going back to 4.2... Is there another issue at hand that I'm not aware of?

There's no other issue that I'm aware of. Being that 4.2 and 4.1 have very different structures, I always odin root66 before going backwards, and have never experienced GPS issues.

That's what I commented on earlier. It doesn't have to be cm 10.1, just flash the ROM of your choice.
I've actually tried this, but instead of flashing a stock ROM with root, I went back to complete stock without root and my GPS started working as it did before the issue occurred, I the rooted my s3 once again and flashed a custom ROM of my choice (Darthstalker) and my GPS was still working.
I think the problem is going from 4.2.x down to 4.1.x. At least that seems to be the issue. But I'm not sure if GPS would work again if you were to go from 4.2.x to 4.1.x back to 4.2.x.

[Q] Wifi issue on all roms [sgh-i747m]

Ok so here is the deal: I rooted and flashed cwm touch. I flashed PAC man ROM 4.4.2 nightly and after installing like 15 or so apps from the play store, my WiFi stoops working. It won't pick up any access points (I know my WiFi router is fine). So after being fed up I do a factory reset/wipe and flash PAC man ROM 4.4.2 again, this time it works fine. Now I did a full wipe and flashed carbon ROM 4.4.2 nightly and same problem: WiFi works fine and after downloading many appsit spontaneously stoops working. Not wanting to loose all my settings I just did, I reflashed the ROM and wiped the dalvik cache and cache but WiFi still doesn't work. Please help thanks!

I have seen posts where updating the bootloader required an updated modem. I suggested updating the modem in case you updated your bootloader. All this being said, it is weird that it just stopped working. Unfortunately, I don't what else to suggest other using a stock ROM for a while to see if the problem reappears.
